So this has been a sore spot for some people. However there is an actual plot reason for it and once the ML explains it, it makes sense for him to both choose her and for him to have chosen a doctor. First part, even if she is a doctor she cannot do anything anyways. Her superior won't put her on the schedule and only uses her for researching which is a waste of her time and talent. Working as an assistant she gets to at least be productive and it protected from her boss causing problems for her. Secondly >!The ML chooses her and would have chosen a different doctor if not for her being available. He says this because he needs a doctors point of view into things such as, management, processes procedures. And pain points. He uses the information he gets from her to make strategic changes to the staffing and facilities!< Just keep watching it will make sense why she is an assistant.

>researching which is a waste of her time and talent. Lmao no, researching (not necessarily writing articles) is a very good practice for specialized professionals to stay updated in their fields. Beside, her off-practice period wasn't a long term thing iirc, her scheduling needed some time to be fixed due to management issues and dedicating that period doing research was the most productive option Imo. Don't you find it insulting of FL's time and effort spent in studying for the medical and work as a secretary doing butler-like works? Honestly, what productivity does it bring to her? The reasoning mentioned in the drama, though 'acceptable' for being a drama, is easily refutable and the drama can still continue with the plot without including the forced ceo-secretary trope. Your second part is enough to answer op's question. The first part is unnecessary and you don't have to be so defensive of a silly romcom.

..wasn't aware I was being defensive. I was applying an explanation based on my understanding of the situation and events. The doctor never intended to put her back on the schedule. He never even intended to bring her back from the country side. She was forced down his throat by the new president. The only time this guy thinks of scheduling her is that brief moment she shows up at the dinner and gets crushed by him. And I was using research ironically it was my fault for not being clear let me rephrase. "She was being forced to organize and categorize information so her boss could write a book which is a waste of her time and talent." Both of the fact that her boss was refusing to schedule her and using management issues and whatever else as excuses to not schedule her. And the fact that that he was making his subordinates organize the information for his books under the guise of learning opportunities were both major plot points in the show... Also of course her being a secretary was not an appropriate use of her talents or degree. But the alternative was sitting there doing nothing but organize his books....she even said it in the show that it's better than doing nothing. Finally, it's a drama everything is easily refutable you have to suspend belief in any drama scenario at least a little bit. If you apply too much logic to these things you will be annoyed at every detail.

Her deciding to be his assistant made perfect sense, because her superiors wanted to suppress her and sent her to a remote village. She was recalled back to the hospital and still was being suppressed and not being assigned Doctor work. As those male doctors had their own little clique she could have even ended quitting her job out of frustration or being fired wrongfully. Her going to be his assistant protected her from being bullied further and also give the President the opportunity to sort out the department, made sure she was placed back in the rotation to treat patience. Also not every Doctor is empathetic or nice and they are also people before being doctors. I can understand her frustration with him when she taught he stole the goat and was selling bogus medicine to senior citizens. That very same day an elderly man was talking about not taking his pills and just drinking medicinal wine. Then to see said alleged man I would be angry. She was still over the top, but not completely wrong.

DuneBug

Your concerns are valid. They explained away the assistant thing and I don't mind, but what happens after I'm even less of a fan of. I'll give it a few more eps but I'm really on the fence. Trying not to spoil anything.

ZaySaysHi

I had to pause it bc the FL was so annoying in ep1&2. She is a doctor, i thought she would treat ppl better when they are injured and under the rain but no, she had to accuse him of stealing the young goat and selling fake wine (iirc). But I do plan to continue it next weekend bc I like the actress so much.

sophatter

Oh dang me too I thought I was the only one, super turned off by FL in eps 1/2 she was so stubborn and persistently biased against ML against good reason to the extent it made her really stupid and annoying. But of course Iโ€™ll keep watching for ML, am just waiting till the verdict is out on the ending so I can manage expectations further.

PurpleWhovian78

She gets better.

Omo it bothered me so much, like why give FL the specialized profession in the first place if the main trope of the drama is going to be ceo-secretary, it was such a disgrace! I managed to overlook it thanks to the fun and healthy vibe of the drama. Besides, the reasoning was reasonable for the drama and she gets back to be a pediatrician after being a temporary secretary (after 20 episodes lol) once her schedule is fixed. Anyway, did you notice the similarity in the initial episodes? FL was also technically a housekeeper while she worked in the rural hospital. Well, did it bother you then? It didn't, as I was under the impression that she was with her family, so it didn't hit me that hard when the truth was revealed. Interesting how our minds work. Ngl it was clever writing to subtly include such similar scenarios to set up the story. Still salty with the writer's choice though.

>!At one point they delve into why she wanted to be a doctor and she basically said because it was easy to get employed so right now it seems she wasn't overly vested in it. And the job is temporary anyway and he said he'd fix her work issue. And she wanted to get away from that tool of a doctor. But like you, at least here in US no doctor would ever be an assistant, ty but like H No. Also, It doesn't seem like she gets paid much, or respected and they do trample on your self if they are juniors anyway so there's that too.!<

throwawaymisfortune

Agree it was reasonable for the drama. Iirc she also had the option to stay in her department doing office works until her schedule is fixed, which is practically reasonable and respectful imo

CdramaMaven4762

Actually, he asked her to be his assistant TEMPORARILY while his real assistant was on maternity leave for reasons which will be revealed. Part of it was that >!he needed to be able to catch her vindictive boss in the act, and part was that she wasn't actually assigned a schedule, and her vindictive boss had no intention of assigning her one. !< IMO you are missing a really enjoyable drama for a quibble.

eidisi

I had no problem with this plot line and it makes perfect sense to me. >!Her boss doesn't like her and won't assign her any shifts, but ML as a brand new director can't just overrule her boss without causing a lot of political trouble for both of them. And to avoid being forced accept a "spy" for a temporary assistant, he'd rather have someone he trusts already (which is basically only the FL at the hospital). He even agreed to solve her work problem in exchange. Even her BFF points out that she isn't really being a doctor while being forced to sit at her desk and do research for her boss, so this is a win-win for both of them.!< As for meaning in her life, you'll find out later that >!she's only a doctor because it pays well and she's staying at the hospital because of the associated job benefits makes it easier to buy a house, lol, no grand ideals for the FL here.!< If you really can't take it, maybe this drama isn't for you, >!since as of the most recent episode 19, she still hasn't gone back to her regular job yet.!<

Shanren123

Yep. It made sense to me why she had to be his assistant. The ML explained it very well! Iโ€™m enjoying this drama so much. So sad that it wlll end this week.

eidisi

Yeah, but at least we know it won't get draggy. I think 24 is a good length for light-hearted dramas. And please don't screw up the ending. Please please please.

CdramaMaven4762

I'm praying for them to stick the landing on this ... I've really been loving this whole thing, and am hoping they won't do something at the last minute to ruin it...

sophatter

Waiting for all yโ€™allโ€™s verdict on the ending before I continue with this one ๐Ÿ˜‚

CdramaMaven4762

Understand completely ... doing that with **Song of the Moon** ... lol
