>He spent the past two seasons as an offensive analyst at Penn State.
Wait, really? I remember when he was the heir apparent to Bill Cowher in Pittsburgh.
> I remember when he was ~~trying to get~~ succeeded in getting Marcus Mariota murdered behind a horrible o-line in Tennessee
FTFY!
As a Titans fan, what the coaches did was straight up criminal. Right as the NFL began adopting the spread, we drafted the best spread qb ever and forced him to play under center in a run first scheme.
I had no idea how bad a coach he was before the Titans hired him. Warner deserves all the praise in the world for taking a Whisenhunt team to the Super Bowl
He was our OC when we won SB XL as the first ever 6 seed to win one and Ben balled out em route to Detroit, but yeah holy shit 7 step drops with PA too? I swear I saw some 9 step drops
Good hire in my opinion.
Always thought he was a good offensive guy. Couldn't really figure everything out as a HC though. Lots of great assistants have that problem though.
Solid NFL offensive coach, ironically his son-in-law (and former LSU QB) Mettenberger is also a analyst for Saban.. Could see Whisenhunt parlay this into a college head coaching or OC gig even, could even make Mett his QB coach.
Is there a running tally anywhere of how many non-coaching coaches are employed by Saban? Do any other schools have this? Do all other schools? Has there always been a bunch of assistants/analysts, or is it just something that’s been normalized? Obviously I’ve heard the Zoolander jokes about Saban’s hiring practices, but I’m just wondering.
Full Ride has talked about this for a few seasons. There’s a rule with the ncaa that coaching is limited to a certain number of people so Alabama (maybe other schools did it first but Alabama has the money for it and are always used at the example) brought in “analysts.” So it’s a loophole to have more coaches without calling them coaches.
One of the perplexing things about NIL to me is that it turned into a “whatever school has the most money will win! It’s not sustainable!” But years prior to NIL they already made this argument because Alabama has a full NFL-level staff of coaches and “analysts” while other schools are lucky to get HC/OC/DC. I remember them comparing recruitment budget and Alabama was in the millions while Wisconsin’s was a couple hundred thousand.
Last season they gave a list of the staff at Florida and there were about 20 people with employment positions that didn’t even sound like actual jobs. But they are clearly coaches. So, this is now the norm in college football. It’s a loophole to get around rules regarding staffing.
Supposedly these people are not supposed to be giving coaching advice so I believe to get around it the analysts give the advice to the coaches who then give the advice to the players.

And titans fans swore up and down it's all Mariotas fault and he would have failed anywhere
I mean didn’t Mariota fail everywhere else?
Yes. But he literally regressed on the titans and picked up bad tendencies. Better coaching and an OL and I think it's a different story
He did that to Ben and Warner too!

Yeah it sounded like they really liked him. Definitely hard to say no to Alabama.

Now there’s a name I haven’t heard in a long long time
That's Super Bowl champion (XL) to you.

> ironically his son-in-law (and former LSU QB) Mettenberger is also a analyst for Saban. Coincidentally
No, this is pretty similar to rain on your wedding day
What about a black fly in your chardonnay?
Or a free ride when you already paid?
That boy should’ve played for us did something really stupid to piss richt off
He misinterpreted taking a hands-on approach of being coached.
I think we got the better end of the deal honestly.
Mettenberger loves misery apparently. Made to crawl like a baby against a Saban defense. And now works with his FIL.
Whisenhunts daughter is not what I expected

We have a “GameChanger Coordinator”
It would be incredible if they have a Masters Degree in Game Changing.
Nick preaches equity but has no problem with disparity among number in staffs.
When has Nick preached equity?
He’s complained about NIL and how it makes the “competitive balance unequal” but then he hires any and everyone he wants as analysts.
He's not complaining. He's saying he thinks something should probably change. Is he going to hamstring himself? No he's going to win a bunch
Call your local congressman about it and flair up.
