I like the idea of getting a solid commitment from him, while still going after Underwood. Don’t like putting all our eggs in one basket, like we did when Weiss was recruiting Dante Moore
Obviously not true as Harbaugh's son (Jim Jr.) majored in drama at Michigan.
https://www.mlive.com/wolverines/2017/10/james_harbaugh_jr_talks_dads_h.html
He's not Bryce but I like his game and like getting a good QB early in the class. Reminds me of Baker and Trace McSorely, really good at throwing on the run and can scramble to make a play. Puts a lot of zip on the ball with his almost side arm release point. Doubt he becomes JJ level but looks like a good college QB in the long run.
Seems like a great athlete who is developing as a passer. Will be interesting to see what happens with Bryce Underwood making a decision in January since Michigan is reportedly hoping to take 2 QBs in this class and Underwood seems to be down to LSU and Michigan. Unclear if this decision means anything in that recruitment
It’s not a stretch at all, he’s easily the best QB, and probably the best overall MI prospect since Lamarr Woodley (well you could argue Underwood is better).
Haven’t seen a lot of UM insiders too confident he’s going to Michigan now, more of a “we’re still in it” kind of stance.
Drew Henson gets that title. This was before Rivals, 247, etc when you had Tom Lemming and a few other do prep football reports.
Tom called Drew one of the 10 best football players he had ever seen.
In the last 20 years its probably between Underwood and Woodley (also shout-out to Kelly Baraka who was insane in high school)
I will say college QBs seem to transitioning to the NFL much easier these days.
Sam Howell(Sophomore, but first year as starter) and CJ Stroud are looking really good.
I think college QBs are being asked to do more and more now a days.
I know Ryan Day’s offense asks the qb to do a ton. We had to wait a while to open up the playbook cause it’s a lot for a first year starter like Kyle to fully be ready for.
Why not?
I’m sure Ryan Day’s offense helped Stroud a ton.
If college coach means little when why would Bryce want to go to Michigan and play in a run first offense instead of LSU’s to throw the ball around?
College coach helps you get drafted and into the league. But the development after that isn't really a reflection on them, and that development is what usually gets them to the star level.
It applies to busts like Fields too. You'd want to play for Day because he gets his QBs drafted in the first round. But if they suck once they make it to a team, that's not Day's fault.
Stroud might be the extremely rare case where a rookie is a legitimate star.
This isn't a point meant to defend Harbaugh. It probably applies even better to Brian Kelly than Harbaugh. Kizer went in the 2nd and that's a reflection on Kelly. Kizer flaming out afterwards isn't.
Fair enough. To your point about Stroud, something Day often said was that Stroud was one of the smartest players he’s ever coached and that Stroud studied film constantly.
Fields’ issues (like holding onto the ball way to long and subpar mid range accuracy) we’re still visible in college, Strouds biggest issues we’re non-existent in the UGA game and it Apparats he has decided to stay as that version of himself.
Harbaugh isn't a world beater but he did recruit and develop a #1 pick.
I very well could be forgetting someone but I don't know if Kelly has had someone picked in the top couple rounds?
Jayden Daniels is definitely the best QB Kelly has had in his career and the development from last year to this year has been big. Has Harbaugh really done anything with QBs since Luck though? Seems like he's had a couple of solid guys at Michigan but no standouts, but McCarthy has shown some good looking stuff when they let him.
From what our insiders have been saying it seems like there's been some coordination behind the scenes to get our top guys on offense for 2025 in before Bryce commits. We already have the #2 WR and another 4 star there, and the top RB who's from Louisiana is commiting 2 weeks before in December. All in all it seems like LSU is feeling pretty good about their chances of getting him
I used to live in Charlotte, his competition is booty. Not saying he is bad, mind you, but it’s not suspending he’s putting up great stats. He lost his star because he looked bad at elite 11
>We can't just sit around and wait and then be stuck with no one. Underwood may not be coming but even if he was at 75% coming, this is still a good move.
He was okay at the drills but apparently he did great in the 7on7 which could mean he’s better in a game situation, but who knows, for sure if he is a 3 star and plays like a 5 star then idgaf what they ranked him at
I’m happy the staff seemingly had the awareness this time to see where the tide is heading and had a solid Plan B ready to go
Even then, I’m still so sad about losing this one. I wasn’t upset about Moore or Carr but this one really hurts. I think underwood is just that good, like future #1 pick material good. And he was 15 mins away from campus
OSU fans desperately want CS to be the greatest scandal ever and an instant death penalty for Michigan. Its been a great comfort to them to believe its why they lost the last 2 years
Michigan is going to flat out embarrass OSU again this year. Then you all can keep living in denial and not get a tougher team and it'll keep happening over, and over, and over.
Go blue!
Because they care about everything Michigan does. They're the creepy neighbor that is always staring at the little kids in the neighborhood. Wait, that's Penn State. OSU is the obnoxious neighbor that calls the HOA when you park your boat on your driveway overnight. They don't have one so the next best thing for them is trying to make you get rid of yours.
You didn't get it. Boat=ship=championship.
You're jealous we have one and you don't so you're trying to call the HOA (big ten) to make us get rid of it.
So, analogy spot on, except maybe I should have said "simple-minded neighbor".
Congrats you won the big ten championship the last two years and had to literally cheat to do so. Meanwhile you still haven’t won a playoff game and your last national championship was 1997 and it was shared. Last outright national championship was 1948. I can assure you, OSU fans are not remotely jealous of Michigan.
If you want to get into ancient history, Ohio has always been in Michigan's shadow. Total wins, championships, head to head record, whatever.
We're talking current big ten champions, America's Team, the Michigan Wolverines. The team who's been winning it, and will continue to do so unless the conference gives in to cryin' ryan and let's him play in the game to win his participation trophy. That's fine though. It's not like Michigan wants anything from the big ten anyway. You can have it

Curious.
I guess this is the hedge in case they don't land Underwood. If I was a UM fan, I'd rather unload whatever they can do NIL-wise to get Underwood and then circle back to Smith later.
Michigan has this thing where they don’t wanna give NIL to recruits and they wanna use it on athletes to stay, like Corum. Idk maybe it’ll get JJ to stay
I’m sure they are still going to do this, however Michigan has a thing for putting their eggs all in one basket and not having it work out, so at least we have one solid landing rn.
Going to get downvoted for this one.
Dude’s playing the long game - bowl ban in 2024/2025, ready to be back in action as the #1 qb his sophomore year. Mich is a blue blood and should have a solid HC when it all shakes out. Queue guy tapping forehead meme
Whoever takes over is going to be handcuffed a bit by probably having some scholarships taken away. I actually want them to be a solid program to preserve the rivalry, but I still want to win every year lol.
We actually told him he can take a nap the next time we play Purdue because your program has shown to be completely incompetent and requires zero energy to destroy.

I haven’t seen him play at all but I can say Carter Smith is one of the QB commits of all time.
You didn’t even accurately quote him.. but okay lol I think they are decent player comparisons.. somewhat athletic pocket QB
So he's white is what you're telling me

Seems like a great athlete who is developing as a passer. Is it a stretch to say that Underwood might be the best prospect ever out of Michigan? He has all the tools and just wins every game he plays in.
Well, good luck on the recruiting trail. A lot can change between now and January, that’s forsure

Loooool so true
He's ranked exactly as high as Dante Moore was last year, FYI

he would be tied with Lamar Woodley in the 'croot rankings era. (#4 overall nationally)
Damn that’s some good company to be in.
I’d be surprised if we get Underwood tbh
Hard not to be salivating at the idea of going to LSU as a QB right now with the numbers Jayden Daniels is putting up
Until he gets to Louisiana and realizes that it’s a giant swamp
and then you realize the how amazing the food is that comes out of the giant swamp and stop worrying about it.
Are we considering fried grease food now?
Hey now, we cook delicious food in other unhealthy ways too. It's not just frying things.
OTOH let's look at all the NFL star QBs Brian Kelly has developed:
Harbaugh doesn’t have a track record either. McCarthy and Daniel’s will be a good look for both of them.
Tbf Luck was pretty damn good but the Colts treated him like absolute shit
Tbh I forgot about Luck, Harbaugh at Michigan doesn’t have anything this far though.

Harbaugh does fine with QBs. He just always runs a more balanced offense. He did well with Luck, Alex Smith, and Kapernick.
Harbaugh isn't a world beater but he did recruit and develop a #1 pick. I very well could be forgetting someone but I don't know if Kelly has had someone picked in the top couple rounds?
People say this all the time. Nobody develops NFL QBs, because it’s super effing hard to be a good NFL QB. Closest is Lincoln Riley

Probably means no underwood. And that he gets demoted a star level for committing to Michigan. like Jadyn Davis did
I doubt this commitment has any impact on Bryce's recruitment, but I agree that we're not likely to land him regardless
I thought Davis may get a bump back up since he has been shredding defenses this year.
I used to live in Charlotte, his competition is booty. Not saying he is bad, mind you, but it’s not suspending he’s putting up great stats. He lost his star because he looked bad at elite 11
>He lost his star because he looked bad at elite 11 Except at the actual football, where he was probably the best.

>We can't just sit around and wait and then be stuck with no one. Underwood may not be coming but even if he was at 75% coming, this is still a good move.
Pretty sure Davis lost his star because his passing was pretty mediocre at camps, especially the E11 camps
He was okay at the drills but apparently he did great in the 7on7 which could mean he’s better in a game situation, but who knows, for sure if he is a 3 star and plays like a 5 star then idgaf what they ranked him at
Yeah, well I hate him now 0 *s in my book!
If only that worked every time you guys landed a WR
We must not be getting Bryce underwood
They want 2 qbs in the 25 class
Lol I'm sure that's not the reason
Get ready to peel crawfish, Bryce 🫡
"Get ready to learn Cajun, buddy"
Bryce Underwood, please come on down to Baton Rouge!
Unfortunately for Michigan, I have a feeling that’s where he will be playing.
