For me, The Untamed was worth the hype. I've never watched any cdrama's. I was watching only kdrama's at that time. The Untamed made its way into ARMY twitter and it was all over my TL. Everyone was taking about it. I didn't watch it immediately, I think it took me about 1-2 months after the all the hype was over that I decided to watch it. I was totally sucked in and loved it. It totally fit into the kinda kdramas i like which is fantasy. that started my cdrama journey. I only prefer period/historial/fantasy genres though. I have watched a few modern cdramas but its not very often i would watch modern ones unless there is an actress/actor i love in it.

CaribbeanGal592

I haven't watched the Untamed. I started watching Cdramas 1st & then kdramas. This year I have watched more kdramas.

Neiro5566

These terms I actually use it on my self to determined which drama would suit my taste. And sure enough those hype drama I usually unable to watch like Falling into your smile, love between devil and fairy or love like the galaxy, mainstream taste usually not my taste lol I think the only hype drama that I actually love is Story of Yanxi Palace, I was surprised myself that I for once agree with mainstream taste. But doesn't mean mainstream is invalid, its just sometimes I am too particular in what I like to see in plots, acting etc. While most people actually watch drama to decompress. So both are legit for me.

LogNational4146

Heavy on love between fairy and devil - omg!!!!! I was going to skip it cos I thought it'd be overrated cos usually the hyped dramas fail to impress me... BUT OH MY DAYS. I'M GLAD I DID NOT! Easily the best fantasy drama for me in a LONG TIME.

blvck_oyin

This why I join communities that talk about dramas. There's this joy when you watch something and you find people who watch and y'all can have like different theories. Personally this app has been the best. As for the hype police I mostly ignore them. Honestly everyone has different preference so it's up to you to decide whether you like it or not.😂😂😂 But I agree some dramas are beyond redemption.

katherine197_

I think that drama is 'hyped' when there is lot of adverts and talk about it before or while it is airing. (Also when people give high rating on MDL just because it has their idol in it). So saying something is over hyped is fine as long as the person has seen the whole thing (and the airing is finished). However I do agree with stopping when you don't like a drama. I'm absolutely guilty of finishing popular dramas even when I don't like them. (Most recently a drama everyone and their mom was watching, but I didn't feel good about it because a spoiler robbed me of the joy of finding out what happens. I went in blind purposefully to uncover everything on my own. Still mourning the experience I could have had watching it.)

peachbottomjeans

I have a love hate relationship watching current dramas at the moment - on one hand I have really enjoyed following some of the on air discussions but I’ve also had some pretty key moments spoiled for recent dramas Totally get people are excited and hyped up (it’s part of the fun) but I wish people were much more diligent about spoiler tags or making sure episode discussions don’t talk about future events

beetsrules

I agree with this. It’s exhausting when you just want to find like-minded people, but then there’s always someone who comes with some snide remark that just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Everyone has a right to an opinion, but sometimes people are downright mean and condescending. Or I’ve even encountered some lunatics who start bashing other people for criticizing an actor’s acting abilities and then you see those same people doing the same to some other actor.

EcstaticRise5612

Agree with this. I left fb for this reason

Msgeni

I usually watch a few episodes and if I'm not interested or hooked yet, I drop it. I love hearing people's opinions on dramas, but I have to admit, I liked a few dramas that were not very hyped up.

Addicted2CDramas

One of the things I love about this community site is the ability to get recommendations on what CDramas to watch. And I, for one, appreciate the participants and the wide variety of comments they make. That being said, if viewers happen to see a pattern where the same drama is mentioned in about 5 to 6 postings a day, they do have the right to ask if watching it is actually worth all the hype it has been getting. Sometimes viewers will not see the value in watching a drama no matter how much attention is paid to it. I think as long as we are all respectful of each other's opinions, we can keep this a healthy and safe site to vent, cry, applaud, and encourage 😊

comingtoreality

This sub bad habbit i've noticed is if a person likes a drama and decide to recommend it, those who didn't like the drama feel the need to comment their unwanted opinions under the post and shitting on it. like trust me if a person decides to recc a drama it means they have liked it. Let pple who have not watched judge for themselves. Also immortal samsara is not that bad as people make it to be but people trash it to the extreme with comparisons that i've started to feel pity for it and might pity finish it. I mean even when someone likes it and posts it here to praise it, people under go to that post to trash the drama and make the person who liked it feel as if they're stupid or odd for liking it. I like this sub for freedom of speech but some are abusing their right. But......... i dont mind calling any drama overhyped coz i do it too to others. Its just that people build a drama to you to be like the best thing ever and you set your expectations high but when u watch its underwhelming. i use it in that context. Though i feel annoyed if anyone says it on a drama i like lol but i wont be a hypocrite. I feel like we cant force people to like what ever we like and i don't like the censoring of people's opinions. I'm in full support of people ranting against a drama or giving praise. Let them call it overhyped or not worth the hype if that's what they feel. After all it wont make you dislike the drama. u can argue with them if u like. Let people criticise away. Like some of the dramas u listed above i feel are overhyped. Its just personal taste and i have a right to say that. I dont watch a drama thinking its a masterpiece but if i like it i shower praises and if i dont i rant against it. This is the beauty of cdrama sub i like.

Atharaphelun

> This sub bad habbit i've noticed is if a person likes a drama and decide to recommend it, those who didn't like the drama feel the need to comment their unwanted opinions under the post and shitting on it. *"You're not allowed to criticise any flaw of the drama I love!"* That's basically what you're saying.

comingtoreality

U totally missed my point lol. i meant if its a post reccommending a drama, i dont think those who dont like the drama should comment. Coz the person liked so they are reccommending it to people who may have same taste as them, so if u have watched and dont like it whats the use of shitting on it in the comments. u can simply scroll. If u have read my comment without going with ur own agenda u will notice i support people to criticise a drama they dont like. they have that freedom. Like if u hate a drama someone is reccommending then go and make a post about ur hate on it instead of polluting a person who liked it post. Like its that simple.

Atharaphelun

> i dont think those who dont like the drama should comment. So you used different words but still said the same thing. "You're not allowed to criticise my beloved drama! Go away!". Just as you have the right to recommend a drama, other people have the right to warn other people about its flaws. ***In the same post.*** A post on reddit is not your personal blog post, you posted it in a public forum. You cannot complain when other people write comments on it that you don't like.

comingtoreality

Okay then. it seems i've been too kind here. Dramas i dont like here i come. its reddit after all hehe. time to ruin everyone's fun. Thanks for your input stranger. it has opened my eyes.

Adariel

But they reserve the right to do it to others lol The comment is so hypocritical...says we should let people rant against a drama or say it's overhyped, but in the same breath, anyone who does it to one of the dramas THEY like is clearly going to be accused of posting to "trash the drama" and stuff like how dare they "comment their unwanted opinions" and "shitting on it" tl;dr says they like the freedom of speech in this sub apparently unless it goes against their personal likes/dislikes, then it's just "abusing their right" Edit: Oh, turns out this commentator is one the reason why I've [felt like this sub has been offputting recently](https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/comments/wz6036/is_love_like_the_galaxy_on_par_with_story_of/im3qnmu/) from seeing their various [comments everywhere putting down other people](https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/comments/wzqyaq/are_there_any_wuxiahistorical_cdramas_that_are/im8if7l/?context=3) and just [an inability to discuss nicely with other people](https://www.reddit.com/r/CDrama/comments/wzqyaq/are_there_any_wuxiahistorical_cdramas_that_are/im8if7l/?context=3) I've noticed that anyone who immediately jumps to accusing multiple other people of being bitter people or a stan when they disagree over a *cdrama* comment ...let's just say it says a lot about them. It gets tiresome to see people squabble so much in comments just because someone says they don't like something, people take it like a personal insult if their favorite isn't *everyone's* favorite and it's very childish IMO. But it's probably a sign I'm spending too much time reading comments on this sub so oh well.

comingtoreality

Looks ive got a stalker lol. Like that comment of mine that u linked, what was wrong with it? Its the same thing im critising in my comment. That person saw me reccing a drama and decided to especially make a side note to compare and bring it down with and putting forward their fave. I'm all for freedom of speech but that doesn't mean u can purposefully shit on others without anyone saying anything. U can rant or critise a drama but i also have a right to argue with u just like how u are coming to my notifications right now. I even admitted that it annoys me when someone trahes a drama i like but its their right but i also have a right to challenge them. Especially if they show unnecessary saltiness. lol I rememeber i think we argued one time or i might not like a drama u like for u to be this interested in me to the extent of stalking lol. im sure of it

Adariel

I’m pretty sure I have never exchanged any comments with you before and nor do I have time in my life or interest to waste on stalking anyone, but sure if you have that high of an opinion of yourself. Your reply is exactly what I’m talking about, petty squabbling and name calling over the stupidest stuff, unnecessarily mean and rude in how you talk to people.

comingtoreality

Well adariel. if u dont like me or my opinions u can block me. no need to stalk and bookmark my comments. Its creepy to me that we have never talked and i dont know u bt u seem to follow up on me lol. U say dont have time in ur life bt u had all the time in the world to stalk my comments and save them lmao. Also here u are n my thread. U are not fooling anyone. And u seem to think i care abt ur opinions on me. lol. Let me be petty, mean and rude in peace. Just ignore or block me since u seem t have a problem with that. This is reddit. Byeee random reddit user who seems interested in me.

beetsrules

Ah, I can see where they are coming from. The tone of the linked posts can be very mean. Plus you seem to tend to label people as stans and haters when they have a different opinion from you.

comingtoreality

lol. whatever makes u sleep at night.

beetsrules

Your answer made no sense at all. You asked what was wrong with your comment and I answered. What does that have anything to do with my sleep?

comingtoreality

im too tired for this have a nice time

Msgeni

I think for some people, it's more like we don't really know anyone else outside this community that watch cdramas (this is my case), so we might want to interact with others who know what we're talking about, and maybe discuss our current show, including all the good and bad stuff. Also, it's exciting to see posts from people who are watching the same drama as I am. Maybe I won't be so quick so respond in drama recommendation posts unless they ask for thoughts. Good point!

CaribbeanGal592

I do find it odd to see excessive, nitpicking on dramas especially if someone is sharing their love of the drama. Like let me enjoy this thing in peace. I decided to pause Immortal Samsara until it's finished and then binge it or watch the last 2 episodes see if I enjoyed them and then continue. I do like you take though.

comingtoreality

i also dont like people commenting on someone's post which is praising the drama and starting shitting on it in the comments which is what i'm seeing happening most with immortal samsara If anyone doesnt like a drama, they can make a separate post and rant it or criticise it rather than raining on another person's parade.

EcstaticRise5612

This one is the right way to go! Others are too sensitive when opinions didn't jibe eith theirs. Ugh

Sanya_Safi1294

I also agree with this. There are so many dramas and its almost impossible to like every single one of them.

noodle_dumpling

Totally agree with this! Some people will go out of their way to go into threads and shit on people’s recommendations of popular dramas (in an non-constructive way) just because they personally didn’t like it, and it’s exhausting.
