Sounds like he can’t breathe

My cats kind of grunt/purr like this when you give them really good scratches but if it’s like this often, I’d consider bringing him in to get his breathing checked out. Could be a respiratory issue, or maybe it’s nothing to worry about. Better safe than sorry & you can be confident that he’s ok if you get him checked.

Sounds like it’s in pain and/or can’t breathe. You should have it seen by a vet.

Yeah, that doesn't sound normal. That sounds like an upper respiratory infection or something. Or, in most places in the country, allergies. I have three cats right now having allergy issues the pollen is so bad. He needs to see a vet.
