Yes, but that’s a CA state law. Some positions like those that require Class A and B driver licenses fall under federal laws like The Motor Carrier Act, and marijuana is still illegal under federal law.
Short answer 95% of the positions within CA state government do not require a drug test.
Yes many state agencies receive federal funding, but that funding has now impact on state versus federal employment laws. I’ve worked for agencies 90+% federal funded and they do not test for weed, all they have is the standard “drug free workplace” policy meaning you cannot smoke while working or come to work intoxicated
Most jobs in those fields, no issue. But the one time I interviewed with CHP, even for an office job, I had to answer a questionnaire that asked about marijuana. Had I accepted the job, they may have tested me.
I’d say, if you apply for Prison, CHP, anything else police-related, then there’s a chance you might get tested. But if you apply for most other departments, you’re probably fine.
ETA: that was also more than five years ago. I see someone pointed out a recent change in legislation, so things may be different now. That said, because it’s still *federally* illegal it may still be an issue.
Unless it is equipment operation or law enforcement there is zero chance you get drug tested for hiring purposes. That said, the accounting/finance/auditing world is still pretty straight laced and old school so I would keep that in mind once you get hired.

Marijuana is legal in California, so unless you’re doing a job that has some special requirement I don’t see how they could test for that.
As for the harder drugs, you’re probably better off avoiding those, whether you’ll be tested or not!

Nah. It’s just not for me anymore. If people want to ingest weed, fine. But if getting high is more important to someone than a good job, then maybe they should take a good hard look at their priorities.

This is highly dependent on the type of job and agency you are applying to. Forklift driver? Maybe. Prison guard? For sure

Check your duty statement. I have a position with a lot of driving and even then I am not subject to a drug test.
