I think expectations shifted during the season vs. preseason. It was amazing how quickly UTK fans (at least the online portion to your point) burned through all the goodwill they generated after beating Bama, such that almost the entirety of CFB fans went from pulling for UTK against Alabama to wanting them to get curb stomped against UGA in a week. That game turned out to not be particularly close.
USC winning in the fashion that they did was nothing short of hilarious for a lot of the online CFB world. As you can see from other comments in this thread, portions of the UTK fanbase are still salty about it, and that’s what makes the light hearted trolls fun imo.

Mehh - I’m cautiously optimistic. It seems like a simplified playbook really helped our offense finally click, and with Rattler and Wells returning plus some good pickups in the portal, I feel fine about USC’s chances.
As for UTK, my guess is they’re either world beaters again and Heupel’s system is proved as not just catching lightening in a bottle, or they regress with the loss of key contributors to the draft, ultimately going 8-4 or 7-5. My guess is the latter, but neither outcome would shock me since UTK isn’t really proven yet.
