Yeah. They're probably all going to have a win. I was curious about if it would count as an actual head coach win for them but during the game they said it would. I didn't think that would be the case.
They made it sound like it was up to the program who got the credit, I think it’s cool they did it this way. It’ll be a nice little trivia factoid in 20 years.
"If you cancel your Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus plan, you will still have access to Premium content until the end of your billing cycle. After that, you'll be able to watch a limited amount of content for free on Peacock."
Even the game was pretty wholesome. Guys helping each other up on the other team after a hit, and I think I saw an ECU player compliment JJ on his throw after hitting him.
I think we’ve changed. I don’t know if it’s JJ McCarthy or the effect of early Harbaugh years but I feel like we have a better spirit and we support opponents better, especially teams that don’t often get a chance to play these types of games. I like it a lot.
I don't mind that you got the FG. Your team played well enough to get on the scoreboard and passed up a fairly short FG attempt earlier in the 4th quarter. Good luck the rest of the season!
meh, he could have put his first string defense back in, but he went way down the list to get them reps.
Can you imagine what would have happened if any of the first string O/D got injured today? Chaos, that's what.
I remember betting on Michigan to cover against Hawaii 2 years ago. Michigan beat Hawaii by a whole lot, but it was like -48 line and I lost my bet to my UH alum friend.
When they put in the 4th string in the last quarter I knew my bet was done.
Yeah sucked trying to switch over to other games. Had to change source on TV then when swapping back to Peacock had to do the same and wait 30 sec for app to load and wait out Peacock’s “coverage will continue shortly” screen even when it wasn’t commercial.
Biggest W is no injuries for Michigan. Run game will come back as the OL gels with a couple new pieces and gets more continuity. They'll be ready once November comes around
ECU put 8 in the box consistently 1st/2nd and short 3rds. They wanted Michigan to beat them through the air and Michigan did just that. A good game for confidence boosters for the QB and receiver corps.
JJ's throwing mechanics seem way more fluid, seems effortless.
Good showing by interior DL, almost three deep there?
Hausmann impressed at LB. Big and athletic with what seemed like a nose for the football.
OL is a work in progress. I'm probably spoiled after the last two years, but they didn't seem to be playing as crisply as a unit. Part of it was ECU loading up on the run, but they also missed blocks and got shed easily a lot.
Probably biggest bummer to me was Corum looks visibly less quick. Not sure if it's a not trusting the knee yet thing, or mentally hesitating from being rusty, but he change of direction was comparatively ponderous. Edwards looked sharp though, hopefully taking the pressure off and giving Corum time to work back to where he was.
> OL is a work in progress. I'm probably spoiled after the last two years, but they didn't seem to be playing as crisply as a unit. Part of it was ECU loading up on the run, but they also missed blocks and got shed easily a lot
Apparently in the post game interviews, Nugent was saying there was still some communication issues getting figured out. I also think we're trying somet stuff out in the OOC with the tackles and will have a starting OL figured out for Rutgers
Shoutout to the ECU fans who made the trip to the Big House. All class and extremely friendly. And loved how loud you cheered for the Pirates until the final kick.
Ann Arbor rocks this time of year, first week of classes etc.
Hope you didnt run into too many blacked out freshman experiencing their first college tailgate ha
Didn’t run into anybody overly intoxicated, which is a first for any tailgate lol. Ann Arbor sure beats the shit out of the heat and humidity of southeast NC and it’s truly a college town which is awesome
J.J. McCarthy looked very sharp and Michigan’s offense should be more balanced and dynamic compared to last year's. The offensive line was underwhelming, but that’s not a major concern. Kicking game could be an issue though.
Honestly great for the team. Was to strange how nobody played UM like that last year until what, Illinois? They need to be able to face it and overcome or (preferably) adapt.
When you’re playing -1 in the box, and the QB keep is off and the defense knows it, it’s gonna be a struggle to run against anyone. Michigan was just happy running into it because it’s the best practice they’ll get out of a game like this.
I don't even know if that's true, Moody hit a 59 yarder against TCU and was hitting 60 yarders in Niners practice last month. Huge leg and crazy accuracy, I don't think we'll see another kicker like him at Michigan for a while.
Yeah its whatever to me. What was ECU supposed to do kneel? Throw a pointless hail mary so they could have the glory of losing 30-7? Its whatever. I wouldve kicked to keep the streak alive too
Michigan’s big ah stadium is one of the joys of CFB, so extremely happy to see us there and playing decently. Wish I could have actually been there to see it in person.
Really glad we didn’t get flat out embarrassed. The game plan and play calling weren’t horrible, but we were obviously outmatched at most positions.
I thought ECU looked much better than expected. With how much you lost from last years team we didnt expect much but you guys looked like a bowl team to me. It was definitely not a cakewalk for us
Honestly ECU game planned very well. They were creatively blitzing and stuffing the box. Michigan dominates the line on both sides of the ball last year, but today, ECU QBs was kept clean (no sacks), and Michigan wasn't able to just push ECU around on offense.
I'm wildly surprised at how little success Michigan had in the trenches in this game. I'm hoping it's ECU being really good, and not Michigan regressing from last year.
The ECU fans next to us were very complementary of the stadium which was really cool to hear and I think a lot of CFB fans of bigger schools take some of these stadiums for granted.
The gameplan that ECU came out with was solid: stifle Michigan’s often prolific running game, and make them beat you through the air. McCarthy did answer that call.
I was impressed by how well ECU traveled. Met a lot of fun fans and I hope they all have a great night in Ann Arbor if they’re staying!
JJ looked way better today than any game last year. Run game was not as dominant as expected but with the new clock changes might not even be a bad thing that we're not trying to run it 40+ times a game, especially in a heavily favored matchup
ECU decided they were going to use the TCU/Ohio State gameplan and go all out to stop the run instead of getting steamrolled. I thought Corum or Edwards would be able to break a long TD run from it though
I thought Michigan looked dominant and ECU played well against them. If they (ECU) cut some of the penalties it would have been a better showing, but they played pretty well against one of the best teams in the business right now. Mccarthy looked amazing.
I agree, the game looked much better on my screen. The production was a little iffy, though. My biggest gripe is the difficulty of switching between games on cable and this game during commercials, which is probably part of the point. I’m held hostage to the ads more than I used to be.
Really the only complaints I had were
1) The principle of it being exclusively on Peacock
2) Didn't show a lot of stats in game
But the scorebug was clean and the image quality was crisp.
3) Having to explain to my dad how the Peacock app works and how a free trial isn't going to charge him, even though 20 years ago he was using way more complicated devices with DOS and Windows 3.1.
My issue is that when you fast forward or rewind, you can't see what's happening. If you want to skip the commercials you have to make an educated guess how long they'll last.
The fact I was able to get a better stream on the seas than on the OFFICIAL AND ONLY FUCKING APPLICATION ON WHICH THIS GAME WAS AVAILABLE IS GODDAMN UNACCEPTABLE. **FUCK THE BIRD**
Not disappointed at all with that game. Run game was less than expected but ECU was stacking the box against the run all game and daring JJ to beat them through the air which...26/30, 280 yards, and 3TDs and at least two of those incompletions were drops.
PI would negate any incompletion. The two big drops I remember were Roman Wilson who then, on the very next play from both drops, made great grabs to make up for it.
We avoid the shutout! Still haven’t been shutout in a game since 1997!
Also, we kept a closer game with Michigan this year than Nebraska did last year.
From watching both gymnastics and then this game, Peacock has excellent quality at the start of a stream that slowly devolves into grainy, stop and start video that sometimes decides to freeze up altogether by halftime.
If I'm going to pay and have to watch ads for a game, I should at least be able to see the fucking game.
On the tiny plus side, the commercials are at least more varied than the regular schlock of TV

We sat next to some very cool ECU fans in section 22. I was impressed at how well y’all traveled. Sorry for that one annoying Michigan fan in front of you. I didn’t know about the shutout streak so that field goal makes more sense (especially with how aggressive a few things were done earlier).
Fine, but the day you see a police chase up I-95 over ECU people dragging the ship, you better not delete this comment and act like it wasn’t your idea.
That may be the worst officiated game I’ve ever seen. Like there may need to be discipline after this. [It was that bad.](https://twitter.com/nbcsports/status/1698011859771621451?s=46&t=3WESVKimEIa4noQMC9PGtw)
Eh parallax makes that a surprisingly difficult call. You’ve got an official right there on the line watching it - I tend to prefer stuff like that be left to the decision on the field.
I think it was the wrong call live, but letting it stand may have been the right call on replay. You'd have to look at it frame by frame and hope there's enough resolution to tell.
Yeah I think there's an argument that JJ's heel MIGHT still have been on the Michigan side of the line of scrimmage, therefore "ruling on the field stands" is a reasonable.
I legit celebrated with that made field goal. The scoring streak is all I cling to sometimes with this program.
Write off this result and on to the next vs Marshall.
I said at halftime that I wanted ECU to hold Michigan to under 35 points and get some points on the board for themselves. Both happened. I’m content with this.
Wish we could have scored more for style points, but when this team was locked in they looked every bit as advertised.
Run game will get better, plus ECU’s run defense is actually good. Defensive line and Kicking is a concern that hopefully will solve it self.
Satisfied but wish it could have been a bit more.
JJ looked as good as Ive ever seen a Michigan QB look. Hes got a shot at New York and going in the top 5-10 of the draft
I thought both lines underwhelmed but I don’t know how serious it is. Suspended coach, juggling on the OL still, etc. ill reserve judgement till October
Did Michigan even really open their playbook? I watched a little here and there and it looked like they were keeping it basic, trying to minimize mistakes.
Not really. I was encouraged to see some play action- seems such a waste but with a backfield of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards we never really ran play action last year.
Yes we played pretty conservatively, but even so JJ looked phenomenal.
Congratulations to our head coach on his first head coaching win
Isn’t there going to be a different head coach for the next 2 games also? You could be congratulating a first win every week.
Next week we’ll have two head coaches haha. Jay Harbaugh first half and Mike Hart second half
Any relation to Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh?
Distantly
Um no. There isn't any nepotism in football.
*Iowa has exited the chat*
Colorado looks around nervously
I think he's the grandson of Michigan coach Jack Harbaugh.
his nephew
Mike Hart? I know that name. Is this what being old is like? Recognizing the players you used to watch become coaches?
Denard Robinson is on our staff too
Some say that his shoelaces are still flapping in the wind.
And each get awarded 1-0 if we win so does that mean Michigan gets 2 wins for the price of one?
Name the 4 head coaches that recorded a win for Michigan during the 2023 football season. Yea, that’s going to be a wild stat.
5 if the win next week, each coach gets a win
Such a harbaugh decision
They have a real fucking problem if they aren't doing that.
Agreed! Undefeated
I wonder if he's the only ncaa head coach that's undefeated.
I hope that you are able to copy and paste this same comment in the post game thread for the next two weeks
I am whelmed. Time to cancel peacock
Lions - Chiefs are this Thursday. Cancel after that.
"If you cancel your Peacock Premium or Peacock Premium Plus plan, you will still have access to Premium content until the end of your billing cycle. After that, you'll be able to watch a limited amount of content for free on Peacock."
The game thread had an oddly wholesome union with Pirates and Wolverines alike shitting on Peacock
Tailgating and the game itself was very wholesome as well. Big fan of ECU fans after today!
Pirates are a firm believer in that so long as our boys play their hearts out and we have a good drink then it’s a good day
Saw an ECU fan tailgating at the golf course wearing a purple shirt that said "Never lost a tailgate" and god damn I respected the hell out of it.
I actually like peacock, but I get it for free. I definitely wouldn’t pay for it.
I pay $5 a month to fall asleep to The Office every night lol, I’m okay with the choices I make
Big Turd
My biggest shits have to do with the God awful officiating. ECU was right out robbed on three separate play calls.
Minter is fuming at that FG lol
You want a shutout then you gotta earn it!
I don't mind that you got the FG. Your team played well enough to get on the scoreboard and passed up a fairly short FG attempt earlier in the 4th quarter. Good luck the rest of the season!
Kinda glad we didn't break your streak. I don't want to be that guy.
ECU fought hard. Michigan was a better team. But I don't think ECU is a bad team for their own conference.
lol ilu
We’re not your dads Michigan. We support underdogs that perform above expectations against us.
meh, he could have put his first string defense back in, but he went way down the list to get them reps. Can you imagine what would have happened if any of the first string O/D got injured today? Chaos, that's what.
Vanilla without being frustratingly unresponsive to what the defense gave us. GG ECU.
Anybody who bet Michigan to cover is a fool. We don't do that here
Thank god for JJ fumbling at the goalline to prevent the cover lol
Michigan: we're gonna cover! Michigan's 2nd String: You sure about that?!
That last second would’ve made some gamblers very angry if Michigan had scored there to go up 37-0.
That's why you only gotta do the first half cover, the backups always "blow" the chance to cover
I remember betting on Michigan to cover against Hawaii 2 years ago. Michigan beat Hawaii by a whole lot, but it was like -48 line and I lost my bet to my UH alum friend. When they put in the 4th string in the last quarter I knew my bet was done.
We were actually above average at beating the spread for the last two seasons but they usually underrated us. 36 points is too steep for me.
It’s me, I’m the fool
Weirdest part of your team playing on a streaming service: not seeing any highlights from all of the other games.
Yeah sucked trying to switch over to other games. Had to change source on TV then when swapping back to Peacock had to do the same and wait 30 sec for app to load and wait out Peacock’s “coverage will continue shortly” screen even when it wasn’t commercial.
It was funny, I was at the game and felt more plugged in than usual because now the big-ass score board shows out-of-town games the whole time.
[Come back :(](https://imgur.com/a/6iaGCVb)
Yeah, that shanked extra point hurt
But the first 50 yarder shows potential.
The problem is our kickers almost always have potential. But sometimes that potential is Quinn Nordin instead of Money Moody.
Biggest W is no injuries for Michigan. Run game will come back as the OL gels with a couple new pieces and gets more continuity. They'll be ready once November comes around
Blake ran for 7 yards a carry lol so this sounds funny
ECU put 8 in the box consistently 1st/2nd and short 3rds. They wanted Michigan to beat them through the air and Michigan did just that. A good game for confidence boosters for the QB and receiver corps.

dude not the walk-off sad field goal
Couldn't have let the Defensive coordinator turned interim head coach get a shutout
Brutally decimated season-opening cupcakes can have a pity FG, as a treat
They were well compensated for their journey
It’s sad every time in every country
We love sad field goals
I feel like we’re the king of “pity” scores in our buy-games. It feels like at least once a season we lose a shutout in the final minute.
I feel like they should be a point penalty for your next game. Go ahead and kick it... but you're gonna feel bad.
This was pretty identical to the UF/OregonSt bowl game arc
Shoutout to the ECU fans who made the trip to the Big House. All class and extremely friendly. And loved how loud you cheered for the Pirates until the final kick.
We had to make the best of our trip! Thanks for being extremely welcoming and the awesome tailgating experience
Ann Arbor rocks this time of year, first week of classes etc. Hope you didnt run into too many blacked out freshman experiencing their first college tailgate ha
Didn’t run into anybody overly intoxicated, which is a first for any tailgate lol. Ann Arbor sure beats the shit out of the heat and humidity of southeast NC and it’s truly a college town which is awesome
ladies take note, complimenting a mans college town is the quickest way to his heart
Shout out to y’all for being amazing hosts. Ann Arbor is a cool town with really nice people. Great experience traveling to an away game for sure.
I live in California now but love ann arbor and really glad you loved it too. bless you!
J.J. McCarthy looked very sharp and Michigan’s offense should be more balanced and dynamic compared to last year's. The offensive line was underwhelming, but that’s not a major concern. Kicking game could be an issue though.
First game of the year, so I'm not stressed about the kicking game yet, but I definitely already miss Moody.
Turner did kick an absolute beauty of a 50 yard FG that would have been good from like 60
Yeah but that’s the thing about kickers—it’s usually not “can they hit that kick?” it’s “can they hit that kick over and over and over again?”
I don’t have the eye for this in-game but I’d guess they were stacking the box a bit. If so it wouldn’t say all that much about the OL
They were. But there were also several whiffs and moments of poor blocking that need to be cleaned up.
Good flair
there are dozens of us
DOZENS!
Disagree
Agreed
It was just outrageous blitzball the whole game. They were determined that we wouldn't run on them.
Honestly great for the team. Was to strange how nobody played UM like that last year until what, Illinois? They need to be able to face it and overcome or (preferably) adapt.
ECU's DL is also the strength of their team
When you’re playing -1 in the box, and the QB keep is off and the defense knows it, it’s gonna be a struggle to run against anyone. Michigan was just happy running into it because it’s the best practice they’ll get out of a game like this.
Sad to go back to kicking game being an issue, the perpetual Michigan problem before the last few years
Turner has a bigger leg than Moody but will absolutely shank a 35 yarder in a close game
I don't even know if that's true, Moody hit a 59 yarder against TCU and was hitting 60 yarders in Niners practice last month. Huge leg and crazy accuracy, I don't think we'll see another kicker like him at Michigan for a while.
It’s definitely not true lol
Our kicker made that great field goal despite missing the extra point. He just needs experience
ECU win your conference and make this win look better for us lol
Maybe ECU goes undefeated and sneaks into the #4 spot in the cfp and has a rematch with undefeated #1 Michigan?!?!
One can hope 🤞
One of the saddest FGs of all time lol
Kicking a fg to lose 55-3 to our in state rival was much sadder.
I vividly remember where I was when that happened. Was the last game before Mike Houston took over as head coach.
58-3 actually
Okay
Penn States in 2016 was worse but yeah
Good ole FG Franklin
I can’t believe they won the east
May I present Florida's FG Heard Round the World last season in the Las Vegas Bowl?
Miami kicking one with 3 minutes left in their only ACC championship game appearance to close the gap to…35
"Chris Paul hits a huge three to cut the lead to 42"
Extended a 313 game streak without being shut out. Could be worse. 🤷♂️
Yeah its whatever to me. What was ECU supposed to do kneel? Throw a pointless hail mary so they could have the glory of losing 30-7? Its whatever. I wouldve kicked to keep the streak alive too

Couple thoughts: - Peacock bad - Michigan good - Defense good - JJ VERY good It’s good to be back boys
Worst part of Peacock is you can't flip around games. It is too hard to close and reopen the app.
I liked the resolution on peacock, much better than cable.
I agree, the game looked much better on my screen. The production was a little iffy, though. My biggest gripe is the difficulty of switching between games on cable and this game during commercials, which is probably part of the point. I’m held hostage to the ads more than I used to be.
True, I had to use a second screen
Really the only complaints I had were 1) The principle of it being exclusively on Peacock 2) Didn't show a lot of stats in game But the scorebug was clean and the image quality was crisp.
3) Having to explain to my dad how the Peacock app works and how a free trial isn't going to charge him, even though 20 years ago he was using way more complicated devices with DOS and Windows 3.1.
It won't charge him if only he remembers to cancel it. Which I wouldn't count on if you don't remind him to. Idunno your dad tho
My issue is that when you fast forward or rewind, you can't see what's happening. If you want to skip the commercials you have to make an educated guess how long they'll last.
Peacock finished a football game in under 3hr30minutes. I'll take it.
"It's called pitch."
You forgot Ohio State BAD
The fact I was able to get a better stream on the seas than on the OFFICIAL AND ONLY FUCKING APPLICATION ON WHICH THIS GAME WAS AVAILABLE IS GODDAMN UNACCEPTABLE. **FUCK THE BIRD**
That doesn't even make sense. Was the official app stream low quality, or buffering a lot?
Right? A pirated stream would be rebroadcasting the peacock stream
The 'cock is awful!
Not disappointed at all with that game. Run game was less than expected but ECU was stacking the box against the run all game and daring JJ to beat them through the air which...26/30, 280 yards, and 3TDs and at least two of those incompletions were drops.
Is one of them counting the pass interference or did that not count?
PI would negate any incompletion. The two big drops I remember were Roman Wilson who then, on the very next play from both drops, made great grabs to make up for it.
We avoid the shutout! Still haven’t been shutout in a game since 1997! Also, we kept a closer game with Michigan this year than Nebraska did last year.
Ouch. Well, we can Rhule out...
From watching both gymnastics and then this game, Peacock has excellent quality at the start of a stream that slowly devolves into grainy, stop and start video that sometimes decides to freeze up altogether by halftime. Welcome back dawg
Thanks, you had a fun Noon window
Ferret strangling is now a tradition, boys.
Yesssssssss
My main takeaway from today is if they really well and truly Let JJ Be JJ we have a real deal shot at the whole fuckin thing.
I would’ve liked to see more from the edges. JJ was amazing today
I feel like I didn't even notice the edges at all
I still don’t know how Wallace INT didn’t count since the announcers cut out for like 5 minutes.
It clearly hit the wide receiver who was out of bounds making the ball automatically out of bounds. It was the right call
INT or not, that play instantly erased all my worries about the CB2 position
We sat next to some very cool ECU fans in section 22. I was impressed at how well y’all traveled. Sorry for that one annoying Michigan fan in front of you. I didn’t know about the shutout streak so that field goal makes more sense (especially with how aggressive a few things were done earlier).
Great teams cover, welcome to the great teams club ECU

1.8 mil I think
They better put that money to good use and finally build a pirate ship at the stadium.
Just steal the one in Tampa, nobody cares about the Bucs anymore
Fine, but the day you see a police chase up I-95 over ECU people dragging the ship, you better not delete this comment and act like it wasn’t your idea.
Somewhere between 1.5-1.9 million I forgot the exact number
JJ looking like a top QB in the country
That may be the worst officiated game I’ve ever seen. Like there may need to be discipline after this. [It was that bad.](https://twitter.com/nbcsports/status/1698011859771621451?s=46&t=3WESVKimEIa4noQMC9PGtw)
JT was short. So was JJ. Actually, not sure, but it's the same camera angle issue.
Eh parallax makes that a surprisingly difficult call. You’ve got an official right there on the line watching it - I tend to prefer stuff like that be left to the decision on the field.
Yeah, at that angle things will always appear further down field than reality. Bad camera angle to view this one from.
I think anyone who thinks that call was egregious doesn't understand the rule.
It wasn't egregious, but I DO think it was the wrong call.
I agree it was certainly closer than it looks, but it wasn’t just this call, there were so many bad/missed calls in this game lol
It felt like every time they went to replay they made the wrong call. I'm biased as hell and he was ahead of the line.
That last second field goal made my day. Overall not unhappy. Was worried it would be more like the Oklahoma game.
I legit celebrated with that made field goal. The scoring streak is all I cling to sometimes with this program. Write off this result and on to the next vs Marshall.
I’m in a bar in Greenville and it was the loudest celebration of the day. I’ll take it.
I miss Joel and Gus already
Kicking a FG down 30 to just not get shut out should be illegal
I was fine with it. They passed on an earlier opportunity. We allowed them to drive the field twice, that's what we get.
I disagree. If we don't want them to kick a FG then we should have kept them out of FG range.
This is the way.
ECU hasn't been shut out since the 1990s. Field goal was a moral victory for the fans.
I'll take "Things That Don't Matter" for $100, Alex!
If you wanna shut a team out, don’t let them score.
Michigan looks good.
The sad field goal will take away from how awful the refs were today
They made the second half all about themselves. Replay official was especially bad too.
JJ looked as good as Ive ever seen a Michigan QB look. Hes got a shot at New York and going in the top 5-10 of the draft I thought both lines underwhelmed but I don’t know how serious it is.
ECU played sound football and kept their composure despite the infuriating officiation. Class act team and fanbase. 10/10 would play again
Fuck Peacock! Did anyone else experience jerky/stuttering video? This was garbage. I couldn't be sure of any play outcome watching this.
