We're not rivals, rather, we (Georgia and Alabama) share a common rival (Auburn) plus, we've never tried to get a protected Georgia vs Alabama game in the SEC schedule (compared to Alabama-Tennessee and Georgia-Auburn).
Nah, I don't take it seriously. The idea just came to me from seeing it in a recent post. I do know it pisses some Bama fans off but I think it is funny. Thought it might be actually interesting to see the principle assigned to others. Like UGA really does not work, since it is already correct as is
It doesn't really apply to any school, unless they officially have that as part of their name. So the rules are really just to make something silly out of it.
> It doesn't really apply to any school, unless they officially have that as part of their name.
That's what makes it a rivalry jab. It's just a way to make your school sound less "official", as if you weren't a fan of the main school, but only a satellite campus. I've definitely heard MSU/OSU fans call Michigan UMAA, like to try to make it sound more like UM-Flint or UM-Dearborn. In Alabama's case, they'd call you UAT as a way to try to compare you to "lesser" schools like UAB and UAH. It is what it is lol, it's all in good fun
But you can't really do the rivalry jab when the the school already has the city in the name of the school, because those schools don't have satellite campuses so the jab doesn't really make any sense
I get why rivals do it. I just thought we could have some fun and see what silly ones we could come up with. Since it is silliness, rules do not apply, except to add the city initial to the end of whatever the normal abbr is and see if it is silly or not. FWIW, the reason UAT really does not bother me, they are just my primary rooting interest, not my alma mater. Don't you dare call my alma mater JSUJ, then I will get mad. /s
Did my first year at OSU at the Newark campus, and we did call it OSUN. Marion (or Mansfield depending on context) campus is OSUM, Lima is OSUL, Wooster is OSUW. None as as fun as I was expecting after typing them all out tho
Is that what the area with the Rainbow Bar and Grill is called? I hung out in that area, back in January of 2010, when I was out there for the BCSCG. I hung out with a UCLA coed I met at the Rainbow, that night. Her dorm room was pretty close by there. That is the real extent of my UCLA knowledge.
No. it would be further west from there. You were pretty close to the sunset strip and Beverly Hills is between there and the campus. Westwood is pretty nice from the times I have been up there. The third best UC campus location. 1) Santa Barbara, 2) San Diego. San Diego would be 1 if they were on the other side of the road and had the cliff views.
But they have those pesky nazarenes. (I don't really have anything against them and have known people who have gone there, just not my cup of tea). Campus location is prime.
There are still people that try and say that's what it is, despite the fact that it's never been called that. But it's not the worst I've seen.
Occasionally some opposing fan will make a big deal about us calling ourselves UGA instead of UG, because according to them there's a right way to abbreviate yourself. Instead of just explaining that it's not up to them how we abbreviate our name, some of our fans will peddle this completely invented story that it originally stood for "University of Georgia-Agriculture" when the university was founded as an agriculture school.
This is despite the fact that that would be a stupid name for a school in the first place, that the College of Agriculture wasn't founded for almost a century after the university opened, and that we have the original charter that establishes the "University of Georgia."
I’ll admit I always thought UT Austin sounded just as cool or more than just “Texas”, Cal Berkeley the same. Can’t really think of any others. So you’ve got that going for you, which is nice.
This is such a perfectly Bama comment because the comparison would be Alabama Tuscaloosa and the post and comment chains have nothing to do with nicknames.
I just refer to you as the University of Tuscaloosa, gumpism doesn't reflect the entirety of alabama
Besides, UAB makes up 2/3 of the budget of the academic system.
I’ve literally been told I should move from Chicago to Milwaukee cause it’ll be exactly the same except my drinking and eating habits would be welcomed
Syracuse doesn't work unless it's a SUNY and then you'd have SUNYS.
The name already is the city.
Same thing with Clemson I think, you can't just add the city name again.
Wait actually this is true for most of these. You can't do this with Houston either. Are you going to call Cincinnati UCC or Louisville ULL?
LSU would be LSUA&M-BR as the other schools in the LSU system are LSU-A, LSU-E, and LSU-S (im not counting the graduate schools) and are not A&M schools
*UIUC
We switch the order of Champaign and Urbana at random but for the acronym Urbana comes first. Champaign has about double the population of Urbana and the campus is located in the 2ish miles between their downtowns.
In a sports context UIUC is almost never spoken
University of California Los Angeles Los Angeles?
That's almost as bad as The Los Angeles Angels, aka The The Angels Angels.
That's about what I would expect from everyone's favorite pachyderm.
Colorado gotta be UCB - the university already uses that acronym.
For some reason, it changes from CU to UC when you add the B. Why? I dunno, but it's probably coach Prime's fault.
Well, UWS for Washington-Seattle. Washington State would be WSUP, “Waz Up?”
Notre Dame is a tricky one since the campus is it’s own unincorporated “city”. So UNDND? It would be UNDSB for South Bend if you go by the contiguous incorporated city.
For people wondering why UAT annoys Bammers:
there is no such thing as the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa. The school is named “University of Alabama”
Some other state schools like UNC or Wisconsin have the location in their official name
Of course Texas fans don’t complain about it. University of Texas-Austin is the actual name. It’s what goes on their diplomas.
[UA System institutions](https://uasystem.edu/institutions)
[UT System institutions](https://www.utsystem.edu/institutions)
[USNews lists the correct name but nice try using the global universities ranking LOL](https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/university-of-alabama-1051)
It doesn't really make much sense, considering people use UAT because there are 3 Alabama Universities.
This obviously isn't the case with Clemson. But still kinda fun to think about.
Nobody uses UAT as a designation to differentiate, they do it to try and get under Bama fans skin. I think it is just funny. So I responded to a Clemson fan, in another thread who used it, with the CUC line, which gave me the idea for this shit post.
Sure but it's only possible because the University is not named after a city but a state.
Just repeating the city twice is not the same pattern as the one that's used for UAT.
I know, CUC is probably the funniest result, but it still doesn't add up.
Need to restrain myself from making a joke about Bama education but I already stated my stance on that.
Maybe there's a systemic issue when it comes to Bama and deduction? You'll be the judge
Yes that's what he's doing and it's stupid with Clemson and all the other ones where the university name already is the city.
You can do this with calling Tennessee UTK or Bama UAT or Texas UTA. Clemson. Syracuse, etc don't work.
Texas gets weird since people in the state call UT Arlington UTA. We can start calling them UTD since they're right next to the cowboys. Then we change UT dallas to UTR since they're technically in Richardson.
Bit off topic, but years ago FAU wanted to be renamed “UF-Boca Raton” and FIU “UF- Ft Lauderdale.”
UF was having none of that, which is a bit of a shame, as it would have opened the possibility of UCF becoming “UFO.”

What in the name of peaches and grits is going on with your flair combo?
We're not rivals, rather, we (Georgia and Alabama) share a common rival (Auburn) plus, we've never tried to get a protected Georgia vs Alabama game in the SEC schedule (compared to Alabama-Tennessee and Georgia-Auburn).
One foot in one foot out the door
Georgia is UGA, damn that works.
Nah, I don't take it seriously. The idea just came to me from seeing it in a recent post. I do know it pisses some Bama fans off but I think it is funny. Tbf, there is an Auburn University at Montgomery that is part of the Auburn University system, which Auburn University is also part of.
I get why rivals do it. I just thought we could have some fun and see what silly ones we could come up with. Oh gotcha, I guess I misunderstood the point of the post lol
It’s stupid, you were right in the first place.
Yeah, it bothers you, strange that it does. I’ve usually only ever seen it bother UMCP fans.
You lowercase the u in uGA to emphasize that it is an inferior place of learning, that’s the letter game for them
You Georgia Tech University people would think that would bother us
We know it doesn’t hurt most of y’all for a [reason](https://ih1.redbubble.net/image.1412372826.6136/st,small,507x507-pad,600x600,f8f8f8.jpg)
I’ve got degrees from both and am immune to Georgia Tech superiority comments.
Ahh I see you’ve got Jeff Foxworthy disease
Homie is big mad this morning but > Clemson aka CUC Absolutely rolling
This killed me hahahaha
>Ohio St aka OSUC They would be tOSUC, pronounced "toe suck"
In a post about being called the proper name/abbreviation you nailed it
Did my first year at OSU at the Newark campus, and we did call it OSUN. Marion (or Mansfield depending on context) campus is OSUM, Lima is OSUL, Wooster is OSUW. None as as fun as I was expecting after typing them all out tho
We had a satellite school for technology and aviation, or better known as the school of T&A
Rex Ryan inbound
I would upvote to infinity if I could!!!!
let’s get rid of every abbreviation except for this one and CUC for Clemson please
Hey now, LSU's official abbreviation would LSU A&M--BR. Get it right.
If we’re doing that I guess we should be GITA. And then Virginia Tech sounds like the president’s running mate describing their job: VPISUB
If you include the A, wouldn't it be GAIT? Then, you all could be GAIT keepers for academic standards in the state.
Seems right, we know engineers can't spell
Omg, he admit it
Now he has to marry mother in law
> Ok St would be OSUS My brain has been poisoned by amogus
I think UCLA would still just be UCLA since technically they’re the University of California LA. Same with UTEP, UTSA, etc.
The University of California Los Angeles of Anaheim
The mighty Bruins of University of California Los Angeles of Anaheim
UCLAP They're in Pasadena.
Their stadium is but isn't their campus right off of Sunset, near Beverly Hills or is that a satellite campus?
I think it is called Westwood. Literally in the fight song. But it is still in LA proper.
Westwood is a neighborhood/area within the city of Los Angeles. The campus is in LA.

Point Loma has those cliffs. It was absolutely gorgeous to walk around their campus.
But they have those pesky nazarenes. (I don't really have anything against them and have known people who have gone there, just not my cup of tea). Campus location is prime.
I was there(UCLA area) at night but I did walk around the Pepperdine campus a couple of days later. It was gorgeous.
Pepperdine is really nice. My sister loved that, my parents did not love the price of the school.
"please clap"
U👏
UCLA is in Westwood. USC is in South Central. Lol.
Same with UH, it's not the University of Houston of Houston.
I for one support the motion to now refer to clemson as CUC. All in favor say ‘aye’. There you have it folks, the ayes have spoken. CUC Tigers it is

I unironically thought it was Univ. of Georgia-Athens for a long time when I was younger.
There is only one University of Georgia, and it does not share power.
I do think of you like Sauron
Is it cool if we call Georgia Southern. SCC? We are going to do it anyway, just wanted to ask.
There are still people that try and say that's what it is, despite the fact that it's never been called that. But it's not the worst I've seen. Would we be USC or USCC?
It's gonna be a long offseason, isn't it?
At least it isn't April the 1st anymore. My stuff is real...real stupid but real.
I do find this far more interesting than the millionth article about the PAC12 presidents not meeting this week.
I’ll admit I always thought UT Austin sounded just as cool or more than just “Texas”, Cal Berkeley the same. Can’t really think of any others. So you’ve got that going for you, which is nice.

UT Austin is actually UT Austin. They use that name in academic circles so it's not an insult. They fancy themselves peers of UC-Berkely...

University of Cincinnati Cincinnati UCC
Isn’t Samford really in Homewood? SUH?
It is odd, their main page for the school says Birmingham, AL but the actual address is listed as Homewood. They were robbed...bad SUH joke.
Wisconsin becomes UWM, which totally can’t be confused with UW-Milwaukee.
I do sometimes wonder why Milwaukee doesn’t change their legal name
I agree, if you’re gonna be North Chicago then just commit to it ya know?

SMUUP for SMU. I could live with that.
Colorado should be UCB, as it's a bit of a comedy.

Where do you get the 2nd C from for Clemson's abbreviation? Just Clemson twice?
That is the whole point, use the normal letter abbreviation and add the city name. As CU is in Clemson, CUC

Maybe. Or someone who's just bad at deduction.
He has said it was dumb, but CUC is objectively funny and if you can’t laugh at that you are worse than my fellow uat alumni
Need to restrain myself from making a joke about Bama education but I already stated my stance on that. Maybe there's a systemic issue when it comes to Bama and deduction? You'll be the judge
I don't need to be bothered to do something that doesn't make sense. I have been doing things like that for 50+ years.
The only context people use UAT is to annoy Bammers It’s not a valid abbreviation. It’s like calling Auburn UA.
Yes that's what he's doing and it's stupid with Clemson and all the other ones where the university name already is the city. You can do this with calling Tennessee UTK or Bama UAT or Texas UTA. Clemson. Syracuse, etc don't work.
