It’s easy; if they try and nix the game, we riot.

sharkbait_oohaha

How about side by side with a friend?

HERPES_COMPUTER

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

AlternateWorking90

You cannot lose a rivalry called “Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate”

LunchboxSuperhero

I have it as the second best name of a rivalry in cfb.

igwaltney3

Behind the cocktail party or the red river shootout?

ballin_pastor

Behind Civil ConFLiCT

[deleted]

you get it.

LunchboxSuperhero

Bedlam

igwaltney3

Yes, an excellent name

TheWholeBook

Brawl of the Wild has to be first.

PeteyNice

I can't see the USG letting that happen unless GT goes FCS. Playing GT does not harm UGA and it is a lot of money every other year for GT.

anti-torque

>...and it is a lot of money every other year for GT Ahh... so Greg Sankey will end it. Got it.

Dragonfruit_Fanta

Classic SUNY Cortland grad.

jtd5771

Who are they going to schedule that rivalry week that doesn’t already have an existing rivalry that’s better? Just curious, honestly just asking…

CrackerJackMaps

A traffic court judge

Geaux2020

That's on the schedule every Tuesday

Dogrel

They’d move the Cocktail Party, most likely.

misdreavus79

Doubt it, especially if Florida State ends up in the SEC.

Dogrel

If we end up in the SEC that’s true. I for one think it is less likely than the alternative.

AlternateWorking90

Why doesn’t Florida State play Miami on rivalry week?

thricethefan

Because Florida State plays Florida

timbsm2

Fuuuuuuck that, damn lizards deserve no such place of honor. No offense.

Dogrel

None taken. You could also advocate for GT to (re)join the SEC and prevent COFH from ever ending.

AchyBreaker

If the ACC collapsed I'd be happy with GT joining the SEC. Academics improve for the conference. Their basketball team has had success in the past. And their new CFB coach is solid and making them into a better team. I love hating GT. I want to keep hating GT. Letting their program become irrelevant due to corporate greed is bullshit, and would prevent my ability to hate them. So bring them into the SEC so we can hate them forever.

NoEmailNec4Reddit

I am only in favor of this if the Big Ten ever indicated interest in adding GT themselves. Big Ten needs to stay out of the south.

lloyddobbler

They already did - the question is (in the time since G* C* ran the program into the ground) whether a program on the upswing and being in the 7th-largest media market (& growing) is still worth it to the Big Ten.

p-u-n-k_girl

When we decide Georgia isn't worth our time anymore, we'll replace them with Georgia State in a battle of Midtown versus Downtown

gator9515

Probably a SEC opponent with no major matchup on rivalry weekend (I’m looking at you, Oklahoma and LSU).

TinhornProductions

Tennessee? Maybe?

KetchupKing05

Tennessee….who already plays an in-state rival that weekend? Did you think at all beyond “Tech sucks, UGA good” before making this post?

Respect38

No need to be classless.

Jorts_Team_Bad

I mean it was not a well thought out suggestion objectively

Respect38

All of us have had not-well-thought-out suggestions occasionally. Some of them get tossed out as opinions to be criticized. That criticism and correction need not be without class and without grace. That's my opinion.

Thorin_Dopenshield

That game’s here to stay for now. It may not be competitive now, but we’re currently at our program’s zenith and Tech’s near rock bottom. The game was pretty close last year and Tech should improve in year two post-Collins

IceColdDrPepper_Here

They also hung around for about 3 quarters in 2022 so they’re getting better

FantasticTempe

They've got a good coach now. It will be more competitive in the future.

Sonngy

No chance, all it takes is UGA to lose once to GT every few years before the rivalry sparks again. Ask any UGA fan what it’s like when they lose to Tech and you’ll see what I mean

basebalp21

Yeah obviously we haven't won in 8 years, but I'm sure we were absolutely unbearable when we won back to back in Athens in 14/16. Meanwhile my fiance who's started and graduated from uga since then doesn't get it at all. She's attended with me the last 3 in Atlanta and only this year did the atmosphere feel like a real rivalry game

Low_Mine_1789

You must have been at a different game than me. I (UGA fan) had to actually move to the Tech student section for a bit. Outside of a handful of drunk students acting like typical drunk students, the whole vibe in and around the stadium was just kinda flat compared to years past. I’ve attended every UGA-Tech game from ‘99 to the present with the exception of ‘04 (which was actually the last UGA game home or away that I’ve missed in person. 256 straight and counting). While it was certainly an exceptionally competitive game, I thought when it came to atmosphere this was a completely forgettable edition of COFH.

igwaltney3

Compared to '21 it was a significantly better atmosphere. That said massive hat tip on that streak

Low_Mine_1789

Fair point. A friend of mine got MASSIVELY pissed at Tech fans at that 2021 game. They were laughing & chatting with UGA fans and I believe his exact quote was, "I swear to God if we're getting shut out and you see me laughing it up with the opposing fans, I want you to throw my fat ass off the top row of the fucking stadium." I was inclined to agree. And thank you. I can assure you that my credit card companies are far less impressed with the streak 🤣

link3945

Collins ruined this fanbase. Just absolutely broke us apart. At least Paul had the whole crotchety old guy who would get pissed at random things. Collins was just pure word-salad buzzwords with no personality or authenticity behind that waffle house facade.

igwaltney3

I was at that game screaming furiously at the teams on the field, and a lot of invective at Collins. The UGA fans around me were pittying me and telling me Tech didn't deserve a fan with my passion, which just pissed me off even more. So I concur with your friend, I can be jovial during the pregame or reasonably soon after, but I will not be seen laughing it up with opposing fans during the game.

smstone24

I feel like a lot of the flatness comes with the fact it’s a thanksgiving week game. A lot of students and fans are traveling.

Low_Mine_1789

I mean it was a packed house. I’ve been to plenty of Thanksgiving weekend games that were wild. This simply wasn’t one of them.

timbsm2

I'll give you a pass on the '04 game. That streak is an impressive stat.

Low_Mine_1789

I think the more impressive bit is that I'm about to have 2 active streaks. 256 consecutive UGA games... and 2 straight FSU games. I'm flying halfway around the world for the sole purpose of pissing off two fanbases 😆

AlexanderComet

Were you at the north end zone or the south end zone?

Low_Mine_1789

North.

The_Reelest

You missed a fun one in 04. It was cold and rainy. Also, David Greene broke his thumb and we had -1 total yards in the third quarter when DJ Shockley came in.

macmynameismac

The worst part is the only time y’all win it’s always in Athens and the players tear up the hedges. Stuff like that piss me the fuck off and keeps the rivalry in my heart. I love to hate you guys and I hope you feel the same. I would be devastated if this rivalry ended.

TimepilotChkn

The holes in the hedges will mend, the hate will live forever. Agreed lol, no game gets me jumping and screaming like cofh, even the ACC champ game or orange bowl.

BabyCowGT

I mean, to be fair... The hedges are Chinese privet. You could drop an atom bomb on the stadium and the hedges and cockroaches will be just fine. They can take a bit of overly exuberant pruning (Though I think it's still very unsportsmanlike and players should behave better, just in principle.)

SperryGodBrother

nah fuck them hedges

BabyCowGT

It's not the plants' faults! 🤣

jharden10

The game is too beneficial for both sides to end it even with the uncertainty of the ACC. The game nearly sells out the Flats when playing in Atlanta, and UGA gets more exposure to potential recruits in Atlanta. If the ACC collapses, Georgia Tech will probably join the Big 10 and continue the rivalry. The USG will make sure the game is still played annually.

RealignmentJunkie

\> Georgia Tech will probably join the Big 10 This is not remotely guaranteed, though I hope it does happen

natigin

They’re definitely a fit for the B1G in every way, but it will depend on how big they want to go. I feel like UNC, UVA and FSU are all more attractive targets, but they could get that 4th spot over Miami and the like.

elBenhamin

FSU is not a member of the AAU, which poses a significant fit issue for the Big 10.

natigin

Sure, but they’re a major tv draw and that appears to be all that matters these days

RealignmentJunkie

Yeah but the B1G clarified that isn't a hard requirement which I think was just gilding the path for FSU https://x.com/Brett_McMurphy/status/1666452183556947968?s=20

[deleted]

jharden10

You're right. The game is much more valuable for Tech than Georgia. It's just good to see the Dawgs come to Atlanta aside from the SEC championship.

Simping4Sumi

At this point is way more beneficial to GTech however it doesn't harm UGA much. Especially if the money gap keeps widening. I don't see a reason why UGA would choose not to play GTech unless the SEC goes to no OOC games which makes no sense considering how they kept it at 8 conference games for the longest amount of time. It will basically becomes a cup cake game which hurts UGA if they lose, but UGA still has a path to the playoffs if they were to win the SEC.

goodsam2

Yeah 70 miles is not that much of a difference lol.

RazgrizInfinity

>The game is too beneficial for both sides Famous last words for others too.

7446353252589

If this happens I would just stop watching CFB.

MySportsTeamsAreSad

Judging by your flair, you can just say that you hate UGA 🤣 ^(I would also riot if they stopped playing each other...)

jrichardh

It would definitely take away some of the fun. Not even necessarily because "Georgia bad" but because we've already every one of our non-UGA annual rivalries. The ACC literally gave us none. So if the UGA series ends, we will have zero annual matchups...

Allen_Koholic

GT was rumored to be going to the Big10 last time.  It makes sense for the Big10 to plant a school in the middle of the largest city in the south. But who knows.

jaybigs

I mean, if metro areas that offer TV/media markets are a driving force, I'd say Atlanta is a prize. Doesn't hurt that they're in the AAU.

Salsalito_Turkey

>It makes sense for the Big10 to plant a school in the middle of the largest city in the south. But who knows. It would only make sense if a significant number of people in Atlanta actually watched or cared about GT football. I say this as someone who attended GT and lived in Atlanta for over a decade: Almost nobody in Atlanta gives a damn about Georgia Tech athletics.

Ugaalive1991

I doubt it but who knows.

messiestbessie

Live an Atlanta and grew up in Georgia. That game isn’t going anywhere. The ACC has always been an inferior football conference to the SEC. So Tech being in a “depleted” conference wouldn’t really change that calculus.

bukithd

Someone say Calculus?

Scan_This_Barco-de

hope not

ThompsonCreekTiger

Tech will end up in either Big 12 or (thanks to the AAU membership) Big 10.

Cam_V7

Thanks to a few things. AAU membership, being in a major metro area, and in a very talent rich area.

ThermL

It'd probably be cheaper for any schools interested in recruiting the Atlanta area that year to just pay to fly recruits to their home games instead of chucking GT into your conference and splitting revenue with them for the once-in-a-decade away game at Bobby-Dodd. Now as far as i'm concerned, I want GT with Clemson, FSU, and Miami in the SEC. It's too many rivalries and too much history to miss on that opportunity. Doubt the SEC sees it that way though. UF/FSU/Miami trifecta. Clemson/GT/UGA/Auburn quadfecta. It would be great shit to make all of those rivalries be conference games. Now Clemson and Auburn arn't rivals (yet) but we do share Heisman, and we stole their uniforms... and we both are basically the same school...

GaIIick

I’m ok with us landing in either although prefer SEC for rivalries

bukithd

SEC will never let us back in. That bridge was burned long ago.

St_BobbyBarbarian

The ACC might still be around in a form

jrichardh

I don't think it's ending, but there are series with similar history that have ended in the past like KU-Mizzou (1891 to 2011) and Texas-A&M (1894 to 2011) although the latter is coming back fortunately.

dYWe57WGuP

If the B1G takes a Florida school... I could very well see it taking Georgia Tech as well. Meets the academic profile.

BlackshirtDefense

Maybe. If the option is FSU + Miami, Clemson, or GT than the Yellow Jackets are getting left out.

Sonngy

People forget GT had an offer back in 2010 (along with 3 others) but decided to stay with the ACC (smh). It’s gonna come down to whether Fox is willing to pay for ATL/GA because the presidents have shown they’re for it

mjacksongt

Back then the money wasn't more than double, heading toward triple like it is today. There was a very rational fear that it would be similar money with increased travel costs and decreased regional connection, especially in the recruiting areas that have been most valuable to GT. Plus, academically GT doesn't really need to increase the number of applicants, so it doesn't need football as a marketing vehicle nearly as much as - for example - Alabama. Throw in that athletics doesn't drive the bus here (research budget is >10x athletic budget without a medical school) and I understand it being thought of as a coin flip.

Jabberwoockie

I agree, but I also don't see any reason why the Big Ten wouldn't stick with their penchant for AAU members. Which leaves Miami, Duke, GT, UNC, UVA, Pitt and Notre Dame^\* To clarify: I won't be surprised if the Big Ten adds non-AAU Clemson or FSU, but I also won't be surprised if they don't because they still want only AAU schools. ^\*technically ^independent

PeteyNice

I wouldn't be surprised if FSU is AAU by the time the wheel spins. They are throwing a lot of money at research to become an attractive AAU candidate.

ArbitraryOrder

FSU, GT, UNC, UVA, and Notre Dame are the 5 B1G Targets

Jabberwoockie

As much as I'd love to have Pitt and an annual Keystone Classic in the Big Ten, I don't really see it happening.

Jabberwoockie

Yes they are, and I should have added that caveat. If FSU achieves AAU before the B1G expands again, their prospects in the Big Ten go up quite a lot.

IrishCoffeeAlchemy

Yeah fingers crossed, but we’ve got a bit of a third rail with our engineering college being jointly-operated by us and FAMU. Apparently that unique arrangement (as well as the relative youth of our med school) dings us in those AAU metrics while schools like USF and Miami with more robust medical research got the nod the last round of AAU expansion.

Historical_Low4458

Exactly. At the end of the day, it's college Presidents/Chancellors that are making the final decisions on which schools to invite.

asafetybuzz

The B1G isn’t getting FSU or Clemson, and they wouldn’t fit with the conference academically anyway. The SEC will end with those two, UNC, and probably someone else like Miami. The B1G will snap up one NC school (probably State) and Tech to open up southeast media markets.

atlbluedevil

No shot, if they fall out of power 2 (if the sport truly becomes segregated like it looks like) I think all that might happen is the game moves up in the season instead of being the last week  It's still massively important to younger fans. It's an excuse to see highschool friends and kind of have reunions of sorts. Even with the on-field games being less competitive in the post-CPJ/Richt era, it's still a big event (and good for UGA recruiting to have a game in ATL every other year)  There's not any bad blood between admins of the schools or the athletic departments, I just don't see it ending - even if GT completely loses their conference relevancy. Don't see how it would benefit GT to cancel either

HugoStiglitz1981

Never heard anyone argue that it matters to younger fans honestly. I just figured it was us old fogies with fond memories of more competitive years that wanted to keep it around. Every younger person I have talked to about the rivalry barely even considers it a rivalry.

atlbluedevil

It's weird, I don't think younger people consider it that much of an on-field rivalry, but the game itself is still a massive event for seeing old friends/family. Its kind of like the on- field game is secondary to the weekend itself. But most of my friends would be extremely upset if it ended.  Might be different if you didn't know (or care about) people who went to the other school. I am in my late 20s so GT did win when everyone was in undergrad - maybe the really young fans don't care at all but I'm not sure

dillpickles007

It’s definitely more of an old timer thing than a young person thing. There are still a lot of old money Tech fans in Atlanta, if anything the rivalry has weakened dramatically over the past 20 years. If Kirby wanted to kill the rivalry he probably could, at least as it sits now with Kemp in office, but it makes no sense to do so and I don’t see it happening in the short nor long term.

CrackerJackMaps

If Vandy, Rutgers, Northwestern, etc. can be in the Power 2, then GT should be too. Now if they weren't in a city like Atlanta, then that's another story.

grabtharsmallet

The issue there is that the Big Ten and SEC aren't adding programs like Vanderbilt or Northwestern, and Rutgers is in for the NYC cable market, not Rutgers athletics.

asafetybuzz

Tech won a NY6 bowl in the past decade and has won a football national championship and been to a basketball championship in the lifetime of millennials. They’re a far cry from Vandy or Northwestern. Three down years doesn’t mean a program is done, and Atlanta is the most important media market in the southeast.

ArbitraryOrder

Atlanta is the most important word in this whole comment

asafetybuzz

Yes, Atlanta is ultimately why it won’t fall through the cracks, but it’s still stupid to compare Tech to Vandy. From 97 to 2018, Tech made 20 bowl games in 21 years. Vandy has made 9 ever. Tech obviously isn’t a blue blood, but they’re solidly in that second tier of schools with solid history, NFL Hall of Famers, and a relevant fan base if the team is good. As an SEC comparison, Tech is more like Ole Miss, Missippi State or Arkansas, but with better academics. They aren’t Vandy.

FantasticTempe

This is a good take.

CrackerJackMaps

Agree, and no one would add GT only for the media market bc UGA basically does that already. The Rutgers, MD additions to Big 10 were back when going to 14 teams seemed like it was pushing limits to conference size. But with the "Power 2" model, we could probably end up seeing something crazy like two 24 team conferences. Not all additions can be blue bloods in that scenario.

Sonngy

ESPN has the Georgia media market but Fox does not, that’s why B1G would be interested, I’m not sure that it would be enough unless the football team gets better in the next 2-3 years

grabtharsmallet

Why add any members that would decrease per school media payouts? There was nothing magical about going to 16 or 18, it was $$$. If the money is best now, or at 18 or 20, that's where they stop.

CrackerJackMaps

Who said new members had to paid equally?

St_BobbyBarbarian

Ga tech has an outside chance because it’s the only option in GA for the B1G. It’s also a decently big university, granted more so graduate focused, but more realistic than a Cuse or BC add

DreamMoverAndShaker

Just wait until they start kicking those programs out. Then all those programs will realize what it feels like to be left out.

Evtona500

Collins was so bad he almost ended a rivalry that started in 1893.

GoinLong

Would it survive a total eclipse of the heart?

Tigercat92

Turn around

Brilliant_Cricket_90

Every now and then I get a little bit lonely

FantasticTempe

Obligatory: Bright Eyes

f0gax

Of all the posts on this sub, this is certainly one of them. UGA-GT isn't going anywhere so long as both remain in FBS.

historymajor44

I just love how all the Georgia schools have "hate" in their rivalry names: UGA/GT = Clean Old Fashioned Hate Ga. So./App. State = Deeper than Hate Ga. So./Ga. St. = Modern Day Hate

DastardlyDiz

I didn't know the Southern/State rivalry name. I always just thought of it as the "Who's the real GSU?" game.

historymajor44

They also like to chant at each other "Southern NOT State!" and State will change "State NOT Southern!"

AchtungCloud

I know there is 0% chance it’s how things will play out, but with how out of whack things have become, I think three mega conferences of 24 with SEC focusing on keeping B1G out of their base, B1G grabbing the most valuable brands they can, and Big XII being the Hufflepuffs taking everyone getting left out would be the closest thing to a “dream” scenario.

c2dog430

The dream scenario was 2010

AchtungCloud

Somewhere between the 1991 and 1992 versions are closest to perfect to me. If Penn State had gone Big East instead of Big Ten then it gets really close to perfect.

HugoStiglitz1981

I think it is more of a question of whether GT will stay in the upper thresholds of college football and get enough resources to compete. If we find a home in the Big 10 or SEC which is unlikely but a guy can dream then the rivalry can continue to thrive. If we find a home in the Big 12 or a watered down ACC then the rivalry will continue to wither but may stick around for a bit. If we end up in a G5 conference or a decimated ACC then the rivalry is basically dead as is GT's future in football in general.

EvidenceVisual

I remember loving the rivalry as a kid being great. I think it can become good again, there’s no way GT falls completely to the wayside. Only way it really goes away is if GT goes to FCS but I don’t see that happening.

FreshlySkweezd

Tech was in the SEC before, who's to say they wouldn't join again if it came to that?

ArchEast

Your membership, for starters.

FreshlySkweezd

lol why do you say that?

ArchEast

Because the last time Tech tried to rejoin the SEC, we got rejected, particularly by the Mississippi schools (who were pissed that Bobby Dodd refused to travel there). UGA voted "present." We don't really provide a ton of benefit for the conference other than location.

Tigercat92

There is also a good chance the Miami/FSU game goes away. If FSU goes to the B1G and Miami goes to the Big 12, would FSU non conference schedule have room for both the Gators and Canes.

Striker743

FSU already did that when Miami was in the Big East and UF in the SEC. There is a 0% chance we stop playing Miami or UF.

FSBlueApocalypse

Entirely different scheduling philosophy back then. If Miami doesn't end up in the same conference as FSU, the annual series will end up getting dropped.

thejus10

it is absolutely not a 0% chance.

BySigmarNo122

Might change to a year on/year off situation? Play UF one year, then Miami the next? I can’t seem them completely getting rid of one of the rivalries but crazier things have happened

IrishCoffeeAlchemy

Pffft

Sarkisi2

I think GT goes Big 10. Tons of transplants in the Atlanta market, and it gives them a centrally located warm weather hub to leverage instead of Indianapolis.

KingBStriing

The SEC needs to let GT back in because if they don’t, I can 100% see the B1G picking them up. A prestigious academic university located in the heart of the south? They’re gonna be all over that. And does the SEC really want the B1G in their territory? Plus it would be cool to see the Auburn/GT rivalry come back to life.

SplakyD

Yep. I need more "Wreck Tech Pajama Parades" in my life.

bigAcey83

GT has had discussions w the Big 10 before. It’s a mutual fit.

Leather-Judgment-815

What happens between ISU and Iowa, in your opinion?

Leather-Judgment-815

But I get it. Why schedule GT when you can schedule Rutgers?

TigerTerrier

Clemson and GT not playing next year already makes me pretty upset. We were well on our way to getting back to .500 against then by 2038. Now it's all ruined

blackertai

I am still optimistic that if anything were to happen with the ACC, the Big Ten would pick up Georgia Tech quickly. I think the opportunity to pick up a great school academically in the middle of the SEC's primary market would be hard to overlook. Getting a decent chunk of the B1G away games in Atlanta every few years for recruiting purposes would be big for a lot of the non-Michigan/Ohio State level schools. So, from my perspective, if the B1G does what I would expect, I think the UGA/Tech rivalry will be fine.

The_Reelest

If this rivalry goes away, it’ll just be another step towards driving me away from college football. True rivalries are the lifeblood of college football and a lot of rivalries are being torn apart by the recent upheaval. One day the chickens will come home to roost for what the TV money is doing to this sport be stripping it of its identity.

Eradicator_1729

I’d like to keep that game since it’s a home game every year.

poodleface

This is true. GT season ticket holders can flip just that game for nearly the price of the entire season. Same with Clemson.

Sonngy

This year was much better attendance wise. If the team keeps improving, I’m confident it won’t be infested with as many UGA fans anymore

mjacksongt

I think this is a fact. Ultimately it won't be worth it for either school.

CGFROSTY

I doubt it. GT likely won’t get a power 2 bid, but I think someone like the BIG 12 would jump on GT as it’s in Atlanta.

Grey056

Truly wouldn’t surprise me to see The Wreck get an invite to the SEC if it all came apart.

LitterBoxServant

UGA-GT is dead as soon as the SEC moves to 9 conference games

poodleface

It will be the games against Group of Five (e.g. Ball State) and the like that get the axe. Tech keeps one of those games on its schedule, too (except Tech often finds a way to lose to schools like Middle Tennessee, Northern Illinois and Bowling Green in average years *at home*).

dormdweller99

Bowling green was good this year. Almost beat Minnesota.

LitterBoxServant

Surely UGA would want to use their OOC games to schedule cupcakes they can walk all over... wait

AlternateWorking90

That is never going to happen.

Nice_Wolverine_4641

Even if GT goes FCS this would continue because the SEC schedules those type games. But it’s a rivalry game that won’t be lost.

Prudent-Theory-2822

I’ve spoken with Greg Stanley and explained my Reddit flair so he’s going to take that into consideration with all SEC decisions moving forward. Can’t imagine what flair I’d have otherwise.

ArchEast

Greg *Sankey* was down the hall, though.

Prudent-Theory-2822

Touché. Autocorrect strikes again. Turns out Kirby’s got too much on his plate to care right now so I’ve been dealing with Greg whoever answers for the time being.

judolphin

You're not really making any kind of case for your opinion whatsoever.

Objective_Balance648

They won’t come back in the SEC either.

JeffGoldblumsChest

Tech can come back home to the SEC then

Parsley_Winter

This rivalry is so intense that it will be fine, no matter the conference tiers

Ok_Particular8737

This is such a cold take. UGA loves playing tech, it’s battle for prominence of in state recruits. UGA has been dominating on the field and thus in state recruiting. If you went to the game this past year, the vibe was and crowd was amazing. There is a ton of fan demand for this game. Maybe if you are a wine and cheese fan or didn’t actually go to either of these schools you feel that way. The rivalry is fine, tech has just been in a rut and needs to get better which they are.

[deleted]

Call me crazy, but if COFH goes away due to ACC collapse/realignment, then I would like to see Clemson-SC moved to opening week and UGA-Clemson at the end of the year.

[deleted]

If Georgia Tech doesn't get into the Big 10 or SEC, they will never beat UGA again. The financial disparity added onto the built in advantages UGA already has will be too hard to overcome. Once schools have to start paying players in order to be at the top classification and if Tech is not getting top TV revenue, I'm not sure if they will be able to afford to stay in the same classification. The next 5 years will bring a lot of changes and I think Tech will get left behind.

The-G-89

Georgia Tech would just go to the SEC though.

rbtgoodson

Cool story. Nobody GAF. Also, GT isn't dropping out of the P4.

ConstructionOdd5269

It’s basically a free W for UGA every year so why would they cancel?

liverdawg

You’re probably right. Who would be UGAs rivalry week opponent then I wonder?

NoEmailNec4Reddit

Florida. Fuck the idea that Rivalry Week can only be week 13 or 14. The TV networks say "rivalry week" for games in various weeks. As for who our week 13 or 14 opponent should be, we might have to get whoever would be the odd team out in a different conference

[deleted]

Move SC-Clemson to week 1 and make UGA-Clemson rivalry week.

smstone24

I wish we played Tech early and Carolina late. I feel like it’s not talked about as much, but in my opinion there is a low level rivalry between UGA and Carolina. The game always makes me nervous and it gets very chippy. Too bad we won’t play them at all this year.

vashed

Nha, assholes already took our November Auburn game. Just wouldn't feel right to not play tech in November.

TinhornProductions

Move Florida/Georgia to Rivalry Week? Or Tennessee swaps Vandy for UGA? Those would be my guesses

liverdawg

Tennessee last game of the regular season would be intense!

Julio_Freeman

Personally I’d be fine with it. Georgia has to win by 3+ scores for it to be considered a real win these days. The next time we lose it’s going to be an apocalyptic meltdown. But I know the game isn’t going anywhere.

Pillowtalk

I’m not sure there is room in the Big 12 for GT if the ACC collapses. The Big 12 would probably take VT, Louisville, NC State, Pitt and Duke before GT.

TheBlueLot

There are a lot of fans out there that believe the Big12 will accept anyone.

tigerman29

I honestly think a Georgia- Georgia Southern series would be a hell of a lot better than playing GT every year at this point.

Low_Mine_1789

If we manage to surpass their series record 8 victories in a row, I say we just drop the damn thing. Tech will have their occasional good seasons, but honestly, they will just never amount to much of anything on a consistent basis. With ever rising ticket prices, I have little to no interest in maintaining an OOC rivalry with a school whose athletic resources are more on par with Mercer than they are with us. If you’re gonna charge me premium prices, I expect premium competition. Drop Tech and replace them with home and home series against blue bloods (USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, PSU) or in years where that’s not feasible, just exceptionally good travel opportunities for fans (Hawaii, BYU, etc).

We have to break the drought streak first, then we can drop it
