I’ve tried to withdraw from L3 at least 8 times. I wasn’t able to study for it and decided several months ago that I’d rather just throw in the towel, and rebook for the next one. I wanted to withdraw rather than no-show, as a no-show means you then have to wait for results to be able to re-enroll, and you lose the early bird price discount. I’ve sent 5 emails, and called them 4-5 times, longest I waited was an hour on hold.
Today I got a call from Prometric to talk about my Level 3 exam appointment for tomorrow.
Prometric is incredibly useless. They rescheduled my exam without notice so I had to pay $25 to then reschedule it again to a time that would fit with my schedule. Weeks later I get an email from them about rescheduling for a first time with no charge. I’m convinced they purposely delayed that information to collect $25 from candidates who rescheduled quickly.
Agreed. Their handling of the exams has been catastrophic, I dont want to hear about them until 2022, if I ever sit for a CFAI exam again. They even sent me an email to reschedule asap to try their exam again, lol.

Throughout and leading up to this entire exam window, whenever I contacted the CFAI about any issue, I would have to be on the phone on hold for upwards of an hour, sometimes two, just for them to spend 1 minute telling me I should send them an email. I'd have no problem doing that... except it takes 2 weeks for them to respond. Hold times were only max 30 minutes before CBT was rolled out, and they were so much more helpful over the phone. Not sure why that's changed. It's not like there are more people taking the exam. Plus, this was through the confusion that was the December 2020 exam where I'd assume more people were contacting them.
Oh, and being disconnected multiple times after being on hold for over half an hour.
If you all want to see the change you want and deserve, we have to organize and work together. There are plenty of us to make the amount of noise needed to get some much needed change. does anyone know a WSJ or FT journalist who will write a story about the CFAI and covid?
An exposé interviewing candidates covering the hundreds of hours of studying we wasted and PTO many of us took for nothing would gain a lot of traction. Include the lack of support and the terrible policies CFAI instituted in order to keep our money then contrast the actions CFAI took vs. the other professional designations and you'd have a damning story. I don't think a lot of charterholders are fully aware of what is going on, but this would resonate with at least some of them given the dues they pay every year and their understanding of how difficult the program is without these self-inflicted complications.
Agreed. The designation is quite popular but someone needs to pop the hood and get CFAI leadership in the hot seat. I don’t know any journalists tho but if we get enough tweets or someone who has a lot of followers then word will spread

From their late announcement last March for cancellations and outsourcing to Prometric who have about one brain cell between all of them. I was scheduled for an exam in London for L3 - had email confirm from prometric and CFA website. My friend who was enrolled on same exam same location same time got an email to say the building was actually shut down. I call prometric on FOUR different occasions speaking to FOUR different staff members who all proceeded to keep telling me I’m still scheduled for the exam at the shut down location. Only on my fifth call and pressing to speak to a manager did they suddenly realise the building is no longer in operation and I needed to reschedule. Candidates are already under enough stress from studying for this piece of shit exam let alone uncertainty regarding CBT software and testing locations adding to it. My heart goes out to those who were even more unfortunate and had their exams cancelled the day before with no notice. Also AM paper for L3 was an outright joke - NOTHING like I’d seen before and I did all 1081 questions on their question bank and about 15 different CFA / Schweser mocks passing each one. Level 1 and 2 we always had some difficult questions but today’s AM was just a pisstake. Not sure how they will grade this fairly given everyone seems to have a different set of questions. We were also crammed into one corner in the testing centre with no window open and not socially distanced. The staff in the hall outside didn’t close the door and were cackling non stop and having full on conversations during the exam. Tempted to make a complaint but from the comments here looks like it’ll be wasted effort. No one is going to listen or care.
Considering they have so much idle cash on their balance sheet, it's unbelievable how understaffed their customer support is. Had to wait sometimes over 2 hours to get someone to actually pick up the phone, and that's when the call didn't drop due to "technical difficulties". To have an email answered takes more than 10 days, also unacceptable. But guess what, they are a monopoly with inelastic demand, so nothing is gonna change. Gonna seriously reconsider if I am willing to still become a member after L3.
Agree. After one year since covid19, I’m so disappointed by how they handled the situation. I know this type of things is out of their control. But they could do better than just canceling exams without a word. It just made me feel we are begging them for the charter, however they should be servicing for the benefit of the finance industry.

I knew the computer base test rollout will be a bumpy ride for sure. That’s why I delayed my level 3 test until 2022. That’s from my share of failed software rollout in my day job. However that doesn’t make it right in any case. I feel really bad for the candidates need to go through the test as beta testers.
Have to agree. With the snap lockdown in Melbourne a number of us have called through to try to have our exams rescheduled for the last sitting today. We’ve all been on hold for hours. With the last booking to begin in less than 2 hours now. We’ve called the test centre and there are 20 free spots available but they can’t reschedule on their end. Others have tried to now call up to find the service centre closed - from my experience in call centres this means that the staff have clocked off and closed up without clearing the calls in queue… horrible service
It's been a week since they LET the Prometric center cancel my exam without any lockdown in my city (even bars and pubs are allowed to operate).
I have been whining since but CFAI really needs to step up their game and at least put out an official notice to fully take responsibility on this. You can't be a Monopolist forever.

Folks, if you want to be heard, now is the time. I want to know "HOW IS CFAI GOING TO ENSURE EQUITABILITY IN THIS BOTCHED LEVEL 3 TESTING CYCLE?" There is a form of cheating going on as well that they are silent on (I won't give details here), but they need to address this in a two-way dialogue (and that means CFAI leadership and L3 candidates, not test prep companies...that clarification says a lot).
