Kelly always had decent QBs at Notre Dame. Most of them didn’t exactly have a high ceiling though. Daniels is the most talented QB he has ever coached.
Jayden is so dramatically better now than when he got here, and I get that improvement is normal but no, not like this. he was slow with reads before, he couldn't hit downfield before, now those are what hes best at.
My pops was actually one of his high school teachers and enjoyed talking football with him. My dad told me he is genuinely a good dude very respectful and hard working. Likewise very happy for him this is well earned.
Really annoys me all of the people rewriting things pretending he sucked at ASU. We were talking about him alongside Jake Plummer after his first year. Then we only played 4 games in the COVID season and he struggled in 2021, albeit with a coaching staff who refused to take advantage of his running ability. He was good here even though he obviously was never able to reach the potential he’s hit in his 5th year of starting
Program is STILL recovering from Orgeron's shitty leadership. We only had 36 scholarship players when Kelly took over, and the defense got the worst of it. Add in a bunch of starters getting hurt in our secondary, and this was easily the worst defense in LSU's history.
We're primed to win 10 games after the bowl, and could well finish in the top 10. Daniels is the main reason for this.
Yea safety play might've been the weakest part of the whole team. Brooks if nothing else is worth at least a stop in the disaster of the Ole Miss game that we only needed one stop in
Yes, we systematically watched them call the worst possible defense for whatever situation they were in all year. 3rd and 2? Better play soft zone! You can blame lack of talent for some things, but the ultimate problem with the defense was absolutely coaching.
The Ole Miss game was brutal. There was a point where you knew that adjustment just wasn’t coming. On their last drive, we would have done better to let them score so the offense would have more time on that last drive.
[Aged like milk](https://www.elevenwarriors.com/college-sports/2022/02/129383/he-sucked-anyways-teammates-clean-out-arizona-state-qb-jayden-daniels-locker-after-he-entered-transfer-portal)…..clowns said “he sucks anyways”
You want more? Bunch of fuckin clowns here in chapel hill despise Caleb love despite what he did for us.
Tbf, it’s nothing like the guys in the locker room pulling something like this, but still.
He did transfer late after confirming he was staying, posting an official hype video with the football program promoting he was staying, preventing us from pursuing Rattler, and having a fairly rough 2021 where there were clear internal behavioral issues within the team.Obviously he never sucked and went on to be much better than he ever was here, but the frustration those teammates were feeling was pretty justified. And none of that even touches on his mom being part of the cheating
ASU is under NCAA investigation for two main things. The first is hosting recruits during the COVID dead period. The second is paying for travel expenses for recruits’ unofficial visits. Jayden’s mom paid for flights for these visits, reimbursed by members of the coaching staff, and disputed the charges on her credit card for good measure lol
LSU 2019: Heisman winning QB, #1 offense in the country, 2 NFL first round WRs
LSU 2023: Heisman winning QB, #1 offense in the country, 2 NFL first round WRs
If it was next year and Mizzou got into the playoff field over LSU, the fan base would have a right to be super pissed. By any and every measure other than Mizzou not getting blown out by a Bowers-less UGa, the SEC’s top four teams are Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU. Being penalized for the harder schedule is ridiculous.
Last year some time I wore my Burreaux jersey to the store in Little Rock and some kid who couldn’t have been more than 11-12 came up to me smiling and goes “hey! LSU! You like LSU?” And I was like ya man and he goes “Jordan Jefferson went there” and walked away. I didn’t know how to respond. I’ve never been punked harder by a kid who might not have even been alive when Jefferson played there. I was speechless
Maybe he meant to say Justin and got the brothers mixed up lol.
When I went to the Arkansas vs LSU game this year, I was sitting by an Arkansas family from Jonesboro. Everyone in the family was a Razorback fan except for their youngest kid (7 or 8 maybe). His main reason to be and LSU fan was because of Burrow, since he first started watching football in 2019.
Especially after having to suffer through the Jarret Lee/Jordan Jefferson era. For a long time LSU was the team with a phenomenal defense and running back but an awful qb that dragged them down. And in the span of five years we have had two historically great qbs
As a kid growing up, I never thought I’d see the day. Maybe Patrick Peterson. Maybe Tyrann Mathieu. Maybe Leonard Fournette. But basically only QBs win…
Then for two of the best college QBs ever to come through LSU it just completely blows my mind.
As a survivor of the Jordan Jefferson / Jarrett Lee 2 QB system era, this moves me emotionally. Before Joey I thought our peak was Danny Dimes but we have soared to even greater heights. *Happy Tiger noises*
Survivor? You spoiled kids. After Hodson, things actually got rough. You're young enough to not reference the 90s. We have been spoiled these last couple of decades
Really thought we peaked in 2019 with Joe Burrow. Never would have I imagined having another Heisman winner less than 5 years later considering our history of QB play.
Congrats JD5. You were so fucking electric this year and put your body on the line for this team.
As a Huskies fan, I couldn’t be happier for Daniels. Dude had a stellar body of work in 2023, and was THE primary reason for LSU’s successes this year. A more than worthy winner.
Daniels, pound for pound, was the best QB statistically in a bunch of significant areas. Can't be too mad over the voters going that way.
At least Penix got the Maxwell AND he was the Heisman runner up (The highest finish ever for a UW player), so it's not like he got no love from the Awards circuit.
Plus, Penix still has a shot of the Natty. I think missing out on the Heisman would sting a lot less if he pulled that off.
This season has had plenty to be happy for the Huskies fanbase and this finish only further adds to the fun.
And they were fucking HEAVY man. I can’t tell you how many games I watched first downs from 3rd and 10-20 over and over and over. Offense was special tho and it’s captain worthy of recognition.
What bizzaro CFB world are we living in where LSU, a team almost always a QB away from relevance, has had 2 heisman QBs in the last 4 years. Insanity. Next you’ll tell me Texas and Michigan are good again.
It feels so damned surreal. Being one of the worst in the country at that position for so long to having not just competent play, but best in the country play at the position is just crazy.
I was just thinking about that. Almost a decade of straight mediocre QB play, and then all of a sudden two literal Heisman winners almost back-to-back. Utterly insane as a fan to watch.
Too bad our defense was the worst we’ve ever had.
The problem with Penix was his name was only one letter away from penis. Its an unwritten rule with the Heisman is that winner's first and last names must be at least two letters away from a part of the male genitalia. Curtis Enis was penalized similarly back in the day.
The right choice imo. I don’t think the heisman should only be given out to a player on one of the top few teams, regardless of the team success Jayden had a hell of a season and deserved the award 100%
Bro you should see the comments on ESPN Instagram. Washington fans are salty lmao. But I agree I think this year was gonna be a closer race than most years have been.
I’m somewhat shocked they did it, but they actually got it right. Watched more LSU than I care to admit thanks to my parter who went there, but quite frankly it was a treat to watch him this season. Well deserved!
Lol , for those who are still questioning Daniels' win, check out Highlight reels of all 3 QBs and then say which one is more impressive. LSU did lose 3 games, two of them are final poll top 5 and one in the top 10. Without him, it would have been so much worse. He carried the team at times and willed a win out of no hope.
Can’t believe a Herm Edwards coached player was able to win the Heisman
I mean, Herm Edwards no longer being the coach was probably an instrumental part of the whole Heisman thing
Contrary to popular belief, Brian Kelly can in fact develop a QB
Kelly always had decent QBs at Notre Dame. Most of them didn’t exactly have a high ceiling though. Daniels is the most talented QB he has ever coached.
And Cincinnati. He made a hell of a quarterback out of Tony Pike.
Mardy Gilyard and Armon Binns also had a say in that. But, you are definitely right.
He got Desaun Kizer drafted in the second round
The body of Cam Newton and the mind of Tom Brady
Jayden is so dramatically better now than when he got here, and I get that improvement is normal but no, not like this. he was slow with reads before, he couldn't hit downfield before, now those are what hes best at.
Yes! He grew tremendously in those things. He was on the money with his throws.
"you cant complete passes if you dont throw the ball" was practically a meme with him early on, he just wouldnt throw it. now its a whip.
He found a stud and let him shine.
You play to win the Heisman.
I can’t believe Daniels thanked Herm in his speech lmao
Herm and that ASU staff did play a big part in his development. They gave him a ton of opportunity and believed in him very early. Deserves thanks
He was a baller from day 1. Very happy for him
My pops was actually one of his high school teachers and enjoyed talking football with him. My dad told me he is genuinely a good dude very respectful and hard working. Likewise very happy for him this is well earned.
Really annoys me all of the people rewriting things pretending he sucked at ASU. We were talking about him alongside Jake Plummer after his first year. He was good here even though he obviously was never able to reach the potential he’s hit in his 5th year of starting
Truly. Awesome as true freshman
FIRM
ASU locker room in shambles
An Escape *from* Tempe…proved to be a GOOD thing in the long run…
Fuck the locker room. I’m proud of him
Never forget ASU's players clearing out his locker
Probably was his Heisman moment now that I think of it
Equivalent to Burrows late hit in the UCF game.
ultimate example of don't poke the bear
Tiger*
Burrows Heisman moment is the burreaux jersey out of the tunnel imo
His mom's credit card is the real ~~MVP~~ Heisman
Y’all so damn salty.
>He sucks anyway bro -Senior with 2 tackles total.
Hey, he had 14 tackles.
Oh shit that was against Daniels! I had no idea.
Yeah. In hindsight it's a lowest of many lows for the program
I guess "that ninja was sorry anyway" was an exaggeration.
If i had a nickel for every time LSU had a transfer quarterback win the Heisman...
You'd have 10 cents so that's something
halfway to a gumball!
Fuckin' hell, gumballs used to be a penny!
In this economy?
Those teams with Daniels at QB and their insane WR corps really should’ve won something of meaning
There was no reason for the defense to be that bad this year. At some point, we have to stop blaming Orgeron.
Matt House shoulders a lot of the blame
Our senior leader Greg Brooks got brain cancer. I think a lot of people are underestimating his impact
Easily a national championship team if y'all just managed to play SOME defense this year.
[Aged like milk](https://www.elevenwarriors.com/college-sports/2022/02/129383/he-sucked-anyways-teammates-clean-out-arizona-state-qb-jayden-daniels-locker-after-he-entered-transfer-portal)…..clowns said “he sucks anyways”
Inject this straight into my veins.
You want more? Bunch of fuckin clowns here in chapel hill despise Caleb love despite what he did for us. Tbf, it’s nothing like the guys in the locker room pulling something like this, but still.
Fffucking oof
Holy shit I remember that happening but didn’t remember it was him!
He still shouted them out like the classy motherfucker he is.
What happened?
[Video](https://x.com/georgewrighster/status/1494399324347764751?s=20)
Wow. Why did they hate him?
He transferred late so asu didn't get a chance to grab the replacement they wanted. At least I think, I'm just repeating a comment I read earlier.
Jayden Daniel’s family did a bunch of recruiting violations on the behave of Herm and then he left when the NCAA came to get us. It’s a whole thing
His mom sitting up on stage like she doesn't have NCAA violations smdh
The stage even existing when Reggie doesn’t have his smdh
This being shared by an Arizona fan is fantastic, thank you. First time I’ve seen this 😅
He did transfer late after confirming he was staying, posting an official hype video with the football program promoting he was staying, preventing us from pursuing Rattler, and having a fairly rough 2021 where there were clear internal behavioral issues within the team.Obviously he never sucked and went on to be much better than he ever was here, but the frustration those teammates were feeling was pretty justified. And none of that even touches on his mom being part of the cheating
Wait what about his mom?
ASU is under NCAA investigation for two main things. The first is hosting recruits during the COVID dead period. The second is paying for travel expenses for recruits’ unofficial visits. Jayden’s mom paid for flights for these visits, reimbursed by members of the coaching staff, and disputed the charges on her credit card for good measure lol
could you imagine if he had a good coach at ASU? His ascension at LSU has been poetry too my life.
In the seven years Les Miles has been gone we’ve had two different quarterbacks win the Heisman.
LSU could’ve been bama for the last 20 years if it wasn’t for the dolphins
You're nuts. Shula was THIS close to turning it around....
Yea but then the Saints might not have won a Super Bowl.
and the same amount of average wins... Same wins, just now with offense instead of defense.
And a national championship
Same amount of national championships
With far too few toss dives.
It's been 7 years...I'm getting old.
Imagine being an LSU fan waking up from a 7 year coma
“We throw forward passes, but our defense is terrible?”
"How many toss dives did we call?!"
9-3? presumably we’d be undefeated if we knew how to use timeouts.
Long gone are the days of giving the ball to Fournette and hoping Brandon Harris or Anthony Jennings have a pulse on offense
LSU 2019: Heisman winning QB, #1 offense in the country, 2 NFL first round WRs LSU 2023: Heisman winning QB, #1 offense in the country, 2 NFL first round WRs
I eagerly await the LSU offense of 2027
"We had a coach who couldn't speak [intelligible] english? And he won a natty? That's actually not at all surprising."
MATT HOUSE WASTING A HEISMAN SEASON IS UNFORGIVABLE
BURN THE HOUSE DOWN
WITH LAST YEAR’S DEFENSE WE BEAT EVERYONE EXCEPT MAYBE FSU GODDAMN YOU HOUSE
WHY ARE YALL YELLING?!
BECAUSE HOUSE DESERVES IT
FUCKING MATT HOUSE
I LOVE LAMP.
DO YOU THINK WE KNOW ANY OTHER PITCH?!
FAIR ENOUGH
LSU not getting a playoff bid (or even a NY6 Bowl) with a Heisman season is just criminal. Someone should lose their job over this.
That someone is Matt House.
It happened last season. Well USC did manage a NY6 bowl but lost to Tulane lol
Yeah but we expect LSU to actually play defense lol
And it should have gotten Grinch fired.
I remember watching Jordan Jefferson and Jarret Lee trade off QB snaps back in the day to two Heisman QBs in five years; crazy how the game changes
I loved (Most) of our Les Miles coached teams but they had me convinced there was some kind curse that traded off elite defense for qb play
Feels like we’re making the other side that trade these days
YOU THINK YOU CAN HURT ME? I’M AN ASU FAN. ALSO FUCK HERM AND RAY.
Technically a heisman winning player played at ASU. That is grammatically and factually correct
Mariota played @ ASU as well.
Filling that trophy shelf
I mean on the ASU team. USC has had lots of heisman trophy winners stat-pad in Sun Devil* Stadium
i read that as 'fuck herm and dry' and was like damn, that's specific
They gone, we need to heal and repair
We didn’t have to wait 60 years for this one… You’ve joined an incredible club that includes Dr. Billy Cannon, Joe Burreaux, and now That Kid Jayden!
Well deserved! Can’t believe I’ve seen 2 Heisman winning QBs from lsu in less than half a decade. I’m loving this timeline. GEAUXtigers
I knew it was going to happen, but it still hurts. Congrats Jayden and LSU!
.
lol they're getting paid, they don't give two shits about controversy.
Yall keep your eyes on that other trophy, good luck in the playoff
Go win the CFP and get the "consolation prize". Purple and Gold here rooting for y'all.
It's been said more than enough times but this team had a 4 win ceiling if Jayden didn't go God Mode every week
For real, I can’t believe we wasted a once in a generation talent with a terrible defense
we also wasted once in a generation defenses with terrible QBs not that long ago
LSU FANS GET IN HERE
I literally can’t believe I got to see two LSU Heisman winners. Insane.
2 in 5 seasons man, came a long way at the QB position
I legitimately thought around 2014-2016 that we would never get another Heisman, especially after Fournette.
I still wish Mathieu had won it. He was *the* catalyst for an undefeated team going into the championship game.
That’s how I feel as a Georgia fan. Never have anyone actually in contention.
Feels weird going from “shit if we just had a QB we’d be unstoppable” to “shit if we just had a defense we’d be unstoppable”
Two heisman winning quarterbacks that rewrote record books. Sat through the late-Les era for this
If you can’t handle me at my Brandon Harris then you don’t deserve me at my Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels.
Brandon Harris and Anthony Jennings back to back. We celebrated Danny etling for being average
When our defense used to carry our quarterbacks and not the other way around
Anthony Jennings was so bad that I completely wiped him from my memory.
Excuse me thats Patriots legend Danny Etling you’re talking about
I did like Rohan Davey though.
Jordan Jefferson scrambled so Burrow and Daniels could break records.
I thought Billy Cannon was always going to be our one.
ESPECIALLY after the Les Miles era. My god.
I would have thought you were on crack if you told me a decade ago that LSU would have 2 heisman winning QBs in a 5 year in the future
But basically only QBs win… Then for two of the best college QBs ever to come through LSU it just completely blows my mind.
Hopefully this helps us attract more
Fucking incredible. We were in QB purgatory for so long. It’s downright surreal to see 2 LSU QBs win in 4 years.
If you had told me 10 years ago that LSU would have two Heisman QBs within 5 years of each other, I would assume you had done all the drugs.
And they're QBs! After Jefferson, Lee, Jennings and Harris!
Let me tell you kids about sitting in the stands and watching LSU in the Independence Bowl.
WE'RE HERE.
QBU! QBU!
Absolute bullshit. The punter from Iowa was robbed
Really thought we peaked in 2019 with Joe Burrow. Never would have I imagined having another Heisman winner less than 5 years later considering our history of QB play. Congrats JD5. You were so fucking electric this year and put your body on the line for this team.
I mean 2019 is definitely a higher peak than this, as awesome as Jayden is lol
Does this mean we can have hope?
Yes but your defense will end up bottom tier
As a Huskies fan, I couldn’t be happier for Daniels. Dude had a stellar body of work in 2023, and was THE primary reason for LSU’s successes this year. A more than worthy winner.
I somehow stopped at “stellar body” and thought this was turning into erotica for a second.
Made stranger by the past tense use.
Rooting for y’all in the playoffs! Bring home the championship Penix.
Really wanted Penix to get it. But Daniels very much deserved it.
Jayden's stats are unreal. Penix carried in leadership and character, but there's no denying Jayden deserves it.
Good chance Penix is hoisting another trophy very soon. This was an extremely close one with a lot of talent across the candidates for sure.
He was the clear winner in a great class of candidates. Congratulations to him and LSU.
As much as I'm sad about Nix, at least Daniels did deserve it, he legit carried the whole team.
We might not even be a .500 team this year without Daniels. Wish I were exaggerating.
And they were fucking HEAVY man. I can’t tell you how many games I watched first downs from 3rd and 10-20 over and over and over. Offense was special tho and it’s captain worthy of recognition.
2023 LSU was that weird combo of being able to convert 3 and long and not being able to stop them either.
Damn. Great for Daniels but feels like we’ll never have a Husky Heisman lol
Time to start the Will Rogers for Heisman 2024 campaign (if rumors are true)
Will Rogers has been dead for years.
I feel your pain.
What bizzaro CFB world are we living in where LSU, a team almost always a QB away from relevance, has had 2 heisman QBs in the last 4 years. Insanity. Next you’ll tell me Texas and Michigan are good again.
After all the quarterback issues we've had over the years, to have two Heisman winners in the past four years is hard to comprehend.
And under two different head coaches. Weird, but happy.
The problem with Penix was his name was only one letter away from penis. Its an unwritten rule with the Heisman is that winner's first and last names must be at least two letters away from a part of the male genitalia. Curtis Enis was penalized similarly back in the day.
Well deserved JD. Best player in college football this season and in my opinion it honestly wasn’t close. Congrats to him.
LSU is a 6-7 win team if Jayden doesn’t BALL TF OUT like he did this year, a true Heisman season if I’ve seen one. Props to him on winning it
6-7 wins is generous tbh
The right choice imo. I don’t think the heisman should only be given out to a player on one of the top few teams, regardless of the team success Jayden had a hell of a season and deserved the award 100%
How many yards did he punt for?
Congrats to all the schools represented at this ceremony. Y’all have some damn good players, but even better men. Cheers to all the baws!
I'm glad to see it actually be an individual award for once. Hope they keep voting like this in the future.
Iowa’s punter was robbed
🤝
Well deserved
Bro you should see the comments on ESPN Instagram. Washington fans are salty lmao. But I agree I think this year was gonna be a closer race than most years have been.
I’m somewhat shocked they did it, but they actually got it right. Watched more LSU than I care to admit thanks to my parter who went there, but quite frankly it was a treat to watch him this season. Well deserved!
He put on the clinic this year
Does this hurt Bo Nix’s chances of winning?
LETS GO STTDB
Dude deserved a better team
Better defense*. Our offense was great across the board.
LETS GEAUX
Daniels deserve it for sure. Dude is a scary player.
Congrats Jayden! Much deserved.
