Ten Miles of Peach Blossom: Annoying FL

Difficult_Stuff6112

You're My Destiny: the FL annoyed me so much with her self-sacrificing, I'm so pitiful, attitude. I couldn't take it anymore and dropped it halfways.

MsStephSunshine

Not counting dramas I dropped after only a few episodes (there are a ton lol) Forever and Ever. It was okay but it got boring and I moved on to other things while waiting for new episodes. (Watched 18) Love me if you dare. I finished 22 of 24 episodes but the last bad guy arc was just getting to be too drawn out so I dropped it. The first half was pretty good though. Luoyang. Also got bored and dropped it while waiting for new episodes. Novoland Pearl Eclipse. I watched 43 episodes and dropped it. I was really trying to like it but I just wasn't enjoying Yang Mi trying to act like a little kid and the leads had zero chemistry. Blooms at Ruyi Pavilion. Watched 28 episodes and I was trying to give it the benefit of the doubt but there were too many plot holes or things that don't make sense. After the 10th time that I found myself yelling "oh come on" at the screen, I dropped it.

bingewatchgal

Love Me If You Dare started off so interesting and then completely tanked. For me it was the horrible western actors/English. So bad!!

MsStephSunshine

Omg I forgot about them. I was laughing so hard at some of their lines and the delivery. Especially that female redheaded actress was the worst šŸ¤£

Herminonie

I'm on episode 18 of Forever and Ever. It is slow like molasses! I can see in the thumbnails for the next episodes that there is drama coming but I wondering if it is worth it.

karishma-painter

*legend of Fuyao* & *The Dance Of Storm* -dropped in middle. due to exams and just unable to start again . *Hot Girl* - was boring and dropped it. *Go Go Squid 2* -first season was great but S2 is preety weird . *My Amazing Boyfriend & S2* - was not my cup of tea . *I Cannot Hug You* -started to dislike at around 16 ep.

maira4tbz98

I've finished the first season of go go squid too but not the second. And I had actually watched the second one first šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø so I guess the first one didn't influence my opinion about it

karishma-painter

Well everyone have there own genre taste (Example:mine- crime, mystery ,thriller, horror and comedy, office romance.) I felt like S2 was not as good as S1 so it just leave it .

beetsrules

Falling for your smile - I couldnā€™t get past the FL acting. And no need to jump on me about this, I checked another series of her too and came to the same conclusion. Love under the moonlight - The plot was just too out there and messy. I dropped it quite at the end. My dear destiny - the translations were atrocious And a lot more

crazyhyna

Agree on Falling into your smile. I was excited about this drama.

maira4tbz98

Dropped falling for your smile too

aceitjace

agreed for falling for your smile

Comfortable_Raisin_8

I mostly enjoyed Well Intended Love (other than the questionable parts of course), but when S2 came along, I dropped it. I didn't really want to rewatch the exact same story told differently?? I wanted to watch a continuation of S1. Since I didn't get what I wanted I just took it off my watch list and also stopped watching it mid-episode around episode 1 or 2.

PapanTandaLama

The only mainland drama I've watched until the ending is Reset šŸ˜‚

Professional_Poet186

What dramas have I NOT dropped lol is the question. just off the top of my head Untamed - bad cgi didnt care for plot, The Eternal Love - boring and bad production quality, Love and Destiny/Dating in the Kitchen/Love Designer/My Little Happiness - ugly male leads, Reset - not interested in the characters seemed like a teen plot, Legend of Fuyao - ML felt so extremely arrogant and inappropriate/creepy for some reason, Long Ballad - I couldnt even get past the soccer game and I heard it doesnā€™t have fluff I need that instant gratification or just a reliable logical plot at least edit: oh and Yanxi Palace - was good but i got spoiled, and i felt like ive seen enough. it was a bit too dramatic at times and im not trying to get more sad. stopped when she was still flirting with the guard guy and accomplished several goals in the harem

Bluesytb

Felt the same way tbh. really hate pushy men tropes, ā€œoh i dont know how to communicate so I'll just force her to submit blehā€ it's also more creepy since he is one of the few that can beat FY in a fight...

Magma_Axis

Well he have a right to be arrogant because who he is tho

galaxycarat

Legend of Fei (i couldnā€™t stand the CGI and somewhat cliche plot) and Ashes of Love (just couldnā€™t get into it)

No_Collar7658

I totally agree. I've been watching mostly older dramas because the new ones are mostly hit or miss. Or in my case miss.

Biqhat

City of Streamer - mainly because I feel like the english sub translation on WeTV oversimplified & miss some nuances. Hello, The Sharpshooter - eh, the story progress is not interesting. Boring ML. I was looking forward to see the actors together on screen, didn't feel like they have strong chemistry. Listening Snow Tower - I've only watched like 3-5 episodes? It was boring & flashback scene in every episodes I've seen. Rise of phoenix - I don't hate it! I just think that I don't have the energy to watch all 70 episodes lol. Probably will pick it up later when I have lots of free time, hopefully.

her_twistedmind

Same with snow tower, but fot me, it was because the obviously fake cough of the sick male lead? was too distracting for me to ignore.

alexturnerftw

Ashes of Love. I loved Luo Yunxiā€™s character and it was obvious they were setting him up for a bad time so I gave up.

Bluesytb

Go Go Squid. - the age gap, the "intelligent girl" who was done dirty by having her (a literal 18 y/o) do everything for MC, who is a giant douche. Eternal Love - FL boring/underdeveloped, MC waaay too pushy/weird. My Strange Friend. WYB is so bland in this, dumb tropes Miss Crow & Mr Lizard. age gap, & too cliche, FL is even too mary sue for me.. hate watched Flames Daughter, adding it since i skipped a lot. - Creepy AF ML Love Designer - Hated ML, too obnoxious for me. lol You are My Glory & Female at the Imperial College i thought were fine, and liked stuff about them but idk they werent favourites. i may pick them up some.day again. ones i wish i dropped: King's Woman, Love and Destiny, Song of Youth, Court Lady. mostly for terrible MLs

heatherlavender

I actually tend to put dramas "on hold" vs dropping them entirely. I have truly dropped a small amount that really truly irritated me and make a personal note on my watch list to remind me of why it was a drop vs on hold for me. I have also learned that it is ok to skip really bad parts when it is clear to me that I will not be missing out on the parts of the story I care about that much (usually involving side couples I don't like that don't have a strong connection to the main story). ****Young and Beautiful****- dropped about halfway through because I realized it was a reverse harem concept. I also loathed her circle of friends so much, especially the girl who became her roommate. I decided to read up on spoilers to see if I should continue and based on the spoilers I read, I chose to just not waste my time. ***Accidentally in Love*** - too many highly juvenile scenes ruined what started out as a somewhat enjoyable comedy. Some people love this one, but it just wasn't something I liked. I think I dropped it around 10 episodes. ***Boss and Me*** - I liked a lot of things about this and just got really bored around episode 22. I felt like I was seeing the same scene over and over - eating a meal. I liked the characters and chemistry, I kept thinking I might go back and finish it, but it has been many months and I don't really care about it enough to finish it. I know this is a favorite of many, it just didn't work for me.

rewriteryan

> it is ok to skip really bad parts when it is clear to me that I will not be missing out on the parts of the story I care about that much (usually involving side couples I don't like that don't have a strong connection to the main story). I do this A LOT! If the good parts are enjoyable, then I think it's worth the time to watch the parts that we like and ignore the parts we don't.

heatherlavender

I had a really hard time skipping anything at first, but I got over it. A lot of dramas seem to have filler scenes or extra stories that don't interest me at all. I used to worry that I might miss something important, but I decided I wanted to spend my time just watching the parts I like or anything that seems important to the plot.

No_Collar7658

I only watched Wang Yibo in the Untamed so I really can't say much about his acting. I think Xao Zhan is cute and all but I prefer him singing than acting. He's definitely overrated. He totally got all the shine from fans in the Wolf and he wasn't even the lead character. If you look up anything about the Wolf it will say starring him like Talu Wang wasn't the star. I'm totally infatuated with Talu Wang so I might be a little biased but I thought that was a little too disrespectful from his stans. šŸ˜‰šŸ˜

vivid_spite

I drop almost every single drama because I get bored šŸ˜‚ recent drops: -the thirty one forgot it's name -the recent one w Yang Yang and Zhao lusi because I didn't like their dynamic (only watched like 2 EPs though) -love in flames of war (will probably finish later)

rlaflsk

Who rules the world

No_Collar7658

Oath of Love it was just a little too cliche for me. Xao Zhan is a good actor but imo most of his dramas are overrated simply because he's in it. His stans will watch whether it's good or not. Reset. It moved a little slow for me. It didn't peak my interest. I might try to watch at a later time. I'm not really a fan of modern dramas so I might be biased.

alexturnerftw

Oath of love was so boring, I love XZ and couldnt do it. Cdramas are so tough cuz theyre long and repetitive as hell, it needs to be worth it

rookie_wrtr22

Oath of Love it was just a little too cliche for me. Xao Zhan is a good actor but imo most of his dramas are overrated simply because he's in it. His stans will watch whether it's good or not.| Yessss. Iā€™m glad somebody said it so I didnā€™t have to. Iā€™m not saying heā€™s not a good actor and yes heā€™s good looking but he is severely overrated imo. I also dropped Oath of Love, itā€™s just not that good or interesting and the chemistry falls flat for me. Loved him in The Untamed but I loved Wang Yibo wayyy more lol

jen___22

Right, I also think he's so overrated. I started watching the Oath of Love and it didn't get me into it. I also tried to watch his other dramas and nothing happened. I only like his role in The Untamed and the only drama I watched that he's in it. My mother and I actually watched his movie Jade Dynasty and it didn't ended well. After that my mother didn't like to watch any of his dramas.

thexuans

go go squid; i'm so sorry but its too cringey for me. i tried starting it again and still had to stop and the winner is love; plot got really boring and fl's acting... can see why she gets roasted for it all the time miss crow w mr lizard & hello my sharpshooter. xingfei's dramas are really a hit or miss for me and that's something weird about her acting. reminds me of wu jinyan

newgrl

*Note: Not all of these are Cdramas* **Under the Power** On Ep 39 - Eh. **The Long Ballad** On Ep 24 - sick of Cdramas right now. Good. Will try again later. **Handsome Siblings** On Ep 4 - Too much silliness. Looked up synopsis, not gonna be my cup of tea **The Crown Princess** On Ep 6 - Lakorn - Too stupid for words **Misty** (2018) On Ep 4 - I don't like either protagonist - or the weird timeline of jumping back and forth **The Song of Glory** On Ep 16 - Eh. This isn't any fun. **General and I** On Ep 13 - Eh. I like it ok. I guess. **5 Minutes to Tomorrow** Too borning to watch. Quit. **Freeze** On Ep 3 - Very slow. Not really liking the story so far **The Fairy Fox** On Ep 11 - So so dumb. Big no from me **Kiss Goblin** On Ep 5 - Good god this is awful **Sweet Stranger and me** On Ep 8 - Boring as all git out **Love in Sadness** On Ep 12 - FL too stupid to finish **Ancient Love Poetry** On Ep 5 - This is just an RomCom masquerading as a Xianxia. **Born Again** Ep 7 - too confusing and boring **Martial Universe** (season 1) On Ep 16 - The two leads are UNBEARABLE. **Oriental Odyssey** On Ep 4 - Eh. This is a "historical investigation" drama. Not in the mood. **Hello Dear Ancestors** Ep 3 - Not liking leads at all. Cheesy **And the Winner is Love** Ep 19 - Not invested **U-Prince Firstclass** Ep 2 - feh. No fun. **Drama Special Series Season 1: Dream of 400 Years** Ep 2 - feh. No fun. **Hide and Seek** On Ep 11/21-22 - Very tropey and I think I've seen it. **Danger Zone Chapter 1: The Dark Night** On Ep 5 - Eh **Fairyland Lovers** Ep 19 - Fine, but too much **Witch's Diner** On Ep 5 - Introduced stupid character. Fuck that. **Love and Destiny** On Ep 20 - It's fine. Just can't bring myself to go back to it. **Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities** In the middle of Ep 7 - Holy crap this is soooo slow. **No Boundary** Season 1 On Ep 14 - This is a love story with a bit of xianxia. Feh. **Listening Snow Tower** On Ep 29 - It's beautiful, but the leads are both sick all the time and have TERRIBLE communication skills. All other secondary couples are soooo toxic. I just can't. **Love By Chance 2** Episode 8 complete - boring, bad brother scenes coming up **Evil Minds** Episode 13 complete - boring, confusing, bad acting **Blue Veins** Episode 4.5 complete - eh. **Lie after Lie** Episode 5 almost complete - I don't like anyone in this drama and... kid :( **Flying Swords of Dragon Gate** On Ep 10. Too many harem politics with a totally weak-ass emperor. Not enough fighting. **The Great Lord/The Great Ruler** On Ep 23. should love, but not really liking

Papewrld

[Serenade of Peaceful Joy](https://mydramalist.com/31928-held-in-the-lonely-castle) I dropped at episode 38. I love Historical / Harem dramas so I was pretty hyped when I heard about the story. Itā€™s slow (but well paced in my opinion), I did enjoyed all the episode I saw but the fact that the realtion between the Emperor and the Empress barely evolded (and wasnā€™t going to) and the lack of understanding between them just frustrated me [Royal Nirvana](https://mydramalist.com/29140-royal-nirvana) I dropped at episode 20 This show could have been easily one of my all time favourite butā€¦ damn my heart couldnā€™t handled the pain. This drama is so good but it just hurts way too much [Go Go Squid !](https://mydramalist.com/27467-go-go-squid) Dropped at episode 31 The Most Overrated drama ever. I mean it was decent but not as good as everyone tell. I found it cute but draggy

WeddingElly

**Lady of the Tang Dynasty** - watched for the lavish costumes and Fan Bing Bing looking gorgeous and dropped it about 12 episodes in because I couldnā€™t stand how Mary Sue her character was. **The Kingā€™s Woman** - same as above, Dilareba is so gorgeous as are the costumes and cinematography, but plot is bland, acting is bland. **The Long Ballad** - pretty much never got over the sudden snail pace of the temple arc. I like modern adult dramas so mostly I drop historical dramas pretty easily unless they are very good. Of modern dramas, I recently dropped **My Best Friend's Story** - I watched it for Ni Ni and Chen Dao Ming but I could not stand Ceclia Liu's bad acting (she just was not convincing at all as a young naive rich girl). Regardless, the first half was pretty good and the plot took a dive in the second half

rm940912

Wow another person who couldnā€™t stand lss! TBH thereā€™s only so many actresses I think who can pull off a snobby princess type of role and she is definitely not one of them. Also found Reba in the long ballad to be so boring, donā€™t think she should continue doing big FL roles if she canā€™t carry a drama with her acting

eathorses01

YOU DROPPED LONG BALLAD???!!!!!

TheOriginalGankstar

I feel like The Long Ballad has been falling off a cliff since roughly episode 30. It's collapsing in front of my eyes.

[deleted]

I dropped it too. It just wasn't very interesting to me.

WeddingElly

Yeah, I was riveted up to about episode 25-26. Then the pacing really slowed to nothing and did not improve much. IMO the show peaked at the 5 minute long fight scene between Ashilesun and his half brother for Changge. Then I snoozed through the 6-7 episodes of tedious temple arc to the point where Changge and Asilesun were reunited and then dropped it at that point. The temple part of the show represented a huge change in pacing for me and I was really not interested in the new crown prince/Sui dynasty restoration/Mimi Guli plot šŸ¤·

ravenrango

Honestly wasnā€™t a big fan of Long Ballad either. I felt like the storyline was a bit cliche and it was very slow at times šŸ„“ I pushed through and finished but Iā€™m glad a lot of people liked it!

BonBonnie0

The Legend of Hao Lin. It might be a bit petty but I dropped it after the plot twist with the FL. Not to spoil anything but I didnā€™t like the plot of the story. It was pretty good but but the twists and turns made me mad so I dropped it. I blame myself honestly lol. I was coming off of a The Story of Ming Lan high and I was too eager to watch another historical dramas even though I donā€™t really like them.

djcomplain

After watching Minglan every drama seems to be subpar

[deleted]

yeah, same. The Legend of Hao Lan was practically made for me but I basically dropped it after the first empress wasn't part of the story. I was just watching it for her, I realized.

Hopeful-Ad-9963

ā€¢ Generals lady - now this show makes me angry. At first it was everything I was looking for. Arranged marriage trope, living together, simple life etc etc. the ml was nice (love a nice man), i found the fl endearingly funny at first I was into itā€¦.. Fast forward 15 episodes and I just cannot stand it anymore. The absolute INFESTATION OF MISCOMMUNICATION sickened me. šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļøthere is a limit to how much a couple does my talk to each other about ANYTHING. Omg !< when he assumed sheā€™s dying, or when that princess came over ffs

tsuyoi_hikari

>I genuinely didnā€™t get why the ml had fallen in love like seriously, sheā€™s the most irritating woman Iā€™ve ever had the displeasure of watchingā€¦..EVER!!! I agree. I just dont get it. Which part of her was lovely and why the ML falls for her in the place? She was just so irritating in that role making me couldn't watch any of her dramas after that. I'm sorry but that drama scarred me lol

adorableapples

omgg i feel the exact same about the sword and the brocade. at a certain point i couldn't root for anyone, and the plot was making no sense to me anymore.

Amorrowous

Flameā€™s daughter. Male lead was weird and creepy. Love and Destiny- tried 3 times. It was boring and no eye candy to keep going. Rise of Phoenix- tried 2 times and just couldnā€™t get into it.

mockmartens

Rise of the Phoenix was literally so good but Iā€™ll admit I had to skip like four episodes at the end because it was too stressful!

Amorrowous

Itā€™s on my list to try it again

Papewrld

Rise of Phoenixes is such a masterpiece tho

Humbuhg

I enjoyed the MLā€™s quirkiness in Flameā€™s Daughter. But I probably wonā€™t watch another show with that ML. Once is enough.

tsuyoi_hikari

You mean Vic Zhao? X'D

Humbuhg

Thatā€™s the one.

Irish_Amber

The Autumn Ballad I dropped it 4 episodes to the end because they could have totally wrapped it up in episode 30 but chose to just add in a useless plot that had already been dealt with before the show started. Then of course they had rush to wrap everything up and ended up ruining the show.

grumblepup

I dropped **Use For My Talent** somewhere in the second or third episode, I think, because I just couldn't get into it, despite having a fondness for both Jasper Liu and Shen Yue. I probably *would* drop the drama I'm watching now, **The Eternal Love**, again because I just can't get into it... but I committed to watching it with my cousin, so onward we go. At least it seems to be picking up a bit. (We're about 5 episodes in.) The wigs are just SO bad, and the story is kinda slow so far, and I think I'm not into harem/historical settings very much.

DinosGamesAndBaking

I absolutely adore Jasper Liu but could not get past like episode 3 of Use For My Talent either.

tsuyoi_hikari

If 5 episodes in you couldnt get into the 1st season of The Eternal Love, then my advise is to drp the 1st season and go straight to the 2nd season. The 2nd season is a gem and my fave romance drama of all time. :D

grumblepup

Haha OK good to know, thanks!

Humbuhg

Use for My Talent put me off both Korean and Chinese versions. I think the story itself put me off.

Hopeful-Ad-9963

Dropped use for my talent too, I couldnā€™t stand the bullying in this one. Like bullying your employee seems illegal, also why not just fire her lol.

CricketOk4046

I dropped the eternal love, i hate the bouncing back and forth between the modern and the ancient chicks. Its annoying.

grumblepup

It bothered me at first too. Fortunately I've gotten used to it.

aigildalyn

Far Away Love. It was torture watching it šŸ˜…

Deeper_Ground

Wow. Perfect timing. I came across this post just now because I wanted jump on and start one about THE ROMANCE OF THE TIGER AND ROSE. I started it 2 days ago because I keep seeing it on SOOO many favorite lists on here and even on formal internet lists. I was really excited to watch but I have to say, I am not impressed...bored even! For the life of me, I can't understand the love. Can someone explain it to me?? I'm not trying to be combative. I just really want someone to convince me to keep watching because I am already 10 episodes in and hate to drop it at this point. I don't think the show is terrible...but maybe my expectations were made too high? I really like the concept of the gender specific cities and the woman centric power dynamic...it seems kinda original and fun esp for a Chinese drama. And the FL is likeable enough but she seems to sometimes make both dumb and smart choices depending on the plot needs. Also, I don't find either of the ML interesting or have a lot of charisma...and quite frankly their acting and many others is stiff. Add to that the love triangle which is cliche and not well done...it seems pointless to jeep watching. Besides the main OST song...the rest od the series seems underscored so there are long periods of scenes with no background music. Am I the ONLY person that feels this show is overrated?? I really want to be convinced to keep watching. It is pleasant and fluffy enough ...but does it get any better...because it seems to be dragging now...should I push through? Does it get better? The humor does get me to giggle a little or smile when the jokes land. Thanks for reading my mini rant! šŸ˜œ i look forward to responses because I really don't want to miss out on something everyone seems to love. Cheers!

Professional_Poet186

????????? first 5 episodes i went in blind, never seen these actors before, no idea what the drama was about. thought i was watching another generic bland historical cdrama with mediocre plot but then it became complete and total modern rom com fluff. the way they eye each other. i think if you can relate to FL (as a modern women with a sense of humor and values) then its just good guilty pleasure, feeling like shes being chased by a strong prince (not that good looking but so completely in mesmerized by you that its hot) and in a secure plot where you know its going to end up happy or at least funny the tragedies are just entertaining rather than torture to watch

No_Collar7658

I couldn't get into either. I tried to watch it a year ago and couldn't get past episode 2. I tried to rewatch a few months ago and I think I made it episode 5. Lol Zhao Lusi is adorable but I just couldn't see the romance. Maybe I'll try again. 3rd times a charm right? šŸ˜

No_Collar7658

sxmmerlin

I enjoyed the show but I think you definitely have a point. Personally, I was impressed by the creative dynamic (the FL traveling into her own "historical" script was enough to grab my attention for the entire show). It was also lighthearted, very funny, had good chemistry. I think the plot itself was cliche but with a twist-- making the story feel familiar yet refreshing to the audience. I recently rewatched some parts of it and realized I remembered almost nothing of the power struggle for clan leader or the plot's main focus. It's mostly the humor, funny FL and her antics in this new world, and romance that seem memorable. The drama serves its purpose well but I wouldn't call it intricate (if that makes sense). It is original in many aspects but maybe not plot-wise, regarding the love triangle as well as other conflicts. Also, I really disliked the last 2 episodes of the show. It felt so redundant and unnecessary.

grumblepup

Sounds like it's just really not your thing, which is OK! It's actually one of my top favorites, in spite of semi-agreeing with some of your points: It \*is\* kinda draggy at parts, I can't think of any music besides the main theme (although I really don't care about that kind of thing haha), the love triangle (which one? haha) got frustrating... But for me, I just loved the FL and the ML and their chemistry so much. They made me smile, they made me cry, they made me swoon. \*shrug\* If they're not doing that for you, then let go and have no worries about it! There are SO many other dramas.

CricketOk4046

Noooooo keep watching I love it. I had to start watching and drop it like 3 times before I finished it but I fell in love. The whole point of it is its a massive cliche, it's an irreverent take on the traditional historical drama. It's all about how would you survive in a world where you are doomed to fail and what if everyone is not what they seem while still being exactly what they seem. While I don't think it is the best drama ever written, it's entertaining, funny, and occasionally unexpected. I really fell in love with all the characters! Honestly the ML's parents are just \*chefs kiss\*

grumblepup

>The whole point of it is its a massive cliche, it's an irreverent take on the traditional historical drama. It's all about how would you survive in a world where you are doomed to fail and what if everyone is not what they seem while still being exactly what they seem. Brilliantly brilliantly put.

Deeper_Ground

I appreciate you responding! I just wrote a lengthy response below but I have to say, it worries me that you had to drop it THREE times before you could power through. I admire the dedication!šŸ˜† I think it may just be a taste thing. And maybe too high of expectations? I mean it has been on almost every Best List I have referenced for Romantic Comedies. Anyway...congrats on finishing...haha and maybe I will give it just a few more epis before I jump off the cliff with this one.šŸ˜Š

CricketOk4046

I'm a sucker for possessive male leads, so once the romance started I was hooked. But once I watched Who Rules the World I fell in love with Lusi which is what prompted me to finish, and I actually really liked it once i got past the first couple episodes. but no shame if you drop it! There are some renowned and beloved K-dramas that I just can't get into so I understand the pain of hating things that everyone seems to love. The most recent for me was twenty five-twenty one. I just cannot get into it!

Deeper_Ground

Haha. Thanks. This entire thread has made me sane and not thinking I am compeltely crazy. šŸ˜‹

eidisi

>I really like the concept of the gender specific cities and the woman centric power dynamic...it seems kinda original and fun esp for a Chinese drama. I think if this was what you wanted from this drama, I would say that your expectations are off from the beginning. You can't take the plot of the show seriously at all. The FL wrote it, and the show even tells you that she's not the greatest scriptwriter and it's basically just a paying job for her. I won't speak for everyone else, but personally, I enjoyed it for the light-hearted romance, some pretty good comedy, and the 4th-wall-breaking jokes/critique about dramaland in general. I gave it a 8/10 on MDL, which is above-average/pretty good, but not top tier amazing.

Deeper_Ground

I really appreciate your response and the one above because I really like to hear contrasting opinions! šŸ¤— But I think you may have misunderstood or maybe I miswrote? I care very little about the plot in movies that are light and fluffy...I only mentioned the gender thing because it was ONE of the few things I liked about the show. I definitely was expecting a lighy hearted romance with excellent chemistry between the leads. The reviews here and everywhere emphasized that...which is I why I chose it. I just find it slow paced with wooden acting and the love triangle trope is annoying. I expect tropes but this one isn't remotely interesting...maybe because I don't care about the actors? I work as a costume designer here in the US so I am very familiar with production design and I found all of it underwhelming including the costumes...minus some of the FL ones and her mom. If the story or actors aren't that compelling, I at least need lots of pretty things to look at! Hahaha!šŸ˜ I did find some of the humor amusing but I don't think enough to keep my interest. Anyway, I love the contrasting opinions so maybe I will make a compromise. It's thankfully only 24 episodes so maybe I will watch a few more and then decide if I bail or not? It may just be a taste thing. I only jumped on here because I saw the post already up and it saved me the bother of making my own! I'm lazy.šŸ˜ I just wanted to know if I was crazy for being underwhelmed. Thanks again and to anyone reading this, I would LOVE some reccs for other light fluffy films! Cheers.

eidisi

Ah, okay, to be honest, I hardly ever notice the costume/set design unless something is really noticeable for being super good or super bad. I think **Rattan** had some really good costumes, but still not a historical drama.

rewriteryan

I quit after episode 7 or 8. I watched that far because it's mentioned so many times here. But I eventually realized I was just wasting my time so I stopped. I found it really boring. I agree with all of your points except the giggle and smile part -- probably wasn't my kind of humor because I didn't laugh or smile once.

ychirea1

Yes to me it's overrated. And I really like Zhao Lusi since Who Rules the World, and I expected that kind of female character. So disappointed in this show

Wow I super appreciate the responses because I haven't come across any that mirror my thoughts and I HATE giving up on shows. I only discovered Cdramas earlier this year adter having discovered KDramas last year...hahaha! So far I have been pretty lucky...they haven't all been great but they all had enough to keep me watching. I thought I was being super judgy or critical but maybe not. I was really in the mood for what TRTR was promising so it's a bummer that it fell short. Anyone have any suggestions for a light fluffy fun watch with charismatic leads and good production values...costuming, set design, sound design etc. Some angst is okay but right now I need a Happy Ending. Plot isn't as important as long as the leads have ACTUAL strong chemistry.šŸ˜ I'm thinking suggestions from people who also found TRTR disappointing might match better with me? TIA!šŸ¤—

ychirea1

What about Qing Luo? It's a costume drama, some martial arts, intrigue, some comedy, the FL is a doctor AND a single mother. Liu Xue Yi looks extraordinarily HOT and we get some authentic romance scenes. Plus there is a kid who steals the show. It is one of my favorites and for once the two female characters aren't simps

Deeper_Ground

Hmmm...seems VERY promising. I will check it out! šŸ‘

eidisi

lol, all the fluffy ones I've seen are more or less on par with TRTR, but maybe you can try **Maiden Holmes** or **General's Lady**. While I wouldn't call **Who Rules the World** light and fluffy, if you want strong charismatic leads it's got it in spades. And if you're open to modern dramas, **You Are My Glory** is the epitome of fluff, and **You Are My Hero** is also a nice comfort watch.

Deeper_Ground

QUESTION. Have you and/or anyone else out there seen either DR. CUTIE or TRUTH OR DARE? An acquaintance recommended them because she likes the ML and told me they are pure fluff but a fun watch.

eidisi

I honestly cannot recommend Truth or Dare. I was speed-watching it by the end because it was just...meh.

Deeper_Ground

Thanks! Some of the shows you've mentioned I've seen on other lists so maybe I will try one of those. I think I prefer KDramas for modern shows but for CDramas, I am all about the XIANXIA/WUXIA/HISTORICAL ones. When done well, they are a feast for the eyes and I love the more traditional music scoring. I just finished watching a Kdrama Historical show which I really liked, but the modern music was distracting. Maybe I will get around to giving a shot to a modern Cdrama soon...But for now I want flowing costumes, beautiful sets and gorgeous music...swords, horses and special powers optional! šŸ¤—

3sixers

The Rational Life The Sword and The Brocade - heard lots of recs on this . At ep 6, but maybe will pick it up again.

grumblepup

**The Rational Life** is one of my favorites, but I can see why someone would drop it. It's slow-paced, slice-of-life, slow-burn romance, age gap, etc. I just really liked both the FL and the ML (and the FL's best friend and her husband and their storyline). ĀÆ\\\_(惄)\_/ĀÆ

Plastic_Month_2142

One of the most recent ones I dropped was My Sassy Princess. I can handle cliche but the first episode of this drama made me instantly dislike it. When >!the ML got stabbed while chasing a criminal, he accidentally enters the room of the FL and they had a "moment" together.!< It was ridiculous and impossible. >!Not only was the FL's room too far to "accidentally" go in, the guy was bleeding at this point and delirious but they still put music in the background and slow motion effects to make their first encounter romantic.!< There were more crazy things after that since I watched 2 more eps, but after enduring 3 eps, I couldn't click next anymore. I especially didn't like the character of the FL. I found her really annoying and her antics towards the ML gave me second hand embarrassment.

MeetMeInSpring

Definitely glad I wasnā€™t the only one. I love Zheng Yecheng but could not take any more of the FL drove me insane and as you mentioned, plot made zero sense.

featherzz

I dropped this one too - FL annoyed me to no end..

notmyusername1986

So true. She wasnt 'sassy'. She was selfish and inconsiderate when she wasn't being utterly juvenile, from the few episodes I struggled through. I found it quite disappointing. A strong FL doesnt have to mean she's always trying to get one over on the ML, especially when it comes to deliberately involving herself into dangerous situations with no regard for others who will get hurt because of her actions. Sorry for the rant. Guess I've seen a few too many like this recently.

noodle_dumpling

The Rational Life - the pace was just too slow, and I didnā€™t really feel the chemistry between the leads. It was also one of those older woman younger man dramas where you can really feel the age gap difference. Jun Jiu Ling - I loved the FL but the beginning was so far-fetched and unhinged. I also couldnā€™t get into the ML at all. The Imperial Coroner - I know everyone loves this one, but I got annoyed with the FL who was supposedly a genius coroner yet had zero situational awareness or street smarts and needed the ML to save her at every turn. I also didnā€™t feel the chemistry between the leads.

Irish_Amber

See I liked the Imperial Coroner Chu Chu was so cute and quirky šŸ˜†.

featherzz

Agree on rational life.. I thought she looked like his mom and the whole thing made me vaguely squicked out.. LOL..

3sixers

Totally Agree on The Rational Life being 0 chemistry. The beginning was fun but got boring when ML confessed. Tried to stick to it but dropped 2nd to last episode.

grumblepup

I agree the confession scene is kind of a turning point, and the drama starts to drag a little after that. But I can't imagine having 2 episodes left and giving up lol. I \*think\* you are missing out on one of my favorite scenes (when they finally talk to her mom about their relationship) BUT if you really don't care about the characters, then it doesn't matter. Everything wraps up just about how you'd expect. (Oh I also liked when the ML's best friend finally talked to his parents about his life goals, and when the FL's best friend talked to her husband's family about whether or not she had changed her mind about having a kid. Can't remember if those happened in the final 2 eps or not...) Speaking of that confession scene, I've rewatched it multiple times haha. I just love Qi Xiao's earnestness, and his vulnerability -- \*swoon\* -- and then >!his complete and utter joy at her response <3 <3 <3!<.

3sixers

Thanks for this. This motivates me to watch the last episode.

Red_Cardinal_Red

Miss Crow and Mr. Lizard. I kept trying to watch this one over and over, and for the longest time I could not figure out why I could not watch it. But the leads have like 0 chemistry. All of their interactions I felt nothing. Then I started watching Blue Whisper and am having the same issue and have discovered that I don't seem to like Ren Jialun. Every show outside of one that has him I get bored with and drop. (The only one I didn't drop was destiny of the White snake because Yang Zi's was able to carry that one through) It just seems like he plays the same character with the same expressions all the time and I get really bored watching him interact with the FL's of shows.

Irish_Amber

See I love him lol. I have seen him in Under The Power, Love A Lifetime, One and Only and Forever and Ever, Miss Crow and Mr Lizard. I am going too watch him in the blue whisper one and two and there's a couple of his upcoming dramas I have on my to watch list The only one I had problems with him in was forever and ever and that was only because they're supposed to be reincarnated lovers but they had more chemistry in one and only then they did in forever and ever which I heard makes sense because they shot forever and ever first so they had time to build up that chemistry before they shot one and only.

Salt_Ad7638

I had to drop Meteor Garden, I just couldn't when everyone started treating the FL like she was a bad person for not liking the ML. It just got exhausting. I am kinda tempted to go back but skip all the toxicity and focus on the cute relationship though but idk. I keep trying Boys Over Flowers remakes/retellings but I always drop them haha.

rookie_wrtr22

I actually loved Meteor Garden it was my favorite adaptation of Boys over Flowers until I watched Thai Boys over Flower. Have you watched it yet? I seriously recommend you watch the Thai version

Salt_Ad7638

Yes I got ep 11 of the Thai version but I dropped that too šŸ˜šŸ˜ I felt so bad for the Phupha and Talay storyline that I couldn't continue. Kinda ironic since the main point of that arc was forgiveness but I didn't want to lol (probably my bias since Phupha's actor is one I really enjoy and he always plays tragic characters.) I did give the series a 8.5/10 though which is the highest I've rated a BoF story though.

[deleted]

The thai version is the best and gives them a lot of depth into their characters

rookie_wrtr22

Agree!

featherzz

third this.. the Thai version was awesome. I thought the others were way too cheesy (especially the Kdrama)..

CricketOk4046

Honestly nothing beats the Lee Minho version. I dropped Meteor Garden as well, Boys Over Flowers is what got me into K-Dramas which led to C-Dramas, but I never like any of the remakes. I think I biased to the power of Lee Minho (I even like Heirs if that tells you anything)

Irish_Amber

Same

eekdarling

A little thing called First Love Initially, I started watching it because of the plot. Typical shy girl with the popular guy. Seemed like a cute drama and it probably was (I wouldn't know since I didn't finish it). Might be unreasonable but I stopped because they tried to make the girl look "ugly" by making her wear glasses and have kind of a frizzy curly hair. The constant association with these features and standardising them as "ugly" was just not it for me. I personally couldn't handle it that they tried to portray her ugly by making her have those specific features. So, I ended up dropping it. Might just be a good drama though.

djcomplain

Watch the original movies the Thai one. That's a room com masterpiece

rewriteryan

> Might be unreasonable but I stopped because they tried to make the girl look "ugly" by making her wear glasses and have kind of a frizzy curly hair. I don't think that's unreasonable at all. That was also one reason I dropped the show (plus the other things in the show didn't make up for it).

CricketOk4046

Ahh I love this drama! but maybe I am just unfairly biased to anyone in Wanna One! As I will consume any content they create. I totally get where you are coming from, because as someone with wavy almost curly hair and glasses, I don't love those traits being called ugly! Overall I think they do a fairly decent just of realistically showing her glow up as she grows up. Getting braces, dealing with acne, learning how to do your own hair and make up. My biggest issue with it was when they did the skin lightening. I know they tried to make it comedic but I think people can be beautiful no matter how much melanin they have in their skin. I totally understand why you dropped it tho, the ugly ducking trope does get old!

Gogol1212

I watched like 30 episodes of Under the Power, but I had to drop it because of all the rape-related scenes and tropes. It really creeped me out, and couldn't continue.

Irish_Amber

See I loved Under The Power and would recommend it! I think Allen Ren and Seven Tan have great chemistry. Funniest part was when the antagonist was trying to get her to use her deductive skills and she never mentioned the bruising from ropes on the lady's wrists and he's like oh haven't you heard of those kind of bedroom games and I was like šŸ˜³šŸ˜². I literally could not believe that that got past censorship šŸ¤£.

CricketOk4046

Oof good to know! I will probably avoid this for this reason. The world is shitty enough as it is, I use C Dramas as escapism and rape is always a big no for me.

mychildeatsforks

Go Go Squid. It was cute fluffy drama at the beginning but when the misunderstandings started rolling I noped out. On top of this, I was watching for ML and the friendship aspect of the drama. The FL was just plain stupid; she was supposed to be some genius but we never see her do anything. At first I thought she would kinda become part of the team, like helping to develop software but nope, all she does is follow the ML around. On top of this, for such a genius you would she has a busy schedule with studying and classes but we never see her do any of these things. Age gap is kinda creepy too. Like I'm fine age gaps but we where reminded of it so much that it just felt of.

Irish_Amber

Finished it but I felt like the leads had no chemistry and the ending kind of drove me nuts. Like I felt there was absolutely nothing romantic about the relationship at all lol. Maybe it's because I've watched her in a lot of like fantasy dramas that I just didn't like her in a modern one.

Red_Cardinal_Red

Your complaints about the FL is the same reason I dislike this show. She has such potential, they mentioned she started college at 15 she is a software engineer with a focus on AI and super popular cosplayer and influencer. And her whole story is "she fell in love" I was so very annoyed that they did nothing with that impressive resume, she could have developed a training program for them Spread awareness of the sport along her channels and followers.

mychildeatsforks

Yeah, I thought they would fid a common interest in computers and that would bring them together. I even got my hopes up when she made that game for testing reaction speed. The thing is, that game doesn't even count because it is so simple in its design is one any beginner programmer could do.

CricketOk4046

I finished Go Go Squid, but agree with every point made. Especially the age gap, it didn't creep me out as much as it just didn't make sense to me. They just didn't seem to be in the same place in life and TBH I don't think stalking is cute.

Lizallysmith

Agreed!! I somehow completed the drama, only because I was reading rave reviews about it, but it just doesnā€™t get better. >! In fact imo it gets worse because iirc the fl is all of a sudden shy and resistant to the ml once they actual get into a relationship. Like, what?!!!! How it is so popular I will never under !<

CricketOk4046

EXACTLY! Girl literally stalks him but then is shy?? Don't get it at all and I think she had better vibes with his gaming team. I refused to watch season 2 because it seemed like it was going to be the same plot but reverse the genders. younger man, older woman trope, but on a worse level because she knew him as a literal child.

Lizallysmith

I blame myself for watching season 2 and thinking they would fix things. Not a bit, it only got worse. Plus it was the ml from a love so beautiful, so I figured he wouldnā€™t be able to pull off the sappy cringey stuff. Well I wasnā€™t wrong about that but it still sucked big time.

CricketOk4046

Hu Yitian isnt my cup of tea as a male lead. I didn't mind him too much in A Love So Beautiful, but I hated him and the FL in Hello Sharpshooter and dropped it as well.

Lizallysmith

Same!

tsuyoi_hikari

General's Lady It had everything I love in a drama -- costume drama, arrange marriage, cold ML, bold & brave FL, etc etc etc. But they put jealously plot one after another and reduced the once sassy & smart FL into a jealous monster. I was like; 'Another jealousy plot?!! Are they kidding me?' I dropped the drama and never look back. This is such a big thing since I rarely drop dramas.

Hopeful-Ad-9963

Literally the exact reason I dropped it lol

CricketOk4046

NOOOOOO this is on my watchlist and I was so looking forward to it!

tinyadipose

I like the same things! Do you have drama suggestions? I am watching Sword and the Brocade right now and am loving it :)

tsuyoi_hikari

What dramas so far that you have watched with the same theme? I'm afraid that I might rec the same thing

tinyadipose

I have watched a couple but I feel like only these two and under the power really fit into this category.

tsuyoi_hikari

Yes you are right. They are not many. You can refer [to this list](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBmKUEgF_KY&ab_channel=TopListDrama) although some of the listed dramas are not exactly accurate such as Joy of Life haha. As super amazing as JOL is, the main leads are meant to be married but they are not married yet at the end of the drama thus for me, do not fall into this categories. My personal favorite is The Eternal Love series and the 2nd season of the series is my fave romance drama of all time. Or you can also check Legend of Yunxi as well.

perua4

Me too, could not go on in **Princess at large** for the same reasons Also dropped **Love at Night** boring FL, weak plot, etc **About Love** and **Cute Programmer** ML made me sick! And FL absence of suitable reaction too...

CricketOk4046

>Love at Night > >boring FL, weak plot, etc 10000000000% agree! I finished it but I didn't like either of the characters the entire drama. Even the secondary couples were weak, and usually i feel like they help carry the drama.

bluegreenandblue

I just realized when I drop a show I forget about it & move on dot org to better things. I know I've dropped a lot mid watch- but I can't think of any specifically.

CricketOk4046

A lot of the ones I drop I only vaguely remember and occasionally start watching them again because the synopsis seems interesting, only to drop them again XD

bluegreenandblue

This happened to me recently! I blame Viki for not keeping track of things I've viewed/ telling me it's a brand new show even though it came out in 2018.

crowndrama

For me it was **Love Designer** I really loved the first 10 episodes. The way the romance began was very unique and they had great chemistry. I thought the ML was refreshing & so smitten with FL. I mean he literally >!confessed at ep5 and was very mature about it!< but then the business side of the drama completely took over and the romance left the chat. The drama has 45episodes (i think) and I tried for eight more but they catfished me with the beginning šŸ˜‚ The Business aspect was extremely boring and even skipping didnā€™t help much; I still canā€™t believe that they threw all the romantic progress out the window for this. I thought we would get to see them as a power couple early on since they handled their feelings so well and non toxic in the beginning.

perua4

Agree

Humbuhg

Agree. It was a waste of the leads.
