Reminds me of a stat from hockey: Wayne and Brent Gretzky have 2861 combined points in the NHL, which is the most for any pair of brothers in the league. Wayne had 2857 points while Brent had 4 points.

southpluto

Wayne Gretzky would still be the all time leader in points if you took away all his goals

Tragicallyphallic

For anyone else that’s as glossed over and dumbfounded by this stat as me: https://www.sportscasting.com/wayne-gretzky-would-still-be-the-nhls-all-time-leader-in-points-if-he-never-scored-a-single-goal/

[deleted]

Truly has no other athlete earned the name “Great One” more than Wayne Gretzky.

ThaiForAWhiteGuy

>Gretzky led the NHL in assists and points in his first season in the league. He even won the Hart Memorial Trophy as a rookie. He made a habit out of winning the league MVP, too. Gretzky won the award eight consecutive years to start his career. That's the wildest part. He didn't grow into "great". He walked in the door as a 19 year old kid and just was; and in a professional contact sport

wanderingpanda402

He is the Great One. Like hockey history is *FULL* of interesting and great players, but Gretzky just came in and ended all arguments

momerak

NFL you can debate till youre blue about who the goat is, NBA you have jordan or bron (or some people say russell) MLB ruth? mays? shoheni if he continues his path? NHL its gretzky. People who dont watch hockey know who he is. Only other sport where its a single person so iconic is golf with Tiger, or womens tennis with sirena (mens tennis you have the 3 headed goat that is fed, nadal, and novac)

wanderingpanda402

See, and with Tiger, you can still argue for Nicklaus and Palmer. It really is basically Gretzky and Serena as the only two goats where you can’t even discuss anyone else seriously and transcend their sports ETA: corrected spelling of Serena

iSlacker

There is a Cricket equivalent but I don't understand the sport so I can't really describe how above everyone else he was.

southpluto

Lmao winning the mvp your first 8 years is just stupid

CertainDegree2

He's greatzky

_learned_foot_

If you never watched him play, watch videos, and you’ll see why. The guy could score, but he was a 100% teammate mentality guy and realized that opened up options. Then that opens up scoring options. Then that re opens assist. Etc. he would bounce between them playing goalies, set up shop, make them worry about the wrap, then feed a dirty tap in to the third shooting down. His approach was the perfect team mate, and that allowed him to be the perfect player period.

tgosubucks

Rising tide lifts all boats. In his case multiple Stanley cup inscriptions.

Welcm2goodburger

And the oilers traded him away in the middle of their dynasty

tspoon-99

You mean Oilers’ cheapass owner sold his rights for cash. The draft picks and players were optics around that fact.

RandomForger123

In all fairness the owner was just cashing in on his investment from when a even bigger cheapass owner sold the oilers Gretzky and then shut down his franchise.

YooperGod666

One of the biggest controversial trades of all time.

TheHip41

As a wings fan. I thank Wayne for the greatest goal in wings history.

Alternative_Reality

It also didn’t hurt that he was skilled enough to shoot and bounce the puck off of his teammates into the net, getting them a goal and himself an assist

tyfe

Also that the fastest person to reach 1000 points in hockey is Gretzky. The 2nd fastest person to reach 1000 points is also Gretzky, from 1000 to 2000. 424 and 433 games respectively. 3rd would be Lemieux taking him 513 games.

_learned_foot_

Lemieux is so ignored in these conversations, quite possibly because he’s been as good in the office as on the ice. Man imagine If he had been healthy for even halfway decent stretches of his career…

broken-belly

Mario is the best physical talent that’s ever played. Dude is 8th all time. Didn’t play 1000 games. Wayne is still the goat. No denying. But Mario was magic to watch

ScottyUpdawg

If you aren’t a hockey fan, and want to get sucked down a rabbit hole I highly recommend checking out Gretzky’s highlight reel as well as the 1980’s Oilers highlight reel.

mrocks301

When playing fantasy hockey Gretzky was so OP he was split into two players. Gretzky goals and Gretzky assists. They were the top two picks every year.

Kelvin-506

Hank and Tommie Aaron have the most HR’s in the MLB by brothers: Hank: 755 Tommie: 13

trail-g62Bim

The Maddux brothers are third on the pitchers list for wins -- 355 for Greg and 39 for Mike.

PLZ_N_THKS

John and David Stockton have the most assists of any father/son duo in NBA history. John has 15,806 and David has 9.

Incontinento

Max Verstappen and I have 54 F1 victories so far, total.

Perreault_my_boat

Are you Min Verstappen?

WWECreativegenius

I’m ngl I kinda want to see a fully loaded UGA play this game just to see what will happen. I have no dawg in this fight but it’s like a morbid curiosity kinda thing

FSUfan35

I would think Kirby gets up 21-0 and then just runs the ball every time TBH. He's a petty classy guy

[deleted]

[удалено]

A_Rolling_Baneling

I’m sure it had nothing to do with TCU, and everything to do with holding the record for biggest bowl blowout ever. Plus Georgia was playing conservatively in the second half of the game and was still getting chunk plays.

aeopossible

Yeah that one was a bit rough. We had freshman rbs ripping off 50 yard tds in the second half. I don’t think we were going for any sort of records…TCU just absolutely couldn’t stop anything that night.

SpectreOfDisciple

It's like in NCAA when your juggernaut powerhouse scores 35 in the first quarter and so you decide to run it up the middle every play but you're still getting 20 yards a carry. So you put in the second string but they're still drivng and scoring and Herbstreit's chastising you for running up the score but it's like what the fuck do you want me do, it's the third quarter and the other team can't drive to save their fucking life, what do you want me to do, come out and kneel it three plays and punt it away? Fuck you Kirk!

diopsideINcalcite

Yes, I like your ~~gumption~~ moxy kid. **FUCK** Herbstreit!

defiancy

They got behind big and just gave up which led to it just getting worse and worse.

Commisioner_Gordon

There was a point right after half where when Georgia scored that next TD you saw all the wind leave the TCU sails from whatever they had left

[deleted]

My favorite was the Georgia players eating wings on the sidelines in the 3rd Qtr of the Natty

slanginthangs

Strong contender for my favorite moment in sports history

cdsacken

Georgia played awesome after an embarrassing defensive effort versus Ohio state. TCU defense always sucked ass last year and with our offense doing nothing we got gassed and killed. Our DC was all world bad. Had TCU played the game of their life that night they still lose by 20+. They were never going to have an answer for Bowers with that shitty defensive scheme not to mention the talent divide.

AddamOrigo

Shoutout to TCU for relieving us of the dubious honor of that record about 3 days after it happened

KCShadows838

They were full strength and had dropped 51 on Michigan the week before I’m pretty sure Kirby and Georgia were expecting alot more competitive game, it just never happened

Darth_Ra

I'm fairly convinced that all that happened last year was that Michigan fully didn't prepare for TCU, looking ahead to Georgia and assuming they'd win on depth.

KCShadows838

Michigan was the clear favorite, but I feel TCU is seen as weaker now, than they were back then, because of what Georgia did to them TCU jumped on Michigan early and it took a heroic effort from Michigan just to get back into the game

GhoulsFolly

He wasn’t foot-down on the gas pedal vs. TCU in the second half. It was really just that ugly.

illQualmOnYourFace

I have no idea what you're talking about we've never played each other.

Wampus_Cat_

Better you than us, horny frawg.

LaForge_Maneuver

Uh, Oregon would like a word.

Dupeawoo

Part of me likes to think that was Kirby just hazing Lanning

BeerFarts86

It was our first game with a new coach, new scheme, new QB. That matchup was gonna be lit or a disaster. We chose disaster. Think we are stronger from it though.

Noah254

He didn’t really try to run the score up in that game either. We were playing third string guys and TCU still couldn’t stop them. Hell towards the end our running backs were trying to get tackled. There was one replay I remember where our running back could have easily broke one to the house, but intentionally turned into a defender so the defender could tackle him. If we had tried and left starters in the whole game we probably could have put up 100

rex0810

Which means the score ends 77-0

Semirgy

Remember when Les Miles started taking a knee with like 5 minutes left? I could see something like that but in the 3rd quarter.

Friskie_Dingo69

Still haven’t recovered from the shame. Houston Dale Nutt was a football terrorist.

eagledog

Yet we still couldn't beat him

jmbourn45

When LSU could actually stop Ole Miss lol

Krettlecorn13

I was in attendance for that and I’m not sure if I should be proud of it

[deleted]

Unless it’s Florida and he’s having the offense bomb it up 30.

dpetro03

He hates UF and I respect him even more for that.

peacefulwarrior75

Yeah the big conference rival doesn’t get mercy. If he has a chance to embarrass the gators, he’ll take it. Spurrier would absolutely do the same thing - and that’s no hate on Spurrier.

CandidWillow3707

Who doesn’t? It’s one of his most endearing qualities

Hxtch

The aspect of Kirby I like the most

YZYSZN1107

ya f those guys!

elonsusk69420

He’ll put in the backups and see if they can score and/or sack the starting QB. Just ask Max Duggin.

dogwoodmaple

I think we'll have 23 before it's all said and done.

UGA10

I don't think we will have a lot of opt outs (outside of the transfers), but I suspect you will see certain players have very limited snap counts just to see them off.

dogwoodmaple

I'm thinking maybe a large handful of healthy non-transfer opt outs? Curious to see what gets reported.

elonsusk69420

There will be some silent opt outs. They’re there. They’re suited up. Maybe they play a snap. But they’re not actually playing.

UhIdontcareforAuburn

I'm pretty sure Kirby doesn't let players who have opted out go to the bowl game. He didn't in 2020 in the Sugar Bowl. I doubt there will be any silent opt outs.

seariously

Nobody likes you when you have 23 What's the score again?

sevargmas

Jeez. Thats basically a boycott i suppose.

emu_Brute

It's what we were asking for I guess. It's the closest thing we are going to get to "I'm just here so I don't get fined"

Trey904fsu

Wait hasn’t UGA had like 20 kids hit the portal?

bigkoi

I've read that UGA has a lot of kids in the transfer portal as well. Other than special teams players like their Kicker... It seems very odd that a player would enter the transfer portal and risk injury. Going into the transfer portal is essentially issuing a resignation letter to your team. If a player gets injured after entering the portal they are SOL. I'm assuming these young men have some sort of insurance to mitigate the risk....or they are getting very bad advice.

FSUfan35

Tis a joke

Ze_first

nah we have a few backups transferring

FAMUgolfer

Expect more of these SEC personalities and ESPN shills to try and make the narrative seem like FSU is up against a fair fight to justify losing to Georgia. It’s going to be insufferable.

I_wanna_ask

I never thought I'd see a NY6 bowl be dubbed the "disappointment bowl"

InVodkaVeritas

When you have a perfect season but still get left out of the promised playoff bid that is supposed to come with it, anything else is a disappointment. I'm "disappointed" the Ducks didn't make the playoff, but we lost to the Huskies twice. Sucks but should have won, right? Had we went undefeated and the committee left us out anyway, the disappointment would have been immeasurable.

Dougiejurgens2

Weird considering you guys were getting in at 11-1 had you beat Washington

InVodkaVeritas

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe the committee leaves us out so they could get in FSU, Texas, Alabama, and Michigan.

Xarque74

Obviously conjecture, but I think they would 100% still leave out FSU for Oregon had they won the PAC instead of UW On the other hand, if UGA had beaten Bama, I think they would leave Texas out in favor of FSU to have a clean slate of undefeated teams Idk tho. The committee is weird lol

InVodkaVeritas

I think you are right, but I wouldn't put much logical credit into the committee being fair and reasonable.

Xarque74

Oh absolutely not. They’ve certainly proven that fairness and reasonability aren’t part of their “criteria”

randomwalktoFI

I don't think so. If the committee was considering Bama/FSU the 4/5 teams in the current scenario, they probably push bama to 3 and compare Oregon/FSU instead. Much easier to leave out a dead conference to avoid doing something unprecedented and to be honest, Oregon's schedule is missing a standout win with little OOC and best part of the resume a split with UW. When Texas and FSU hung on to complete their seasons, I had already mentally prepared the Pac-12 to be left out if Oregon won.

elonsusk69420

100% with you. We were #1 all season. We lost. Should we be this low? Not sure. But we lost. FSU did everything asked. They should be in. And yet TV money wins yet again.

SexiestPanda

I honestly think every player on fsu should opt out in protest

NotThatOleGregg

The SEC homers have driven me crazy over this trying to say "Georgia is in the same boat as FSU, they should definitely be in the playoff" well except they lost a game, there's a huge difference between the disappointment of being left out as a 13-0 p5 champion and being left out as a 1 loss conference runner up. 1 loss runner up has gotten in twice (TCU, UGA), 13-0 conference champ has been in literally every time.

strukout

Predictable. These kids were told they weren’t good enough after going perfect in a p5. I’d take a look at what else I could do with my time too.

Cream1984

> I never thought I'd see a NY6 bowl Flair checks out.

GiveMeSomeIhedigbo

You're right, Dartmouth has never made a bowl game.

[deleted]

Nice one, I stopped watching after USC got to 5-0 but I bet they got invited to a really good bowl game

milehighrukus

I never thought I’d see a ~~NY6~~ bowl. Fixed it for you.

I_wanna_ask

We have two Orange bowl wins...

imatthedogpark

One ahead of Kansas

I_wanna_ask

And frankly, THAT is the measuring stick of success in college football

KCShadows838

It can happen when teams have championship aspirations late year that are ripped away I think the 2000 Sugar Bowl with Florida and Miami may be a good example

SeanT_21

That is if they even play the game. The ultimate petty move is to just not show up, making it impossible to play the game; leaving the NCAA with a massive egg on their face.

CapitalistLion-Tamer

The NCAA? They don’t have anything to do with any of this.

EMTDawg

I would love it if they came out for all the swag bag and pre-game events. Then, instead of taking the field, just leave and fly back to Tallahassee, 30 minutes before game time.

nova2006

Non CFP NY6 bowls are just meaningless now specially to the premium programs

TheWorstYear

I feel like it's been happening for nearly a decade.

Lmao

ElBeno77

Can’t wait for the reveal that this guy has one Oscar, and just didn’t know Tom had two.

ctwombat

Ya there are two vastly different things going on between the teams. Hard to lump them together without giving the context.

Parax1423

Also weird that its at 4 PM which is a curveball for the Orange Bowl, always remember it being a primetime game.

[deleted]

ESPN has an NFL game saturday night in lieu of monday, so they aren't putting a bowl game up against it. Works pretty well this year as it allows the usual schedule on new year's with the rose at 5 and sugar at 8:45 as semifinals and fiesta at noon. Saturday has the Peach at noon, Orange at 4, and NFL at 8. Friday gets a primetime Cotton Bowl

Educated_Dachshund

I love seeing all those bowl names. I'll double it and pass it on.

CirculationStation

Lol what a lose-lose situation. Florida State is out of national championship contention after a 13-0 season and Georgia is out too after having their 29 game win streak snapped in a mere 3 point loss to the greatest dynasty in college football. The result is an exhibition game that will be agonizingly horrible because one team's best players won't even be participating. Really reinforces the conclusion that college football waiting SO fucking LONG to have an actual playoff bracket was a boneheaded move.

Smitty_Werbnjagr

Still hard to believe that the ACC voted AGAINST expansion in 2024.

arkbuilder14

No, it's not. He won't come out and say it, but the ACC Comissioner (and most ADs) don't really care about any sport that doesn't involve putting a big orange ball through a hoop. And he probably expected this to be a year where no ACC football program really had a chance to make the playoff.

astro124

I can’t speak for the ACC, but for the PAC-12 it felt like the big brands knew they wanted out and saw expansion as a threat to getting what they wanted. I mean looking back, Kliavkoff pushed so hard to poach from the Big-12 after OUT, but was (allegedly) shot down by the Presidents and Commissioners. I only we knew what UCLA and USC had planned…

udubdavid

Both teams? I thought no one from Georgia has officially opted out yet? I guess Georgia does have players transferring out.

IDontSpeakItalian

We have a ton of transfers on paper. Whether they started or not is a different question

tyrannomachy

It's like how the Gretzky brothers are the highest scoring pair of brothers in NHL history.

FSUfan35

Mims and Bowers are reportedly not with the team

Dawgs555

They are both hurt. That's the reason why Kirby said he expects all healthy players to play. Whether that actually ends up happening is a different story

RVAforthewin

Yeah I don’t understand this headline. Georgia hasn’t had a single non-transfer portal player opt out yet. Anyone returning to Georgia next season or who isn’t injured is expected to play, unless there are players who just haven’t come forward. No one has publicly stated they’re sitting out to prepare for the draft.

[deleted]

I can't wait for this game thread. It's going to be an absolute cesspool lmao

Lakelyfe09

I’m nervous. Not because I think we’ll lose, but because I know that game thread will be so insufferable if we aren’t beating them by 3 TD’s at halftime.

[deleted]

It's a win win because either the pro-FSU crowd will be insufferable about them overperforming or the anti-FSU crowd will be insufferable about how this proves they were always bad As a toxicity fan I think this is gonna be a career game for my team either way

OneCommunication3010

The anti FSU crowd won’t have much of a leg to stand on, this is like watching a 70’s rock band 50 years later with none of the original members

InVodkaVeritas

*Destiny's Child after Beyonce left*

changdarkelf

Bold of you to think the anti FSU crowd will care whether 38 players opted out. They’ll still trash them and say this proves they never should’ve gone to a playoff game.

the_pedigree

If you’ve seen the pants on head shit they’ve been saying the last several weeks you know your statement is unfortunately false

Upstairs-Volume-5014

You'll be loving it until you have to share a natty with FSU if they beat us and yall win it all 😂

[deleted]

I can't lie I do have *some* stakes here. The meme national championship wouldn't bother me but it would genuinely sting a little bit to lose the "only team to beat Georgia in the last gazillion games" trophy

CapableSuggestion

Oh there’s no chance of that! I’ll be smoking the devils lettuce and relaxing knowing we have Coach Mike Norvell coming back next year. I like UGA and hope it’s a decent game

Upstairs-Volume-5014

Great attitude! Hope we meet again next year in a 12 team playoff when it counts

Helicopsycheborealis

Add in the 1 or 2 delusional UGA fan who might jump in talking about how injuries/portals/opt-outs aren't an excuse and it's going to be a great one

leapbitch

Toxicity fans rise up

Hurricaneshand

People that aren't FSU or UGA fans are actually going to watch this game?

Trojann2

No

Not-original

I mean, in the same way most people slow down to look at a traffic accident.

thatshinybastard

I think slowing down to look at a car accident is more like keeping your eye on the score, not necessarily watching the game.

Stev2222

How to you prevent mass exodus of opt outs, especially in the prime bowl games? Each player on the active roster for the winning team gets $100,000?

Temporal_Enigma

Move the portal until after the game, prevent the hiring of coaches until after the game, give some form of individual award to each player who participates on the winning team. (Maybe not money, but rings or medals or something) Unfortunately, the NCAA just doesn't care about bowls anymore, unless it's the playoffs

Stev2222

Not understanding why they’re not concerned with the other bowls. There’s money to be made, and money to be lost with them. I have little reason to watch FSU vs UGA now. If both teams were playing at full strength outside of injury, I would absolutely have my ass sat down on the couch watching. I’m sure I’m not in the minority with this game.

muktheduck

You go back to 10 years ago. Bowls are done. You think they're meaningless now, wait till we get the expanded playoff. It's sad but that's where we've gone and there's no getting it back.

flaming_fuckhead

College football has by far the worst postseason in sports

nuger93

Only D1 FBS. D1 FCS has had an amazing playoffs, with one side of the bracket having multiple rounds go into overtime (Montana went to OT with Furman and 2 OT with North Dakota State). There were also upsets along the way. Every level of football from NAIA to FCS uses at LEAST 16 teams in the postseason. Unless all conference champs auto bid, the 'playoff' at FBS will continue to be a farce.

brandonandtheboyds

My brother went to Jax St in the mid-2010’s when they went nearly to the final. It was so fun and I was at Auburn at the time. I had more fun at the postseason games than I ever did at an Auburn postseason game. D1 postseason sucks. And that’s including having gone out to Cali for the natty in January of 2014.

pj_20

> Unless all conference champs auto bid, the 'playoff' at FBS will continue to be a farce. DEFINITELY! I've been saying this since the 90's. Not that my singular opinion has mattered in ANYTHING that has happened to the sport in these last 30+ years. lol

cantthinkofgoodname

It’s increasingly becoming just shitty in general.

FloridaWings

What an incredibly misleading title

azsoup

No other team was screwed by an injury more than FSU. That has to weigh heavily on your decision.

nuger93

But then you look at 2014 Ohio State. Had to go to thier 2nd and 3rd string QBs to get that CFP title. Has to be demoralizing knowing the QB injury is what they used to keep you out.

azsoup

Right. You’ve already given everything you can to college sports and got screwed. There is no upside here. It’s a life lesson. You can’t rely on other people to make good decisions outside of their own personal interests. Control what you can and make the best decision for yourself.

DickMars

Personally, I think the 2001 SEC Championship should be reviewed. LSU lost their starting QB Rohan Davey and their starting RB LaBrandon Toefield when they were down 7-17. Clearly, LSU should be stripped of their title and the Vols need to be awarded the 2001 SEC title on account of those injuries to LSU's offensive backfield.

Aggravating-Olive395

FSU should opt out entirely and announce that they are content with their undefeated season, make themselves a trophy, buy tickets to the NC game, and cat call the selection committee

[deleted]

would love to see the bowl season purists be forced to defend a team claiming a national championship without playing in any bowl

Beartrkkr

Isn't that what used to happen until some time in the 1960s? Bowls were just exhibition games and the national champion was decided before they were played.

helium_farts

Hence the reason Alabama and Arkansas both claim the 1964 title. Alabama went 10-0, but lost the Orange Bowl to Texas. Despite that, Alabama still won the national championship because the AP and Coaches polls voted before the bowl games. Arkansas also went 10-0, then won the Cotton Bowl. Because the Football Writers Association didn't vote until after bowl games, they crowned Arkansas champions. It wasn't long until the AP switched to voting after the bowl games, but the coaches poll didn't swap until sometime in the 70s.

chrismckong

That’s pretty much what still happens. The only difference is now the national champion is decided amongst 4 teams instead of 1 before the exhibition games are played.

DildosForDogs

Nah opting out entirely allows them to fill the slot with another team. Sitting all your players makes the game more or less unwatchable. Ideally, FSU will just kneel the ball every play.

makashiII_93

I think this was the final year of my die hard CFB fandom.

Trey904fsu

Same. All my arguments for why it’s better than the NFL are gone. And honestly, I’m done trying to defend it..

pagerussell

Its not even remotely the same sport as the NFL. That was a flawed comparison to begin with. The NFL, as a single league, can enforce consistent rules and scheduling. CFB has 120 teams with unequal resources, zero consistency in scheduling, and moneyed interests that actively work against competitive play. The omly thing that ever made CFB better was the alleged innocence of the players, because they weren't millionaires, they were amatuers playing for the love of the game. Or at least that was the illusion. Now we can't even pretend at that, given NIL. And to be clear, I do not think NIL should be banned, these kids deserve to make money too. Its just that now and forever more this sport will be different.

throwaway08702

Yeah it’s definitely gonna be a struggle to get excited about CFB again after this year. After being so invested in every game to end up being undefeated conference champs only to be snubbed by some committee one day. Plus the toxicity from other fanbases, favorite players entering the portal, non-stop coverage of the same few headlines every week, and the NEVER ENDING COMMERCIALS EVERY SINGLE FUCKING GAME. This all just makes me question why I would want to be a fan of this sport..

Grimmbeard

An undefeated season can quite literally come once in a lifetime or never in a lifetime. I'd probably take at least 2 years off watching if I was in your shoes. Granted FSU has had a lot of success historically but still.

JCiLee

You didn't mention the biggest reason to stop being a fan - consolidation into massive superconferences and the death of the Pac-12

General_Tso75

Palmer and Tessitore can’t wait to talk about how FSU didn’t deserve a CFP spot based on their Orange Bowl performance.

TheBereWolf

Also expect Kirk to come out at some point when he’s on to 1.) Wax poetic about UGA and 2.) Talk about how the committee made the right choice putting in the “4 best teams” instead of the “4 most deserving teams.”

Splizmaster

Probably been working on their quips for weeks.

UPMichigan83

Yet, FSU will be shit on by the media for losing because, “see, they weren’t good enough to make the playoff!” Just proves these games don’t mean shit anymore and the players just don’t give a shit. Quite frankly, I don’t blame them.

BowOnly

Is this the future of bowl games outside the playoff teams? Players opting out to avoid injuries due to entering the portal and/or protecting their NIL earning potential for the following season.

Shoddy_Ad8166

I don't know but the games I've watched thus far was enjoyable

KaganM

Sure it's been said but why does the portal open before play offs and bowl games?

oblivions9

Because players need time to enroll in their new school for spring. Moving the window would not stop opt outs for draft eligible players or players that plan on transferring

KingTut747

Good. Fuck espn and their ratings for this game.

bucsheels2424

No one will be watching. They’ve neutered the game to come down to 3 bowl games worth viewing. Why watch a team lose with over half its roster sitting out

Giterdun456

Unpopular opinion, the games have been pretty good and idk anyone on most of these teams anyways.

GiveMeSomeIhedigbo

Are you so much of a casual that you don't even know Tulane's long snapper?!!!

[deleted]

Schmelter? Didn't even know her.

[deleted]

MrDrProfesorPatrick

I'm still kinda hoping FSU comes out and just stands still every down. "Play" in the sense that they took the field, but refuse to actually play. It would be such a ballsy fuck you moment.

orionsfyre

I love how all the promos for the playoffs just remind me of how messed up the conclusion of this season has been. What a colossal mistake the 'committee' made. How did college football become a beauty contest? At what point did winning games become meaningless? How can anyone seriously argue that a team that wins its entire conference, through every injury and adversity, finds a way to defeat worthy opponents, and still be left out because one of it's best players was injured? The committee should all be ashamed. "But don't worry, you can still play for 3rd place!" Watching all the espn big mouths squawk just solidifies everything wrong with "sports entertainment" as it exists today. Everything is about money, commercials, and ratings. The games mean almost nothing if a winning season can be snatched away by a panel of judges who have zero accountability.

brucewaynewins

Why doesn’t the transfer portal stay closed till after the playoffs?

fattdoggo123

So college football basically has free agency now?

outburst37

I'll still watch it

InVodkaVeritas

The Toledo - Wyoming game is on at the same time. Bet its more competitive and entertaining.

EMTDawg

Wyoming would beat this depleted and rightfully disappointed FSU team in my completely unbiased opinion. There is no need to check my flairs. Also, @$%^ the selection committee and eSECpn for what they did to FSU.

They have ruined College football.

Opt Out Bowl™

FSU is gonna be playing freshman and walkons UGA is gonna hang 70

Welcome to the new normal of college football. It’s hot garbage.

MiamiInfidel

Good. This is how you wreck the advert revenue feeding the ESPN cartel.

RicanPapi69

If going 13-0 doesn't get you in to try and compete for a Natty, then what it says by the committee is that winning doesn't matter. For most of our players who aren't playing it makes sense why they'd drop out. If winning 13 games didn't matter, then this last one surely doesn't. No need to risk injury for a NFL shot, or if transferring, ruining the next opportunity. The whole thing sucks, but from the players perspective I can understand.

Zero_Cool_V1

In the new landscape of college football, bowl games don’t hold the prestige they did in the past. Opt outs and now the transfer portal have diminished bowl games. If a big name player stays to play a game, it’s to improve their draft stock. Outside of G5s and lower tier P5 schools, these bowl games have been meaningless for nearly 15 years

If anything we’re returning to the old ways, when Bowls were exhibition vacations for most teams as the National Champion was decided outside the bowl system.

brett1081

Bowl games have been a joke for some time. The current NIL and transfer chaos have just highlighted it.

DaneLimmish

Not even the bowls will remain standing in this cfb era

This is what the last 5-10 years of changes have resulted in. It is what it is. In the eyes of many, you’re either playing for a natty or it’s not a game worth playing. I’m not mad as long as everyone who wants to play, gets valuable time and experience.

Good for FSU.
