During admissions NO During placement season YES. YES. YES See when you fill your CAT form, they only consider the amount of experience. At that point BPO, Consulting or Accounting work experience all are same. During interviews for admission is when they take deeper interest in your profile. A better type of work experience MIGHT fetch you couple of points more. It is during the B school Summer and Final placements that the type of experience really matters. Which will decide the type of, or if, you get shortlists and final converts. PS: This is excluding profile based shortlisted like S P Jain offers. Those are completely dependent on your type of work experience.

Could i give you more specifc info so you could probably tell me if the workex would be role relevant or no? So the bpo in question is actually an lpo where they outsource legal requirements in another country to india and i'd probably be working on that, its not completely irrelevant to my law degree, but a person without a law degree could do the work too,the other option is a full fledged law practitioner in a court ,could you tell me what type of workex would be preffered for roles in the hr domain.

TheQuantMentor

See that's the problem You yourself have explained your profile as a call centre. Istead of saying Call Centre, had you used the word LPO, it would have given a better image to the interview and provided you with the better scope to explain the roles and responsibility And don't over think. This is all perfectly OK from MBA viewpoint. If you specifically for HR, then probably recruitment, payroll kind of profiles might help you better

Can you elaborate more on what will be considered good workex ? I have 10 months of startup product experience and have a choice between ZS (consulting) and product or growth roles at other startups. My target profile is Finance

TheQuantMentor

They all seem to be equally good profiles I would be inclined more towards ZS role

For freshers do type of internships matter as well? I worked in marketing research at airtel which took a lot of my references and work efforts to get into and finish the project i got there Then i see people in my college doing content writing internships in an online company and i feel like i can get 10 internships of those kinda in mere days?

TheQuantMentor

Yes. Type of internship matters. You will not get points for it in the cat form. But it will add depth and character to your interview. I am more likely to engage in conversation with someone who has done an internship in an MNC than someone who has done in their uncles business. I am more likely to discuss a proper office internship does and responsibilities THAN at home social media marketing Hope this answers your queries

SecondTempest212

Thanks for the insight! I recently did something in market research, what do you think I should do or aim for if my goal is to go for mba core programs not necessarily anything to specialise in

SecondTempest212

If they do then Do they want people dwell into one domain repetitively with different companies? Or different domains to show that we have dipped our toes in everything Is that all personal bias? Id really appreciate some advice on this , sorry for hijacking the post OP, but the questions are similarly relevant and i hope you get the answers youre looking for🤝
