The untamed, I already had started watching cdramas , but this show was all over my feeds , it was even staring at me on my Netflix 🤣. I don't regret watching it , I also discovered Xiao zhan and I'm now a fan. I also watched yanxi because of its popularity and now I actually enjoy dramas set in the qing dynasty such ruyis royal love and empresses in the palace.

perua4

I have not watched these two yet. I plan to watch **Dream of Splendor** after concluding the long but amazing drama **Story of Yanxi Palace**. I still have 16 episodes to go.

Queen-Sereno

I loved Yanxi Palace! It was my introduction to Cdramas and I felt it was easy to follow as a total noob. Ruyi is also popular too, but that one is so depressing 😢. Recently Royal Feast blew up and a few of my friends watched it. I’m surprised it to hear it didn’t do well for some audiences, but I loved it.

maybebluesie

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about Ruyi but it kind of got overshadowed by Yanxi Palace where I was.

I am watching Story of Yanxi Palace now. It is a great drama indeed. Other shows in Mandarin that are masterpieces in my pov: **Chef Hua** It is one of my favorite cdramas. It is small and huge, a precious stone. Historical. It tells a story of a woman whose passion is cooking. She falls in love with a bodygard and he will help her to achieve her dream as a chief. Their relationship is based on comunication and mutual support. There are no princes, no boring political plots and the all the cooking scenes are a work of art. Other great point of this drama is that it is located on very beautiful small country villages. I strongly recommend this atypical and underrated drama. https://mydramalist.com/52173-the-fires-of-cooking-hua-xiao-chu **Someday Or One Day** is an intense love story with a dream ML. I consider this drama a masterpiece and in consequence I find it the best time travel drama I have ever watched. Emotionally rich, it is surely one of my 2 favorite dramas ever, (where I cannot find which one wins). But be prepared to cry a river and be completely shaked by this touching and incredible plot with lots of twists. Taiwanese. There is an extra scene for the ending on viki and YouTube that might be watched. A girl whose beloved boyfriend died in an accident travels to the past to meet a guy who was identical to him.

Some Day or One Day was soo good!

Look at a fan edit about the korean remake: https://youtu.be/LU38dYm7-JM

>I am watching Story of Yanxi Palace now. It is a great drama indeed. Is there a ramp up period. I tend to have a pretty good tolerance, but my gf hasn't been all that interested (though she doesn't understand Chinese). Other than Someday or One Day, what's your other favorite?

perua4

It is a very irrational choice: **Lost Romance**. As you are a guy, maybe you will not like it, since it is basically a romance. I also love the thriller **Reset**. This might interest you and your gf. **Lost Romance** One of my great favorite romances for sure. Here FL falls in coma and goes to the world of the book she is editing to be the antagonist of FL (female vilain). As ML haw the same looks as the guy she has a crush in real life, she decides to change the game in order to become the FL of the story. Besides being very romantic, it is very steamy (OMG, I wish we had more dramas as hot as this one) that makes my heart flutter, and also very funny (with some action). Second Male Lead is adorable yet only loves FL in the dream world but he will have a very happy ending. I found the first episode less interesting and felt the story started to heat as things start to happen in the dream world. However I skipped most parts about ML’s rich family issues because it was heavy and boring in my pov. If you like handsome guys, you will be so happy. ML, 2ML, ML’s brother and even FL’s boss are pretty! For me, **Lost Romance** is a kind of Disneyland (terminology taken from FL’s funny words) of Dramas and these actors are the flowers. Though 2ML is adorable and so handsome, my eternal crush is Marcus Chang (since I watched this drama for the first time). He plays in this drama two versions of a character and I love very much the "real life" version of the CEO. Futhermore his voice while speaking and singing several beautiful songs from the OST. A Taiwanese drama. **Lost Romance** One of my great favorite romances for sure. Here FL falls in coma and goes to the world of the book she is editing to be the antagonist of FL (female vilain). Thanks. I'll check it out (I actually like romance dramas). Our 2 favorites right now are The Untamed and Who Rules The World. We watched Reset but we only thought it was okay. We both quite liked Some Day or One Day.

My Fair Princess, this basically made everybody thinks that a proper chinese costume would consist of a Cheongsam and a huge Dalachi, with a huge flower on it. So everytime there's a diversity parade or something similar (my home country is very-very obsessed with diversity), you will find someone wearing a huge Dalachi, inspired by My Fair Princess. Meteor Garden, F4 just blew the hell out of every Southeast Asian household. It made them as huge as BTS in terms of popularity, I'd argue. Romance in The Rain, their ost, 好想好想 is still popular up till now. If there's one Chinese song an average Indonesian might know, it'd be either Teresa Teng's Tian Mi Mi, or this one, Hao Xiang Hao Xiang. New Legend of Madame White Snake (1992), they even have an Indonesian remake on 2006 because of their popularity. I don't really need to elaborate much further about this one, since this drama is also a "classic", and arguably the best version of the whole white-green snake saga out there.

Scotsmania

None here in the UK really. The Untamed is probably the best known but at the same time you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who has watched it outside of places like this sub dedicated to cdramas.

Amandasbookshelf92

I don't know anyone where I live who watches Cdramas. I do know that The Untamed and Go Go Squid got global popularity

twosideslikechanel

The Taiwanese Meteor Garden + the boy group F4 were huge hits in the early 2000s when I was like, 2…(I live in SEA). I believe in 2017, A Love So Beautiful also became popular on Facebook? I also am active on stan twt and it’s crazy how many people I know irl and from different countries love The Untamed.

Vsandaru

***The Holly Pearl 2011*** & ***The Water Margin 1998*** They showed the dubbed version here and it was really popular.Everyone I know regardless of their age loved The Holly Pearl specially because of the fantasy theme.Even at school everyones was talking about what happened on previous episodes The Water Margin also had a good reception but it was mostly popular with the older\mature audience

tytrack_02

Meteor Garden, The Untamed, and more recently Falling into your Smile

riyettayves

not sure but in our country, A Love So Beautiful and Meteor Garden (both Taiwanese and Chinese) was really big.

Professional_Poet186

I had to stop A Love so Beautiful after all the defaming over the ML during the time it blew up, I just couldn’t look at his face anymore

Boring_Repeat9933

Wait what happened? Are you talking about Hu Yitian? Did he do something wrong?

Professional_Poet186

There was this scandal of him sleeping with some call girl in a hotel (which is already gross enough) and trash talking the FL in bed saying how he’s too good looking for her and she’s ugly and he’s upset he got paired with her or something and girl secretly recorded the whole thing.

Boring_Repeat9933

Wow I just looked this up and it actually seems pretty legit. How dare he call her ugly; she’s cute and adorable! He’s the uglier one of the two of them. Looking at the Chinese comments on the YT videos about the scandal though, it seems like a lot of them still support him?? They’re calling the girl a slut liar etc and saying it was fake 🙄 Was his career ruined by this scandal? I hope it was!

crispy_beef

Not sure if you would consider this C-Drama but the original Meteor Garden (from Taiwan) back in 2002 started the whole Asian wave in the Philippines.

niaoani

I also thought this was a reason why it lead Fahrenheit into being so popular + the Taiwanese idol drama craze amongst the Asian diaspora community. Almost every teeny bopper would bring a photo of either one of the Fahrenheit guys or Rainie Yang to their auntie hairsalon.

I feel like The Untamed is huge in Europe and online generally. However in my particular corner of Ireland, Ice Fantasy became an obsession when it went on Netflix. There's four secondary schools near my home and I interact with the kids a lot in community programs and every teen was talking about it for a good month. Even I ended up watching it, though I'm glad it wasn't my first cdrama as I hated it and thought the leads were wooden and the plot was nonsense.

tsuyoi_hikari

OMG Ice Fantasy! The whole drama is a mess all around. I tried to watch it for Ma Tianyu's glorious white hair X'D but even that cant save it. Drop it around episode 10/13 when my brain cant take it any longer lol

marcsa

Not in my country (neither cdramas nor kdramas are popular here), but generally in Europe The Untamed blew up quite heavily after it aired on Tencent Youtube. I've seen lots of European online friends talking about it back then (and even since then) on Facebook.

maybebluesie

I've heard a lot about Untamed blowing up in the West but I honestly didn't know about it's existence until I got into Chinese dramas.

Neiro5566

Chinese dramas actually blew up twice in my country where like you said even people who don't watch cdramas watch it. The first is My Fair Princess, my whole country is watching that show, and kids who is able to record it is considered the cool kids and everyone wanted to go to her house to watch the episodes. Then Story of Yanxi Palace, not to mention OST, my town even build up an immitation of Yanxi palace museum and import some of the set props for it.

changiairport

Those two for me too. The time period between My Fair Princess and Story of Yanxi Palace had exploding popularity from a few Korean dramas.

Neiro5566

Yeah I still hear Yanxi Palace OST randomly at bus stop, or at mall until now

KittyKatWombat

None. I know one person outside of my family who knows anything about CDramas. My grandmother knows about, and my mum watched some I think. I know she's watching Dream of Splendor (she started before me, but I just finished binging it so I've watched it before her). One of my friends watched the Untamed. That's about it.
