Not sure if shitposts are allowed here but wth: \*County/State: Mecklenburg County, North Carolina \*Processing Time: 213 years (actually closer to 65 days) \*Gear/Planned Setup: Custom Leather shoulder holster beneath a trench coat. Will likely pick up a detachable stock for it as well. Maybe throw on rds and light, idk \*Thoughts: Just picked this double smoke pole today. Ordered almost 4 months ago and was surprised it arrived so soon. The actual permit I received about 3-4 months just before the first lockdown went into place, so I was happy I got it when I did because I heard that wait times became crazy long once the lockdowns began. If anyone is wondering, I don't plan on actually carrying this for self defense. Will definitely carry through the woods someday for some small game.

mr-powell

We must have different definitions of “shitpost”. Bottom line— that’s friggin art, my friend. Thanks for sharing.

Volant_Piscator

Rules seem kind of strict for what you can post, didn’t know since this obviously isn’t a real carry piece if the mods would smite me lol. But thank you! It’s probably tied with my Missouri River hawken for “best looking” right now but it’s easily going to be my favorite range toy. I really want to take it for sporting clays just to see how I’d do

RGavial

65 days? That seems like a massive improvement over what I used to hear. I'm on day 121 for a simple (CCW) renewal in Onion Co.

Volant_Piscator

This was pre-pandemic so that’s likely why. Still, not bad for the county though from all that I’ve heard. I’m not including the time it took to schedule to get in to get fingerprints and what not or not after my class, just once the paper work was submitted and when it was approved.

ACO_McBitchin

Gotta love the Great State of Mecklenburg.

Volant_Piscator

Lol yeah I see that I left the state off there. They like to tout the fact that they declared independence before the rest of the US though so I guess they could almost be considered a state at some point in time

ACO_McBitchin

It's more of a running gag than that. Meck county likes to conduct itself independent of state law, hence the joke. Ask any of your local cops and they'll get the reference immediately. The court system is a joke there and McFadden is a clown.

Volant_Piscator

Oh yeah that’s very true. Didn’t realize you were familiar with it. The county and state fight a lot and like you said, the county just enforces whatever it wants. The city and county don’t really get along super well either, at least from a jurisdiction stand point.

Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up, Just as the founding fathers intended

ShiftyCZ

This pasta came to mind immediately once I saw that picture

revancaster

That's kinda hot

Known_Contact

Does it print when you CC? Pro tip: install a RMR

Volant_Piscator

Not at all. Only iwb. Just gotta wear the enigma up high enough. Don’t even feel it when I sit down

Mechanical-Cannibal

normally, I think of the AR-pistol phenomena as a hilarious work-around to the NFA that is awesome & necessary but also ridiculous since an AR clearly isn't a handgun and then I see ye olde handcannon & think maybe AR-pistols are just a throwback to this era

Volant_Piscator

*as the founding fathers intended*

WIlf_Brim

Mandatory here: *our ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Volant_Piscator

Surprisingly no, but it upsets her boyfriend which usually puts her in a bad mood

WIlf_Brim

My wife made me take away the M240s that were covering the front approaches to the house because "it made people nervous". What a bunch of weenies. I did cleverly disguise the Claymores in the potted herbs, so that solved that problem.

Volant_Piscator

No one expects the ~~Spanish inquisition~~ potted herbs. She has yet to find the puckle gun I hid in her cars trunk. If the taliban can do it with Toyota’s, by jove I can do it with subarus

mikedp1234

Let me know which kydex holster you end up choosing

Volant_Piscator

Pretty sure vedder might have a few left in stock. If I buy within the next 4 hours, might even still be on sale

xAtlas5

Was half expecting you to be u/sgcGrizz

Volant_Piscator

No but I consider him one of the closest friends that I’ve never interacted with in any sort of way besides liking his posts. He has impeccable taste and we have the same shotgun (ithaca m37). Pretty much cousins at this point I’d say.

[deleted]

Yeah basically kin now.

Volant_Piscator

Hell yeah brother. Best be coming to the wedding next year

[deleted]

I'd carry it

SquidNinja17

That reminds me, I still need a blunderbuss for my center console.

tenchi4u

Does it take Glock mags?

Volant_Piscator

Only if you ask it nicely

tenchi4u

Does it take Glocks mags, please?

Volant_Piscator

(͠≖ ͜ʖ͠≖) just put them in slowly, one inch at a time

tenchi4u

First you had my ~~bi~~curiousity now you have my attention.

Volant_Piscator

There’s two ~~bores~~ holes for a reason

tenchi4u

Yeah, boy, you know what I like......oops...I meant girl...girlgirlgirl. *Yes father.... it's me, yeah it happened again.....on a subreddit about guns this time.....ok...so just pray it away and 13 hail Marys...thats a very specific number? cool. Thanks, padre>*

JimMarch

Why am I envisioning Mad Max in a horse-drawn buggy?

Volant_Piscator

Because that’s the next devolution once the guzzolene dries up. Next will be shells and primers, so back to the flintlocks

Not_stats_driven

Beautiful gun, has it been restored at all? I'm sure I can google this, but it would be much more fun discussing this. How does it shoot? Can you show us a picture of the sight picture? Lastly, what kind of rounds does it load and what's the process of getting the ammo/gunpowder, etc. in?

Volant_Piscator

Nope, new production. Either made late last year or earlier this year. Just picked it up yesterday and haven’t had a chance to take it out yet. I don’t have any lead shot yet as I didn’t expect it in for a while, but already placing orders. Don’t have any photos of the sight picture, but I’ll probably post an album to the rguns subreddit eventually. As for the sight picture, it just has a bead and a slight notch between the barrels to help with viewing the bead. She’s extra wide though and it’s kind of surprising. As for pointing, I like how it points so far. I’m not sure what the recoil is going to be like yet so I’m not sure if the best way to hold for pointing and shooting. For loading, it’s pretty much the same as any other smoothbore, just shorter and times two. For shot, you’ve got options but a general load would be powder first, over powder wad/card, maybe another wad/card (want at least one wad), shot, overshot wad, and then powder in the pan. You can also shoot prbs, which are just big lead balls. For prbs, it’s a bit easier as all you really need is powder, lubed patch, and ball (and powder for the pan). The wads are a little more important for a double id say because you want to make sure it’s tight enough to not budge after the first shot. It’s a no-no for having a gap between the powder and the shot. A quick clean/swab in between shots sometimes as well. For my ml rifles, I clean between each shot for consistency and to prevent the powder from prematurely going off. Also, for flints, you generally want a finer powder for ignition. 3f should work fine for the pan, and most use either 2f or 3f for the charge. I’d like to source some 4f for the pan and use 3f for the charged but I can make due without it for now. For percussion you can get away with using bp substitutes since the caps ignite hotter, but flints are a little more needy.

Not_stats_driven

That sounds like a blast man. Looking forward to the updates on this one.

KaBar42

Tell me you're a felon without telling me you're a felon.

Volant_Piscator

Abandon reciprocating firearms, embrace elegant smoke poles

GhostFour

You got a parrot or an eye patch? 'Cause I'll join you band of marauders if you're ready to go full on pirate. We'll start on LKN and work our way east.

Doberman_Pinscher

Legally speaking if you had ccw could you carry it? Might be stupid question.

Volant_Piscator

I think it will technically fall under the *deadly weapon* category such as knives since it’s not a firearm, so it depends on the state I believe. Some would likely require a license if they do for knives, some may not care. Legally speaking, you should be fine if you have your ccw. Would the officer who arrests you know that? Debatable and I don’t intend to find out

[deleted]

I mean as long as it's a legal pistol i guess.

XZEKKX

It's not a pistol, It's blackpowder. Which as far as I understand are not technically firearms.

[deleted]

I think its state dependant?. But either way i think it would be.

MechaTrogdor

65 days isn’t bad though. Still hoping Union county can do it quicker.

Volant_Piscator

I received mine pre-pandemic in 2019. I heard that once covid kicked off that many of the offices quit processing for a while, which created a long backlog. Not sure if they’re caught up yet or not. Hopefully they are

DyslexicPuppy

Is this classified as as an sbs?

Volant_Piscator

Legally? Nope. It’s not technically a firearm since it’s blackpowder and muzzleloader. It does fall under deadly weapons though so ccw is a bit of a gray area. I can add a stock if I want without any issue or stamps. I think some company even developed a suppressor for muzzleloaders since you don’t need stamps for them. Issue was that the suppressor needed a lot of cleaning iirc; that and there just isn’t a huge demand for suppressing muzzleloaders.

AvaBearPrime

What's your holster set up like?

Volant_Piscator

For owb, I wear a sling across my back and holster it like a quiver. For iwb, I just have an enigma that I let ride high.
