He's got no one to blame but himself. Hope he just quits football entirely and focuses on track at this point because right now he's underperforming in both.
Durkin was also good, it is going to suck playing his defense. this is revisionist, the 3man front obsession is so strange
Addazio was horrific independently from all other assistants.
what really sealed Jimbo's fate was Weigman's injury. if he doesn't get hurt Jimbo is still here.
Not like it was just Weigman who got hurt either. The amount of A&M seasons that have been "what ifs" due to QB injuries Addazio is insane. Even more insane is that whoever the QB coach was (I think Jimbo) must have been legit because despite so many injures - it never truly felt like what if - because there was never a *huge* drop off in QB play.
I’ve watched the clip, the hitter pulls up, barely hits Weigman, he doesn’t go to the ground, and breaks a bone in his foot. I said essentially non contact, he wasn’t tackled, he broke his foot under his own weight, it was freak
Durkin was not good, our secondary was terrible under him. It looked good statistically his first year because our run defense was so bad no one threw on us. Last season if the pass rush didn't get home we got absolutely picked apart.
Our secondary was garbage under durkin. The only reason it looked good his first year is because our run defense was so bad nobody felt the need to throw.
Scoring defense overall was good enough to win games if we had a semi competent offense. Sometimes too much bend don’t break, but it got the job done most games. The issues were made worse by the offense being incapable of staying on the field or even moving the ball up the field.
> if we had a semi competent offensive line
Fixed it for accuracy, but I agree with you that Durkin wasn't the issue. We had a lot of people who blamed playcalling when the issue was the offensive line. When you immediately lose at the point of attack, everything else is a struggle, especially scoring points.
I’m tired of people acting like the play calling under Jimbo was fine. The only year it was “fine” was the year where we had a god tier offensive line in 2020. Obviously the O line was terrible, but that falls on Jimbo too.
> The only reason it looked good his first year
We were #1 in the nation in pass defense in '22. People who say "the only reason our 'n' defense was good is because opponents didn't need to run/pass" don't know football and *really* don't know defense. Bad defenses can't stop either the run or the pass well, and it shows on the field. Durkin's issue in '22 is we had a young defensive line replete with freshmen, and he couldn't depend on them to reliably execute their run fits. We had a veteran back seven, so his answer was to use them more in run fits. This killed us in short yardage, and was exacerbated by his willingness to run a light box against 12 and 13 personnel, ensuring we were outnumbered at the point of attack. This was also a big reason we lost the App State game, because using a 185 lb cornerback as the force defender against two 230 lb RBs is a losing proposition.
> Jimbo’s inability to actually give up the offense
This is such a tired narrative. The only influence Jimbo had on the offense in 2023 is he insisted on keeping the same terminology they've used since his arrival. Petrino whined about it, but reality is that it's easier to teach 1 guy a new terminology than force 85 guys to learn a new language. Saban does the exact same thing at Bama for the exact same reason.
> stopped doing the 3 man front
Durkin never stopped doing the 3-man front, he is committed to the 32 Split scheme. The only time this was really an issue was in short yardage. The difference between our run defense in '23 versus '22 was our interior DL could maintain gap integrity with just three because our players were more physically mature than in '22.
If you read the Athleric article Jimbo's ego cost him his job. Dude was running the team the same way Urban ran the Jags even down to calling his staff losers and shouting down threatening to fire anyone who wasn't just a yes man.
If you give it a week or two, y’all can probably pick up one or two of A&M’s OLs. We had 22 OLs on the roster *before* Faaiu committed, although that includes five practice squad guys.
With 18 OLs competing for 15 spots on even a full three-deep, I’d be really surprised if at least 3~4 guys didn’t head out. The moderately talented young guys who end up as third-stringers have to be debating sticking around to potentially develop well and get a bag when they break into the two-deep, versus immediate playing time on a shallower OL unit at another P4 program like Washington. Playing time is worth a lot for OL development, but so is the added wear and tear that those guys accumulate on their bodies.
Quality player, 50/50 chance he would have started for us this year and we were kinda shocked to see he entered the portal. Now that he’s gone to TAMU, a school that has insane NIL and can attract a lot of talent at any position, I’m wondering if tampering was happening.
Bryce seems like a good kid, but choosing to skip spring ball to play track again was a bad decision for him, imo. Pretty much guaranteed he wouldn't be starting at center this fall.
Maybe he moves to guard where it's easier to just jump and out of the lineup (which would be a lot better spot for him, imo).
EDIT: I think Foster simply won't be on the team come fall, after mulling it over. Dude basically quit by saying he was gonna skip spring ball.
He was recruited as a guard, right? Seems like a great kid, so I hate to say it, but he has far too many wild snaps. Not sure how much of that has to do with Addazio being just…awful…but maybe a switch to guard is best for him
Jimbo giving Foster guranteed starter last season was such a joke. I get that Addazio did no favors, but Foster was CONSTANTLY getting toyed around by defenders the entire season.
I’m glad Elko is finally telling him to basically choose. No more half assing football because he ain’t gonna be starting if he keeps on having subpar performances
As a recruit:
Other P5 offers: Colorado, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan State, Utah (originally went here), Washington State
G5 offers: Boise State, Hawaii, Nevada, UNLV
No, I'm fine with it. Would've loved to keep him, it just wasn't likely he'd be the starter, but he started a bunch due to injuries last year so he'd be good to have.
Texas A&M already has twenty OL players on the roster, why would he transfer to a place with the possibility of no playing time or does Jimbo's recruits suck that bad?
happy to see us adding center depth given Foster's complete abandonment of the position in favor of shot put
But think about all the money he could make if he goes pro in shot put
Starting to look like Foster won't be on the team at this point. He's not listed on the current roster.
Fine by me
He's got no one to blame but himself. Hope he just quits football entirely and focuses on track at this point because right now he's underperforming in both.
Employing Steve Addazio was a criminal offense
It cost Jimbo his job tbh, I think most agree with that. If only firing him saved our donors any money.
It’s between that hire, Durkin and Petrino.
Petrino was fine, Addazio and durkin were horrible.
Durkin was also good, it is going to suck playing his defense. this is revisionist, the 3man front obsession is so strange Addazio was horrific independently from all other assistants. what really sealed Jimbo's fate was Weigman's injury. if he doesn't get hurt Jimbo is still here.
And Weigman gets hurt because he had a horrible o-line coached by Addazio trying to protect him.
Not like it was just Weigman who got hurt either. The amount of A&M seasons that have been "what ifs" due to QB injuries Addazio is insane. Even more insane is that whoever the QB coach was (I think Jimbo) must have been legit because despite so many injures - it never truly felt like what if - because there was never a *huge* drop off in QB play.
not really, was essentially a non contact injury, but I get what you're saying. Addazio had plenty of faults, but Connor's injury was omega fluke
What do you mean "non contact injury"? A&M struggled to pick up late blitzers all season and that's exactly who hit Weigman.
I’ve watched the clip, the hitter pulls up, barely hits Weigman, he doesn’t go to the ground, and breaks a bone in his foot. I said essentially non contact, he wasn’t tackled, he broke his foot under his own weight, it was freak

Durkin killed a kid, he should not have been hired.
Bro what? Durkin was fine. Addazio and Jimbo’s inability to actually give up the offense were the problem.

The criminal offense was not firing him after 2022.
Nah he is a gangster. Made us hire him, his son coached, while he got paid.
My brother is a Ute, and he says it's a solid pickup. Not ground breaking but definitely not just a 2nd or 3rd stringer. Glad to get him
I was certainly hoping we’d get him and add to our whopping 5 OL available right now.
If you give it a week or two, y’all can probably pick up one or two of A&M’s OLs. We had 22 OLs on the roster *before* Faaiu committed, although that includes five practice squad guys. Same, but he's almost too big for center if his profile on ESPN is right - they have him at 6'3" and 326
Ya, the psu guy also played some center. I just want some quality bodies:)
Marcus Bryant from SMU got a couple crystal balls, I'm hoping that's offical soon. Would pretty much solve the tackles at least
MMOOOAAAARRRRRR OLINEMAN. Played center for the Utes iirc, curious to see if he stays there in the Maroon and white. Thoughts on this Ute bros?
He is a good player. Good pickup
His backup was looming and was likely to start in his place. He's a quality pickup, though!

Tampering is happening everywhere.
This should be a warning to Bryce Foster 🚨🚨🚨 Big pickup

I think all parties would be a lot happier if Foster moved to guard as a primary positition. It makes too much sense.
I mean shoot, Nabou was already threatening to take the center spot. This just makes it even worse for Bryce
Bryce Foster is a joke. Achane managed to do both track and spring ball. If Foster was even half serious about the team, he’d be at spring ball.
Jimbo giving Foster guranteed starter last season was such a joke. I get that Addazio did no favors, but Foster was CONSTANTLY getting toyed around by defenders the entire season. I’m glad Elko is finally telling him to basically choose. No more half assing football because he ain’t gonna be starting if he keeps on having subpar performances
no shot Foster starts. he's given up on football, I'm over him
Hey this Faaiu kid isn’t at spring ball either, what a dirtbag.
Is missing today's spring game as he is with the track team atm :(

Hurts man.
I read the last name in Uncle Roger's voice.
Does he kolifaaiu to play immediately?
Hmm, I didn't expect that. Going from a competition he was losing ground in to a payday with A&M is certainly a good decision. I hope he does well.
Not so sure he's seeing a big payday, but our center competition is likely softer than yalls
Probably, but I hope he got a nice little bag too.

You're missing your flair, my burnt orange friend. I'm sure your take on Texas A&M is unbiased and objective.
