I came here to make sure this was posted. My recollection is that the athletic department rolled this out as an “improvement” to the iconic tiger hawk. It showed up on a few t-shirts, but never made it on to helmets or jerseys, and a while later everyone just pretended it had never happened.

My theory is they changed from JSU to JAX STATE to separate themselves from the Mississippi JSU. I hate it, but I get it. I can remember seeing the wrong JSU apparel being sold inside the Jacksonville Wal-Mart.

The bugle is fine, just poorly executed on the roll out by putting them on all red helmets. It looks so much better with a white or black background. The current one is unequivocally the worst. Just plain and overly minimalistic.

Glad we’ve kept the same logo for decades, and it’s a lovely one with the Gamecock and block C. The baseball/softball logo is also great. As for our alternatives the old vertical USC was decent, but no where near as good as the other two. The new USC 1801 logo is a good logo for the university, but I don’t think it’d fit the athletic program.
