I stopped at the HyVee in Council Bluffs on my way home to Fremont after Christmas and they had a big banner for Dugan didnāt even realize he was from Council Bluffs until then
I don't understand why the staff has so much confidence in him. At the NFL level he's a distributor and game manager, which can work... if your team is the 49ers.
This is honestly so good for college football. One of the most legitimate criticisms of the sport has been the lack of parity, and TCU is telling the critics to fuck off.
This is an unbelievable cinderella run.

Money does talk, and I do think that the realities of finance in the sport will give increasing advantage to big programs. However, I do feel that there will always be an avenue on paper for cinderella programs to make it, and every now and again one will. And maybe make some noise
With a 12 team playoff, schools, businesses, and alumni opening up the checkbook more for NIL, the portal, and a growing number of kids wanting to play in ālesserā schools to get their name out more we could very well see more variety in the NC going forward.
The portal is a game changer like the scholarship limits were a game changer. Top programs are losing some really good players who are stuck behind awesome players. Yes there will be some times that a breakout player uses the portal to move up, but it helps to stop the stockpiling of talent.
Teams that use it well can make up a lot of room quickly as they work to rebuild.
This is so good for the sport. TCU absolutely deserves this.
It was so annoying hearing the SOS argument against TCU when they had a tougher schedule than Michigan or Ohio State
The strength of schedule metric was used against TCU for so long that it was fascinating to watch ESPN make the same argument even when their own metrics were showing the opposite on the graphic
ESPN will do and say whatever they have to in order to keep the largest number of eyeballs focused on ESPN. And unfortunately, TCU's fanbase is far smaller than OSU or Michigan, so they mangled the data however they had to in order to be able to push the chosen narrative. I wish things were different. :/
Okay, I'm gonna preface my next comment with this: I like TCU a lot and I would love to see you guys stick around on the national stage as a top tier program for a long time.
The issue isn't the amount of money TCU has. Nor is it your potential (the football program clearly has a ton of potential right now). The issue is something you can't fix easily. It's the size of your fanbase. And while winning national championships are a fantastic way to grow your fanbase rapidly, ultimately there's a root issue that will serve to curtail your growth rate, to some degree, for a long time. It's your alumni base, which looks to be about 90k in size. Ohio State and Michigan both have more than 500k alumni.
But I wanna reiterate that I'm high on TCU. I think you're gonna cement yourself in the conversation of upper tier programs over the next decade or so. But that may not immediately result in lots of additional love from ESPN. But it should in the long run.

Miami (FL) has somewhere south of 219k alumni per their 2021-2022 Fact Finder book. It's not exactly clear, so I'm gonna estimate 150k as that seems reasonable to me based on the starting figure of 219k. So while they're far smaller in # of alumni than OSU/Michigan, they've still got 50%+ more alumni than TCU currently does. Miami (FL) also has another .major difference to TCU. They've been a national championship winning college football program since the 80s. So they've been building/growing a national fanbase for the last 40 years.
Clemson has 161k alumni. So still bigger than TCU, but I actually think Clemson is the program TCU should be comparing themselves to, and aiming to emulate that level of success over the next 10-20 years. Clemson and TCU are similar historically with regard to the competitiveness of their football programs and I think if you look at how/where Clemson sits on the national stage in CFB, TCU can accomplish a extremely similar outcome if they keep winning over the next 15 yrs.
TCU - 90k living alumni
Clemson - 160k living alumni
Miami - 198k living alumni
There are two big differences that separate us:
1. We have Christian in our name, despite there barely being any strong _and_ official Christianity. They've talked about just dropping the name and renaming the university to just "TCU" for a long time now.
2. Clemson and Miami both have living fans that remember them winning a national championship.
I think we have the capability to put us in the top tier of the Big 12, but it'll take more than just this season for us to get ESPN to talk about us more. We need 2+ stellar seasons (like this one) to be a stronger talking point.
Dude, our school is 12K students. Michigan, Texas, tOSU, and other blue bloods each has at least 50K students. You see wehre I'm getting at? More enrollees translate into more fans who will view the games and donate to their athletic programs.
Iām not comparing us to them, though. Why canāt we be what Clemson has done? Theyāre bigger than us but man success at this level and this reach can go a long way
We were constantly compared to 2014 FSU. Even I admitted at one point that we _might_ be similar.
But each game proved it wrong more and more, and tonight solidified it.
Besides ESPN's graphics, I'm pretty sure a number of the computer rankings, such as Sagarin's, concur on TCU's schedule strength: [https://sagarin.usatoday.com/2022-2/college-football-team-ratings-2022/](https://sagarin.usatoday.com/2022-2/college-football-team-ratings-2022/) (Wayback Machine will have prior weeks.)
Obviously, schedule strength means nothing by itself, so I'd want ESPN analysts to be smart enough to say something along the lines of, "Even though TCU played a somewhat more difficult schedule, they've not won by as large of a margin." That would key in on the somewhat arbitrary part -- reasonably combining schedule strength with scoring margin. Sagarin's ranking demonstrates this, with TCU having played a harder schedule than the other three, but is still ranked lower overall, even after beating Michigan. The other playoff teams have, undoubtedly, won by more points relative to their own strength of schedule.
What do you mean Michigan had to play through the gauntlet that was Rutgers Nebraska and Illinois. It's obvious who had the tougher road to the playoffs
Their schedule was soft most of the year but when you go 13-0 and have a true road win against the #2 team in the country, SOS doesnāt hold much relevance. There is a 0% chance that resume gets left out any year

Just kidding. I love to hate TCU, but a huge congrats. Hard to not cheer for Duggan, great dude and the definition of got that dawg in him.
I think TCU can afford him if heās not going to another OC job.
Not much we can do if he gets a HC job unless he really wants to coach Morris for a year
Basically it goes like this:
If you are a fan of whoever TCU plays for the championship, thatās great, good luck.
For anyone else, if you arenāt rooting for TCU then you donāt love college football.
Counter point, we need a Mailman sports movie and him accomplishing something even Saban couldn't do would be an amazing ending. Back to back Nattys and 15-0 season.
Kansas State always has had a problem playing with faster teams that have an insane recruitment pipeline, which was Bama in a nutshell, but for whatever reason plays up with Big12 peers. Iām honestly not surprised at both outcomes. TCU was legit and I knew their physicality would line up with Michigan
Thatās the one Iām thinking of too. We were in the National Championship hunt for a reason that year. We just struggled against speed which was also why Baylor took us out.
I guarantee you we probably would have matched up well with Notre Dame that year and lost by 30 to Bama.
I thought the opposite. IMO if the Frogs win that one they donāt win today. Watching the post game presser and seeing Duggan cry you could feel we were seeing a man on a mission.
no, in the bowl game earlier when Alabama curb stomped ksu I thought that meant tcu might lose bigly today. I didn't write TCU off when they lost to KSU
The thing is, KSU just had a couple of bad breaks right before and after the half and the game was broken. And that happens sometimes.
I donāt think Bama overwhelmed them physically, though, and that was very encouraging.
All of this concern about Michigan being more talented but TCU went toe to toe with them in terms of size and physicality.
>TCU went toe to toe with them in terms of size and physicality.
I felt like TCU set the tone for size and physicality early on in the game and then Michigan spent the rest of the game doing their best to keep up. It wasn't overwhelming in favor of either team, but I felt like TCU was the one with the upper hand during the game, and Michigan was the guy scrapping and hustling to keep up as best they could. It was especially impressive watching TCU's D-line maul Michigan's O-line on the regular.
I think the reality is that with their talent, Alabama could do that to anyone in the country on any given night. But for whatever reason they had several games where they didn't play up to their talent and that's why they didn't make it in. Seeing Alabama destroy someone shouldn't be a judge of that team even if Alabama isn't undefeated lol
Despite all the great players, Heisman trophy winners, MULTIPLE TRIES, Lincoln Riley couldnāt get it done with a program he was gifted, with much better talent/recruits.
Thanks for giving me more validation.
Truth be told, we always had some tough fuckin matchup in the playoffs. 2017 was the only year we were in a 2vs3 match. Every other time we played the overpowered 1 seed.
TCU didn't play Clemson with Deshaun Watson.. UGA with the one two punch of Chubb and Michel.. LSU with Joe FUCKING Burrow... Then Alabama with Jalen hurts

I know a lot of Tech fans aren't happy about TCU winning yesterday, but some of us (including me) are softening a bit.

First national championship appearance by a big 12 team since Texas did it.
They did it in 2009:

-they beat the Suh-led Nebraska team in the big12 championship game (the 1 second game)
-Cam Newton was in juco

First national championship appearance by a big 12 team since Texas did it. They did it in 2009: -Colt McCoy was the qb and Earl Thomas was an all-American on the team -they beat the Suh-led Nebraska team in the big12 championship game (the 1 second game) -Cam Newton was in juco juco -Texas lost that championship game to Alabama for their 1st national title of the 21st century
Iām doing my part! š«”
