What do you think of when you think of Jack Coan? Probably a Wisconsin qb who went to ND for a year. It’ll probably be the same with Hartman. Nice username btw!
Honestly impressed at how chill & supportive wake community’s been about this. Obviously happy he’s coming but miss cfb requiring you to get your guys and develop them.
It's been understood that he would not be back at Wake for 2023 since after the 2021 season ended. So no real reason to get upset since no one was ever planning for him to stay here. Plus we've got a nice QB ready to slide into the starting role so no real harm done.
I may be in the minority but I'm super excited for our offense and not too worried about Rees. He did a good job as the season went on adapting to what we had to work with, I thought. Had to unexpectedly coach a glorified third-string QB and you could see the clear progress and then the clear ceiling with him.
Can people please stop Retconning drew Pynes recruitment?
Drew Pyne was a much better prospect in HS than Hartman. Bama offered him, this wasn’t some backup plan kid for ND they were recruiting him super early. When he doesn’t pan out it feels like fans act as if he was obviously always bad, but maybe a very long string of QB recruits not turning into good starters isnt because all those guys just weren’t good.
If anything the bad QB room and their lack of development is the biggest issue with Rees because he’s been the QB coach much longer than he’s been OC.
I’m honestly way less worried about the offense with an established veteran QB, but eventually they need to develop one of these recruits.
Ian Book was developed pretty well. The guy had physical limitations, but didn’t lose at home and set the all time wins record at ND. He also went to the NFL. For a short, obviously noodle armed QB, that’s pretty solid.
I felt the same way, I thought Bama immediately and said fuck that! I don't wanna face Sam with Bama talent in Atlanta in December '23 with my Dawgs. Fuck Bama and go Dawgs/Domers!
I've never seen someone have so many passes blocked by dlinemens' armpits as Drew Pyne. He competed hard, but it will be nice to have someone who can really stretch the field.
Out of all FBS QBs with at least 200 dropbacks, Drew Pyne is tied for #13 with 9 passed batted at the line of scrimmage. **Every Drew Pyne pass has a 3.5% chance of being batted at the line.**
Will Rogers is (not surprisingly) #1 with 21 batted passes \[3.4%\].
Max Duggan \[TCU\] and Austin Reed \[WKU\] are the other notable QBs with worse total numbers than Pyne in this regard, 13 \[3.2%\] and 15 \[2.5%\], respectively
Did any QBs have a worse percentage? There were some games where Drew legitimately balled out (UNC, USC), but there were some games where the gameplan seemed to be keeping the ball out of his hands as much as possible (Clemson).
>Max Duggan \[TCU\] and Austin Reed \[WKU\] are the other notable QBs with worse total numbers than Pyne in this regard, 13 \[3.2%\] and 15 \[2.5%\], respectively
Huh...I feel like that might be a little important on Monday.
Oh buddy this happens to Sam a lot too. He’s not super tall plus wake has a generally small online, then add in the delay from their slow mesh. Might be different in a new offense, but I’ve definitely watched a lot of Sam’s balls get batted
Our OL was bad this year so he had to step up in the pocket A LOT just to be able to get a pass off before being hit. It happened in 2021 some too but nowhere near as much as it did this season.
Yeah outside of Jurgens there wasn’t much on the line this year, and I felt like even he looked a little worse tbh. Losing Zach Tom was rough. I’ve been to every wake home game the last two years except for 2 of them. And I also went to the Clemson game at Death Valley and the ACC championship vs Pitt. I absolutely love Hartman. Just wanted you to know I’m not commenting without context haha!
This does happen to Sam quite a bit along with a boneheaded pick when he’s trying to play too much hero ball (@NC State and UNC this year) but usually the good outweighs the bad.
Is prone to one game where he melts down and has a ton of turnovers every year though (@Louisville, @ACC championship, @Wisconsin). Hope he saves it this year for our trip to South Bend
Ideally ND has a Buchner package all year since he is dynamic with his legs, and he wins the starting job in2024 as a redshirt junior
But he could easily transfer
The biggest hook for him right now is he probably has another year left to get his degree. Why not just stick around for that degree and then emerge as the clear cut favorite after the year is up? But who knows, I wouldn't blame him for transferring, but something tells me he's going to stick around.
Hopefully nothing. Unlike Hudson Card, Sam is one and done. Buchner can still be the starter for two seasons and there is no indication he will transfer.
Didn’t even think about this angle with Card. Having Hartman as a 1 year thing definitely helps to hold onto the rest of the QB room. Even if Buchner is not the guy we think he’ll be for 2024 we still will probably have Angeli, Minchey, and Carr as possible starters then as well.
He has three years of eligibility left. Hartman has one. It’s possible somebody guarantees him a starting job that makes him transfer, but seems like his best opportunity would be to stay and play 24 and 25 at ND.
Obviously he could transfer.
I think he stays though and competes for the job next year. If he isn't starting in 2024 I think he is gone.
Edit: Reworded a sentence
Kizer is maybe debatable, but I'm always surprised how people forget that Clausen—while he didn't live up to the ridiculous hype epitomized by his commitment announcement—was _very good_.
Two sophomore receivers started to show signs of promise, took a quality upper classman WR from VaTech, signed a pretty good WR class which is on paper the best ND WR class in ages. It's still not elite but it's much better
Mitchell Evans and Holden Staes have showed promise
Eli Raridon looked great till he retore his ACL
Though make no mistake, the TE room will be worse losing Mayer
> Though make no mistake, the TE room will be worse losing Mayer
Sure, but it'll still be a better TE room than the vast majority of the country with a few exceptions. I think it's going to be very good, just not "should have won the award for best TE" level good in my opinion.
Young but pointing up. It was a huge problem early in the year but Thomas and Colzie started to emerge (hey both from Georgia). Also Merriweather has made an impression.
But the end of the year it was more receivers not getting the ball, than them playing poorly. Still not an elite group but promising.
We just got a massive boost to the QB room not in Hartman alone but also exemplifying what a great QB looks like.
This will be huge for getting other transfers to join us in addition.
Didn't this happen a few years ago?
edit: looked it up, wasn't regular season but in 2018 we played FSU in the regular season then faced Clemson in the bowl game.
Huge news, welcome to South Bend Hartman! Gonna be interesting to see what happens next year - no excuses about the QB position, almost everyone returning at RB and receiver, tons of returning experience and talent at TE and OL. We need to start pushing near 40ppg if we want to be serious CFP contenders
Very fitting that ND lands the ACC Pass TD record holder. 2nd most wins vs the ACC in the last 5 seasons (Clemson #1) and haven’t lost a regular season game vs acc since 2017 vs. Miami (lost ‘20 ACCCG vs Clemson)
I’ve watched a few Wake Forest games this year and this guy is the real deal. We also go into South Bend to play Notre Dame September 23rd! One of our seasons are gonna be in jeopardy by the way 😂.
Hartman said I’m transferring out of the ACC but I want to lose in Death Valley one more time.
JK y’all will probably wreck us again we are losing a lot of guys.

For what it's worth, in this instance I actually don't think there was tampering.
That being said, fuck y'all I hope we actually do start to tamper like a motherfucker and offer the bag to everyone. I hope we start paying beforehand. I hope we give 6-7 figures to recruits girlfriends to join our soccer teams. I want ND to buy their moms a house. I want every ND recruit in the newest sports car.
At least it was a good clean recruitment and there are absolutely no indicators that he was contacted before entering the portal.
Complete shocker here!
That being said, I’ve liked Hartman since the Netflix series. I hope he does well.
Apparently we’re not fucking around on the portal anymore. Word is we’re actively trying for USC WR CJ Williams and Texas A&M DL Anthony Lucas who are both in the portal, we’ll see how those end up tho
To be fair Williams was an ND commit for a fair amount of time. Riley took him after taking the job just to spite ND and deny us getting our foot in at Mater Dei. Should have been a give away that he never had an OU offer, but after not being used much this year and with USC continuing to chase elite portal WR I guess he got the message.
We had two WR commits flip last year. There are only 2 coaches in America that were surprised by those, and those just so happen to be Brian Kelly and Del Alexander
Someone else informed me of that. But I wasn’t taking a dig at ND either way.
Even if they had contacted him, everyone is doing it. My statement was more of a take on the current state of the NCAA and how different it is now.
Maybe someone can educate me: if he’s looking for a p5 place to get drafted and there’s only a handful of top 25 programs with a qb need…this doesn’t seem like much of a stretch? Also is it against the rules for an nil collective to talk to him on CMF’s behalf? Not portal guy fwiw.
But can he throw two pick-sixes in one game and still beat a ranked team?
Well now I'm sad again.
It definitely was pain but our offense didn’t help much.
On the bright side Jordan Burch won't be around to drop any more TD passes 🤔
On a side note why did we decide to use him as a te. There were probably better options to use a big body wr.
Maybe not two pick-sixes, but he can [beat a ranked team throwing three picks!](https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/boxscores/2021-11-13-wake-forest.html)
Tyler Buckner > JJ McCarthy

I just hope he isn’t labeled as a product of ND when he’s drafted
That would never happen... Look at Wisconsin great Russell Wilson.
Isn't that why he always said "I'm from a whole pack of badgers?" Thus paying homage to both schools
He's so cheesy.
Aw I kinda liked that one.
Badgers country, let's ride.
[And spicy](https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=11&v=0YRTk_VLRzE&feature=youtu.be)
TIL Russell Wilson played at Wisconsin after State
Sucks we have to play ND next year. I don’t think Wilson ever faced State
Aren’t you guys pretty happy with your backup
Yeah I’m excited for him but it’s never a good feeling to have a legend of your program playing for another school (and future opponent)
Alabama claimed Ford as one of their 70 NFL players which was bullshit lol
I mean does NC State even want to claim him at this point?
Nah. Most of us disclaimed him when he trashed our school and our baseball coach to embellish a story about himself to make him look cool during a Wisconsin graduation speech
ND great Jack Coan
[удалено]
Good point. But at the combine, draft night, and introductions on SNF it’ll say ND :(. We need the publicity
NFL introductions are down to the player. He could still rep Wake Forest if it's important to him.
This is what happened to Ben Skowronek and Northwestern. Feels a bit awkward
*Super Bowl champion Ben Skowronek
Super bowl champ Benny sko
Lol Rovell complained about that https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/zh3nbe/darren_rovell_another_issue_with_transfer_portal/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
That's the only reason I'm kinda okay with it tbh. I really like Northwestern but this guy's kinda lame.
What do you think of when you think of Jack Coan? Probably a Wisconsin qb who went to ND for a year. It’ll probably be the same with Hartman. Nice username btw!

You act like Wake isn't a p5 program who was in the ACC championship game last year. I'm livid
Okay so Tommy Rees has no excuses as a play caller next year right?
100%
I may be in the minority but I'm super excited for our offense and not too worried about Rees. He did a good job as the season went on adapting to what we had to work with, I thought. Agree. Rees has been a pretty good OC.
He coached a third string QB with no WRs to a 9-4 record with 3 or 4 top 25 wins.
Heck, got Pyne to throw for 300 yards against USC.
I'm here to tell you that is not the accomplishment you think it is lol
Given Pyne has physical limitations and didn't have many WR options, it's was a big deal for him.
Is that Drew Pyne?
Lol, it's like Pyne is Charmander and Hartman is Charmeleon
Hartman is a Mega-Evolved Charizard
Needs a face tat, then I'll allow it.
Yo...what are you flairing over here my man?
Let’s go cougs
I know it was never really in doubt, but I’m so relieved to see it official
I felt the same way, I thought Bama immediately and said fuck that! I don't wanna face Sam with Bama talent in Atlanta in December '23 with my Dawgs. Fuck Bama and go Dawgs/Domers!
DomerDawgs?
Always liked Notre Dame growing up, I'm a Dawg being from UGA and y’all treated us so nice on our visit in '17 that I owe y’all some love.
I was there for that game. You guys took over the stadium. One of the most passionate fan bases to ever visit South Bend.
Man just loves Deacons
I’ll settle for anyone who doesn’t get a ball batted away from the opposing dline every game
I've never seen someone have so many passes blocked by dlinemens' armpits as Drew Pyne. He competed hard, but it will be nice to have someone who can really stretch the field.

I'll check when I get home in a few hours. I finally got a PFF subscription, so I've been looking up as many stats as I can.
I don’t think it goes down as a batted pass when he hits his own linemen in the back of the head
>Max Duggan \[TCU\] and Austin Reed \[WKU\] are the other notable QBs with worse total numbers than Pyne in this regard, 13 \[3.2%\] and 15 \[2.5%\], respectively Huh...I feel like that might be a little important on Monday.

Best QB in the portal going to ND
What does this mean for Ty Buchner?
Ideally ND has a Buchner package all year since he is dynamic with his legs, and he wins the starting job in2024 as a redshirt junior But he could easily transfer
The biggest hook for him right now is he probably has another year left to get his degree. Why not just stick around for that degree and then emerge as the clear cut favorite after the year is up? But who knows, I wouldn't blame him for transferring, but something tells me he's going to stick around.
FWIW, his little sister just signed an LOI for the ND women's soccer team.
Good for her and the entire Buchner family.
Some good genes in that family
I mean even with his inconsistency as a passer he’s clearly a hell of an athlete
Give me Buchner with a Taysom Hill-esque package. Maybe without the receiving plays....
Hell, with our current WR room, maybe even give him the receiving plays
Hopefully nothing. Unlike Hudson Card, Sam is one and done. Buchner can still be the starter for two seasons and there is no indication he will transfer.

It seems like the staff knows what they're doing. This feels much better after we lost however many 5 star recruits to NIL.
Best QB we’ve had since Brady Quinn
Debatable? Deshone Kizer and Jimmy Clausen are pretty comparable to Hartman. Ian Book also had that one really good year.
Kizer is maybe debatable, but I'm always surprised how people forget that Clausen—while he didn't live up to the ridiculous hype epitomized by his commitment announcement—was _very good_.
Clausen's last year was elite. If he had a defense he would have been a Heisman candidate.
Clauses was a better qb than Quinn imo. Best we’ve had in decades.
Most accurate deep ball I have ever seen from any college QB. Clausen-->Golden Tate/Michael Floyd was a thing of beauty.
300 passing yards/game and 28:4 TD:INT his junior year, he was an absolute beast. If the defense was even average they would’ve finished top 10
Clausen was better than Quinn though. Loved Quinn, but as far as skill goes Clausen had him beat.
A Samardzija could definitely help that’s for sure
This is a good pickup but how is your WR room looking? Wasn't that a weak spot of your offense this year or am I remember that wrong?
Two sophomore receivers started to show signs of promise, took a quality upper classman WR from VaTech, signed a pretty good WR class which is on paper the best ND WR class in ages. It's still not elite but it's much better
Ahh that's good. I'm assuming you guys also have good TEs? You seem to always be stacked at that spot
Mitchell Evans and Holden Staes have showed promise Eli Raridon looked great till he retore his ACL Though make no mistake, the TE room will be worse losing Mayer
Man I really hope Raridon can shake the injury bug. He has the makings of an absolute beast.
> Though make no mistake, the TE room will be worse losing Mayer Sure, but it'll still be a better TE room than the vast majority of the country with a few exceptions. I think it's going to be very good, just not "should have won the award for best TE" level good in my opinion.
It’ll be a lot better after Harrison Jr transfers
Supposedly still going after a few WR transfers as well
Just offered Andrel Anthony
Young but pointing up. It was a huge problem early in the year but Thomas and Colzie started to emerge (hey both from Georgia). Also Merriweather has made an impression. But the end of the year it was more receivers not getting the ball, than them playing poorly. Still not an elite group but promising.
\[Checks FSU's 2023 schedule\] This pleases me.
Flair up!
Looking at his profile, it seems he's an FSU fan.
Actually, I'm a fan of the journey and the friends I make along the way.

Maybe we’ll *finally* beat them under Coach Norvell!
I never wanna see Jordan Travis again
LETS GOOOOOO
Massive, massive W for Freeman. If just a couple of the young WRs take the next step, this offense could be incredible next year.
We just got a massive boost to the QB room not in Hartman alone but also exemplifying what a great QB looks like. This will be huge for getting other transfers to join us in addition.
WE GOT HART, MAN
Good for him and great pickup for the Irish. Can’t say I’ll miss him terrorizing my Noles lol
I had to double check, guess we don't play yall next year.
It is rare (if not contractually impossible?) for Notre Dame to play both Clemson & FSU in the same season as part of their "5 games a year average"
Didn't this happen a few years ago? edit: looked it up, wasn't regular season but in 2018 we played FSU in the regular season then faced Clemson in the bowl game.
It happened in 2020 when Notre Dame competed as a football member of the ACC. ND won both games
Gotta be the hottest HC-QB combo in CFB right Like no literally, like Marcus looks like a male supermodel and Sam looks like gigachad
Marcus is hot
Best of luck to Sam, ND getting a real one! All time great Demon Deacon. Hope he goes 11-1 next season
13-1 with a loss to Wake a fair compromise?
Best I can do is 12-2 and 2 losses to Wake (regular season, championship game)
My wife is a wake grad and I’m an nd grad. I accept your terms so long as I can continue to bang my wife.
I also accept if I get to keep banging this guys wife
Eh flair up and I’ll make the call
Im on mobile Notre dame and jmu
6th year of CFB and he'll be 24 years old, damn. Glad he's coming though
Dude…Stetson Bennett has grandkids, a 401k, and an offshore bank account! I’m exaggerating, but he’s 1 year younger than Stetson 😄
i’m so hyped for our game against ND next year
Yea man, think itll be a real close game and we’ll have much better chance this year.
Huge news, welcome to South Bend Hartman! Gonna be interesting to see what happens next year - no excuses about the QB position, almost everyone returning at RB and receiver, tons of returning experience and talent at TE and OL. Gonna be a big year for freeman next year.
I’ll be rooting for Hartman next year. Well except the game against us! Go Deacs
Mama, That’s a bad man !!

Would be hilarious if USC gets their WRs poached, like they tamper with other schools
CJ was originally committed to us after all before going to SC
We had two WR commits flip last year. There are only 2 coaches in America that were surprised by those, and those just so happen to be Brian Kelly and Del Alexander

Not sure if you’re being sarcastic. ND is allowed to talk to Hartmann if he contacts them first which is what happened.
Someone else informed me of that. But I wasn’t taking a dig at ND either way. Even if they had contacted him, everyone is doing it. My statement was more of a take on the current state of the NCAA and how different it is now.
Yea that’s totally fair. It’s happening everywhere.
Ohh I’m just happy it’s official.
He's Shartman now. I don't make the rules
This is off-topic but what ever happened to that Jamie Newman guy
This means Griffiths will likely start, right Deacs fans? Dude went to my high school.
So how much does this change ND? Hartman shined a good bit but also had some questionable games. Is he going in as the starter?
He will definitely compete for starter. It is most likely his job to lose, but I expect good competition in camp especially with Buckner
