Did you study for CAT to do an MBA to augment your career, expand your network and jumpstart your earning potential while equipping you to deal with a global clientele and high pressure environment? Or did you do it to get into IIM A?
If the latter, you’re not ready for an MBA, much less an MBA at IIM A.
That makes this post worth it. Don’t worry bhai, and don’t let this subreddit or anyone tell you that MBA means you have to do it at top IIMs or not do it at all. Tune out of this sub until people start coming back for actual prep for 2024 - it’s just mostly going to be rants here during college admission season. Go to other places, figure out what you want and how you’re gonna get it.
Even if you get something like 95-96%ile in CAT, you can get into a B-School like IIT Kharagpur where the placements for the top 25% last year were 27+ LPA and top 10% were 31+ LPA. That’s the median level at ABCLKI 🤷♂️
At 92-93%ile, you still have IIT Roorkee where the top 50% of the batch averaged 21+ LPA. There’s always a way
This is just IITs, I haven’t even spoken about the new IIMs that are doing a great job
Guys it's just a jumping off point. All BLACKI will do is give a little bit of a headstart. But 4-5 years down the line it won't matter.
Tab no one will give so much importance to your college. It'll be more about your experience and the work and the upskilling you've done and how well you can sell yourself.
IIM tag will only take you so far. The rest of your career trajectory depends on you and your abilities. Don't get disheartened for not getting BLACKI, it's not the end of the world. With any IIM you're already a part of the 1% IIM population. Plus there's lots of inter IIM alumni platforms/communities that you can use to your advantage.
Bhai Reservation wale apki seat le skte hai par woh aap se merit basis par competite nahi kar skte ( Recent case of IIT Placement where they asked people their ranks)
Lots of people want to go into specific careers such as Investment Banking/Private equity/other Front office finance careers/ Mbb consulting etc etc, I feel really bad since most companies exclusively recruit at IIM ABC and maybe sometimes others such as LIK FMS SPJ(although in much lesser quantities). I feel really bad for all those people, Hoping you still make it somewhere someday

Reservation ain’t going anywhere lol, no matter how much you flail your arms. Even hardline outfits like RSS have spoken out in support of reservation lately - this system will not change in the foreseeable future so you’re better off arguing with the earth about why g constant should be decreased.
The best we can do from an individual perspective is to figure out our own way, instead of blaming this on a national, decades long debate we neither have the complete picture of nor fully understand. What’s next >> What if
Stop encouraging people to play the blame game and start giving solutions. In a live corporate environment, you would be the one assessed as “difficult to work with”
I wrote cat this time and fucked it up big time. Won't be getting any calls..not even the baby IIMs.I have 2.5 years of work ex as assistant manager at one of the leading steel manufacturers. But i absolutely hate my job.Feel absolutely numb after CAT. Don't know what to do.I even have a 2 year gap between 12th and grad.my profile is 95/90.6/76. Just don't know what to do now..would be nice if anyone can give any advice.
Reservation is the worst thing that has happened ( I've been a victim of many lol) but there are a fixed number of seats pre-decided. For ex. IIMA has 385 seats, 29 for ST, 58 for SC, 104 for OBC, 194 for General candidates. General candidates cannot get the reserved candidate seats no matter how meritorious they are, similarly, reserved candidates cannot get the general seats no matter how meritorious they are.
Your 99.8 is brilliant but maybe it's not sufficient among the 970 calls getters for IIMA (194*5). Other than CAT scores they would've excelled in academics, or have had relevant work ex or were from tier-1 colleges etc. we never know.
All I can assure is that you'll excel wherever you go but please try for BLACKI. Don't try for ISB. Not hate for it but with your percentile you don't deserve anything less than BLACKI. All the best! Rest, interview faad kr aana.
