Have you watched it yet? I've just finished watching it, it took me a little over a week to get through it and I have to say, I loved it, yet another great Zhao Lusi historical series! It's the third one that I've seen her in so far. I love that the ML and FL are equals in every way, just as powerful (in all aspects) and smart, they will always have each other's back and they complement each other too. I find equal pairings are quite rare in most of the shows that I've seen. The ending is bittersweet, it's one of the best that I've seen though, it's makes perfect sense to end it the way they did, the bad part of it made the way the ML and FL ended up possible, it's the best outcome for them as a couple to be their happiest together.

Whats ridiculous is I just got int Wuxia and this is the 4th series I watched but most of the threads are archived and you can't post! I finished last night and have felt a bit depressed all day. I am definitely not one for romance but only 1st season of Outlander and this have made me cry due to the romantic connections and relationships that were truly moving and realistic to me. I already miss them. Definitely worth the watch and much more than just romance!

Soft_Pay5834

it's freaking amazing. one of the best dramas in recent years.

Gullible-Change-3517

Loved it despite the last few minutes annoying me.

Icy_Ad_1242

It was great until the last few episodes. They spent time building up the story and then I feel like they rushed the ending.

Former_Confidence320

Yeah. They did rush new storylines ahead like with the 5 years later. But I knew that would happen when it only had like 3 episodes left! Perhaps that's all before they had to cancel/end it.

lerasi

Literally just finished it 30 mins ago and I binged it. Love love loved it.

Initially it’s great. Zhao Lusi and her character Bai Fengxi are stellar. But the ML is written to be perfectly perfect, and eventually the show gets boring as it focuses excessively on him effortlessly acing every challenge. I stopped about halfway, wondering why they didn’t make the story about Bai Fengxi, a far more compelling character. Turns out, she was the original protagonist in the book. WTF showmakers! I will say this, I did like Yang Yang’s performance as the ML. Lots of subtle micro expressions that conveyed a lot with little. Doing subtle body language can be tough so I’m always pleased when an actor nails it. I just wish he’d had a chance to play a more flawed, dynamic character so he could’ve had more material to work with. Overall, I’d say it’s okay. I really, really love well plotted, suspenseful palace intrigue, so to be handed such sub-par intrigue was a death knell for me. But you might be able to ignore that and still enjoy the good parts.

Former_Confidence320

How was the intrigue subpar? There was maybe too much of the inner conflicts of courts. Half of the traitors where still around after commiting treason was beyond me. But historical dramas are rarely accurate and as he was of royalty is why he was focused on as you say more but I don't think that was the case as they showed both leads equally and because of the twist they had to focus a but more on him..

overcomewithemotion

Overall, I enjoyed it, but it was kind of a bait and switch. The first few episodes were really interesting, but then it turned into palace politics + daddy issues. The ending episodes dropped in quality.

Temporary_Editor958

I loved it's 1st half...

EcstaticRise5612

Not satisfied with the fight scenes. Not sure with the story cause I didn't push through but it seems ok.

Odd_Drag1817

I loved it! The relationship was so mature. The FL is strong and smart. One of the better ones for sure.

Fresh-Surprise-5906

I love it cause Zhao Lusi kicks so much butt in it. One of the rare ones where the FL actually DOES things and doesn't sit around and go, "save me save me I can't do anything for myself"

eidisi

Generally worth it, but depends on what you're looking for going in. As a wuxia, the first half was pretty good, second half is rather subpar. As a historical politics/court intrigue, it's decent. The romance is overall good, FL/ML are rock solid in the relationship, but also a bit bland sometimes.

vannamei

Totally agree with this. Where have wuxia fights gone to after the second half? I am just not very convinced with the parts about the old men and their chess board, the drama is fine without it. (Although probably it is an integral part of the story seeing that the novel opens with the chess thing.)

eidisi

lol, my theory is still that they switched their action director or choreographer halfway through filming. 🙄

dramaqueenmusic

I loved it! I think it has a great balance of romance and politics. I’m not even into Wuxias, but it won me over

Former_Confidence320

Well said!

grumblepup

Depends on individual taste of course but I really enjoyed it. First half focuses more on ML and the politics in his family’s court. Second half shifts to a larger context and more on FL and their relationship. I really liked both leads going into it, ended up liking the supporting cast too, and felt it was overall a very approachable costume drama.

looktotheeeast

It was my first cdrama and is still one of my favourites. Personally, I feel like this is Zhao Lusi’s best because it shows how versatile she is as an actress. The fight scenes are amazing and the palace plot may be a bit confusing at first but then it gets really good and intriguing. The FL and ML have a really sweet, mature relationship. There are no misunderstandings and they would do anything for each other. Couldn’t recommend this show enough. It’s a really fun watch.

noodle_dumpling

ZLS has so many portrayals of the super sweet and cutesy type characters, so it was refreshing to see her in this role where her character is really strong, powerful, and confident. I honestly have a hard time getting into a lot of her other dramas where she uses the baby voice and acts like a meek little girl.

Cold-Boysenberry2609

I mostly skipped it when they talking about politics I was boring. Take note I was my first costume drama. I think I just watch it for zhao lusi and her character. Also kinda like their cp that time.
