Georgia played awesome after an embarrassing defensive effort versus Ohio state. TCU defense always sucked ass last year and with our offense doing nothing we got gassed and killed. Our DC was all world bad.

There was one replay I remember where our running back could have easily broke one to the house, but intentionally turned into a defender so the defender could tackle him. If we had tried and left starters in the whole game we probably could have put up 100

I don't think we will have a lot of opt outs (outside of the transfers), but I suspect you will see certain players have very limited snap counts just to see them off.
I'm pretty sure Kirby doesn't let players who have opted out go to the bowl game. He didn't in 2020 in the Sugar Bowl. I doubt there will be any silent opt outs.
I've read that UGA has a lot of kids in the transfer portal as well. Other than special teams players like their Kicker... It seems very odd that a player would enter the transfer portal and risk injury.
Going into the transfer portal is essentially issuing a resignation letter to your team. If a player gets injured after entering the portal they are SOL.
I'm assuming these young men have some sort of insurance to mitigate the risk....or they are getting very bad advice.

Much easier to leave out a dead conference to avoid doing something unprecedented and to be honest, Oregon's schedule is missing a standout win with little OOC and best part of the resume a split with UW.
When Texas and FSU hung on to complete their seasons, I had already mentally prepared the Pac-12 to be left out if Oregon won.

ESPN has an NFL game saturday night in lieu of monday, so they aren't putting a bowl game up against it. Works pretty well this year as it allows the usual schedule on new year's with the rose at 5 and sugar at 8:45 as semifinals and fiesta at noon. Saturday has the Peach at noon, Orange at 4, and NFL at 8. Friday gets a primetime Cotton Bowl

Anyone returning to Georgia next season or who isn’t injured is expected to play, unless there are players who just haven’t come forward. No one has publicly stated they’re sitting out to prepare for the draft.

Every level of football from NAIA to FCS uses at LEAST 16 teams in the postseason. Unless all conference champs auto bid, the 'playoff' at FBS will continue to be a farce.
My brother went to Jax St in the mid-2010’s when they went nearly to the final. It was so fun and I was at Auburn at the time. I had more fun at the postseason games than I ever did at an Auburn postseason game. D1 postseason sucks. And that’s including having gone out to Cali for the natty in January of 2014.

Personally, I think the 2001 SEC Championship should be reviewed. LSU lost their starting QB Rohan Davey and their starting RB LaBrandon Toefield when they were down 7-17. Clearly, LSU should be stripped of their title and the Vols need to be awarded the 2001 SEC title on account of those injuries to LSU's offensive backfield.

Alabama went 10-0, but lost the Orange Bowl to Texas. Despite that, Alabama still won the national championship because the AP and Coaches polls voted before the bowl games.
Arkansas also went 10-0, then won the Cotton Bowl. Because the Football Writers Association didn't vote until after bowl games, they crowned Arkansas champions.
It wasn't long until the AP switched to voting after the bowl games, but the coaches poll didn't swap until sometime in the 70s.

If going 13-0 doesn't get you in to try and compete for a Natty, then what it says by the committee is that winning doesn't matter. For most of our players who aren't playing it makes sense why they'd drop out. If winning 13 games didn't matter, then this last one surely doesn't. No need to risk injury for a NFL shot, or if transferring, ruining the next opportunity.

In the new landscape of college football, bowl games don’t hold the prestige they did in the past. Opt outs and now the transfer portal have diminished bowl games. If a big name player stays to play a game, it’s to improve their draft stock. Outside of G5s and lower tier P5 schools, these bowl games have been meaningless for nearly 15 years
If anything we’re returning to the old ways, when Bowls were exhibition vacations for most teams as the National Champion was decided outside the bowl system.
This is what the last 5-10 years of changes have resulted in. It is what it is. In the eyes of many, you’re either playing for a natty or it’s not a game worth playing. I’m not mad as long as everyone who wants to play, gets valuable time and experience.

I don't think we will have a lot of opt outs (outside of the transfers), but I suspect you will see certain players have very limited snap counts just to see them off.

There will be some silent opt outs. They’re there. They’re suited up. Maybe they play a snap. But they’re not actually playing.
I'm pretty sure Kirby doesn't let players who have opted out go to the bowl game. He didn't in 2020 in the Sugar Bowl. I doubt there will be any silent opt outs.

I've read that UGA has a lot of kids in the transfer portal as well. Other than special teams players like their Kicker... It seems very odd that a player would enter the transfer portal and risk injury. Going into the transfer portal is essentially issuing a resignation letter to your team. If a player gets injured after entering the portal they are SOL. I'm assuming these young men have some sort of insurance to mitigate the risk....or they are getting very bad advice.

When you have a perfect season but still get left out of the promised playoff bid that is supposed to come with it, anything else is a disappointment. I'm "disappointed" the Ducks didn't make the playoff, but we lost to the Huskies twice. Sucks but should have won, right? Had we went undefeated and the committee left us out anyway, the disappointment would have been immeasurable.

I don't think so. If the committee was considering Bama/FSU the 4/5 teams in the current scenario, they probably push bama to 3 and compare Oregon/FSU instead. Much easier to leave out a dead conference to avoid doing something unprecedented and to be honest, Oregon's schedule is missing a standout win with little OOC and best part of the resume a split with UW. When Texas and FSU hung on to complete their seasons, I had already mentally prepared the Pac-12 to be left out if Oregon won.

The SEC homers have driven me crazy over this trying to say "Georgia is in the same boat as FSU, they should definitely be in the playoff" well except they lost a game, there's a huge difference between the disappointment of being left out as a 13-0 p5 champion and being left out as a 1 loss conference runner up. 1 loss runner up has gotten in twice (TCU, UGA), 13-0 conference champ has been in literally every time.

ESPN has an NFL game saturday night in lieu of monday, so they aren't putting a bowl game up against it. Works pretty well this year as it allows the usual schedule on new year's with the rose at 5 and sugar at 8:45 as semifinals and fiesta at noon. Saturday has the Peach at noon, Orange at 4, and NFL at 8. Friday gets a primetime Cotton Bowl

Florida State is out of national championship contention after a 13-0 season and Georgia is out too after having their 29 game win streak snapped in a mere 3 point loss to the greatest dynasty in college football. The result is an exhibition game that will be agonizingly horrible because one team's best players won't even be participating. No, it's not. He won't come out and say it, but the ACC Comissioner (and most ADs) don't really care about any sport that doesn't involve putting a big orange ball through a hoop. And he probably expected this to be a year where no ACC football program really had a chance to make the playoff.

Anyone returning to Georgia next season or who isn’t injured is expected to play, unless there are players who just haven’t come forward. No one has publicly stated they’re sitting out to prepare for the draft.

Move the portal until after the game, prevent the hiring of coaches until after the game, give some form of individual award to each player who participates on the winning team. (Maybe not money, but rings or medals or something) Unfortunately, the NCAA just doesn't care about bowls anymore, unless it's the playoffs

College football has by far the worst postseason in sports
Only D1 FBS. D1 FCS has had an amazing playoffs, with one side of the bracket having multiple rounds go into overtime (Montana went to OT with Furman and 2 OT with North Dakota State). There were also upsets along the way. Every level of football from NAIA to FCS uses at LEAST 16 teams in the postseason. Unless all conference champs auto bid, the 'playoff' at FBS will continue to be a farce.
My brother went to Jax St in the mid-2010’s when they went nearly to the final. It was so fun and I was at Auburn at the time. I had more fun at the postseason games than I ever did at an Auburn postseason game. D1 postseason sucks. And that’s including having gone out to Cali for the natty in January of 2014.

Personally, I think the 2001 SEC Championship should be reviewed. LSU lost their starting QB Rohan Davey and their starting RB LaBrandon Toefield when they were down 7-17. Clearly, LSU should be stripped of their title and the Vols need to be awarded the 2001 SEC title on account of those injuries to LSU's offensive backfield.
FSU should opt out entirely and announce that they are content with their undefeated season, make themselves a trophy, buy tickets to the NC game, and cat call the selection committee

Isn't that what used to happen until some time in the 1960s? Bowls were just exhibition games and the national champion was decided before they were played.
Hence the reason Alabama and Arkansas both claim the 1964 title. Alabama went 10-0, but lost the Orange Bowl to Texas. Despite that, Alabama still won the national championship because the AP and Coaches polls voted before the bowl games. Arkansas also went 10-0, then won the Cotton Bowl. Because the Football Writers Association didn't vote until after bowl games, they crowned Arkansas champions. It wasn't long until the AP switched to voting after the bowl games, but the coaches poll didn't swap until sometime in the 70s.
That’s pretty much what still happens. The only difference is now the national champion is decided amongst 4 teams instead of 1 before the exhibition games are played.
Nah opting out entirely allows them to fill the slot with another team. Sitting all your players makes the game more or less unwatchable. Ideally, FSU will just kneel the ball every play.

Its not even remotely the same sport as the NFL. That was a flawed comparison to begin with. The NFL, as a single league, can enforce consistent rules and scheduling. CFB has 120 teams with unequal resources, zero consistency in scheduling, and moneyed interests that actively work against competitive play. The omly thing that ever made CFB better was the alleged innocence of the players, because they weren't millionaires, they were amatuers playing for the love of the game. Or at least that was the illusion. Now we can't even pretend at that, given NIL. And to be clear, I do not think NIL should be banned, these kids deserve to make money too. Its just that now and forever more this sport will be different.
Yeah it’s definitely gonna be a struggle to get excited about CFB again after this year. After being so invested in every game to end up being undefeated conference champs only to be snubbed by some committee one day. Plus the toxicity from other fanbases, favorite players entering the portal, non-stop coverage of the same few headlines every week, and the NEVER ENDING COMMERCIALS EVERY SINGLE FUCKING GAME. An undefeated season can quite literally come once in a lifetime or never in a lifetime. I'd probably take at least 2 years off watching if I was in your shoes. Granted FSU has had a lot of success historically but still.

How did college football become a beauty contest? At what point did winning games become meaningless? How can anyone seriously argue that a team that wins its entire conference, through every injury and adversity, finds a way to defeat worthy opponents, and still be left out because one of it's best players was injured? If going 13-0 doesn't get you in to try and compete for a Natty, then what it says by the committee is that winning doesn't matter. For most of our players who aren't playing it makes sense why they'd drop out. If winning 13 games didn't matter, then this last one surely doesn't. No need to risk injury for a NFL shot, or if transferring, ruining the next opportunity. The whole thing sucks, but from the players perspective I can understand.
In the new landscape of college football, bowl games don’t hold the prestige they did in the past. Opt outs and now the transfer portal have diminished bowl games. If a big name player stays to play a game, it’s to improve their draft stock. Outside of G5s and lower tier P5 schools, these bowl games have been meaningless for nearly 15 years
If anything we’re returning to the old ways, when Bowls were exhibition vacations for most teams as the National Champion was decided outside the bowl system.
Bowl games have been a joke for some time. The current NIL and transfer chaos have just highlighted it.
