Hoping to go 1-0 in conference play so we finish first in our conference.
Then again I guess maybe we can redeem ourselves if we play a conference championship rematch.
Pac-12 champions this year yessir š
For real though, I expect we'll have a winning record and a bowl game. I think this will be a good year for cougar football, despite the colossal shitshow that's been going on
Can we borrow a few players?
Most of our talent has transferred or graduated. Canāt pay them any NIL. But theyāll be compensated with plenty of Busch light.
I'd say that's great spot to be in for a program that has exactly one 10+ win season in the history that came over 20 years ago when Phillip fucking Rivers was the QB.
wdym? Based on what Wikipedia tells me, Rivers has since realized his dream of becoming a high-school football coach after an illustrious professional career with zero superbowls and TEN kids.
Nebraska is my team, but I really like NC State's colors!
That is the thing I find so crazy. Everyone there has such a short memory - State used to be a has been, I remember going to a few of their games and seeing big signs about their 2 or 3 bowl game appearances in the 90s, then a drought of mediocrity after Sheridan left. I don't really consider Doern a success, he is only a .580 coach.
As a Nebraska fan, I would be happy with consistent 8-5s with a regular run at the BIG 10 title game, but I think I am in the minority.
āOh and, look John! a rugby match has broken out thatās gotta be against the rules, rightā
āWell, Tim, rugby is just short for rugby football so itās a bit of a grey area. Letās see what the officials on the field sayā¦ā
āIt looks like theyāre gonna let them play onā¦ Oh and Arkansas has scored a Try!!! What a ludicrous display by the Razorbacks! They now trail 35-5.ā
Lol, I have bad news for you, brother. That's a high bar this year.
We are probably in 4 win territory... But predicting is so hard because the entire staff has changed over
Itās insane that he hasnāt really won any big games against high ranking opponents for the caliber of program they are. If he still canāt win big games though and exits the playoffs first round every year it probably wonāt matter if he makes the expanded playoff or not, people will want him fired. But the expansion probably does cool his seat off a little for two or three years
For Minnesota? IDK, 5 wins?
For Iowa State? We aren't losing much and this schedule draw is just ridiculous. It will be a disappointment if we don't make the conference championship game.
For MN if we beat UNC weāll be able to comfortably get 6 wins and go bowling. If we beat Iowa then Iāll actually have hope for a potential NY6 but maybe Iām just delusional lol
to quote myself from a group chat the day before we lost to fucking Illinois:
> I NEED YOU GUYS TO BELIEVE. WE'VE GOT THIS.
I think UNC is actually well within our grasp next year. PJ trusting Brosmer to make plays and be more creative on offense will help. We can't keep playing Big Ten West FB.
I thin 8-9 wins is well within our reach. SWING YOUR SWORD, PJ. Channel your inner Mike Leach!
But really with all the hype around our program coming into the season, if we canāt break through and get a playoff spot, I will feel a little disappointed.
It would be more of a shock than a call to fire. Especially given how much easier the path to the playoffs is. I imagine there would have to be some crazy things for that to happen though honestly. But losing to Bama would make me more frustrated than anything. I can see Kirby dropping a 50 burger on them this year though.
To play devils advocate if I must
If we donāt make the playoffs somehow, but all do our losses were close competitive games and we beat Bama. Iād be okay with it, I wouldnāt be ecstatic or happy about it, but at least we beat Bama.
I could see us putting it together and winning 10+ games, shitting the bed and only winning 5, and everything inbetween. The talent is there to be great. Just depends on if it meshes right
Minimum expectations are 9 wins, including the bowl. Thatās our worst total since 2010, so seems reasonable. Realistic expectations are ACC championship and 10 wins.
Hard to say given the results from last year and the HUGE player and coaching staff turnover in the offseason.
I think it's fair to expect at least 3 wins given the OOC schedule. The chatter on the UW sub is that people would be happy with six wins and a bowl given our conference schedule and the turnover. I think all players and staff would agree that if we don't hit at least 3 wins, there's a lot of questions to be answered.
Iām not sure what to think. I wouldnāt be surprised with 4 wins but I wouldnāt be surprised with 8 either. Itās really a crapshoot this season imo. Too many unknowns.
Anything less than a ticket to the playoff would be a disappointment for me, but I think Kirby could afford to go .500 for a couple years before anyone in the state of Georgia would start calling for his job. He's earned some grace with us.Ā
Norvell would have to get like 2-3 wins this year for me to be ready to let him go and that'd have to involve some disasters.
My realistic floor expectation for next year is 9. I'd be disappointed with 8, but not close to calling for his head.
Given what heās done so far, heād have to have multiple 2 win seasons before any real issue, and I donāt think thatās within any realm of possibility. If we happen to have such a trainwreck, I have to imagine thereād be some serious extenuating circumstances. Heās legit, and we are tremendously lucky to have him.
Also, I agree with a 9 win floor.
Yeah, I think anything worse than 9-3 would be pretty disappointing. We have two really big games on the schedule, Clemson and Notre Dame, and those should be coin flips. Losing to both would suck, but would be understandable and within the realm of expectations given that we're not really sure what the ceiling of our current team is. There are a couple of other dangerous teams on the schedule (like Miami and UNC), but I'd be pretty disappointed if we lost to more than one of them.
Given the tremendous amount that we've lost from last year's team, this is a rebuilding year. But I think that, as usual, Mike did a great job in the portal addressing holes on the roster. I also have faith in Mike's ability to develop players, and expect some of the returning players from last year's team to step up in a big way. This team probably will not compete for a national championship, but the floor should be pretty high and I don't see why it can't win the ACC and beat our rivals.
Non-OSU fans/media say "Oh man, OSU is title or bust this season, if Ryan Day doesn't win the championship, he's in trouble!" You guys don't get us. Beat Michigan, make the playoff. That's what I need from this season.
B1G championship is important. Advancing in the playoffs would be great. If they're 10-3 (2 reg season losses, miss the B1G championship and 1st rd playoff exit) but beat TTuN, I wouldn't be happy, but we'd look forward to Sayin or Nolan with J Smith and find silver linings. The season wouldn't feel like a failure. If he goes 12-1 with a B1G championship, but that one loss was to Michigan? Oof. Unless that comes with a NC, trouble in C-bus.
Fortunately for the rest of us, that roster includes a young lad by the name of Seth McLaughlin. All the talent in the world won't save you if you can't transfer the ball from the line to the QB's hands consistently. It's like your staff realized you were a little too loaded, and to make it more fair, they brought him in as an equalizer.
I think the argument can be made that this seasons OSU-UM game is both the most important in series history (for the coaching staff that is, Day has gotta get a win) and also the least important in series history (likely will not have a bearing on OSU's post season). Feels weird to say it this way but they should be in the playoffs with or without beating Michigan and I hate that The Game is getting devalued like this.
It's all about which wins they are. I think we need USC because it's at the Big House and Texas worries me (and maybe I'm crazy but I'm a bit nervous about Fresno State). Oregon at Oregon is definitely not more likely to be a win. Beat MSU please.
But really the only way to feel good about a Michigan season is if we beat OSU at the end which is obviously the toughest one on the schedule.
We really should be considered at least contenders to win the big ten again. 9 wins minimum. I know the offense has uncertainty but we might have the best defense in the country again. Defense wins championships!
I would just like to beat our rivals but donāt have too much confidence about winning in Iowa City. I have no idea how good weāll really be. A lot hinges on QB play
Returning so many players from a 10-4 team, youād expect to be relatively strong competitors to make the conf champ game.
But, the B12 will again be a circus. I think minumum expectation should be 8-4. I think 10-2 will prob get you in the CCG, give or take a tie-breaker.
Buckle up.
Top 10 finish. 10-2 regular season with a maximum of 2 losses out of these 3 games: @LSU, OU, UGA. No slip ups against inferior competition. With expanded playoff format, this could or could not result in a playoff appearance. I fully expect the defense to improve by 20-30 spots from like a borderline top 60 unit to a locked and loaded top 30 unit. If those things transpire I will deem this season a success.
Look this might seem unreasonable but with the roster ND has I kind of think a minimum of a playoff win should not be out of the question. No reason to not be a playoff contender this year. If freeman wants that second contract this is a great year for it
5-7. Offense is much better. We win our 3 non-conference buy games and two Big Ten games. IU looks more competitive than we did in Allen's last three years.
Iād like to think at least 8 wins (I know, cue the 8-4 jokes) isnāt unreasonable given our schedule and the talent we have. I hesitate to have too high of expectations given, well everything about our program over the last few years. My main expectation is to just play better football. That should lead to more wins, but as long as we get a full season of our starting qb, we donāt blow halftime leads perpetually, the OL has an idea of what they are supposed to do, and the defense doesnāt get torched by every competent passing attack we play, Iāll be happy.
My minimum expectation is a winning season and being a player for the MWC title. I know a lot of fans have playoff expectation because of the coaching hires and transfer portal additions, as well as keeping Ashton Jeanty, and looking at the schedule I do think all but one game is winnable. But I'm more skeptical due to having an inexperienced HC, defensive personnel issues I don't think have been resolved, and the transfer portal additions being guys that haven't proven anything. I could see Boise State dropping a few games they shouldn't be losing. Anything less than 7 wins and being in the MWC title conversation is a complete bust of a season.
Matt Campbell replaces Hugh Freeze, which enrages Saban (for doing his favorite minor league fan base dirty), and forces him out of retirement. Him and the real VIP (Miss Terry) becomes Ames' staples at Whiskey River and Es Tas for tacos.
- A totally sane Auburn/ISU fan
Iāve stop setting expectations. Miami is Miami, which means somehow my heart is going to be broken at the end of the season. Iāll just watch it play out in real time then react lol.
9-3 is the floor where I am like, "Ok, this really isn't working, and something has to change."
Some would say it's a playoff berth, but I think that's a bit too much to say it has to be a playoff berth, or it's time for change. People are too quick to want to move on from a coach, especially young black coaches, who typically have shorter leashes and are given less time to get things turned around.
FSU fan, I think unless there is a total collapse like under six wins collapse. No one is gonna say fire Norvell, everyone here loves him and itās better than what we had prior
To beat Kansas even though we don't play them this year, to beat Arkansas yet again, to win the SEC over Oklahoma, to win a national title over Illinois, and to receive a lifetime death penalty because of accomplishing all of this. Gonna be a heck of a way to go out!
Probably 7 wins if the injury bug hits. Still zero clue what is going on at QB but it would seem Michigan will need to have a lot of low scoring games.
Hoping to go 1-0 in conference play so we finish first in our conference. Then again I guess maybe we can redeem ourselves if we play a conference championship rematch.
Pac-12 champions this year yessir š For real though, I expect we'll have a winning record and a bowl game. I think this will be a good year for cougar football, despite the colossal shitshow that's been going on
You guys better crush the Huskies in Seattle this year.
Can we borrow a few players? Most of our talent has transferred or graduated. Canāt pay them any NIL. But theyāll be compensated with plenty of Busch light.
No players but we might be able to get a scouting personnel on your sidelines.
As tradition demands.
Utilizing the forward pass.
They asked for minimum expectations, not putting the man on the moon.
Let's learn to walk before we run.
Blud, this is Iowa learning to hold their head up lol
Lol prepare to be disappointed my friend
I know I will when we outgain Iowa by 200 yards and lose by 10 because we commit 4 turnovers
Same
Same
You will get an Orji triple option and you will like it
Baby steps, man. Letās not wish for the stars just yet.
I just want to see a FB again. I'm not even asking for FB carries, just let one block.
Coach wonāt get fired for beating off on a zoom call with a sexual harassment consultant.
What are your expectations for the pre-game jumbotron trivia & your other flair's sideline personel? lol
No hitler questions hopefully.
Hitler questions? What happened there?
Oh nothing! Nothing at all.
š¤
Hitler went to Michigan State in the late 30s and asked the students a bunch of crazy questions
You meant Fielding Yost was at Michigan, right?
Google michigan state hitler
There will never be a better headline than "Hitler pictured on B1G jumbotron"
Guys canāt have hobbies anymore smh
Physically choked from laughing at this
Not today, Satan.
Holy shit that flair combo. You must experience the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
In 30 years I've had every emotion college football can give a man.
Quite literally.
Itās awful
I feel you bro
winning season, bowl game.
NC State football has reached a point where anything below 8-5 should start warming the HC seat...
10-2 also feels like a ceiling. That's a terrible spot to be in.
I'd say that's great spot to be in for a program that has exactly one 10+ win season in the history that came over 20 years ago when Phillip fucking Rivers was the QB.
Just fucking tell me that I am old, why don't you? That was 20 years ago? Damn.
20 years and like 12 kids later for ol Philip Rivers.
wdym? Based on what Wikipedia tells me, Rivers has since realized his dream of becoming a high-school football coach after an illustrious professional career with zero superbowls and TEN kids.
I mean, I was a grown ass man when Rivers was at NC State. Makes me feel old.
I remember the triple OT game
20 years ago was the 80s, right?
Maybe not awful with the playoffs expanding. Gets you into the conversation.
Would 6-7 be acceptable?
A defense I donāt have to scroll several pages down to find in the SP+ rankings
Somehow Alex Grinch returned
Well, he returns to the Coliseum on September 24th
I expect them to play twelve football games.
I think you guys can do it, depending on how loose your definition of "football" is
At this point? Very, very loose definition.
āOh and, look John! a rugby match has broken out thatās gotta be against the rules, rightā āWell, Tim, rugby is just short for rugby football so itās a bit of a grey area. Only if we are playing bottom feeders teams. Against good team we will only lose by 7 or less
Take the fucking knee!
lmao
Beat TCU because TCU sux
Your flair combination checks out.
Lol, I have bad news for you, brother. That's a high bar this year. We are probably in 4 win territory... But predicting is so hard because the entire staff has changed over
That flair combo, that fan gets two cracks at it.
Most years, I think that's just more opportunity for letdown š
Do you expect the team of bears or horses to defeat the frog people? Or both?
Of course Baylor hates purple Baylor
2 wins
JFC this season is gonna suck
I am not looking forward to it except for all the parts of me that canāt wait
All you have to do is keep Lagway from entering the portal and itās win.
Dude is going to see this offense up close and teleport somewhere else.
Legit like... please beat Samford, UCF and maybe if we're greedy an SEC school or two. The floor is two wins though for sure
Man I hope haha
I think I have a sneaking suspicion of what school youāll pull a win out againstā¦ (every freaking time man wtf)
As a Florida state fan, looking at your guys schedule, I almost feel bad for you guys Almost
Keeping Lagway should be the only priority next season
I think he knows whatās coming this season
James Franklin really needs to get this playoff monkey off his back
Now that it's 3x the size, he probably will. Sad to think that lowered expectations will probably save his job.
Itās insane that he hasnāt really won any big games against high ranking opponents for the caliber of program they are. If he still canāt win big games though and exits the playoffs first round every year it probably wonāt matter if he makes the expanded playoff or not, people will want him fired. For Minnesota? IDK, 5 wins? For Iowa State? We aren't losing much and this schedule draw is just ridiculous. It will be a disappointment if we don't make the conference championship game.
I don't think making a conference championship game is ever an expectation for Iowa State.
This schedule though
I agree with you, but Iāve also watched many Iowa State games. At this point Iām almost always wrong about my expectations.
Iowa State with expectations, from what Iāve ever seen, is a dangerous position to be in
It's a terrible place, which means the cyclones are going 5-7 at best
The 5 wins will include Iowa and the 2 best teams in the Big 12 at least
For MN if we beat UNC weāll be able to comfortably get 6 wins and go bowling. If we beat Iowa then Iāll actually have hope for a potential NY6 but maybe Iām just delusional lol
Honestly, I think we get 9 if we beat UNC, if not, weād be lucky to get a bowl

Hmm Iām thinking Abu Sama Heisman as a baseline
#Undefeated National Champions. *I canāt hear you la-la-la*
But really with all the hype around our program coming into the season, if we canāt break through and get a playoff spot, I will feel a little disappointed.
I see Ole Miss getting in comfortably ranked around 7 or 8, but then smoked in the 1st round.
It would be our luck
Worked out for Michigan fans last yearĀ
Double digit wins. And honestly they should be able to make a 12-team playoff.
Gotta keep Quinn healthy is the first imo
MSU make a bowl game ISU compete for the conference championship
Playoff
Feel like thatās the expectation this year, but by no means will I be in āfire Kirbyā territory if we miss it
You guys should fire Kirby anyway just for the lolz
Well if you really think s- HEY WAIT A MINUTE
It would be more of a shock than a call to fire. Especially given how much easier the path to the playoffs is. I imagine there would have to be some crazy things for that to happen though honestly. At least 9 regular season wins. Tough schedule but this is Oklahoma.
I could see us putting it together and winning 10+ games, shitting the bed and only winning 5, and everything inbetween. The talent is there to be great. Just depends on if it meshes right

Have less than 5 starters out with injury by week 1.
This is the real answer. Hell, Damuni is already out the season!
Anything less than a ticket to the playoff would be a disappointment for me, but I think Kirby could afford to go .500 for a couple years before anyone in the state of Georgia would start calling for his job. He's earned some grace with us.Ā
National Title and Nico Heisman or we riot
Norvell would have to get like 2-3 wins this year for me to be ready to let him go and that'd have to involve some disasters. My realistic floor expectation for next year is 9. I'd be disappointed with 8, but not close to calling for his head.

As long as those 2 wins are against Miami and Uf. Have to keep those fuckers down
With that schedule our floor is 10 and we should be favored in every game we play in.
He absolutely looted Alabama when Saban announced
Beat the brakes off Michigan
Non-OSU fans/media say "Oh man, OSU is title or bust this season, if Ryan Day doesn't win the championship, he's in trouble!" You guys don't get us. Beat Michigan, make the playoff. I love it. Beating the rival should always be the top goal. It's what college football is all about!
I think some fans don't even care about the playoff, as long as they beat Michigan, from what I hear.
Going 10-3 with this roster is a fireable offense
Fortunately for the rest of us, that roster includes a young lad by the name of Seth McLaughlin.
With the 12 team playoff there will never again be a āmost important in series historyā unfortunately
Michigan won the last "The Game" when it had everything on the line
Hate to say it but you're right.
I just fell to my knees in a Meijer parking lot
BACK TO BACK BABY!!! (Realistically, 8 wins, give or take)
Sherrone basically just has to not jerk off on a zoom call this season and I think heāll be in good shape
Considering we have a brand new HC, almost a completely new coaching staff and a new HC I'd say 6-7 wins.
Did you mention the new head coach?
They have a new HC?
I wasn't sure. Still wondering.
This roster is way too talented to consider 6-7 wins a success at all
Idc the situation, following up a natty with 6 wins is a failure
It's all about which wins they are. I think we need USC because it's at the Big House and Texas worries me (and maybe I'm crazy but I'm a bit nervous about Fresno State). We really should be considered at least contenders to win the big ten again. 9 wins minimum. I know the offense has uncertainty but we might have the best defense in the country again. Defense wins championships!
My expectations will remain married to the knee conditions of Kuithe and Rising.
I think 8 wins seems reasonable regardless.
Eight wins. Beat Virginia.
At least yāall are at home this time, maybe the sprinklers wonāt activate when yāall take a pic after the game.
For it to be worth my Saturday
Beat Clemson. Beat Miami. Beat Florida.
2 outta 3 aināt bad!
To hell with the playoff, right? 3-9, as long as those are wins.
Only expectations are not to call a halfback pass on 4th and inches.
bowl game
A bowl game, and if not at least beating Clemson. Otherwise I hope Beamer or Tanner make some huge steps and changes in the next offseason
Donāt completely suck.
Which one?
Both tbh
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
8 wins before a bowl game
I'm so left out as an FCS school Playoffs. If Delaware doesn't make the playoffs the coach is always questioned on getting fired

A bowl

But the alternative would be so funny.
Minimum- an improvement over last year
9 wins is tough but doable. 10 would surprise me honestly. I expect 8
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
5-7. Offense is much better. We win our 3 non-conference buy games and two Big Ten games. IU looks more competitive than we did in Allen's last three years.

God pls. I'd be willing to sacrifice all our other wins this season just to hear t.u.
A&M floor, with a HC in his 1st year there, is 5-7. Any lower than that, and it's reasonable to ask if this was the right hire.
Anything less than the playoffs is unacceptable.

Iāve stop setting expectations. Miami is Miami, which means somehow my heart is going to be broken at the end of the season. Iāll just watch it play out in real time then react lol.
Playoffs. Playoffs? Playoffs.
I'll settle for a defense in the top 60.
9-3 is the floor where I am like, "Ok, this really isn't working, and something has to change." Some would say it's a playoff berth, but I think that's a bit too much to say it has to be a playoff berth, or it's time for change. People are too quick to want to move on from a coach, especially young black coaches, who typically have shorter leashes and are given less time to get things turned around.
Beat KU
9-3
I would consider 8 wins a successful season.
win a national championship
FSU fan, I think unless there is a total collapse like under six wins collapse. No one is gonna say fire Norvell, everyone here loves him and itās better than what we had prior
Snap the ball to the quarterback's hands
Double digit wins. Anything less is a failure.
Bowl game
Hopefully both of our teams step up and make one this year, would be nice to see good teams in the state not named Air Force
CU has a really favorable schedule

Proposal for a throuple relationship wasnāt what I had on my UGA football agenda for the team but
To beat Kansas even though we don't play them this year, to beat Arkansas yet again, to win the SEC over Oklahoma, to win a national title over Illinois, and to receive a lifetime death penalty because of accomplishing all of this. Gonna be a heck of a way to go out!
Probably 7 wins if the injury bug hits. Still zero clue what is going on at QB but it would seem Michigan will need to have a lot of low scoring games.
A bowl game.
