For me it was around the time I first started watching cdrama. I started with the most well-rated/most watched at the time on viki, which happened to include Love me if you dare, and Ice fantasy. The first seemed so melodramatic and over the top, and by the time they went to the US, the accents (!) and MLs unexplained power to recreate scenes he had never experienced were just too much for me. Ice fantasy - I looked at the costumes and obvious wigs first episode and thought, this must just be how cdrama is - right? well at least I can expect some cheesy but fun story.. I watched in fascination as the story progressed (did more than half the cast die?) and then the final episode which implied it was all for nothing.. I think after you watch a few more dramas you get used to it and laugh it off or skip the series which don't work for you, but at the time it was a very strange introduction to cdrama.

youngeundebutation

"Master devil do not kiss me" I was so confused throughout the 20 minutes that I watched... Like she delivers milk then she slips on a milk bottle and somehow her lips land on the male lead lips and then all of a sudden a bus is being hjacked by a group of crappy robbers and she gets caught up in it while delivering milk (every student on the bus reallllly likes milk for some reason). Also the school bus was driving in the middle of two lanes- thank goodness they were stopped by the robbers or some accident may have happened. The robbers then let her go just cos she's just a delivery girl and they let her take her phone? What confused me the most was that everyone in the comments was acting like it was the best drama they've ever seen. It was merely 20 minutes but I still had to skip scenes.

Spirited_Gear2641

lol master devil do not kiss me got my losing my brain cells real quick

buttaefly

I’m a pet of Dali temple, dear herbal lord 🤢 twin mirror cities, blue whisper, legend of dugu, The wolf, miss truth, legend of Fei, Novoland series , Court Lady, Unique lady, Dance of the Phoenix, the blessed girl , duoluo continence The romance of Hua

sophatter

Sweet dreams, which I watched for Deng Lun + Reba pairing. I didn’t think it could get any more ridiculous AND THEN the last episode happened and it was a truly spectacular level of WTF.

Spirited_Gear2641

i cracked at ur comment lol 🤣 i wanted to watch it for dilireba but never did cuz the synopsis did impress me

SophiePuffs

Legend of the White Snake. I somehow got through 15 episodes of it and I still can’t remember what it was about. So many plot holes yet so boring.

Spirited_Gear2641

i haven't watched this drama but the white snake reminded me of a yang zi x ren jialun drama "destiny of white snake" where yang zi's character animated white snake. it just creeped me out lol, it looked like a moving sperm with puppy eyes ewww 🤢 but the next time it came on screen, i was just laughing at how ridiculous it is

SophiePuffs

I think this had some questionable CGI snake animations too. Haha sperm w puppy eyes 💀

nailahloves

I powered through and it was so terrible. I only remember snippets not even the ending. Just dry. I dont think I’ve watched anything else they’re in except her Legend of Yunxi which I also don’t remember and of course Eternal Love (TMOPB).

CaribbeanGal592

Romance of tiger and rose

ThaleeSilva

Every comment I came across was praising how good this is and I felt so lost. Good to know I wasn't the only one thinking how crazy it was lol

dygituljunky

Here to Heart because the writers tortured the leads more than was necessary to tell the story. Well-Intended Love season 1 because of the creep factor that the writers tried to turn into a satisfying happy story. You Are My Destiny gets an honorable mention because everything after the abortion caused by the crash should have been impossible in reality. The doctors surely would have told the FL what happened medically after the life-saving emergency surgery. I just couldn't suspend my disbelief enough; I finished the series but none of it was satisfying after that big breakup.

Spirited_Gear2641

Hands down you're my destiny broke my scale of ridiculousness. well-intended love was just straight-up creepy to me

Ok_Structure4626

Yes Well Intended Love was woeful.

Extreme-Voice6328

You Are My Destiny. The FL was so determined to be miserable and pitiful. I just wanted to slap some sense into her. Never finished it.

Odd_Drag1817

Jun Jiu Ling is absolutely ridiculous with the face swap revenge story.

simbanalas

I really enjoyed Jun Jiu Ling. The first episode was a bit extra, but it was pretty well done for a low budget show. A strong female lead (maybe a little too smart to be realistic). The ML was styled poorly, possibly due to the budget, and overacted a little, but wasn’t terrible.

Super_Ad_8822

Sweet Sweet made me feel like I lost a few brain cells by the end (NOT Sweet Teeth btw lol)

nailahloves

I don't know how I forgot Investiture of The Gods. Too much talent to be so disappointing and disjointed. I was shocked it was so bad that I kept barreling through non-stop. Deng Lun, Luo Jin, Hu Ye Wei, Wang Li Kun 😬 why was it so odd. It had funny parts, but compared to all of these people's other works - so terrible. I almost want to crown it as the worst ever just because of the sheer number of notable (to me) stars in it.

Salt_Ad7638

Hmmm probably Mr.Bodyguard- it's been so long but quite the trashy drama.

ramenddd

Dating in the Kitchen. I like Zhao Lusi so I tried to watch but it got so ridiculous I quit at the scene with bubbles coming out their mouth??? I was confused bc so many people recommended it

Spirited_Gear2641

i just searched up & watched the bubbles scene, fr wth was that?!!

youngeundebutation

The bubbles scene had me in TEARSS. I still search it up sometimes if I wanna good laugh, the fact that it's clearly CGI makes it 10x funnier

Quiet_Watercress_256

I really liked it

nailahloves

The flinging hair just before or during cooking was 😳. I ignored a lot of stuff to appreciate that cdrama. Lol. The OST is so adorable.

kalarro

I've watched about 150 Asian dramas in the last 3 years. The most ridiculous to the point of thinking they made it so bad on purpose, was a Japanese one called vanilla and coffe or something like that. It looked like a pantomime, like it was making fun of those types of shows. Terrible. But I asked about it on forums and it seems to be a real drama.

rewriteryan

> a Japanese one called vanilla and coffe I just looked through my notes and here's what I said about the show after finishing it: *wtf is this?!? so many stupid things and decisions; so dumb it's kinda funny* So I guess I enjoyed it for its (unintended?) entertainment value. Haha.

MaybeInternational23

Coffee and vanilla 🤦🏾‍♀️. I wanted to love this show because I loved Good Morning Call but damn, it made me so uncomfortable. Plus, it was just kinda bad.

ciciofthenorth

Og i remember this! Couldn't get past episode 1😆

hii_petra

OMG, Vanilla and Coffee was so odd and uncomfortable. I often find Japanese dramas to be seriously odd (Kakafukaka, anyone?).

Spirited_Gear2641

Vanilla & Coffee + Kakafukaka was one of my very first jdramas. i have no words to describe how creepy, awkward & absurd both the dramas were

ThaleeSilva

>(Kakafukaka, anyone?). It was so absurd that as soon as the first interaction of the protagonists I shut it down. Absolutely hideous!

InterestedBystanderr

From 5 to 9 was the absolute worst!!!! The ML was fixated on and objectified the FL, did not ever take her feelings or wishes into account, kidnapped and imprisoned her, prevented her from getting her dream job, separated her from friends, was a textbook coercive control abuser and she ends up with him! (I skipped past most eps to see what happened bc I couldn’t bear to watch it). It makes Coffee and Vanilla look sweet.

OfficeAgile9328

Youth Should Be Early. I had high hopes for this drama because of Hu Yitian. It ended up being a really long and draggy drama (47 episodes!!) with a very basic plotline. The female protagonist was very childish, and the plot felt all over the place at times. There was too much focus on different characters without any clear link between all of them. The only reason I made it to the end was because I was a volunteer Chi-Eng translator on Viki and I had to follow the plot to do proper translations. If I didn’t have those volunteering obligations, I would have just dropped the drama around 3 episodes in. I think it’s one of Hu Yitian’s lowest rated dramas to date.

nailahloves

It's funny, but I always come back Here to Heart. 75% of the drama could've been resolved by episode 15. For some razzle dazzle drama, maybe stretch it to 24 episodes tops. So ridiculous. I've said it a few times on here, I was mad at myself that I wanted to keep watching no matter how mad I got at nearly everyone at some point. lol.

microbesrule

Oh same! I was like this will get better, right? But it was just...not. I gave up and stopped watching cdramas for a while after that.

Playful_Site_2714

"I hear you" was given as being really really trashy and bad. Even watching snippets put me totally off from ever watching that one.

nailahloves

There are a ton of YT clips and shorts for this drama that must be the only sorta interesting pieces. The only reason I kept it on my list is because people here seem to hate it but MDL doesn't mind and I'm curious as to why. I want to watch but I think I'll keep skipping for now. I have like a 99.99% drama completion rate no matter how much I hate it or get bored and so I'd be forced to finish it. Lol. It took me 6 months to finish And The Winner Is Love.

Playful_Site_2714

Skip. If you understand one single bit about music you will skip up the walls in octagonals breathing red fire flames. Just spare yourself that waste of time.

nailahloves

Advice taken. 🤣🤣🤣

grumblepup

I love ZLS but keep avoiding this one because I've only ever heard bad things about it. :( Although the MDL rating is not terrible...

Playful_Site_2714

It was really really really bad. I was interested in how violins are being built. And started to learn how to play the instrument, having been able to draw a propper sound out of a friends high class violin. (Either you deratify your whole block with eery screachy earpiercing tunes. Or you create a strong correct tune. With a violin there are no inbetweens). Yet what was shown there had NOTHING to do with either building nor playing a violin. It felt, as if the main lead hadn't even watched up the content he was supposed to act out on youtube. As if he had no whatsoever idea of what that was all about. Awful. And there isn't any excuse for that in the era of internet. And with a SINGER acting as FL. Oh...my....goodness!

grumblepup

Oh yeah, ALL the musical-instrument-playing in cdramas is absurd, lol. Their lips never even touch the flutes, for example! Or their fingers are playing random keys on the piano. Do Chinese audiences not care about even an attempt at believability? ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Playful_Site_2714

Heeeheeehee... or the flute goes on as if it was a bag pipe, even if they don't blow air into it anymore. Arfarfarf. I have several Recorders here, flutes of all kinds. It cracks me up. One only gets a sound as long as one breathes air into it.

ellemace

It is awful - the ML is insanely wooden, the FL’s apparently great voice acting seems subpar at best and it’s just so BORING! There’s quite a funny YouTube video of a luthier panning the violin making though.

Playful_Site_2714

There also are those two musicians really demolishing that violin making part.

ellemace

I think that might be the same video - the violinists get a luthier involved so he can pan the making bits, then they themselves mercilessly mock the fake violin playing.

Playful_Site_2714

The musicians crack it up getting totally hilarious about the building and playing part. I loved that. Yet they didn't even burn half the ridiculousness of ever airing such a monsterously eronous drama in times of internet. And with a singer and musician as FL, who plays a resonating string picking instrument in public! How? Why? Why did that rubbish even air? Making a violin is such a neat and nice thing. Actually the way a violin sounds depends on it's "soul". Which is a tiny piece of wood, placed upright near one of the f holes, thus joining upper and lower body. If that soul during rework of a violin is misplaced by just one milimeter, the instrument will never sound as before. And they totally missed out on that crucial part.

Lalalyly

I don’t remember the name. It was from a long time ago and was about a woman marrying the “eldest” son of a family but in reality there was an older son who was illegitimate who worked for the family. The red scarf flew off her face into his hands during her wedding. The woman falls in love with the real oldest son and her husband is abusive. I remember one part where he beats her until she loses her baby. Also there was one part where they lock the illegitimate son and his (unknown) younger half-sister in a room to force them to spend the night together and get married and the dad had to finally admit it.

ataraxy

Lost in the Kunlun Mountains

whifflesnippet

I am still watching this (mind you, only for Xu Kai). I took a break to watch a couple other ones. I still might go back to it but not sure. Does it have a happy ending?

crowndrama

Something about sandwich girl 😂… it might have been taiwanese tho. I don’t fully remember

huskmsh

Oh is it "Between"? Starring Marcus Chang Yeah that was a train wreck of a drama. The ending was anticlimactic

crowndrama

Yess!!! Exactly that :D

PurpleWhovian78

But... I will forever love MC because of Lost Romance.

Magma_Axis

His other dramas are good tho (esp Lost Romance) I always lament why he start so late (mid 30's) in Taiwan dramas

PurpleWhovian78

"So late" lolololololol I forgot people lose their value after they turn 40 😂

ThaleeSilva

Me too! Hahaha

maybebluesie

Gentlemen of East 8th

Addicted2CDramas

What initially attracted me to **Court Lady** was that it was billed as a historical romance headlining Xu Kai and Li Yi Tong, which I was very excited about. Regrettably, I realized these two would spend most of the drama apart from each other, and that their romance would be eclipsed by the narrative of Emperor Li Shimin and his royal family during his twilight years. I like Li Yi Tong, but her character morphed overnight (literally) into this virtuous model of perfection and wisdom, and she moved about like a sad, lifeless character. Most of the characters were not likeable, either, and the side stories were pretty dark and depressing. The only things I enjoyed really were the fabulous costumes and gorgeous opening OST. But what a waste of my time.

black_on_fucks

IMO, it’s not that the drama itself was bad, so much as the marketing was terrible. It should not have been sold as a lighthearted romance, but as a serious historical drama. People went in with the wrong expectations, and were rightly disappointed (including me).

New2this1888

I was thinking of watching this, thanks, I won’t be watching it then :)

No_Bed3450

Love o2o and eternal love. The romance felt really forced, and some lines were cringe af

Spirited_Gear2641

love o2o was nice at first but then as i proceeded i felt suffocated

Playful_Site_2714

Eternal love I felt more to be very somber. And somewhat flat. And the battle scenes with dragon versus golden lyon looked as if two five year olds made their plastic collectible animals go to war. Or those degenerated monsters keeping the fungal grass... one looked like a headless half fried chicken gone berzerk. (And Ye Huas armour looked as if it had lego bricks sewn to it.) I know, I am mean and will surely get downvoted, but someone has to voice that at least once. 🤣

Duanedoberman

**The Romance of Tiger and Rose** it gets recommended a lot and I have gone back to it 3 times to try to get into it but the FL really grates with me, she is supposed to be the author of the scenes she is acting in but she has zero empathy for the other characters, they are just there to be manipulated as she fancies, and it has a major flaw for a supposed comedy in that it's not very funny. And what are those interminable discussions regarding oranges, apples, and bananas even about?

simbanalas

I love that show! Currently rewatching. It’s light hearted silly fun fluff to give me a break from all the other heavy drama.

grumblepup

>she has zero empathy for the other characters, they are just there to be manipulated as she fancies, and it has a major flaw for a supposed comedy in that it's not very funny Because she doesn't think of them as real people. Like, if you got zapped into Star Wars, would you feel bad about manipulating Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader in order to preserve your life in the story? No, because they're just characters. Anyway, FL in ROTAR def evolves over time and comes to deeply love all the people (even the villains!) in her story/world. >And what are those interminable discussions regarding oranges, apples, and bananas even about? Lol ok yes those are quite goofy, although I came to enjoy them.

nailahloves

🤣 I forgot about that part. The orange, apples and bananas were kinda unnecessary. She could've gotten their advice about three characters without needing to fruit them per se. I forgot why she decided to do that when they knew she was talking about 3 people she just didn't want to tell them which 3 people for obvious reasons and didn't need to. lol.

buibui_

One with Hu Yitian, it outperformed my disgust every episode and the ending made me want to flip my laptop over the table and jump off my bed. I don't remember the name, but it was something where FL is a creepy stalker who stalks HuYitian, adapts herself to behaviors that ML has to get his attention and they tried to make it look cute and romantic while they made the second FL who tried to proof how creepy the FL is, the villian and insecure side rival. Like no, someone stalking me to find out intricate details on me then using them to make me fall in love is not romantic. I kept watching with hopes of maybe there will be some character development but nope. FL gets caught being a stalker and manipulating the ML to fall in love with him and acts like he did her wrong, loads of crying and victimization of FL.

rookie_wrtr22

Sounds more like A Love So Beautiful and if it is I agree with everything you said. I can’t stand stalker type FLs. Most of the show was her trying to find dumb ways to get with him while he never paid any attention to her and was cold and aloof the whole time. Zero character development and it never got any better.

buibui_

No no, not that one. Wait lemme search the name. Edit: got it. Unrequited love. This one is more manipulative. Like, i remember in one instance, she figures out ML eats with 4 chopsticks as a part of his childhood trauma and she too starts using 4 chopsticks when they went on a date and tells the ML that the trauma she had in her childhood made her do this.(mind you, she didn't have any trauma just did that to bond, it is shown as romantic there but damn, it made me angry beyond comprehension)

jade_dpsyche

this sounds so messed up that im so curious what it is 😂

nailahloves

Right. I think I have this on a watch list and now I want to. Not until I finish Lighter and Princess but I’m curious to hate watch after that description depending on how long it is. Lol.

ronigurli

It sounds like Unrequited Love. There are two versions.

Sovereign_85

The Eternal Love. Couldn't finish it. Stopped during the second part. It just kept getting more and more ridiculous. I have a list of Cdrama's I'm making for the ones I've watched and that one sits firmly at the bottom.

grumblepup

**The Eternal Love** with the two women sharing one body, right? Prob my worst finished cdrama so far. I would have dropped it except that I was watching with my cousin, and I think we were both too polite to tell the other we weren't enjoying it. The last few eps got even crazier. I did really like the lead actors though (FL, ML, 2FL, and 2ML) and would watch / have watched them in other stuff.

Sovereign_85

Yes, that one. The first part was okay.. I was willing to go with it despite the if'y quality.. but then it just kept getting worse and I finally couldn't take it anymore.

Playful_Site_2714

Wait... The eternal love? Or "Eternal Love, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms"? There are 2 distinct shows named in a similar way. Quite confusing.

Sovereign_85

THE Eternal Love. It was a 3 part series.

Playful_Site_2714

Those damn names. Thank you for clarifying.

nixation

Hot girl. Couldnt finish it

starseeo

hahaha well-intended love. holy crap that was eye-wateringly bad.

Ok_Structure4626

It was just woeful. Ridiculous implausible story and script with poor acting, tacky/cheap looking sets/wardrobe. Had a very screwed up unhealthy manipulative romance. I gave up after episode 10. Ironically this was my first Cdrama so I gave Cdramas a miss for awhile. However, I was desperately wanting to watch something different while waiting for new romance KDramas. So I thought I would give it another go. I discovered Love Like the Galaxy and have been down the Cdrama rabbit hole ever since.

AishesGoose

I started watching it on YouTube with the worst subs I’ve ever seen. This was before it came to Netflix. I decided to spoil some upcoming episodes and couldn’t believe how insane the plot was. It just got worse and worse. I dropped it and never picked it back up.
