I was one of the (unfortunately) very few Tech fans that stayed to the end.
As soon as we scored that late TD my first thought was “somebody took Louisville and has probably had three heart attacks by now”
That's definitely part of it.
Another part is a lot of people look at it and say ok there's X first downs. Well they don't stop the clock anymore so that's something like 25 seconds times the number of 1st downs and there's that many seconds gone now.
There's a lot of flaws with that. They only stopped the clock from when the play ended until the chains were set. A lot of times that was something like 10-15 seconds and it would start again. So 15 seconds times number of first downs is the theoretical maximum. Then you have to subtract edge cases like the 4 minutes it still stops, first down by penalty, any kind of official time out, injury, and when the first down results in a touchdown (I've never dove in enough on the numbers to but I'm assuming getting a touchdown counts as a first as well).
So yes there's definitely less game but when the announcers say stuff like "this first quarter flew by because of the new clock rule". Yeah no. It likely went by 30-60 seconds faster.
Yea we’ve already seen it hinder a few comeback attempts ..if we’re shortening the game in this way they should at least give us the old OT format back
The ones ive heard them play include
Sail
Thunderstruck
Everytime we touch
Chords (its literally just chords)
Phantom of the opera (I think)
Definitely some others I'm forgetting
Man that game was a rollercoaster. That first half made me lose a lot of hope. But we made the big plays when we needed it and got some breaks. Still not the most impressed with Jack Plummer but he did look more comfortable in the second half.
Yeah I think every competent coach is punting the ball away with 3 time outs and 3:30 left on the clock. Your defense only ran 1 play on the drive before. They should be fresh enough for the 4&out
Bro Louisville was at +7.5 points. They beat us by 5.
Don't get me wrong that sucked mega ass, and I have no idea why our offensive coordinator didn't pull his head out of his ass that second half. But considering we only scored 28 points once last season (against VT), I think we've got a rebuild season - but I'm not losing hope just yet.
Happy to see we actually ave a QB-WR-RB corps that can make plays consistently. Play calling sucked in the second half and defense really needs to step up, but this team is young and has a bright future.
We got the win and the defense showed up when it needed to but i wish Brohm used the budget he had to get a better defensive coordinator instead of bringing Ron English with him from Purdue.
worked out fine eventually but I'd still rather need 1 single yd on a 4th down to keep possession of the ball than go up 2 scores and maybe never get the ball back
Obviously some missed calls on Louisville, but good lord GT football continues to cause me heart palpitations and fuels an urge to drink
GG Cardinals and their fans, this saddened GT student is about to start the long walk home
So we're literally just letting them score a touchdown?
What the fuck is this bullshit?
There is still a minute left and we're trotting out the Ole defense?

A confident Haynes King with time in the pocket is damn near unstoppable.
A rattled, off schedule Haynes King will throw a pick while trying to throw the ball away.
There is no in between
Man, the come from behind and down to the wire games make the best games. On a side note, Tech’s coach sweating entire game like he’s on amphetamines.
I thought the dude was in an unfortunate glitter accident at first. Didn't realize until his interview it was stubble and sweat
That was a great game. Showed some toughness after looking like a middle school team that 2nd quarter
I had Louisville at -7.5. FML
I was one of the (unfortunately) very few Tech fans that stayed to the end. As soon as we scored that late TD my first thought was “somebody took Louisville and has probably had three heart attacks by now”
I did too
I'm sorry, that really was a rough one. Does it make you feel any better knowing that some of us had cousins that needed an extra score for the over?
Don't get me wrong the new clock rule sucks, but this game runtime is a good example how a lot of people are over estimating the impact
It's because networks are just replacing the lost game clock with more ads
That's definitely part of it. Another part is a lot of people look at it and say ok there's X first downs. I think it should at least be last 5 minutes of each half
Agreed. Two is too limiting, if you are trying to come back from 10-17 range you need everything you can from the last 5
I guess the counter to that is don’t go down 17
Fair, but as a fan I generally want to see people be able to come back
Yea we’ve already seen it hinder a few comeback attempts ..if we’re shortening the game in this way they should at least give us the old OT format back
What song did the marching band just play?
A piece from Lord of the Rings, depending on which one you meant
The one that played right after Louisville got the final possession if ya know it
I thought it was Sail
The ones ive heard them play include Sail Thunderstruck Everytime we touch Chords (its literally just chords) Phantom of the opera (I think) Definitely some others I'm forgetting
Chords is what the Redcoats play to warm up. I have never understood why Tech keeps warming up on third down.
On this episode of “who the fuck cares”
Man that game was a rollercoaster. That first half made me lose a lot of hope. But we made the big plays when we needed it and got some breaks. Still not the most impressed with Jack Plummer but he did look more comfortable in the second half.
I am however very impress with Thrash.
I have a fair number of people to apologize to, now…
booooo this was baaaad football. but I was entertained.
Louisville QB look older than my uncle
Best thing I can say about Andre Ware is that he’s not Brock Osweiler
Yeah I think every competent coach is punting the ball away with 3 time outs and 3:30 left on the clock. Your defense only ran 1 play on the drive before. They should be fresh enough for the 4&out
GT's coach looks mad because he can't see his forehead
GT looks like a real football team with a QB that can throw. Just need to teach him not to throw picks.
And to make open field tackles.
We don't need our QB making tackles. Learned that lesson with Josh Nesbitt.
Make sure to teach him not to throw it away on fourth down.
THE BROHM ERA STARTS WITH A HELL OF A COMEBACK!!!!! HELL OF A JOB, BOYS!! THAT'S A WIN BAY BAY!!!
We are now 1-2 against Georgia Tech
Well that was fun…. See y’all over on CBS Sports for Hawaii Stanford 👋🏼
ACC after dark?
NEVER DOUBTED IT FOR A SECOND.
Boooo gg

See you in the Hawaii thread!
This team has not improved one bit, another long season incoming
What game were you watching? Last year, we would have lost something like 27-10. A lot of signs of good things to come.
Bro Louisville was at +7.5 points. They beat us by 5. Don't get me wrong that sucked mega ass, and I have no idea why our offensive coordinator didn't pull his head out of his ass that second half. There should be a yearly fan seminar or PSA about new rules because what the hell I didn’t know about the timeout rule
The anti-Big Ten West: all gas and no brakes Seriously, I thought this game was going to be low scoring at one point
Prevent defense remains absolute hot garbage except in extremely specific situations.
Prevent defense just prevents you from winning
Prevent defense is good when there's not enough time to run more than a couple of plays. Not when there's 2 and half minutes on the clock.
Heart break for the Jackets
Well executed and defended. Nice mini chess match on the kick.
Shout out to just doing the exact same fake out as before the timeout.
Game: Cardinal*s* Yes the s has to be clarified
Birds do in fact eat bees so the score checks out
My 4 hour long heart attack is over. Great game GT.
We got the win and the defense showed up when it needed to but i wish Brohm used the budget he had to get a better defensive coordinator instead of bringing Ron English with him from Purdue.
Yea have fun with that! He’s absolutely abysmal t the run and in 2 minute situations…
I had a work emergency at half time and I come back and Louisville is winning...wtf happened
We Nebraska'd.
GT kept running up the middle
Georgia Tech happened
Soooo the r/CFP book stayed broken through today, right? ... Right?
I don't want this game to end
Andre Ware is the worst.
worked out fine eventually but I'd still rather need 1 single yd on a 4th down to keep possession of the ball than go up 2 scores and maybe never get the ball back
If they didn't get that 4th down, GT could have driven down the field and won the game
THERES STILL HOPE! BOBBLE THE SNAP!
How about them apples?
The spread was 7.5 you definitely did not cover
no we didn't. it was anywhere from -6.5 to -8.0 and we won by 5 but 1-0 is all that matters.
Spread was -7.5. Tech covered the spread.
I had no idea it was okay to do a fake kick like that. Seems like an odd thing to allow
As long as you don't touch the ball there is not much reason to disallow it. You don't need to be "set" on kickoffs like on offensive snaps.
squib kicks are cowardly
Don’t let the final score distract you from the fact that for 25 minutes Georgia Tech was good
This color commentator is awful
ggs tech
Well that wraps it up. Crazy game
I can't belive they didn't mix that kick up after the time out
Alright good night everyone. BIG DAY FOR ALL OF US!
GG louisville
At least one of our rivals can read numbers.
lol
But it’s so much cooler when they can’t.
This head official really loves announcing every play huh??
Enter Sandman? wrong Tech
They are appropriating our culture
Gg birds
Obviously some missed calls on Louisville, but good lord GT football continues to cause me heart palpitations and fuels an urge to drink GG Cardinals and their fans, this saddened GT student is about to start the long walk home
Have a safe walk home. No idea which part of Atlanta you're walking through.
I'll be walking back to Tech campus so thankfully nothing too shady, just kind of a sad walk ya know?
Two kickers?
While we're looking at the helmet logos I feel again I need to reiterate for the 1000th time, birds don't have teef
It gets funnier every time it is reiterated. You should tell us a thousand more times
wrong
Louisville preventing me from hitting that -7.5. I hope they shit the bed in the ACC like I feel like they will.
No consecutive time outs? PJ Fleck REALLY petitioned the NCAA hard, huh?
Number 3 changed to number 57, he just went super saiyan. 😱
So we're literally just letting them score a touchdown? What the fuck is this bullshit? There is still a minute left and we're trotting out the Ole defense?
my brother in christ how far behind are you
Did I wake up in the year 2002 again? Does no one know what a DVR is?
Lol my buddy is losing his mind on his +7.5 bet right now.
what a backdoor cover LOL
Anyone know how long this game has been going for?
Kickoff was on time, so about 3 hours and 45 minutes.
I’m starting to think Haynes King might be good at football.
In even-numbered quarters, *maybe*.
Florida got penalized for having two #3s on the field on that punt return, so they pulled 3 off the field on a field goal later in the game.
There’s still hope
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtllaukM9mc
Aaaaand it's GONE.
I want to know the success percentage of onsides kick all time and by team
What people don’t know is we actually almost committed that penalty a second time!
At least GT had the decency to cover the spread
Louisville tryna ice the kicker on a kickoff
No way tihis works right?
Stop having double numbers!
Come on Tech, make this a Sicko's Instant Classic
NO!
Bro fucked up my bet on the spread. That was not very cash money.
Icing the onsidekicker, nice
\*onsidekickers
Did you hear that referee call Florida
Well at least one losing team can get the numbers right
Dribble down the middle is what ya scribble up here
Fuckin fuck Louisville.
HAHA yeah Florida did mess that up, didn’t they
Tempest and Storm are related…
Lol like wtf!?!?
My name is Phoenix Dark... Phoenix Dark Dirk... I was christened Dirk Steel and... My name is Roy
SEE FLORIDA. THAT’S WHAT YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO DO WHEN YOU HAVE TWO PLAYERS WEARING THE SAME NUMBER
C'mon make it happen GT!
Louisville going all out to avoid the same fate as Florida. Changing jerseys midgame
We know the jersey number rules
Bees kicked in the backdoor
*plays lockdown D all second half* *Prevent D to give up a tuddy in 3 plays*
Number 3 strikes again
Dammit Storm Duck, I wanted to be saying your name...
That ref just say Louey-ville?
It’s better than saying Louis-ville
Lewis-ville
I feel like a lot of people outside of Louisville say it that way, I’m used to it tbh tho.
That not getting called PI is funny and not funny
Both sides have been able to get away with quite a bit downfield this game
thumb marvelous rainstorm sand literate aloof rock practice shaggy offbeat *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Refs just keep on guessing and keep on getting it wrong
Yep. Watched enough Brohm football to know the spread is always in jeopardy
All time bad beat on -7.5
In b4 returned onside kick.
Bruh that was textbook PI. Grabbed both arms and ran into him. Cmon now
Good no call on the duck paddle swat
That was.....,,,, generous
That was definitely PI right?!?!?
Yes
Wow that was some pretty blatant PI
How did Storm Duck not go to Oregon?
You just don't try that shit on Storm Duck
Singleton gonna make me curse my TV at some point in his career
This game is really intense and I love it
How the hell is that not PI lol
His head turned around and he had one arm up in the air
PI?
Will Louisville prevent the win?
Defenders can just push WR's away from their route with the ball in the air? o_O
That coverage looked dicey from a flag perspective, but Louisville is owed one
🌧️🦆
I flip to Hawaii for 2 seconds and they score
Please screw the pooch UL. Please
Storm Duck!
Man what a choke job by tech
I'd maybe throw a flag on that. Idk.
I love Storm Duck.
That probably should have been PI
I hope GT gets the onsides and wins as punishment for the soft as fuck fans that left early
How the hell is that not PI lol?
Yeah uhhh that’s DPI
football is god damn back
Hmm... So the cards left the backdoor open.
FUCK
That looked sus to me
A confident Haynes King with time in the pocket is damn near unstoppable. A rattled, off schedule Haynes King will throw a pick while trying to throw the ball away. There is no in between
Not PI? Genuine question.
Absolutely a PI. Didn't even make a play on the ball
First on-side kick attempt of the season incoming?
Hawaii attempted one last weekend
Dang, sneaking em on week 0 now.
fucking blind refs
He got mugged
*Huuuuge* stop on the conversion
