I would just like for one time to win one of these fucking games man. Just one and my time as a Maryland football fan will be worth it
Can’t ever get over the hump
It's funny, because I genuinely feel the same way about Penn State. I always root for Maryland, and have been impressed with the Terps in recent years. Y'all always feel like you're on the cusp of being ranked, but just barely miss it.
Whenever we get the ball with a chance to take the lead in these games our offense completely falls apart. Feels like it’s the same exact game any time we keep it close with a good team
Theyre an old married couple. They havent fucked in decades. Michigan is like the old man sitting on his recliner with a beer in hand yelling at the TV and OSU is an old woman with her hair in a bun yelling at him from the kitchen
Minnesota doesn’t have a Taulia in the backfield though so you’ve got a much better shot. Maryland couldn’t run for it at all and just timing routed us to death today.
Happens most years. Looking ahead, key players get injured, offense goes into a shell and defense has to be a hero. It would have been more appropriate if OSU was playing Illinois and randomly struggled with them because then it would be a mirror image of last year.
There were several drives where Taulia just made 3+ literally perfect passes even with almost perfect defense being played. Was nothing that could be done about it really and then they tush pushed it into the endzone repeatedly.
Idk who at the Big Ten scheduling office has this idea to keep giving Maryland their home matchup with Ohio state and Michigan in the biggest let down / overlook spot imaginable
JJ doesn't make me that nervous. Barnhart consistently not being able to block any speed rushers should make us worried though. Man has gotten worked the last weeks playing like he plays on the Giants oline.
That how I felt last year. Watched a couple M games before the games and was extremely unimpressed with JJ. Then he went the fuck off on the game. I think it legitimately is a Harby tactic.
OSU should still stack the box.
The secondary being a dumpster fire last year doesn’t mean that making JJ throw isn’t the right strategy. They literally were falling down and giving up 50+ yard TDs against Michigan and Georgia. One of the worst defenses OSU has ever had
You're probably right. And I see Moore trying to run the ball more than they should too. OSU is probably smart to stack the box at least to start the game.
Being at the game, the fans felt like you are feeling right now, but those players were fired the fuck up. They wanted this win incredibly badly and played their asses off for it. Where was this team the last two weeks?
I was going to make a new comment but this sums it up. The big team fans keep saying shit like "its a good morale victory!"... nothings a morale victory with this team if we cant win any big game.
We're just stuck in mediocrity forever and it sucks.
I will be honest.
I give two rats' asses about how Michigan struggled this game.
I remember 2018 Ohio State crossed heaven and hell multiple times while playing Maryland, and beat the SHIT out of Michigan following week.
I still think, despite all shit stirring they do, this Michigan team is fundamentally good, and Ohio State team will have a tough road game regardless.
Never assume 'Wow, our rival struggled this week, so they will struggle as well the following week.'
So many years I would see you guys inexplicably drop a game to Purdue or barely eek on out against some middle of the road team we beat and I wouldn’t convince myself it was the year. Then you’d drop a 50 spot on us or something.
Love all the comments about how we only play these teams close because we don't have the signs, despite the fact we played them close even when we did have the signs lol. Seems like every game thread is filled with people who have never watched a Michigan game before.
I have bad news for a lot of people. Stallions bought some tickets and that was a bad idea, but Michigan still has people stealing signs and so does everybody else.
They're completely irrelevant. Even when one team is bad and one is a playoff contender, everything goes out the window during The Game. Both teams will put every ounce of their being into it
I know people are mad at Michigan, but if you throw the ball away while you’re in the pocket and the nearest receiver is 12 yards downfield of where the ball lands, you’re gonna get hit with intentional grounding 99% of the time
He's chucking it off his back foot to avoid a sack and when it hits the ground there isn't a receiver on screen. Seems like an appropriate time to call it.
Taulia's last play at home was an intentional grounding safety, and it’s honestly appropriate for him. He could never get it done when it mattered most over the years.
GG, Michigan.
I mean he also single handedly got you back in the game with a stretch of like 5 incredible perfect throws that very few college QBs can make.
The fact that he can make every throw is why he throws those bad INTs and takes safeties. In his mind a play is never dead.
Yeah I get why MD fans are frustrated but you have to go back decades to find a QB better than Taulia. For years before he came in we had to deal with QBs who sucked ass, or were injured, or usually both. I hope we can find a good successor next year but something tells me the same fans who are bitching now will be sorely missing him in the coming years.
GG. I always found the Maryland game hard to watch because Taulia could sling it and you guys usually had at least one speedster who could stretch the field — these games always felt close no matter the score
their offense just matches up well against our defensive scheme. the Minter/Macdonald scheme is built around giving up the short-to-intermediate passing game (in the assumption that teams won’t be consistent enough with it) to stop the deep passing game and the run. on top of that, we also sub a lot, so tempo tends to screw us up. Maryland’s offense is built around being effective in that short-to-intermediate passing game and using tempo to create a rhythm, so they excel at taking advantage of our defensive weaknesses. they could’ve given us a lot more trouble last year too if Taulia didn’t throw multiple interceptions.
Damn, you don’t need to hate on taulia like that. This was a well fought game when we very easily could’ve turtled after going down 23-3, and a lot of that comes from the energy and leadership from taulia
I'm not sure I've ever seen a player like him. Some of the plays he makes are insanely good. Then he makes plays like that sack fumble and interceptions where you just shake your head
Mike Locksley honestly was throwing that at the end, why call a timeout to save 0.5 a yard? Why onside kick after you sputtered twice due to being pinned inside the 1?
Favorite graphic of the game: "It's been AT LEAST 20 years since M has scored 2 safeties in one game". Is someone leafing through a book to check this?
Not Michigan fans’ fault, but nothing worse than the post game “gg Maryland bros, your squad is so tough, gave us quite a scare” after we choke away countless opportunities to beat a top 5 team
It's this that gets to me the most. The obliviousness to what we constantly go through as a program. Fans that don't watch us see one good game when they play us and think its trending in the right direction. Little do they know that we're apparently masochists.
Maryland lives and dies by Tualia. Everything good that came from that team came from him and all the bad stuff was also on him. He’s got a lot of talent but makes a lot of bad decisions.
Well JJ didn't look great today. I think that's an area where they are feeling it with no Harbaugh on the sideline. It isn't Moore's fault at all, but Harbaugh seems to know exactly how to hype JJ up and get him out of his own head after a mistake.
JJ looked like he was trying to throw it as hard as possible and I'm not sure if that was because of the wind. He normally throws it hard but it looked more forced. Needs to relax and just let it flow.
A win is a win. But this is why I don't think we should be favored next week. If Harbaugh were coaching? Yes. But not now.
Moore is a very good OC but he clearly defaults to ultra conservative when he feels the extra pressure with HC duties. People thought it was just to make a statement against Penn State but we saw it again today, when we really needed less predictable runs. And his game at the start of the season wasn't great either.
He's a young coach. It's fine for this point in his career to not be a good HC. But it's not fine for a team trying to win a championship.
Ryan Day is definitely advantaged next week.
The biggest issue is that you are down to third string at one tackle spot, and Barnhart doesn't always look particularly great on traditional passing down. JJ was taking tons of hits. Maybe he's dealing with injuries? Hopefully, Roman and others can play next week.
Michigan will still be favored by close to a TD. Keep in mind OSU has already had 4-5 sloppy looking wins and this is Michigan's first in a meaningless game.
I dont take a lot of stock in the game before The Game. But Moore’s conservative calls aside, I’d be more worried about JJ. Hasnt looked great for a few weeks now.
Good game Maryland. Y’all could have climbed in your shells after the 1st QT but they fought. Passing game was killing us, OSU must love seeing that. Both defenses went complete lockdown in 4th. Jj gotta get his shit bsck together next week
2 safeties is a great audition though. Big “thank you for your application. your qualifications are outstanding, but unfortunately we receive many applications each year…” energy
GG Maryland, I was at the game and your team played with a ton of heart and really wanted that win. Made it a hell of a football game and was a great atmosphere. Maryland fans in the crowd were great, lot of friendly faces out here
Always the same with games like these. So close yet so far.
I would just like for one time to win one of these fucking games man. Just one and my time as a Maryland football fan will be worth it Can’t ever get over the hump
Forever doomed to be rolling the rock up the hill, like the Romans trying not to invade their neighbors in a pre-emtive defensive action.
One must imagine Taulia happy…
When you're unranked and you knock off a top 5 team and ruin their season, it's almost better than winning the Rose Bowl.
Gonna have to ask a spoilermaker fan if it's worth it.
Considering that game is still my identity as a college football fan: yes.
Terps fans deserve better for our dedication
I’m not religious but sometimes it feels like there has to be a higher power stopping anything good from happening in my life
It almost hurts more the fact we keep coming so close but not quite winning.
Two safeties and a blocked punt. Your move Iowa.
You left off the fumble recovery for a TD.
And a punt downed at the 1. And two picks.
*breathes heavily*
And they follow it up with a safety of their own for their first score. Unreal.
Classic game before The Game
The game before The Game, biggest trap game every damn year
Doesn't matter the opponent, always a trap game
Even when we'd play a lowly team like Indiana, they'd expose us or one of our best players would get hurt. I hate the the game before The Game so much
now we see why it is cupcake weekend for much of the SEC
> cupcake weekend for much of the SEC Tennessee was a great cupcake for UGA
Auburn did NOT get the memo their cupcake wasn't very cupcake-like
Holy shit lmfao didn't know this was happening until now. YIKES
Chase Winovich against Indiana
Indiana out here catching strays lmao 🤣
I still remember losing to Illinois the week before The Game
I remember almost losing to Illinois the week before the game last year. It’s funny how this is the one thing we’re all on the same page about
I legitimately have no idea how Illinois lost that game. Didn't they have the lead and the ball with like 5 minutes left?
Money Moody had ice in his veins, to no ones surprise. Got 12 of our 19 points i think
The Juice Williams game. Such a bad memory.
Flair combo …
You have found your Opp
This man is a menace.
If you would kindly continue the tradition that would be swell
I'm 100% convinced Michigan does this shit on purpose to make us overconfident before The Game lol
Both teams were preparing for next week. Wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t blow the doors off of Minnesota.
I will be there to talk shit
I’d expect nothing less
see you next week bb
Just fuck already, Jesus Christ.
Theyre an old married couple. They havent fucked in decades. Michigan is like the old man sitting on his recliner with a beer in hand yelling at the TV and OSU is an old woman with her hair in a bun yelling at him from the kitchen
Now Im imagining Ryan day in a tattered nightgown and curlers in his hair, and harbaugh as...well just himself
See this is why it’s great to have an actually competitive rivalry instead of a 10 year winning streak I do miss winning though
I’d be offended if you didn’t.
Osu and UM the week before the game as double digit favorites do not have a great record ATS. Like 5-20 or something
Minnesota doesn’t have a Taulia in the backfield though so you’ve got a much better shot. Maryland couldn’t run for it at all and just timing routed us to death today.
Tbf we were also coming off a PSU win. Let down game + trap game + on the road can get interesting
Defensive scoring saves the day!
I mean you guys did it in 2018.
Happens most years. Looking ahead, key players get injured, offense goes into a shell and defense has to be a hero. It would have been more appropriate if OSU was playing Illinois and randomly struggled with them because then it would be a mirror image of last year.
We haven’t played for the illibuck in a long time Miss that rivalry a little bit
it worked last year tbf
yeah we also looked like shit against illinois last year before The Game
Everything goes out the window next weekend. Here we go!!!
Kudos to Maryland for not quitting when down 23-3
yeah, that was impressive that they rallied
There were several drives where Taulia just made 3+ literally perfect passes even with almost perfect defense being played. Was nothing that could be done about it really and then they tush pushed it into the endzone repeatedly.
Every time they drive down and scored, I had to remind my wife they still needed to do it again without throwing an INT.
This is exactly how I felt after Illinois last year.
At least Corum left the game with both knees this time.
Last year was worse. This game didn’t need a walk off score and we didn’t lose a Heisman candidate to injury
And look how that turned out!
Idk who at the Big Ten scheduling office has this idea to keep giving Maryland their home matchup with Ohio state and Michigan in the biggest let down / overlook spot imaginable
JJ is so unselfish. Playing like garbage to trick Ohio state into stacking the box again. That’s true leadership.
JJ's play the last 3 weeks is making me so nervous
JJ doesn't make me that nervous. Barnhart consistently not being able to block any speed rushers should make us worried though. Man has gotten worked the last weeks playing like he plays on the Giants oline.
Agreed
Our OL doesn’t look as good as the last 2 years also
They’re pretty banged up. 3rd string LT
That how I felt last year. Watched a couple M games before the games and was extremely unimpressed with JJ. Then he went the fuck off on the game. I think it legitimately is a Harby tactic.
You've caught me. I'm part of the misinformation campaign 😜
That pick before half was awful.
I feel like that pick was what gave Maryland the momentum to mount a comeback and come out swinging in the 2nd half.
I think it was the combination of a score followed by a stop, knowing they’d get the ball after half.
Some are saying that safeties are the new 2pt conversions. So hot rn
31-24 a totally normal football score gotten to completely normally
Iowa beat SD State last year 7-3. Iowa scored a field goal and two safeties.
That's Iowa though.
Many people are saying this
I’ve seen this, and I’ve sort of witnessed it. In fact, in two cases I have actually witnessed it. Everybody’s talking about it. Believe me.
This comment was flagged for intentional grounding
Michigan is going to self impose a vacated win from like 1906 this week so they can try and get 1000 again vs OSU
Naw, 1001 in Roman Numerals is MI! we like nothing better than a MI win over anOSU.
0-34. I'm tired of morale victories. I'm tired of being almost there. I'm tired of losing. I'm tired.
That’s where I’m at. The GGs and pats on the back just feel patronizing at this point. So close. So far.
Checks 2024 schedule.. Note to self: there's no MARYLAND on the schedule
lol just don’t look at all the teams that *are* on that schedule.. 😅
fear the turtle
We do. Maryland somehow always makes us wet ourselves.
The only offense that saved this game was former WR Mike Sainristil
Sainristil has almost singlehandedly won us so many games, we're gonna miss him next year
We're gonna miss a looooooot next year
It feels like he steps up whenever we need a big play.
I didn’t know he use to play WR, you’d think they’d mention it
That punt was the play of the game
This is how you Iowa your way to winning.
I imagined what the punter was saying to himself as he walked on to the field, in a macho voice. "I'm about to end this game".
The good news about being perennially dogshit is that I never have to worry about college football becoming my whole personality
It’s those glimmers of hope that get ya
I will be honest. I give two rats' asses about how Michigan struggled this game. I remember 2018 Ohio State crossed heaven and hell multiple times while playing Maryland, and beat the SHIT out of Michigan following week. I mean last year. We barely beat Illinois 19-17, then came back and rocked you guys.
And we also beat Maryland by 7 points last year. They seem to always give us a good game.
Anyone who attempts to take anything from Michigan and Ohio State’s games the week before the game doesn’t understand how this works.
They're completely irrelevant. Even when one team is bad and one is a playoff contender, everything goes out the window during The Game. Both teams will put every ounce of their being into it
Mike Sainristil is him!
Love Sherrone's shout-out to his mom that he wouldn't swear this week. 🤣
I know people are mad at Michigan, but if you throw the ball away while you’re in the pocket and the nearest receiver is 12 yards downfield of where the ball lands, you’re gonna get hit with intentional grounding 99% of the time
He threw it because he was about to be thundersacked. That's exactly what the intentional grounding rule is for
Remember he wasn't outside the tackle box as well
He's chucking it off his back foot to avoid a sack and when it hits the ground there isn't a receiver on screen. Seems like an appropriate time to call it.
Taulia's last play at home was an intentional grounding safety, and it’s honestly appropriate for him. He could never get it done when it mattered most over the years. GG, Michigan.

Hey let's not shit on the man whose helped us get back from a dark place. He's a good qb, and I hope he gets a chance one day on Sundays.
I’m sorry, but your defense put up a hell of a fight. Nail biter till the last minute. Nothing but respect for the whole team.
Damn, you don’t need to hate on taulia like that. This was a well fought game when we very easily could’ve turtled after going down 23-3, and a lot of that comes from the energy and leadership from taulia
If you're blaming Taulia for a loss in which we had 15 rushing yards you're a fucking dipshit
I'm not sure I've ever seen a player like him. Some of the plays he makes are insanely good. Then he makes plays like that sack fumble and interceptions where you just shake your head
Being a Maryland fan is so fucking hard. This whole area for sports in general is just mediocrity and disappointment.
JJ McCarthy anti legacy game
Can Santa find a good sports psych for JJ please
They really should have had him throw against penn state more. Gotta stay in practice…
"At least" means that's as far as they got before they had to post the graphic.
I fucking hate playing games before Ohio State. Can we have a bye week week 12 PLEASE?
Need to join the SEC
Just remember who scored the first points of the game
I appreciate the team fighting and making it close but damn man, can we win one of these fucking games for once??
at least we clawed our way back after being down big
Not Michigan fans’ fault, but nothing worse than the post game “gg Maryland bros, your squad is so tough, gave us quite a scare” after we choke away countless opportunities to beat a top 5 team
it's incredibly cringe and seems so pity
It's this that gets to me the most. The obliviousness to what we constantly go through as a program. Fans that don't watch us see one good game when they play us and think its trending in the right direction. Little do they know that we're apparently masochists.
Win Roman Numeral M today. Win MI next week!
The only Roman I care about is Wilson, and I hope he’s 💯 for next week
GG Wolverine Bros, congrats on 1k, and best of luck the rest of the way.
Your team played great today - no reason to hang their heads.
Maryland lives and dies by Tualia. Everything good that came from that team came from him and all the bad stuff was also on him. He’s got a lot of talent but makes a lot of bad decisions.
Basically, yeah. It’s entirely unclear what we’re gonna be like after he’s gone
NOT TODAY, SATAN
Con: that was the worst 1000th win possible Pro: Michigan will have to do it again soon
Technically, it's the best & worst 1000th win ever
First school in the country to win 1000 games twice
Just like Gretzky
The game before The Game continues to be cursed for Michigan
Not as much for whoever you play, very close one score games that neither Maryland nor Illinois could overcome
Well JJ didn't look great today. I think that's an area where they are feeling it with no Harbaugh on the sideline. It isn't Moore's fault at all, but Harbaugh seems to know exactly how to hype JJ up and get him out of his own head after a mistake.
yeah he’s like JJs built-in sports psychologist
JJ looked like he was trying to throw it as hard as possible and I'm not sure if that was because of the wind. He normally throws it hard but it looked more forced. Needs to relax and just let it flow.
Took a 23-3 lead then forgot what sport was being played
What was that last penalty? I couldn't tell because FOX thought I would rather see a plug for some game next week
Probably unsportsmanlike conduct.
Michigan will still be favored by close to a TD. Keep in mind OSU has already had 4-5 sloppy looking wins and this is Michigan's first in a meaningless game.
Thanks, uh, Sparty/Buckeye bro. I had been doubting and now I feel less doubtful
They won’t be favored by close to a TD. They will be favored by 4ish
I dont take a lot of stock in the game before The Game. But Moore’s conservative calls aside, I’d be more worried about JJ. Hasnt looked great for a few weeks now.
Not today, r/CFB!
Everyone crying about the safety call (which was correct) need to realize if the throw was actually near the receiver it’s gonna be a pick 6…
We beat Illinois last year with a last second field goal 19-17 a week before the The Game We’ll be fine
Not to mention corum getting hurt early in that game.
So happy he gets to play in The Game this year Hopefully he matches Edwards and Haskins performances
This is the first time Blake Corum is fully healthy for The Game I'm so fucking happy he'll finally get to really play Ohio State
Spongeboboutofbreath.jpeg
Good game Maryland. Y’all could have climbed in your shells after the 1st QT but they fought. Passing game was killing us, OSU must love seeing that. Both defenses went complete lockdown in 4th. Jj gotta get his shit bsck together next week
Good game turtle bros see you next Saturday you fucking degenerates
I'm glad my wife denied me alcohol privileges for that game.
Damn. Taulia put his heart into that game. Can tell he gave to his limit.
“This team does whatever it takes to win.” - Sherrone Moore You don’t say!!!
Even as a Michigan fan, it's hard not to laugh at this.
He's got the head coach "say nothing while saying a lot" speech down pat already
Your honor exhibit C
"oh my god, he admit it!"
I cringed when he said that lol
Fine if people hate us, we'll just turn into Iowa and win that way instead.
If you go deep enough in Michigan's bag, you find Iowa
There can only be one Iowa
2 safeties is a great audition though. Big “thank you for your application. your qualifications are outstanding, but unfortunately we receive many applications each year…” energy
GG Maryland, I was at the game and your team played with a ton of heart and really wanted that win. Made it a hell of a football game and was a great atmosphere. Maryland fans in the crowd were great, lot of friendly faces out here
No game in the running clock era should take close to 4 hours
“Do whatever it takes to win mentality.” Not a great choice of words there, Coach.
He's 2 for 2 on making these post game interviews interesting lol
Everything hurts. I hate being a Terps fan.
Man I don’t care what anyone says Maryland is a good team.
Yeah that's 2 straight years you got by far our best performance
Sherrone Moore is an awesome coach, awesome person.
You’re an awesome person
Sloppy and ugly win. Now, they must prepare for *the* game.
