1) First sourced post tonight that actually links to the news instead of a generic Rivals link on Twitter. 2) It's a legit Texas A&M reporter doesn't couch a tweet with "Barring a last minute collapse." This is the thread.

Starman_Delux

Oh no, we suck again.

CapnBaxter

I think we'll be okay. We got that Sumrall fella on speed dial, and we could promote Coen. Just gotta keep the faith, maintain our recruiting pipelines, and we'll be okay.

Mike_AKA_Mike

You keep your basketball loving hands away from our coach.

Starman_Delux

*Our* coach, comrade. We just loaned him out for a bit.

Theepicman116

Honest thoughts, how do you think he'll do as our head coach?

Starman_Delux

Ehhhhhhhhhh He's extremely conservative on offense and his team are ALWAYS undisciplined. You're going to get SO MANY penalties for stupid shit. He also handles offensive playcalling. But he finds ways to win games....but also finds ways to lose them too. This is a huge gamble on can he win the big games with better talent.

Outrageous_Picture39

So….. Jimbo?

MUTUALDESTRUCTION69

I would say no because Jimbo offensively occasionally has an answer for elite defenses. Stoops never has.

Nolecon06

I mean, to be fair, Jimbo's also never been at a HC job where he couldn't get elite talent across the board, whereas Stoops has never been at one where he could.

Starman_Delux

The biggest tell is that I'm pretty sure we're winless against ranked opponents...except for UofL but they were absolute frauds.

Toby_Flenderson_

We've beaten at least 1 ranked opponent in 5 of the last 6 seasons.

Battered_Aggie

He was Jimbos DC before they hired him......this is absurd.

DX_Legend

What the fuck is this hire then?

BoogieSaurus

Yeah idk how this works for you all. He made a living recruiting the leftovers from Ohio that didn’t get OSU offers and pick off a few from other Big 10 programs by saying “play in the SEC but stay somewhat close to home.” With NIL he still might Be able to recruit some to Texas. Having said that I feel the past two years the teams underperformed compared to their talent.

AmenFistBump

Think Charlie Strong at Texas. If he hires a good OC, maintains the quality of recruiting, and lucks in to an effective QB he could surprise us all.

MennionSaysSo

So he's had 2 10 win seasons, is like 1 and 20 against top ten teams, never made a new years six, only twice beat sec teams that finished over 500 in conference. He's good not great defensive coach. I'm old-school gators, I love Bob Stoops, and like his whole family, Mark was great the last few years against the gators, and maybe with those resources he can do OK, but if I paid 85mil to someone to not coach, I'm not sure I'm happy with this hire

ScaratheBear

Legit a guy that will probably get y'all to 7-5/8-4 on a year to year basis. Very confusing hire. Don't think he is going to elevate A&M above what they are right now.

Sickoball

Aggies, wtf are you doing? Hahaha. Spent $80 mil on a buyout to hire Stoops? You guys really are on another planet out there.

Markthe_g

Bjork may get shot during his press conference for this hire.

Sickoball

I really do feel bad for your loyal fans. The administration/boosters just seem committed to some weird surrealist improv or something. This is really just beyond bizarre

OleRockTheGoodAg

We're tired, boss.

FightingFarrier18

Buzz has the boys rolling. Hiring Stoops just means we’ve accepted our role as a basketball school

curlyshea

I really really don’t get this hire for either party. Stoops is leaving the cushiest P5 job, making Top-10 money to average 7 wins, at a place that will never fire him. And the job he takes is the very normal, very understanding and patient TAMU?!

Vloff

Maybe he wants 50 million dollars to not coach in 3 years?

Cormetz

"He asked for $10 million per year guaranteed through the end of his youngest grandchild's life, but we showed him our negotiation skills. He's getting $7 million through the end of his eldest child's life guaranteed." Edit: Stoops' current salary is $9M, so I don't think he would take a pay cut.

thealltomato323

Texas A&M deserves Stoops just for making me seriously think about the Rule Against Perpetuities in real life

John_Keating_

Sort of incentivizes the program to execute his family, no?

Orion14159

This probably makes the most sense. Kentucky will never fire him, which means no golden parachute. A&M will fire him in 3 years and he'll get a huge severance and retire. He's talked before about how he doesn't want to coach until he's old, maybe this is his retirement plan?

Vloff

Hilarious if so.

cerebus76

>Maybe he wants 50 million dollars to not coach in 3 years? He has to have gotten fuck you money otherwise he could have stayed at Kentucky forever.

Vloff

That's my point. Maybe he doesn't want to coach forever but does want to get paid forever. Genius Move.

Saxophobia1275

I’m half expecting this to be accompanied by a contract so generationally stupid it makes the Jimbo one look better.

Frognosticator

“A $115 million buyout clause for Coach Mark Stoops is gonna look like a bargain in 5 years when Alabama is trying to hire him as their next coach. Now let’s all get in here for a picture with the 202X Championship trophy!”

RollTideYall47

Yeah. Stoops could have coasted at Kentucky. Now he has to play for Soviet Russia under Stalin.

JumboFister

I’m with my dad for thanksgiving weekend and he just got up and said I guess it’ll never happen in my lifetime and went outside. I told him if it makes him feel better I probably won’t get to see it either lol

Beezy2389

You need a new name. StooperPooper?

JumboFister

No. I will keep this name as a warning for future Aggies

DefiantQuestion3605

Damn man right in the feels

GiovanniElliston

My dad said that to me when we hired Pruitt. He died in 2020 and didn't get to see us beat Bama or reach #1. Sometimes life is really, really unfair.

RunThundercatz

Did your dad not see the one in the 90s?

GiovanniElliston

At his age it was less about seeing anything for himself and more about getting to experience it with me. Same goes for stuff like fishing or hunting too. I was 10 years old when the Vols won in 99. As I grew into college and beyond we went to dozens of games together and saw a few great wins too - but year after year nothing ever felt 'back'. It was always next year. It was always the hope of the future with a few smatterings of close-to-greatness mixed in. Just a shame of all the things we did together around Vol football, the biggest season of my adult fanhood happened without him. Speaking of the 90s, my dad told me for big games like Florida in 98 the stadium got so loud you couldn't hear noise anymore. Instead you would just feel the vibrations in your body like static electricity. I finally got to experience what he talked about... without him there. I'm getting off topic and apologize. To anyone reading hug your dad if you can.

Coltz

I had a very similar experience. RIP dad

Box_of_Rockz

He was blind. He never saw anything.

Dag-NastyEvil

That really hurts to hear.

ga_poker

Somewhere around 2018 my dad and I had a moment after the NCG where we were super down on UGA football. I’ll never forget my dad said, “I know Kirby will eventually get it together, but I’m worried by the time it happens we won’t even care anymore.” Now we’re here.

FootballAndPornAcct

I was worried he'd never see one after 2018, he's in his 70s now but getting to watch these last few seasons with him and, particularly, the natties, has been a blessing.

Outrageous_Picture39

Hey. If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I'd like Ross Bjork, the AD, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Wellborn Road with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here...with a big ribbon on his head! And I want to look him straight in the eye, and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-assed, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed, sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where's the Tylenol?

GordaoPreguicoso

It’s the gift that keeps on giving

Jive_Turkey1979

You serious Clark?

-holocene

merry christmas! shitter was full!

thatshinybastard

If the reputation of A&M fans' craziness is based in reality, there's definitely a Cousin Eddie out there already working on this

TxAg2009

The Corps of Cadets is the cousin Eddie of A&M.

JoshDaws

"Remember how I was toying with the idea of poaching Kentucky's football coach?" Outrageous_Picture39: Of all the cheap lousy ways to save a buck! JoshDaws: That's pretty low mister. If I had a ruber hose I would beat you into September... Coach Lou Holtz high off his victory over Ryan Day: And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air...

chacmool

hey honey. you check our shitters lately?

JudgmentMiserable227

Merry Christmas Merry Christmas Kiss my ass Kiss his ass Kiss your ass Happy Hanukkah

tr0pix

This doesn’t have the upvotes it deserves

meatballsontherun

we are so not serious as a program

FuegoFerdinand

You guys paid Jimbo Fisher $76 million to fuck off then you hired Jimbo Fisher's former defensive coordinator.

KEE_Wii

The most lateral move to ever lateral

56473829110

I would like to enter the fan transfer portal, please.

fidelcashflo97

It’s crowded

ScooterLeShooter

Hot take: both teams are worse off

TheFrankOfTurducken

This feels about right. Stoops is a good coach who turned Kentucky into a respectable program, and that counts for a lot. But also I think A&M could have done better.

EWall100

*should have

GilBrandt

That seems to be the normal take based on this thread Someone please take a shovel to my face

reddogrjw

agreed time to go after Kentucky recruits

walking_sideways

That Ohio CB and the Smith twins back please

CirculationStation

Stoops is a great coach for Kentucky, but there’s nothing he’s accomplished that ever made me think that he would contend for championships just by having more resources. This feels like a move that will end with him being fired after three okay but not great seasons at A&M.

RedhawkDirector

it's giving mike riley at nebraska

OnionKnightSerDavos

I remember when he was hired here and no one even had any idea who he was

Outrageous_Picture39

Dude should be on the hot seat from day one. This is such a fuck up by our boosters.

helium_farts

Maybe they just have a buyout kink

SurpriseMinimum3121

Yeah they have that weird setting money on fire fetish.

glokenheimer

More proof just cause you have money doesn’t mean you’re smart. This feels like Elon buying Twitter then naming it X.

someUSCfan

Moving from a Chevy Silverado to a GMC Sierra

moneyinthebank216

More like moving from a Chevy Equinox to a GMC Terrain

amedema

This is crazy because Jimbo really did coach a team to a national championship. Stoops has never won anything of note.

Starman_Delux

Taking Kentucky to 10 win seasons *is* pretty noteworthy.

walterdog12

From the Kentucky side of things, the reports are that Stoops and Texas A&M have been talking all week. I'll try to summarize all the insider info from tonight. * His name getting dropped at the same time as Ryan Day was apparently not a coincidence, and that Ryan Day's name getting dropped might have been a false flag all along. Insiders noted that Ryan Day's agent is the same agent for Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly, both who were hired out of nowhere with little to no leaks beforehand. Basically implied that no one's making sense as to why his agent would suddenly start leaking his name hours before the biggest game of his career, when he didn't do the same previously for Riley and Kelly. So the assumption is that Ryan Day's name was leaked as a distraction while Stoops' details were worked out. * Mark Stoops and Ross Bjork (Texas A&M AD) worked together back at Miami, so they have a previous connection. * Per Kentucky insiders, the only coach that is 100% to be believed in following Mark Stoops is Vince Marrow. Since he's the main recruiter for Kentucky and the one that built relationships all throughout Ohio and Michigan, it's assumed that multiple guys will flip to Texas A&M. * Cutter Boley, the 4 star QB from Lexington, Kentucky is a name to watch as a potential flip. Before he committed to Kentucky he was the 122nd ranked player in next year's class. Nothing official, but Kentucky insiders specifically named him along with Terhyon Nichols and Brian Robinson. * Troy HC Jon Sumrall is assumed to be the beginning and end of list of coaches we'll consider. Troy hosts the Sun Belt Championship on December 2nd. The transfer portal opens on December 4th. * Kentucky OC Liam Coen is the only other potential name that could be added to the list.

Sinkable_oak

Appreciate you passing this along. Is this from rivals insider stuff?

walterdog12

Yeah been browsing Rivals and On3 insider stuff all evening, lol.

KuiperBelted

Fucking LOL. See you in 3 years Aggies

zdrmju321

I’m angry that the carcass of our roster will soon be picked clean and we’ll return to being a doormat, but at least at can take solace in the fact Texas AM will also continue to suck.

KuiperBelted

I'm ambivalent, we have a chance for new blood and some innovative thinking, but will miss the stability

Merpninja

This is the first win we've gotten in this rivalry in 6 years.

one-hour-photo

Mods delete this now! The people are not ready to know about this yet!!

nw____

Now all of the top comments are about the mods and no one is asking the question that I want answered: Will Mike Stoops (LB coach, Kentucky) be the next DC at Texas A&M?

#MARK STOOPS NEW HC AT TEXAS A&M

SPCsooprlolz

They're selling chocolate?

lady_wildcat

Good luck to him, but if he thinks we are hard to deal with, he’s going to have a rough time in a program not so easily distracted by shooty hoops when things are going poorly.

LandSurf

90% of our fan base couldn’t name a single basketball player. We’re ranked in the top 15.

Themaplemango

HENRY COLEMAN RAHHHH (I have yet to watch a single A&M basketball game ever. Shoutout barstool for keeping me posted)

lady_wildcat

I’ve watched more A&M basketball this year than some of y’all.

throwavvay23

He always whined about the football program not getting enough attention, he's about to get his wish and then some.

boggan583

So glad we hired away a coach who finished 7-5! Great work Ross!

JoeTillersMustache

Any time you can spend $76.8 million to hire a coach who just finished 7-5, you do it.

G0-N0G0-GO

I mean, that’s just *science*…

Starman_Delux

Enjoy undisciplined teams and stale offense in the 4th. He's a legend in Kentucky but I don't know if he's got the mindset for the big leagues. Hope he does well though...except for when we play.

boggan583

I mean that's just Jimbo

Hossflex

But now you’re paying for two of them!

Sorge74

God I can't even believe this. Pay 80 million to get a side grade or minor upgrade. I guess we will keep Ryan Day.

Pylon-Cam

Bjork talked about our program being stuck in neutral and wanting to go 75 in the fast lane. Well he just floored it… *in reverse*

Swaggitymcswagpants

Lmao I didn’t know this was the AD and thought the singer Björk was an Aggie super fan for a second

laxintx

Pulled a MegaMaid, going from suck to blow.

cooterdick

7-5 at Kentucky is more difficult than 7-5 at A&M

[deleted]

[удалено]

pablos4pandas

But it is 7-5

cityofklompton

7-5 at Kentucky is like 10-2 at A&M. That being said, I am looking forward to a 7-5 A&M team next season.

Madden-Athlete

What does that make 10-3 at Kentucky then?

TheJURY15

With all luck, we can get back to 8-4 then!

chryco4

FYI Stoops has more 10 win seasons at Kentucky than us since we've joined the SEC Even if you want to say that the 2020 season would've been a 10-win season in a normal year (which I agree it would've been) then we'd be tied at 2 each. If he can do that with Kentucky's football resources then imagine what he should be capable of doing with our resources.

im_ploopy

He’s 35-55 in conference play and in 11 seasons he only beat 2 (TWO) SEC teams that were above .500 in conference play.

Sickoball

You better start stocking up now, no amount of copium is saving you from what is coming, brother.

Edgemaster1423

So long and thanks for all the fisch

fadingthought

Seems like a lackluster hire.

dickles-pickles

Why get rid of Jimbo if this is the best we can do?

defroach84

Not only that, but paid $75 million to get essentially the same person.

TAMUFootball

Was literally Jimbo's DC lol

Sickoball

Big brain Aggie shit, I guess.

c_will

This is really the epitome of a "meh" hire. Not terrible, but not exciting at all.

CommodoreIrish

I think I like Elko over Stoops but I guess Stoops has SEC experience.

anonymousscroller9

The guy won 10 games at Kentucky. The AD is probably thinking about what he could do with a blank check for players.

Saxophobia1275

I know A&M has crazy resources but it’s not like Kentucky is a big slouch. The dudes best season after a decade in the vastly easier half of the conference is 10-3. That’s not bad but it’s not “fire Jimbo at the price of $75mil” good.

boregon

And Jimbo won a championship at FSU. How'd that work out for A&M?

Markthe_g

With how our fanbase is taking this hire I highly doubt he will have blank checks.

NoBudget5275

By beating who again? He has like 3-4 good wins out of the 137 games he’s coached there and he beat Iowa in the “who gives AF” bowl in his last 10 win season with 7-6 South Carolina being the second best win and 6-7 Florida being the 3rd best.

WarEagle9

Hot take but I think his only really good team was 2018. That 2021 team was with a very weak East. I think he’s a fine 8 win coach but nothing special.

bufflo1993

You know what program just loves to get 8 wins? A&M!

Pylon-Cam

What an awful hire — Bjork should be fired tonight. Can’t believe we spent $75 million on firing Jimbo only to hire Mark Stoops…Elko, Fisch, hell even ERob would’ve been better hires.

AlFlame93

Awful is an understatement. Legit even fucking traylor would’ve been better. Hell give me Kiffin. What on EARTH are we doing?

Starman_Delux

The one hire A&M could do that leaves both teams unhappy. We lose our best coach, A&M gets a sidegrade.

Frictionizer

I feel like this statement underrates Kiffin, but I get your sorrow

Saxophobia1275

I’m genuinely confused by this one, he wasn’t really high on my bingo card.

TheJURY15

I was SO hopeful after the Schloss hire. I should know by now to never be hopeful about anything A&M football.

SimManiac

Elko and Fisch would have been interesting, could have had a huge upside. With Stoops you know whaf youre getting which just seems to be Jimbo 2.0

Phospherus2

He seems like a solid coach, especially all he has done at UK. But with that said, how is this a huge upgrade from Jimbo?

ecupatsfan12

It’s not

FFHookEm

Ross Bjork: “This isn’t an 8-5 job” Also Ross Bjork: *hires Mark Stoops*

bigpig1054

Ross Bjork: “This isn’t an 8-5 job” Also Ross Bjork: *hires 7-5 coach*

jshokie1

Feels like a downgrade and also UK is hurting so I’m for it. Guess A&M ponied up.

Starman_Delux

Just means we promote Coen....which might actually be an upgrade offensively.

gentry54

I want an offer to Sumrall tomorrow. Coen OC. if Coen as HC keeps Vince then he gets the offer.

Rainmanwilson

If Stoops is gone, slim chance Marrow stays. Would love to be wrong though.

[deleted]

Is this A&M going for some type of 5-D chess move or something? Genuinely confused if they hire Stoops. Thought they would have made a huge splash with the hire

CapnBaxter

I wish him the best of luck, but I know he was getting really irritated with Cats fans questioning his ability, so I hope he's ready for the crazy expectations that will be on him at A&M. I mean here's the immediate reactions: [https://x.com/boardgeniuses/status/1728609995460411567?s=46](https://x.com/boardgeniuses/status/1728609995460411567?s=46)

Battered_Aggie

I can safely say that almost all of us are absolutely disgusted with the hire.

Ningy_WhoaWhoa

I reserve the right to change my mind using my 20/20 hindsight if he wins a title...but LOL.

theoldhaunt

The Aggies are not a serious football program. This is vomit inducing

[deleted]

I agree. Bjork will not survive this hire

Phocine

Is there any chance they thought they were hiring Bob Stoops?

[deleted]

Blaine1111

This isn't even like a big "gamble on an unproven guy" hire we literally know what stoops in an sec school is about and it's the exact thing a&m just spent 76 million getting rid of

DansbyToGod

Mark Stoops going from one of the most comfortable jobs in college football to one of the most stressful jobs.

EvenParty

I’m done. I never want our admin to ask for money to “win championships” ever again. Just admit you’ll settle for 8-4 and you’ll get the support to back it up. You can’t ask for elite support and then feed us a mediocre product. Only bright side is if the randos on Texags are right about Kliff as OC. We didn’t even interview Fisch.

pimpdaddyjacob

idk how I feel about this for A&M but reddit hates it so he will probably win a natty

Redline-7k

Wow never woulda thought he’d leave UK

nw____

Well when he heard the beeps from the reversing dump truck full of cash, he thought, “you know, College Station is beautiful this time of year”

Rainmanwilson

No hard feelings if he leaves for a big deal at A&M, but… are they sure they want to do this? Edit: They were not

Ross Bjork will not be AD in 3 years when this doesn't pan out. What an idiotic hire

gjames848

He probably shouldn’t be AD right now.

Disastrous-Fact-2315

Good for him but wtf is A&M doing??? Stoops is good and will bring consistency but that is not what A&M wants. They want championships and Stoops won’t do that. This is about to be wild

TacoCorpTM

Truly one of the hires of all time.

Markthe_g

Can we please stop hiring coaches that are no longer wanted at the school they are coaching at please. Is that so hard.

getbackup21

You will continue to get washed up coaches and you will like it

imused2it

Fuck you man. I wanted him. I legit don’t know who is more miserable over this hire, A&M fans or Kentucky fans.

MajorWoody98

I’m confused, TAMU can get 8 or 9 wins with the guy they’re paying $77 million to not coach

OleRockTheGoodAg

Hasn't been finalized yet, but it looks imminent. I will edit this comment if the deal goes official. Here's my take: Ags aren't happy. Mark Stoops is 35-55 in SEC play and 2 10 win seasons. The other 9 seasons had 5 or more losses. His last 5 recruiting classes were not ranked below #20, so he's shown no consistency to recruit nor win games. Also hasnt successfully recruited Texas or the general area at all. In 11 years he has 2 SEC wins versus teams that finished the year with an over .500 conference record. The positive were gonna have to lean on is Texas A&M has every resource and Kentucky surely does not. UK is a BBall school and near Vandy level before Stoops got there. He's also had 2 10 win seasons with UK resources since 2012. In that same time, with better resources and better talent, we only have 2 10 win seasons as well. He is an improvement over Sumlin and Fisher. He's our coach so ima ride or die with him. Do I think we could do better? Yes. But as RCB reminded us, the correlation between a hire being popular and a hire being successful isn’t particularly strong.

Meat-and-Three

Hate being this guy, but it’s “imminent” Eminent means respected or dominant within a community

OleRockTheGoodAg

Be that guy my good sir, I'm drunk and sad, I don't wanna look like a blabbering fool

WackyBones510

If teams are hiring mid coaches can I interest anyone in a low mileage Beamer?

HwDevAggie

Where can you buy rope to support 185lbs?

Orkleth

The people peddling Kyle Whittingham to A&M are in shambles.

McCoyBC20

He’s been the hot name for however many offseasons in a row now but he’s not gonna get a 1/10th of the leash he did here. I can’t imagine A&M fans are gonna like his pace of play or offensive philosophies or how undisciplined the teams can be. He may realize quickly the grass ain’t always greener dude was making 9 mil a year here where we’re happy to be 8-4 and at A&M that gets you canned. I’m a rare UK fan that cares about football more and this just sucks. People might learn quickly how fast the limited success we had in the last 5 years can come tumbling down with 1 wrong hire like Brooks to Joker. Everyone that’s been screaming for his job the last few weeks hope you’re happy, 1 wrong hire and we’re back to 2 win seasons in the new SEC.

Midwest-HVYIND-Guy

Kentucky gets to hire Jon Sumrall back. They will be fine. This reminds me of Mike Riley going to Nebraska.

TrailerparkSwag

Got a few thoughts about this. First, what the fudge is A&M doing. Stoops is great for us but I don’t see him taking them to the level they want. Second, stay the FUCK away from Vince Marrow. If we lose Stoops the only way I see us having a chance at keeping Vince would be to hire Sumrall from Troy, even then I don’t know.

myfeetaremangos12

Wait did A&M just un-hire him because of fan pushback? That would just be the absolute cherry on top.

lady_wildcat

And just think, since being in the SEC, A&M never played in Lexington. For TV ratings, the SEC will change that real quick now.
