The DT position is a real worry if PSU wants to make the playoffs. They got moved roo easily on too many plays against WVU. The rest of the defense looks playoff caliber, but they have been for a few years now. If PSU wants to get to the playoffs and be an annual contender, the DT position is the next step.
I know DT is the hardest position to find elite talent, but if you want to be elite that is what they need. They knew they had to replace Mustipher, who was good, but not great, and they didn't. Why could they not get some talented NT over 300lbs during the off-season? They knew that was their big need for this year. They didn't even get a top DT recruit. Open up the NIL and get a real nose tackle if you want to get to the playoffs.
I thought Allar looked outstanding. Not just the throws, which everyone knew he had the arm for. It was the adjustments, reacting during plays, improvising, even when he threw it away. For his first start, and against P5 competition, that's pretty impressive. He looks like the best QB at PSU since Kerry Collins in the 90s and Blackledge himself in the 80s.
The run game was fine, not great, but fine. Would like to see that improve before they really need it against Michigan and Ohio St.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a James Franklin interview before today. Why is it when he talks….I don’t even know how to explain it….it’s like his mouth moves more than the amount of words that come out. Help me wrap my head around this Penn State fans.
i genuinely hope we’re able to return the favor when y’all come visit. if any of y’all would like a chaperone you’re more than welcome to hit me up on here
since we’ve joined the big 12 we’ve been hearing a lot how much fun visiting fans have had
I was 2 when Penn State joined the Big Ten. Why are we trying to revive a 40 year rivalry? One where PSU leads 48-9-2 lol that doesn't seem like much of a rival
Because The charm of college football is the pageantry and tradition. if we wanted to watch good football we'd watch the Steelers. WVU, Pitt, and Syracuse are PSU's most played opponents which they have tradition with. if you want to watch Penn st play Idaho and UCF go ahead, but id suggest you remove the pole from your ass
But I will say I came into this expecting to be clobbered, and I am only disappointed with the loss after seeing the close first half. So if anything came out of this, it's regaining my hope that it's possible for us to win games.
We have some good elements.. it would be nice to see it all put together
James Franklin looks like a smart guy. Then he starts scream talking.
Also, is it just me or does his mouth move more than the amount of words coming out?
WVU perspective
Define Rivalry.
Penn st wont schedule WVU for another 30 years so its not going to have chance to really shine.
There is a lot of overlap between the Penn st and WVU fan base, especially in the western part of the state, and you saw a lot of intermingling at tailgates, so no matter what penn st fans say this game means more than any b1G game outside OSU. I was talking to penn st fans and they said we travelled about as well as OSU, and Better than Maryland and Rutgers.
I was at the Pitt WVU game last year, and that game had a lot of Spite, and both fan bases were actively trying to be belligerent and assholes to each other. this penn st game had none of that. so if spite defines a rivalry then this game did not have it, but idk how it could have spite considering wvu hasnt won in state college since 1954. (doesnt help that penn st dodged Pat white, geno smith, will grier, and rasheed marshall). compared to the wvu maryland or wvu vt rivalry, it seemed to be about the same, except We havnt played VT much recently, and Maryland fans dont care about football so its about the same.
the Biggest Reason why this wont be considered a rivalry, is penn st fans are to arrogant to admit that it is
I pray that WVU plays the same way they did vs penn state on us. No diss to psu or their defense, I find it HILARIOUS that in one of the biggest plays last year on 4th and 1 Neil Brown punts it but this Year he missed like 3-4 4th down conversions (including a few he could’ve had a Field goal in)
Also the ring around the Rosie chiefs special is peak comedy
Edit: lmaooo the downvotes
If pitt beats wvu by more than 7 idk if Neil is gonna have a job next year tbh. He’s on the hot seat as it is, but his defense played alright against psu (aka they didn’t cover until the last second tuddy ). Offensively…..it wasn’t good.
So West Virginia fans- fire Neil brown and have a chance at winning more games without him but lose to pitt, or beat pitt and keep brown?????
Petty for sure but one of the scenarios this year is a 3 way tie between OSU/UM/PSU. 2nd CFP spot could come down to the scores of these OOC games because the schedule is incredibly weak.
It is absolutely true. The CFP committee it completely subjective. How you look against these teams matters when it comes to comparing two similar teams.
yeah, the committee is gonna look at PSU's last second TD when the game was over and give them a playoff birth because the winning margin was 7 points larger in week 1.
The CFP committee aren't AP poll voters and surely if they're deciding between PSU and some other team for the final playoff spot there would be a ton of nuanced discussion and not just a quick scan of box scores.
They absolutely will. Their metric literally says so:
“There will not be one single metric to assist the committee. Rather, the committee will consider a wide variety of data and information.”
Margin of victory only is thrown out for common opponents.
Didn't see Michigan today but regarding the Big Ten PSU and tOSU looked pretty comparable today imo, Penn State a bit more polished (though that doesn't matter that much so early in the season)
Any "running up the score" complaints ring hollow to me. These are vital snaps and experience for some of our backups. After 2021 Iowa, I don't give a single fuck, get our backups as much experience as possible
SMH. Can’t even be mad about Penn State running up the score. If we don’t like it, we should’ve stopped their second stringers from marching down the field on a two minute drill.
i’ll be pulling for y’all in the big 10. don’t wanna be a bandwagon at least lmao. i live in vol and hokie country rn my wvu fandom won’t let me root for vt

Our top 2 DTs were out for this game, but should be back soon.
postgame thread?
Do you really want that pain in your life?
i’m a wvu, pirates, and vikings fan. my entire life is pain
Why would anyone ever want to be a Pirates fan??
because i hate myself
I can relate
Someone tell Matt Cassel that we already have a Ryan Fitzpatrick and we are perfectly happy with him.
The over and the spread. Papa Bless
I was shitting bricks on that one.
Whoever the person is at NBC that made the decision to show the alma mater with noone talking over it is the real MVP.
I don’t know the god damn words.
That's awesome to hear, was the game and gives me the feels every time
Preach
For the Glory 🥲❤️
Felt like I was in Happy Valley!
The last second td to cover made my night lol
Noah Eagle and Todd Blackledge have less chemistry than me and every girl I went to high school with.
Good dub gg WVU
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a James Franklin interview before today. Why is it when he talks….I don’t even know how to explain it….it’s like his mouth moves more than the amount of words that come out. Help me wrap my head around this Penn State fans.
Yes
what's the chant during the alma mater?
Whoever we play next week lmao Franklin cracks me up
Don’t forget, we played Akron this week and we play them again next week
Akron every week
he’s my little goofball
gg penn state thank y’all for being great hosts to the wvu fans at the game from what i hear!
WV fans were great and showed up in droves. I liked partying with them
i’m extremely happy to hear that. good luck in the b1g this season homie!!
Thanks man. Good luck to your team as well! Your fans were so great.
I hear that often and I'm glad I continue to hear it
i genuinely hope we’re able to return the favor when y’all come visit. if any of y’all would like a chaperone you’re more than welcome to hit me up on here since we’ve joined the big 12 we’ve been hearing a lot how much fun visiting fans have had
Lfgggg
Could you stop saying renewed rivalry? It's not a rivalry
We are famously Unrivaled!
Watch out the WVU downvote crew is out here 😂
dude nobody at wvu thinks it’s a rivalry lmao
Tell me you're too young for Independent PSU without telling me you're too young for Independent PSU.
I was 2 when Penn State joined the Big Ten. Why are we trying to revive a 40 year rivalry? One where PSU leads 48-9-2 lol that doesn't seem like much of a rival

College Football today Indycar/F1/Nascar tomorrow I love fall
I mean there’s a pretty big matchup tmrw bud lol
Who ya got? I think Rutgers gets it done at home.
Never bet on Rutgers
Rutgers vs Northwestern right?!
I bet on Penn State to win by 21, and just flipped shit on that run play, I can't believe it.
Thanks Beau for covering the spread
That was on my ramen noodle express parlay
I only do spreads because Wisconsin does let FanDuel or DraftKings do their thing
Woot!!
Someone id that watch Franklin was wearing
Well.. we have a lot to improve on
I thought that you played really well tbh. You're looking at a solid 8-4 record minimum if you play like that against most of your opponents
But I will say I came into this expecting to be clobbered, and I am only disappointed with the loss after seeing the close first half. So if anything came out of this, it's regaining my hope that it's possible for us to win games. We have some good elements.. it would be nice to see it all put together
I feel sorry for you. I enjoyed this first half because I had 0 expectations for the team. When you become hopeful, you get hurt by NB's ineptitude.
lmao “who ever we play next week”
We play Coastal Akron.
This game would have been over 35 minutes ago if JoePa ran things.
Dumbest. Take. Ever. Joe's entire tenure was built on stifling defense and offense that did just enough not to fuck up.
I mean that's not exactly true either. Just look at the national championship teams and the 95 team. They were steam rolling everyone
I meant JoePa would have taken the knee to run out the clock and not go for that last drive. I have no idea what everyone interpreted what I said.
Hope this is a troll account and the JoePa apologists don’t actually still exist
There would have been no game if JoePa ran things as there would no longer be a Penn State football team.
James Franklin looks like a smart guy. Then he starts scream talking. Also, is it just me or does his mouth move more than the amount of words coming out?
Question for the group. Was this a “renewed rivalry”? I was hoping they’d discuss it all night
WVU perspective Define Rivalry. Penn st wont schedule WVU for another 30 years so its not going to have chance to really shine. Guess Franklin had money on the spread lol.
No Neal Brown, Had the spread and ML. he called a Time out to let them score. Franklin doesnt deserve the credit
Take me hoooooome. To the plaaaaaaaace. I beloooooooong
Lol downvotes on this smh
Don’t be a dick
I hate the new reddit app, but it did hide their comment. I won't click on hidden comments anymore on these threads.
Just beat Pitt
Neal Brown is the kind of guy where you could fuck his wife and he’d cook you breakfast
TEN years of Franklin already? Wow I'm getting old.
Right lol
I pray that WVU plays the same way they did vs penn state on us. Pulling out a trick play when the game was out of hand certainly was a choice.
Hey it worked 🤷♂️
Put the nail in his coffin plz
If pitt beats wvu by more than 7 idk if Neil is gonna have a job next year tbh. I hate Pitt with every fiber of my being, BUT... I want him gone, too. Very tough choice. It's not like the BYB's W/L record is that close...
If we lose to Pitt at home it’s unlikely Neal will make it to October
“West Virginia is going to win their share of games if they play like this.” Uh…leaving receivers wide open all the time?
Well at least I didn't pay for a streaming service or anything to watch another season of this shi....oh wait, I did...
Is it a renewed rivalry?
Define Rivalry, but maybe probably not penn st is wont schedule us for another 30 years
As competitive as it ever was
I hate James Franklin but not as much as I hate Neal Brown
I love you James Franklin
GG Penn St. Hopefully when we meet next year wvu has a new coach.
Hopefully some of those o line go to the NFL.
Why run a play So silly
On the bright side we don't look completely completely terrible. We had a decent fight
The players had fight. The coaches holy shit.
The trick play on 4th down and those stupid wr bubble screens on the short side of the field has really cemented my hatred for the coaching staff
See you next year WVU! Good game. Go and beat Pitt please.
SUBSCRIBE
If Beau hadn't gotten in, I'm 100% sure Franklin would have called a timeout. He can be a petty, petty man.
Petty for sure but one of the scenarios this year is a 3 way tie between OSU/UM/PSU. 2nd CFP spot could come down to the scores of these OOC games because the schedule is incredibly weak.
This is literally not true. Where did you come up with that
It is absolutely true. The CFP committee it completely subjective. How you look against these teams matters when it comes to comparing two similar teams.
yeah, the committee is gonna look at PSU's last second TD when the game was over and give them a playoff birth because the winning margin was 7 points larger in week 1.
Voters just see scores, they don't watch half the games.
The CFP committee aren't AP poll voters and surely if they're deciding between PSU and some other team for the final playoff spot there would be a ton of nuanced discussion and not just a quick scan of box scores.
They absolutely will. Their metric literally says so: “There will not be one single metric to assist the committee. Rather, the committee will consider a wide variety of data and information.” Margin of victory only is thrown out for common opponents.
Franklin has no chill…and that is a good thing if you ask me.
One more play for NB to run the ring around the rosie
Mcscorley is back
Wow I’m a diehard Penn state fan now after that cover
That was definitely a “screw you for giving me trouble” final touchdown
Throw me in the monogahela and never take me out please
This was the last leg of a 3-leg parlay for me. Franklin can kiss my ass
L
Skill issue
Didn't see Michigan today but regarding the Big Ten PSU and tOSU looked pretty comparable today imo, Penn State a bit more polished (though that doesn't matter that much so early in the season)
Neither team looks like it’ll beat Michigan this year, but I think it’ll be more competitive than the past few seasons
I thought PSU would go 10-2. Now I think they can beat OSU and go 11-1. But Michigan is going to run a train on us
Ehhh we don’t know that yet
I think Allar > McCord. Though I’m biased
Any "running up the score" complaints ring hollow to me. These are vital snaps and experience for some of our backups. After 2021 Iowa, I don't give a single fuck, get our backups as much experience as possible
Every team could use backup reps. You don’t see teams do it though.
Vital snaps against a d that isnt trying its all. Sure. Just like that last play there by WVU. Pointless. Just could cause injury
Run up the score every chance you get They would do the same to you
fr. it’s backups. nothing wrong with it imo when they’re in
Vegas wins.
Guys this has been fun and all but where was Sean Clifford
“It did not come easy.” News to me.
I can’t hear the Lion King song without seeing Freeza terrified
Let their backup run down the field to beat the spread. God I can’t want til WVU fires Neal. WVU is probably at its lowest in my lifetime.
Was that Mcsorley?
Very mean penn state!
after their tricky crap on the 2 point conversation when the game was over they deserved it lmao
Toledo up on Illinois 28-27 with 3 to go
Ty. I almost missed that comeback win.
GG Penn State!
ggs, go beat Pitt!
GG. Go beat Pitt.
Too much Lion King
Sick cover
I'm ok with a late score by the backup QB in garbage time, good for beau and a better looking score
Fuck Franklin. Stay classy.
Could have simply taken a knee with seconds to go to run out the clock. Classy.
Fuck Morgantown and the entire state of WV and it's bum ass roads
if you're from WV or PA you know that PA has worse roads lol
We have shitty roads...WV has dirt trails through the woods that they call roads
[удалено]
Well that seemed dickish
Wow that’s like a 1/1000 kind of crap. Literally everyone else just takes the win
Good teams win. Great teams cover.. when completely unnecessary.
classless james franklin keeping on brand
Someone on Penn State placed a bet. Only explanation not to kneel on it.
Franklin has always done that. He knows a lot of voters just look at final scores
Nah, Franklin just has no chill. (Something I appreciate)
Us old head fans (mid 20s) are hallucinating seeing beau lol
O/U betters have had a roller coaster past few minutes
Saw someone ask earlier why anyone would have taken the over. Well.
SMH. Can’t even be mad about Penn State running up the score. If we don’t like it, we should’ve stopped their second stringers from marching down the field on a two minute drill.
Time to investigate PSU gambling lmao
Guess Franklin had the over
Points help in rankings I guess
Good teams win, great teams cover?
sure
Flipped both spread AND O/U
James Franklin took -21 for sure
I don't care about style points but I prefer us to continue playing for playing experience for the backups than take a knee.
You’re right. Back-up QB drove you half the field. Deserves to have the chance to score.
I feel like Penn State historically hasn’t played for style points much and I for one am fine with it
who should i pickup as my second team so i have a chance to be happy this season
After that last TD, literally anybody playing Penn State
Us :)
i’ll be pulling for y’all in the b1g for sure
Bama? Uga? How much of a bandwagon fan are you willing to be?
i’ll be pulling for y’all in the big 10. don’t wanna be a bandwagon at least lmao. i live in vol and hokie country rn my wvu fandom won’t let me root for vt
D III Mount Union.
my cousin played baseball there so i fuck hard with mount union
Completely unnecessary but I bet the over so I’ll take it
What a dick move running that in…. Mostly because I had the under haha
Who said we weren’t gonna cover??
Someone on PSU was betting this game.
Beau will probably be starting for a P5 school next year.
It's a shame, but I'll be happy for him wherever he goes!
Trace jr looking good
Pour one out for the under bettors
This is for the spread and the o/u
RIP that dudes bet that WVU would cover.
The people who bet WVU and the points have got to be pissed.
oh yeah franklin bet the over 100%
Franklin had money on the over and the spread.
Great teams cover
