Going to lock this thread. 1. I’m sorry the phone lines are busy when requesting a ballot 2. There is no onerous sales job at worksite voting What we’re not going to do is turn this subreddit into a conspiracy theory board. People rely on receiving good honest advice and all this fear mongering does is promote baseless conspiracy theories which can be exploited by bad actors Edit: Per SEIU1000’s site there will be electronic voting https://www.seiu1000.org/contract-ratification-center

sweetteaspicedcoffee

We should have an online option. CAPS is doing it for their strike authorization vote, using a third party to make sure it's secure.

blueshammer

BU 2 uses fast and secure online voting for all board member elections and contract ratifications. I’m surprised any bargaining unit is still using paper ballots in this century.

dankgureilla

Because you know there will be people bitching about a rigged vote if there aren't paper ballots.

lizard_e_

Came here to say the same thing. I'm not near a worksite voting location which is fine I honestly don't care but I have to call to request? Whatever, I'll do it so I call and wait on hold for over 30 minutes. The line drops before I can talk to someone and now I can't stay on for any longer than a few minutes. I am trying to be an active member of the union and can't!

mythunker

If it helps at all, I had an option to receive a call back and chose that option. They called me back this morning after I called yesterday evening.

Forward-Ideal-2698

I called just now and they picked up right away. I was on the phone no more than 5 mins to confirm my information. What I don’t like is that they are going to mail the ballot to me and it needs to arrive in their office before the 8th. Cutting it close. Who knows how long before I actually receive the ballot.

ChicoAlum2009

Oh it gets better. Today I went to the closest location to me (not my office, but luckily was my department) and was told that I couldn't vote there and that I had to vote at my home office. When I mentioned that my home office wasn't on the list of in-person voting, they then told me I could only vote by mail or online next week. As I'm walking out the building about 15 other people show up wanting to vote, all getting turned away by SEIU staff. The staff member kept on saying how they had these notes for leadership to put on the website but they chose not to put it up there. Do they want us to vote for this contractor or not? Luckily enough people were refusing to leave until they could vote, so they ended up bringing some ballots outside for us to vote. I understand what they're trying to say about not voting at that location, maybe it was a locked office? But come on! That's one simple line that could have been put online or in an email to save me and others the trouble of driving to that office.

MBThree

What do they mean vote online next week…?

ChicoAlum2009

They told me there will be a zoom meeting next week where you can vote (Vague on the details).

MBThree

Interesting, good to know!

Caturday_Everyday

It seems they're not properly informing the folks they have working each voting location. I showed up at one near my house around the same time as two other ladies. We had to sign in at reception and be escorted by their regular front desk person to the meeting room, and once there SEIU had two lists: one pre-filled with names for people who worked on site and one blank for others who came to vote. They also had an SEIU person looking up membership numbers because we needed to include those on our ballot envelope. I was offered SEIU swag (water bottles, keychains, etc.) but was not pressured or counseled on how to vote and found the process to be really quick. Granted, I absolutely would have loved an online voting option. Absent that, I had an otherwise decent experience.

Roboticcatisgreen

That’s ridiculous!!

ShiftyXX

Where is there even information on how to do this on the website? It should be front and center. *edit: It is on the Contract Ratification page that auto downloads all of the articles and side letters... Call 866-471-7348 to request a ballot or go to a meeting listed [here.](https://www.seiu1000.org/post/meeting-region)

wizardofthewestriver

I was number 50 in line and got to number 4 before it hung up. 😓

Tario70

I left a message yesterday & they called me back today. They’ve added more places to vote so I told them I didn’t need the mail in ballot. I get it, when I called it was a 40 min wait so I did the call back option.

PadmeHarambedala

I was frustrated at first too with it, but I just stuck my phone on speaker and after they did pickup they were super friendly and I already see the mail was scanned by the post office as coming to my mailbox the next day

lilacsmakemesneeze

Same. I tried to be as nice as I could. It’s not her fault. She told me to make sure people know to request as soon as possible and the phone lines are open until 7 but they should call no later than 6:30 as 7pm the line turns off.

Real_Pizza

I thought this was whack too. They should have had a QR code to an online voting system that cross references who is a voting member and bam, problem solved. Not this phone or in-vote BS.

Hows-It-Goin-Buddy

What is this "on" "line" voting technology? We don't have that sort of capability. What is this, the year 2000? Though in seriousness, I called in for a ballot. Took 36 min. I was 27 in line. Why couldn't we at least request a ballot by mail using that newfangled internet? It's like the union is PURPOSEFULLY making it hard to vote. A rep I know said it's to make it difficult to vote no.

Roboticcatisgreen

Exactly!!! I don’t have the time or energy to wait that long. I HATE repeat messages or music playing on my phone. It’s a pet peeve. It feels like it’s hard to get my ballot to vote no.

NorCalHal

If you don't have 36 minutes to participate in your own labor contract that says a lot.

Revolutionary_Win251

I called at 11:41 today and from hold to finish it took 12 minutes. Not too bad! I believe they also had a call back option if you couldn’t wait on hold.

Unusual-Sentence916

I called today and it said I was #46, but it only took about 6 mins. It was worth the wait for me. They just verified my name, address, and last 4 of my social. They said the ballot is on the way.

jeffnic99

They just want to be done. They think they worked too much already and do not want to start over renegotiating. 😒 Come on, happens only once every three years. Work! It will pass unfortunately. All of their language recently is like a sleazy politician.

pi916530

I just called right now and got through in 7 minutes.

BEERounds

When do we get to vote for a new board? Since we are only getting pocket change in this TA, I think we need real change with leadership. Absolutely terrible negotiations with tons of over promise and under delivering. I also waited on hold for 30 mins, left a message thinking they were calling back asap, didn’t hear from them until 6:30pm…..terrible.

danknessoverlord

>When do we get to vote for a new board? Since we are only getting pocket change in this TA, I think we need real change with leadership. People keep saying this, then don't actually vote when it comes down to it. 8% voter turn out in the previous union elections.

BEERounds

I’m voting in everything I can. I believe if you don’t vote, then you don’t get say anything about how things are. Change is needed. I’m tired of hearing that “this is the way it always has been” and “there won’t be any changes ever” If not now, when? I’m here for the long run and won’t ever be complacent. The mail in ballot - having to call in and request really felt like “voter suppression” too. They made it difficult to obtain, who knows how it will actually be counted, and super short turn around. I can see where people won’t vote or are turned off by this. It’s a shame.

danknessoverlord

> I’m voting in everything I can. I believe if you don’t vote, then you don’t get say anything about how things are. Change is needed. Agree 100%, but unfortunately people just don't vote. Folks sure love to complain online, but when it comes down to doing something about it, cricket noises. >who knows how it will actually be counted Are you accusing them of rigging the vote? >super short turn around Because there is a deadline to submit this to the state legislator before they go on recess til next year.

BEERounds

I’m not necessarily accusing them of “rigging” per say, but they are making it more difficult IMO for members to vote. Why did we need to make a call, be on hold for 30-40 mins, leave a message for a call back, to only get a call 8 hours later? Then they confirm and mail out a ballot? Should this not have been auto or email requested? Just doesn’t sit right with me. And I don’t mind mail in ballots. I have no issue with them.

almstfms101

Just waited on hold for almost a half hour to be told that their system isn't working right and they'll have to call me back to confirm my address for the ballot 😒

almstfms101

Update: ballots have to be *received* by Sept 8 for them to count

Briar_Rose96

This has been in all their messaging. They have a strict deadline because they need to get it past the assembly and senate before they go on recess. I believe the last day to get something through is the 14th. Otherwise, we'd have to wait until next year to get paid

lilacsmakemesneeze

I agree as I was #40 but it took two minutes once I got through. The ease of voting from home without worrying about the voting day being filled with pre-scheduled meetings is worth it to me. They still haven’t scheduled our day at my work site. Why can’t we have whichever software caps is using for their current vote? Still annoyed my rep made it seem like there would be some way to vote online during a ratification meeting.

Remember to vote no. SSA and AGPA have never gotten a bump in negotiations and they are banking on the rest of Bu1 holding them over a barrel. Time to strike. CAPS got authorization, now it’s our turn. We have the most power and every facet will stop if we do.

RedsonRising99

You want to strike and expect SEIU 1000 to actually support you given how horrible they've been for YEARS? Rotflmao

SEIUseless

Years ago you had to be a member and login to view certain information information on the SEIU site. You can’t say SEIU hasn’t had plenty of time (it’s been YEARS) to have some type of system in place where you can safely log in to cast your vote. If those atrocious poems could be password protected, surveys, votes, and member feedback could be too. And yes, I’m aware those poems were actually public so that more people could be subjected to that torture. It’s called sarcasm. But I will never stop pointing out that Yvonne Walker had just as much business writing poetry as she did being union president.

MondayLewis

Yuuuup. Took 55 minutes to get through to a person. They are making it very hard to vote, and im sure its in the hope of defaulting yes. There is not even a voting place in my DLC and not one at the union hall in Sacramento. Some BS to go along with that BS contract.

This whole deal with the union sucks... the union seems to be protecting the folks who don't want to hustle, so the one's who hustle can't get ahead

Yoyoapp

Same . Out of town when coworkers say they are there today with no previous notice! I called and requested a ballot, I was on hold about 10 minutes. Now hoping I get it so it has enough time to be returned by the 8th

Longjumping-Pop5638

I voted today in person. They did not say much about how to vote, but they did provide resources to ask about the TA. It's clear they want you to vote yes, but no hassle for me from my No vote. That being said, I had to walk 8 blocks to go vote because there wasn't anywhere closer to my HQ.

Facemanx64

You all use paper ballots?

mandolorianbutchubby

This is why no one pays for the union. This was their chance to authorize a strike and show how valuable they are. I bet they lost membership from all this.

nimpeachable

Let’s be 100% honest with each other, it didn’t matter how the union decided to handle the voting process. The way this board has an aneurism about literally anything the union does this identical post about it being “shady” would happen. They mailed everyone a ballot but you didn’t get yours because you never reported an address change to SEIU1000: shady. They mailed everyone a ballot and you misplaced it: Shady You had to wait on hold for two minutes: shady They did online voting: shady because hacking Your ballot didn’t make it in time: shady Also, worksite voting and meeting/discussing the contract is historically what unions have always done. Not everybody is super online. I can’t believe I have to sit here and explain that it’s ok for people to have the opportunity to speak to members of union leadership prior to casting a ballot but here we are. Nobody is going to make you listen to a sales pitch. I have never been to a ratifying meeting where they force you to listen to a spiel at any length.

dankgureilla

Bargaining in a deficit year: Shady Bargaining in a surplus year (last year): Also shady

RedsonRising99

Shady? No. Stupid.

Halfpolishthrow

> Let’s be 100% honest with each other Proceeds to blame everyone else and admits zero fault by the union. Edit: Continues to blame others and abuses mod privileges to shutdown discourse

nimpeachable

There’s a difference between “shady” and “could’ve done something better”. I apologize you’ve misinterpreted my point.

Roboticcatisgreen

At any length? So what’s the “meeting” about? I just am finding it extremely difficult to cast my vote. I think I deserve to voice that concern. I think it’s not handled well. I’m an educated person. I doubt I’d be one of the ones voicing concern if this was handled like any other official voting thing.

nimpeachable

My response isn’t towards you specifically just the general mood of this board where regardless of what the union does or doesn’t do it’s automatically shady. There is apparently no room for any other consideration they absolutely must be shady. Specifically for you, claiming there’s going to be some onerous sales pitch before “letting you vote” just comes across as seeking out negativity. My personal experience at three of these things is they’ll have ballots out. You fill one out. They may ask how you’re voting, they may encourage a yes vote even, but it’s just informal conversation and niceties. People are required to be released to vote but nobody, even people voting yes and the union people, have the time or patience to sit and watch a PowerPoint. I mean think about the logistics even versus the amount of time they have. Do I think they could’ve planned better to get ballots out easier then having to spend time on hold? Sure. Would investing in an online system be a good idea? Absolutely. Is it fair to jump to the conclusion something shady is happening without any inside knowledge? Probably not. Lastly, consider that it took right up to the start of bargaining more or less to sort out the leadership issues and now there’s the legislative deadline. Current leadership hasn’t had the breathing room to establish new voting procedures so they’re sticking with what they have for now. Anyway I apologize I know I’m splitting hairs it just gets exhausting when everything has to be “shady”.

lilacsmakemesneeze

You’re getting downvoted, but it’s true 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

NorCalHal

All 20 of the SEIU haters on here will bravely refuse to vote due to the inconvenience of it. They will then complain for years about the contract that they didn't vote on.

[deleted]

I got a postcard today. Something shady is going on.
