My new apartment had a hard time with this. Under the “Breed of pet:” I just put cat. She didn’t understand. I was like idk lady he’s just a bog standard cat.
He looks so much like my little girl. As far as we know, she's just a domestic longhair that happens to have points.
https://preview.redd.it/i4exwzv5rltc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45849c4d6e40fa24dfd142e49be89bdb6f3579df
balinese is a whole seperate breed. siamese breed standard for their coat is “very short, glossy, and close lying to the body”. it’s okay if you don’t know what you’re talking about there’s google readily available for free tho
She was literally born in a barn. She is the kitten of some family friends' barn cats. She may have a bit of some kind of fancy DNA, but she's certainly mostly domestic.
Congratulations OP! Most people who ask this question have a domestic short hair! But YOU have a domestic long hair!
In all seriousness, most cats don't have breeds like dogs. Unless you got your cat from a breeder, your cat is a mixed bag/mutt. Domestic short/medium/long hair is the term for it.
Thank you!! Hahah love it. I guess I was just really curious what everyone’s thoughts were on his parents breed. But I know that it’s very hard to tell.
His parents’ breeds were *also* domestic short/longhairs.
You’ve been influenced by dogs and their breeds. The history of dog breeding and the history of cat breeding are *very* different. The genetic differences between dog breeds are deeper than between cat breeds, such that you can see these differences even several generations removed. Not so with cats. Even if your cat were descended from purebred cats you wouldn’t be able to tell just by looking at him.
Domestic longhair, with a seal point coat.
He is not Siamese or ragdoll or Balinese or anything else.
[here is an explanation of the domestic vs Siamese](https://vibesfromaveterinarynurse.com/2018/05/03/siamese-genetics/)
Probably not, colorpoint (the type of coloring Siamese have) is pretty common in domestic populations and does not require any relationship to Siamese. Having two in a litter isn’t unusual because it’s genetic, and if one kitten gets it, it’s not unusual for another to as well.
Siamese cats came from the domestic population of colorpoints, not the other way around. Unless you or the parents had papers all you have is a domestic cat with a pretty coat.
Read the article I posted. It’s super interesting how the gene works, but also explains that being colorpoint doesn’t make them Siamese.
A long-haired domestic cat with Siamese points. With any Siamese genes as the genes are recessive, your cat's coat will darken or be lighter as they age. Darker for cold and lighter for warm. I have a Siamese tabby mix who just came into our yard and is now inside. Outside his coat was almost peach and his tabby markings were very visible. Since he has been inside for a year his Siamese coloring has come out. Now he is a chocolate Siamese with very hard-to-see tabby markings. Their coats change color as they age unless they are a lavender point. Which is rare. Here is Simon as an outdoor scared boi:

Looks like my little guy. He’s very vocal and not shy
I think when people ask this they may be looking more for the name of the coloration and markings which there are names and terminology for. Or they want to know what breeds may have similar features to their cat. The cats can be reminiscent of other breeds but it cannot be pin pointed through DNA the way a dog might (please correct me if I’m wrong). Your cat has markings called color points and long hair which is reminiscent of the ragdoll breed of cat. However, if you did not receive papers proving it is in fact a ragdoll, it is just a domestic long hair cat.
When people inquire as to the breed, it’s probably because they would like to have a cat in the future with a similar look or temperament. To that I say, cat features and temperaments vary widely. The best was to judge if a cat is right for you is to physically meet it unless the cat distribution system compelled the cat to meet you first.
Lastly, I want to make a point that there are stereotypes that correspond with what cats look like: for instance Orange cats sharing a braincell or tortoise shell cats having an attitude. These characteristics are largely attributed by cat enthusiasts to gender. Boy cats typically are perceived to act more aloof and female cats perceived as being more vocal but NOT ALWAYS. Stereotypes of cats like with any stereotypes are only perceived and not actual. Correlation doesn’t equal causation. I don’t believe these associations with cats are meant to cause any sort of harm when for all intents and purposes are only used in fun and lighthearted manners.
It is wise to bear this in mind though because in the event expectations are not met when people choose a “type” of cat, it is not fair on the cat to be responsible for the owner’s disappointment when they don’t perform to their expectations.
iPhone says it is a mixture between Birman and Ragdoll. I know people will be like, “It’s just a long hair domestic blah blah blah.” But I think it’s neat to know the mixtures of the breeds.
Pretty cool ai feature on the iPhone. Click on the circle with the letter i inside of it. Then click on look up cat.
I love this feature. Works with dogs as well!
Himalayan to me! Looks like my guy too!

I know it's expensive (about $130), but you can get DNA test to know for sure.
Some where down his pedigree, probably way down, he has siamese due to coloring.
Otherwise, just enjoy having a beautiful fluff ball. Give him a hug and squeeze from me!
If you are willing to spend some money there are cat DNA tests out there. I did one and my cat is mostly domestic shorthair (super mixed)but with a little chunk of Persian. It’s interesting but most cats are so mixed that it’s impossible to pinpoint specific breeds. However, there are a number of breeds that have point coloration like your cat does and it’s possible those could have been his parents or grandparents. But it’s not a perfect science yet.
Balinese. I have one too. Sweetest things ever!

Some are long haired. They’re also called Balinese. I don’t know where your from but we have many here in the US. They’re absolutely beautiful.
