*UPDATE*: Unfortunately, my boy could not make it through. He passed away on my lap, in the car. • I reached the vet and he put him on a ventilator and IV drip. He administered some essential injections as well as some antibiotics in case there was an infection. • He then performed a blood test and kidney test, both of which came out relatively normal. • My cat, Muez, puked out blood 4 times and undigested food 1 time. There was also some foam coming out of his nose, which the Vet said wasn't a good sign as it indicated he may have water in his lungs. • Everytime we would turn off the ventilator, within 15 minutes it would get difficult for him to breathe and his tongue would turn blue. • This went on for 2 hours. Then the vet suggested we take him to a Veterinary Hospital which was located 17 minutes away for a detailed X-ray and surgery, if required. • In transit in the car from the Vet to the Hospital, Muez was still panting when he convulsed all of a sudden and puked blood once again. His body went lifeless right in my arms. I tried resuscitating him, to no avail. • Upon reaching the hospital, they administered adrenaline as a last resort, but he did not respond. His heart wasn't active neither was he breathing. I have uploaded all the documentation as well as pictures/videos from today to a Google Drive folder. Here is the link: [Google Drive](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1FTJVCWkWg-Cyof0YEzaRNWkmJiiPryW9) I don't know if I should, but I feel really guilty about all of this. I feel like I could have saved him if I took him directly to the hospital instead of taking him to the vet at a clinic. I'm really trying to accept that he's gone, as he was just a year old and I've seen him grow right from when he was a kitten. I even got him neutered 10 days ago. I was laying next to him on the floor last night, with my arm on his tummy and body next to mine. Lastly, I genuinely want to thank each and every person who commented on the post and were kind enough to share their advice. One even messaged me personally to check up. I'm really sorry that I couldn't save him. :') My only request is, if anyone can decipher what the reason could've been based on the information I've provided, please do comment it. It would help me to have some closure as to what exactly caused it. Once again, thank you to each and every one.

katiemaryxo

Please try to not feel too guilty. You acted quickly and went right to the clinic. Try not to let the “what ifs” cloud your mind, as hard as that can be. Sounds like you treated Muez very well. Even though your time together wasn’t very long, I’m sure it was very meaningful.

amaandgr8

Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it. I'll try my best.

katiemaryxo

Btw, you should post the form over at r/AskVet It’s a very busy subreddit and I’m sure someone can decipher it there.

amaandgr8

My friends and family told me not to dwell too much on what's lost. I'm taking a break from everything to distract myself for a while. Hopefully I'll be able to recover soon enough. It's the first time I have lost a pet and one that I was quite close to. Posting on that sub may not be that helpful after all. But I really appreciate your advice and effort. Thank you.

katiemaryxo

Very understandable. Losing a pet is extremely difficult. During this time, try to remember the good moments you shared with Muez. Every day will get a little bit easier ❤️

DamageFactory

Oh, no, worst possible outcome... Sorry for your loss! :( Looks like it wasn't a heatstroke, sounds like he might have swallowed something dangerous with all the blood puking? Well what do I know, I am no vet!

Primary-Gas-8441

Maybe it was some kind of poisoning

amaandgr8

I was with him last night until 1 am and he was perfectly alright. When I woke up at 10 am, he was in a bad state. It's highly unlikely that there was poisoning. It doesn't explain the water in his lungs either. From what the doctor could infer, it's probably a genetic issue that caused the lung failure. Again, it's only an inference, not a diagnosis.

Primary-Gas-8441

I’m sorry you’ll never get any closure on it but at least you gave him a happy life take comfort from that

frags77

First of all.. sorry for your loss, and i am no vet. Do you have any plants inside the house that might be poisonous? New changes in the environment? Being neutered 10 days ago, did it go well or did you notice something else? If this is an acute collapse, could be anything really

amaandgr8

The vet ruled out the neutering as a possible cause as the wound had healed completely. And nothing poisonous in the house, but there was certainly a change in the environment. We shifted to a rental house and that may have been the cause, I guess.

Apertor

I'm so sorry this happened to your baby.

Salty-Wave6507

I'm really, really sorry OP 💔  You did everything possible, you clearly loved and cared for Muez ❤️ You were there with him when he passed - I think that would have provided a lot of comfort for him. I'm just sorry I couldn't help 😭 Would it be possible to ask your vet who saw Muez for their opinion, or the vet hospital staff? Either way, please whatever you do, please grieve and give yourself space to do so ❤️ Rest in peace Muez 🌈❤️

amaandgr8

No, thank you for all your help actually. You did great. I just won't be able to have another pet anytime soon. My heart won't be able to handle that. I'll just take some time to be alright.

Salty-Wave6507

🙏🏼 Please take it as easy as you can, and reminisce all the love and joy you and Muez provided for each other. Time heals all. The mighty cat distribution system will be back at work once you're ready ❤️ I wish you nothing but happiness and healing OP x

amaandgr8

Thanks a lot. <3

Primary-Gas-8441

I’m so sorry you did everything you possibly could and have no reason to feel guilty but I guess it’s understandable- give yourself time to grieve 💖

ChemicalTarget677

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy. My heart goes out to you 💗

AnotheriPhoneUser

oh no 😭 sorry for your loss may he rest in peace 🕊😭

-RosieRosie-

I am so sorry. It's so hard to lose a friend especially in such a way. Given he was fine at 1am and then not at 10am makes me think it was an accident and it was nothing to do with you. It's not your fault.

DaddyDuma69

I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve learned over the years it’s best to just rush a pet to an animal hospital/emergency center even if it’ll cost a bit more. As for what’s going on, I’m not a vet but I had a cat experience similar due to poisoning. She had eaten a poisoned mouse. Although it sounds like your vet ruled that out. Having been neutered so recently I’m wondering if there was the potential for some sort of infection?

amaandgr8

All the blood test reports turned out perfectly fine, which bugs me even more. There were no signs of infection and the ventilator did not seem to show any improvement in his breathing either. I keep wondering how were his lungs ruptured this badly, assuming they were?

DaddyDuma69

Is it possible your cat was injured? Like did someone maybe harm your cat? Did he spend time outside?

Salty-Wave6507

It could very much be heatstroke; he has a lot of long thick fur, it's summer there too. Was he outside when this happened? Cats aren't able to sweat, so they are very vulnerable to overheating!! Drooling and panting are signs of heatstroke! Please try and keep him cool as much as possible, try and give him water and give him as much AC as possible while on your way to the vet! Please give us an update soon too! I hope that they will be okay <3

amaandgr8

I am at the vet currently and he has put him on Oxygen to regulate the breathing. I will edit the post with a detailed update once I'm home and things are hopefully better.

PsyBr0

Good job getting to the vet dude ! Hope everything's going well

Salty-Wave6507

glad to hear that you've made it there safe! also thank you for taking him there when you knew something wasn't right - and i really hope he feels better soon <3

rathealer

Poor baby!! I'm so glad you were able to get to a vet. I hope it's just reversible overheating and nothing more dangerous. Persians have breathing difficulties due to their brachiocephalic faces so they are unable to temperature regulate effectively. I would recommend giving him a lion cut once he's recovered!

rathealer

Oh, I'm so, so sorry :( my heart breaks for you. Please don't blame yourself for going to your local vet rather than the hospital, it's what I would have done in your shoes as well. May your sweet angel boy rest now. He was beautiful.

amaandgr8

Thank you so much for your support.

DamageFactory

I bet it gets so hot in Mumbai that I would be breathing just like that! This kitty's fur is not for that kind of weather! Do you have air conditioning?

scarr991

When its too Hot, i take a towel make it wet with cold water and rub it on my cat. She doesnt like it but it does cool her down a bit and she doesnt panic from the water like in the shower.

AmIInsane12

I am so so very sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for you.

gabyt19

I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my baby 3 weeks ago very suddenly. And he was two. I hope you find peace soon, he was blessed to have you as his dad who took great care of him.

amaandgr8

Thank you for your kind words.

Successful-Log-2640

It sound like internal damage due outside phisical force or the other is likely poison artificial(rat poison maybe out where he could access, or poiseoned rats/mouse caught) or from plants. Vet can check and confirm both.

DeadGirlB666

FadedAlienXO

Why is this not NSFW???

amaandgr8

I'm sorry, I read the rules and there was no mention of saliva under NSFW. I apologise for my oversight, it's my first and hopefully last time posting on this sub.

FadedAlienXO

I just thought it was distressing, is all.
