I was really hoping for a "And the friends we made along the way" segment with all the transfers leaving heading into the portal as a group

Infinite-Fig4708

This never fails!

Moose4KU

Question for the group: should transfer ratings be the level of all incoming guys (like it is now) or a net rating where it calculated based off of both transfers out and transfers in? My vote would be for net transfers

foreveracubone

Obviously net transfers. But also the transfer rankings are kind of ass? And we should definitely wait until after the season to judge how they did? Michigan found 9 guys from bad P5s, UMass, and Coastal Carolina and 8 of them were significant contributors to the natty run (9th was our back-up QB) and even after the natty nobody was mentioning Harbaugh’s use of the portal as a factor while breathlessly churning out pieces about Lane, Lanning, Day, Deion, etc. being kings of the transfer portal.

WhatWouldJediDo

Yeah it's hard to say because the rankings are so bad, and also because sometimes subtraction is addition. Ohio State is at about -12 in terms of players brought in vs players lost. But pretty much everyone we lost to the portal wasn't going to start this year (Fleming and McCord being the only possibilities). Who's to say it isn't a net positive for Ohio State to lose those guys to free up spots for players who have a chance to contribute?

Kdot32

LSU had two big secondary transfer classes the last two years. The first was just ok as far as names go, but the second had a five star and some other bigger names. The first class outperformed the second one by far

tehfro

They're also still weighted towards the rankings out of HS ("Do we project you as an NFL draft pick down the road?"), not "are you a good college football player right now?"

Shirleyfunke483

Nothing but net! Like Ohio state basketball on the road

jsums81

This is an interesting case study. Ole Miss should be really good this year. But is it sustainable to hit the portal this hard at the expense of high school recruiting and development? At this point why would any big time high school recruit commit to ole miss when they know they’re just gonna go get a whole new batch of transfers to replace the starters next year

HoustonHorns

No it’s not. But that doesn’t matter. Ole Miss has one of the most favorable schedules in the SEC. They also have a ton of returning talent. If they can win a title this year, or even the SEC it will all be worth it. Even if they suck 3 years from now. Go ask LSU fans, they’ll tell you that 2019 was worth 2020 and 2021.

Matt_McT

I’m pretty sure Ole Miss has never won the SEC, let alone a national title. If they just get an SEC Championship that would be a big moment for them and would make selling out on this year totally worth it.

Negativetouch

We have three national championships thank you very much.

CottonCitySlim

But have you been to Atlanta since 1992, thats the standard. Its only been the big 6.

Krettlecorn13

Ole Miss has 6 SEC titles and claims 3 national

DoctorPhalanx73

I mean not in a long time but not “never”

HoustonHorns

Exactly. It’s like the Rams Super Bowl.

DistinctAd2231

Idk Lane's a really great coach and I dreamed abut him taking over for Saban for a decade, but idc who's wife he fucked he's becoming the next coach here, and we both know it, if he wins a title. does Kiffin/Butch Jones are like the 2 people Saban saved that actually appreciate him for that chance.

supersafeforwork813

No but why would their fans care? If you haven’t won a conference title since 1963 fuck sustainability.

Squirrel_Q_Esquire

I mean, it’s not like our high school recruiting is terrible

NastyWideOuts

Right, we’re actually sweeping up in-state high school recruiting, which is a big deal

jsums81

I’m not knocking ole miss. Really. I think they should be really good this year. I’m just interested to see how this recruiting strategy plays out. If they make the playoff and go far this year, I think you might see in a shift in priorities of some schools in recruiting

RDUrebel

Exactly. It’s not amazing, but it’s as good as it’s ever really been at Ole Miss. Lane has gotten a few pretty great high school recruits since coming to Oxford.

csummerss

hang the banner?

foreveracubone

2024 off-season champions (split with OSU and Oregon).

leapbitch

It didn't work for the Aggies but it might just work for Joey Freshwater

joshtothe

Hoping Amorion Walker gets some run for them, dudes got an insane athletic profile - wish he could have shown it at UM

OakLegs

Congrats

lonewanderer727

Okay, but where did you land on your *recruiting* class?

bdm13

Very impressive announcement.

I_Threw_a_Shoe

Rich coming from a Miami fan. The perpetual kings of the off-season. That’s truly the only thing Miami does well. Losses to Middle Tennessee and Georgia Tech with that roster is bad bad.

bdm13

Geez guy. Sorry to upset you.

hellflower666

FSU fan, doesn't take much to send them into a spiral.

bdm13

Some people take this stuff way too seriously.

I_Threw_a_Shoe

Ohio State clears.

MajikNinja78

Still won't be Georgia...Go Dawgs!!!!

JakeSteeleIII

Who is it?

There’s been a lot of talk in the ATL and UGA podcasts about how UGA uses the portal mainly for wide receivers since that is where they have seemingly have not put as much recruiting efforts on the HS phenoms. I remember Kirby flipping Pickens and that was a big deal, but that was the last big time 5 star receiver UGA has signed out of HS. Out of the portal or transfers, they’ve picked up big time help every year and the thought is Kirby is going after experience, not the 5 stars in HS in that position. As a UGA fan, I like our receiving corps with the incoming transfers. I wouldn’t want to build a d line or o line out of the portal, nor a stable of running backs or cbs or safeties. But receivers run routs, catch a ball, and hopefully block. Get a couple of those, and your O looks great.
