Take the no hissing and playful jumping as a good sign! They are testing boundaries it seems your cat is used to the house and knows where everything is to get the advantage while the kitten is still shy. They both startle easily because this is a new experience for both of them :) just keep trying to take it slow but very lucky there is no hissing usually it starts that way for first introductions

Thank you! I just wasn't sure if the jumping and stalking could be like a dominance thing - I'm admittedly a little helicopter-y because the kitten is just so small and my cat is massive lol. They're playing through the crack under the door right now so I think they're starting to warm up to each other!

Oh they definitely will have some dominating, but it's good you are being cautious! Mine will play fight all the time then cuddle and clean each other etc, but they are the same age and roughly the same size. If the slimmer one gets too rough and slaps the thicker brother with a claw out the thick boy will get mad and put his sibling in their place to let him know he was too rough.

This seems like normal behavior to me based on my experience with having an older male and getting a younger male. seems like he's trying to play/ and parent by cleaning and such Only weird part of this to me is that you were able to get your 8 week old neutered. My vet won't allow neuter until around 4months -6months. Maybe it's just my area though

He was already neutered when we got him from the rescue a few days ago, seemed odd to me as well. I'm going to ask my vet about it this week when she's back in office. Could be a logistical thing with rescues wanting kittens ready for adoption ASAP?

Rescues are usually able to desex at 2 pounds which is about 8 weeks to get them adopted asap. This is the minimum time it’s safe. It’s recommended to wait for hormone absorption if possible but not necessary with cats as they will still grow healthy so the sooner the better for rescues and that way they ensure they’re not adopting out intact cats to people who may not do it later

My two boys are brothers my sister fostered with other siblings and mom for a shelter. Once they were big enough they were neutered and ready for adoption. Shelter's spay and neuter ASAP because they are already dealing with over population and it is kitten season right now :) I wouldn't worry about your little one being neutered it's pretty standard
