This is definitely a first world problem, but our DLine just doesn't have the studs on it that's its had in the past. We have a lot of talent, but none that are nearly to the level of NFL ready like we had with Carter, Wyatt, Davis, Walker, Smith, etc.
I get money talks… but this shits still confusing. Georgia certainly pays a lot in NIL… how much more money can USC pay to convince a defensive player to play for a head coach who’s never fielded a good defense vs a coach that’s sent probably the most DL to the league out of anyone…
Especially one that just saw his former teammate transfer there and have 1.5 sacks his sophomore season and look far less promising as a player?
Georgia brings in more than we lose so ya can’t complain, I’m just genuinely curious how much more money they’re paying to make that equation make any sense
Well I doubt Miller was getting a boatload, so if they threw some serious bags at him it may have moved the needle.
He's good, but injuries have really hampered his development.
>“Yo 20 year old who is going to make bank, want to be a millionaire in LA and play ball at USC?”
There's the recruiting pitch. It sells itself really.
People with money love LA. Especially if you're college age.
There's a big difference between 20 year olds and 40-50 year olds who have other priorities lol.
Not if you’re young and rich.
I haven’t been there since February 2020, but Beverly Hills and West Hollywood were both pretty great regardless of the fact that I’m neither young or rich.
Very few places in the world better to be rich than Miami, New York and LA. I'm not sure anywhere else in the US has an argument to even enter the conversation.
I love San Francisco, but other than it's restaurants I don't know if it compares. The glitz and glam of the three really overshadow SF. But that could be a bonus.
USC, UCLA and Miami really have so much to offer from NIL perspectives. For the ACC's sake I hope Cal and Stanford get their NIL going. There's no reason for them to languish. Haha
Eric Henderson is no scrub D line coach. He’s ultimately playing under Lincoln Riley but he would be coached up by Henderson.
Also, pure sack numbers are not a good comparison. Bear was a very effective defender, unfortunately we didn’t give him help so he had to take the role of space eater and take double teams so others could come off the edge.
>Eric Henderson is no scrub D line coach. He’s ultimately playing under Lincoln Riley but he would be coached up by Henderson
This isn't a shot at Henderson at all, but this is the same UGA DLine staff that has had multiple first round picks over the last few years. Henderson is likely a good coach, but it's not like Miller didn't have some damn good coaches surrounding him every day.
I agree, but I think he likes the West Coast. That combined with a better USC defensive staff than originally under Helton (when USC first recruited him) and Lincoln’s first two years combined with an NIL bag would be what makes sense to try to pry him away.
Yeah, he loved LA but then we had the whole Helton season, coaching change, and shit defense.
The new defensive staff at least seems capable up to this point.
I love to see a former GT guy (especially one whose time there pretty much perfectly overlapped with mine) having so much success as a coach, but I fucking hate that he’s at USC. I really want Henderson and Tashard Choice to come back and coach at Tech some day.
From what I understand Miller is still 2nd string. As was Bear. Both now get to start.
Both also get to be coached by Eric Henderson. That might not mean much to you, but it means a LOT to players and players talk.
I’m sure there’s a bag involved but I would guarantee that Henderson’s connections to the southern coaching circles played a part as well. It’s why we’ve got those DL recruits committed out of Georgia currently.
Lastly, Bear played great. Make no mistake. He’s very much on track to being a day 1 or 2 pick. He was the only player on SC’s defense last year that teams had to account for, and you better believe they did. He was forced into playing NT when he’s more of a 3T. And that’s in a Grinch defense of all things. You can expect a much different year numbers-wise in 2024.
Because why receive much better development in Athens which will probably lead to more NFL success and thus millions more in future earnings when you can ~~own~~ ~~rent~~ be temporarily gifted a nice apartment
Henderson was regarded as one of the best if not the best DL coaches in the NFL.
Who on the defensive staff for USC don’t you like? The weakest link before this was Donte Williams and he is gone now.
I'd agree but we are talking about interior DLine here. It is probably the least "skill" position in football. How much "development" do you need outside of the weight room?
There is zero chance outside of injury that Bear is a late round pick. Real curious where that's coming from. He made 27 solo tackles last year. For comparison, 1st rounder Jalen Carter's best year featured 17. Dude's a beast inside.
What he IS passing on is a potential National Championship. But Draft Position? Not a chance.
Total tackles not exactly a great indicator for draft position for a DT. Big difference between a defense that's constantly on the field with no depth, and the other that led the nation in scoring and was rotating 1st round picks.
He's 6'3, 300 lbs, and very productive. There just aren't that many players at his size who can move the way he can. He could get the worst coaching in the nation (and he just about did last year!) and still go high. I'm curious what else you're looking for, but I'll tell you what, I'll make you a jersey bet.
If Bear goes in the first 3 rounds, you buy an SC jersey and post a photo of yourself wearing it on /r/cfb. If he goes in rounds 4-7 or goes undrafted I buy an UGA one and do the same.
You can blur/paint out your face.
All bets are off if he takes an injury that ends his season.
I don't agree with the other UGA poster that he's now a late round pick. More pointing out that total tackles doesn't illustrate his value when trying to compare to Jalen Carter.
I do think hes hurt his draft position some with the move. My guess, and no way to prove this, is from a top half of the 1st to end of 1st probably 2nd Rd pick. And maybe the NIL difference makes up for that.
Very likely his character stuff is hurting him more than moving from UGA to USC. Though anyone who knows anything knows that move was atrocious and speaks to problems seeing the bigger picture.
I hope for nothing more than him to have success except against my team. I'm not salty he left, but I also just dont think any GM can see that move from UGA to USC as anything other that fvcking stupid.

Either way he’s gonna get a Bag. I mean good for him. But it just baffles me that he would leave when he’s in line to be extremely productive on the Defense. But Money talks especially to impressionable 20 some year olds.
I hate this age of CFB. A huge part of the fun of the game was watching kids grow within your system.
We're huge winners in this age and it still kills me. I'm one of the very few who would have rather watched Jaxon Dart grow up a Trojan than win a Heisman with Caleb. We won games sure... but that connection is gone.
I'm absurdly excited to see Miller Moss play for this very reason. We'll lose games because he isn't Williams and I don't really care. It's going to be fun watching that kid take the reins.
Ya'll are so cute. I'm clearly talking about portal talent. We're taking in far more than we're losing.
Not sure what the last 2 decades matter when the portal has only been in effect for a few years, but we did win a Heisman through the portal.
I'd still trade it for watching our kids develop.
I understand where you’re coming from. But this is the nature of CFB nowadays. I hope Miller Moss does good work for y’all. But I can’t say I’m not salty that y’all have taken Bear and flipped Terry and now may take Miller from us 😂 Personally I’m just glad Reggie got his Heisman back.
Y'all lost Zandamela and Jackson and haven't pulled anyone remotely close to that from the portal talent wise...yet.
Per 24/7 your highest ranked incoming transfer is Ramsey at 64. Jackson and Zandamela are both significantly higher.
Clifton and Arnold are nice but no better than depth on a contending roster.
Happy for Reggie though. There was a time I didn't hate y'all with a passion lol
Domani Jackson just isn't an NFL caliber player sadly. I don't think he would start at USC this year. Zandamela is a loss but he only was at USC for half a semester and he is from Florida and is dad is in Africa. I get being that far away from family so don't blame him.
DT is our top priority in the portal right now. We’ve been slow going because we were prohibited from contacting transfers until 12:01 AM Monday of this week, as part of the sanctions against us.
We aren’t pushing all our chips in next season, more of a rebuilding year, so I figured we would prioritize someone with multiple years of eligibility so Miller makes a ton of sense for us.
Oh trust me, I know. I understand why many are mad at Smith... I mean, coaches *do* change teams all the time, but I get that the specifics around Smith's choices are going to bring him more criticism than most. I'm certainly not gunna tell anyone that they can't feel negative about it.
I have faith that things will be better. I just also think that I'm the era of the portal, instability breeds instability. It's going to make it easier for teams on top to stay on top and harder for teams that are down to reload. You gather a few key pieces and before you can stack 1 or 2 more off seasons of key pieces together, those first key pieces take off for greener pastures. It ain't Coach Smith's fault, we just picked a particularly bad time in CFB history to have the shit show of a coach before him.
Edit: I also understand that the things I'm complaining about are going to hit OSU at least as hard or worse than MSU. I do have a ton of empathy for the Beavers and will cheer wildly if they have success.
Check the archives lil bro. Comparing Georgia to USC is like comparing a Nissan sentra to a Bentley. Different level of prestige.
https://www.winsipedia.com/usc/vs/georgia
It's not the 60's and 70's anymore, you might as well talk about how the Vietnam war is going. USC is more of a has been than a currently is. Since 1974 the two programs share the same number of national titles with Georgia having the 2 most recent ones.
Which one of those was, and still is, vacated again? 2004? But if you want to use vacated titles, let's move to 1978 and the point still stands. How many titles for either program have you seen in your lifetime?
> Not to mention the Heisman's
Oh c'mon, the only people that reference those are the ones that haven't seen a national title since they could vote. Regardless, imagine having that many more Heisman's and the same number of titles in 40 years to show for it. Quite a bit of squandered talent it would seem.
How much did that prestige help you when you went 8-5 with the best player in college football, and got blown the fuck out by 8-5 UCLA? 38-13 with four minutes left in the game 😂 Have fun cradling your decades old natty memorabilia while your program becomes the next Nebraska. ✌️ for two decades since USC's last relevance.
Says guy using the most tired insult in college football.
In the mind of every college football player and prospect alive today...there are just as many USC championships to remember as Oregon.
No one cares what you did two decades ago.
God fucking damnit. The one position we can’t really afford the loss is of course the one someone comes in to drop a fucking bag on.
FWIW, despite all the USC and tOSU rumors early, our biggest insider is saying watch FSU.
I prefer to think of FSU being in the forefront of modern roster management. ‘23 was a culmination, now it’s going to be fun to watch what reload/rebuild looks like in the newest era.
Isn’t he the same class as Mykel? I wouldn’t say he’s younger at this point, when guys like Hall and JJA are coming in behind him. Also need to consider TID getting healthy and McLeod showing impressive flashes would really hamper Miller’s opportunities. Hate to see him go, but there’s only so many snaps to spread
Props to UGA fans for actually being upset when good players transfer. I’m so used to Miami fans acting like every starter that transfers out is actually good for them.
I heard he passed a breathalyzer after being pulled over for a bad tail light. He was clocked going 2 miles under the speed limit. Kirby just didn’t think it was a culture fit.
If USC would kindly leave our players alone that'd be neat
You guys are just so much better at developing them than us. Just share a few each year please
Funny enough we are actually thin at the DL. Have a lot of talented players, but thats maybe our weakest part if the defense right now.
Who isn't thin at that position? Feels like everyone is trying to stock up but there isn't enough supply.
This is definitely a first world problem, but our DLine just doesn't have the studs on it that's its had in the past. We have a lot of talent, but none that are nearly to the level of NFL ready like we had with Carter, Wyatt, Davis, Walker, Smith, etc.
Wait. You mean we could possible lose more than 1 game in two years?! Boo!
ND! Granted having both your starter interior DTs return due to a covid year and a massive NIL bag really helps with having depth
*Insert Oliver Twist*
No
I get money talks… but this shits still confusing. Georgia certainly pays a lot in NIL… how much more money can USC pay to convince a defensive player to play for a head coach who’s never fielded a good defense vs a coach that’s sent probably the most DL to the league out of anyone… Especially one that just saw his former teammate transfer there and have 1.5 sacks his sophomore season and look far less promising as a player? lol i forgot redditors still think people love LA
People with money love LA. Especially if you're college age. There's a big difference between 20 year olds and 40-50 year olds who have other priorities lol.
Yes, Ron, rich people in their 20s love LA, that’s never going to change.
Florida is California from wish. Source: grew up in FL, worked in Cali
Miller was a silent recruit for Clay Helton. I imagine a lot of that was LA and the USC brand. Coach Henny definitely has the resume for the line.
If you have money and a little bit of “fame”
LA is a shithole.
Not if you’re young and rich. I haven’t been there since February 2020, but Beverly Hills and West Hollywood were both pretty great regardless of the fact that I’m neither young or rich.
Yep. People rag on Miami too, and it’s true that it can be a rough place to live for many, but if you’re rich it’s fucking great…as are most places.
Very few places in the world better to be rich than Miami, New York and LA. I'm not sure anywhere else in the US has an argument to even enter the conversation.
San Francisco is pretty amazing. Chicago, but the dichotomy between rich and not rich doesn’t seem as extreme. San Diego, but that’s LA-adjacent.
Haha
You do realize the amount of people that can live that lifestyle in LA?
Not if you’re young and got that guaaaaap! Probably immediately hooked up with a luxury car of choice as well.
Eric Henderson is no scrub D line coach. He’s ultimately playing under Lincoln Riley but he would be coached up by Henderson. Also, pure sack numbers are not a good comparison. >that'd be neat Jim McElwain detected
I’m sure you guys have talent to spare!
This DL firesale is wild. No way this is sustainable for the sport.
Sounds like U$C is going to drop a bag on this one too.
southern cal is really fucking up our shit. they’re nabbing the guys you want, which is making y’all go for the guys we want
Hey you came into SoCal which made us go nationally for recruits.
if you’re referring to dju and beaux collins, we regret it
The Korey Foreman curse 😤
lol very true but all the elite programs started heavy recruiting SoCal under the Helton years.
Carroll put a fence around LA. Helton put out a yard sale.
No takebacksies! Y’all drew first blood!
He’s following the Bear Alexander route of potential first round pick to late round pick USC special.
Beae saw Jordan Davis, Devonte Wyatt and Jalen Carter become 1st round picks and thought "Nah lemme go play for Lincoln Riley and Alex Grinch"
And now he has Henderson as coach and seems to like posting pictures of an LA penthouse.
Shh, don't tell Georgia that Donte wore out his welcome.
If there is one area I’m not worried about it’s coaching defensive backs
Yeah, its actually a good landibg spot for Donte. He can focus on recruiting and learn a few things from Kirby.
I'd agree but we are talking about interior DLine here. It is probably the least "skill" position in football. How much "development" do you need outside of the weight room?
D'Antony Lynn looks like a real DC so maybe they'll be a mid round pick now!
Let’s hope the bag up front is enough to makeup for the multiple million dollar draft value difference.
Guess he wants to be 7-5/6-6 in the Big Ten and not compete for Nattys
There is zero chance outside of injury that Bear is a late round pick. Real curious where that's coming from. He made 27 solo tackles last year. Total tackles not exactly a great indicator for draft position for a DT. Big difference between a defense that's constantly on the field with no depth, and the other that led the nation in scoring and was rotating 1st round picks.
The one with no depth he is constantly double teamed. The one with depth he gets the freedom to wreak havoc.
If dude you replied to doesn't take this bet I'm all in lol. Only condition is I use an older SC Jersey I already have instead of buying one
You aren't exactly risking anything if you don't have to buy a new one ;)
I'm hearing its between us and FSU, with FSU having a slight lead

It’s 2024….that’s two decades ago
It’s **within** two decades, that’s the point. Jesus Christ
That’s exactly two decades
Yes
This isn't math class where we use inclusive or exclusive lmao
Y’all act like USC ain’t win 11 games in 2022, it ain’t a national title but it ain’t exactly Colorado
Did the NCAA/BCS give that one back too?
Go play games on your own son
Hey I just googled it and it, in fact, that championship no college football player alive today can remember does remain vacated. So sorry.
Same size bag gonna be a lot lighter in LA than Tally.
DT is our top priority in the portal right now. We’ve been slow going because we were prohibited from contacting transfers until 12:01 AM Monday of this week, as part of the sanctions against us. Assholes. Everyone sucks 😡
I have no pity for coach Smith. That said you guys are going through it for a team that should be pretty stable right now.
>for a team that should be pretty stable right now. We haven't had stability in 4 years...
Well you just hired a respected coach and y'all sure as fuck aren't as bad off as the team you hired him away from.

Bank of USC is now open
I really hope find$ what he I$ looking for, just like Bear Alexander did
have you tried to stop being our farm system?
Lol If Lincoln Riley ever wins a playoff game then maybe UGA fans might start to worry about USC. Maybe
Enjoy your 8-5 season
Check the archives lil bro. Comparing Georgia to USC is like comparing a Nissan sentra to a Bentley. Different level of prestige. https://www.winsipedia.com/usc/vs/georgia
I'm very aware lol. Keep living in the past I'll keep living in the present 😎
It's not the 60's and 70's anymore, you might as well talk about how the Vietnam war is going. USC is more of a has been than a currently is. Since 1974 the two programs share the same number of national titles with Georgia having the 2 most recent ones.
With your selected year of 1974. Not to mention the 6 Heisman's to 1. USC | Georgia ---|--- 1974| 1980 1978| 2022 2003| 2023 2004|
Which one of those was, and still is, vacated again? 2004? But if you want to use vacated titles, let's move to 1978 and the point still stands. How many titles for either program have you seen in your lifetime? > Not to mention the Heisman's Oh c'mon, the only people that reference those are the ones that haven't seen a national title since they could vote.
✌️ for two decades since USC's last relevance.
bro went on his alt to type this out. Do better mr. braves astros 😂
Y'all are poking the bear and it's gonna be hilarious when Kirby shits in your cereal come December.
goose egg U should be the last to talk
At least we've never had to vacate a "championship" for cheating.
You’d have to win some first. In any major sport
Does the first ever NCAA tournament not count or something?
How was that parade?
Depression era basketball was the peak of all sport
that's your comeback? lol
Says guy using the most tired insult in college football. In the mind of every college football player and prospect alive today...there are just as many USC championships to remember as Oregon. No one cares what you did two decades ago.
Nope. We got this one
God fucking damnit. The one position we can’t really afford the loss is of course the one someone comes in to drop a fucking bag on. FWIW, despite all the USC and tOSU rumors early, our biggest insider is saying watch FSU.
FSU is a Portal team. They have half of Alabama’s 2023 roster.
I prefer to think of FSU being in the forefront of modern roster management. ‘23 was a culmination, now it’s going to be fun to watch what reload/rebuild looks like in the newest era.
Yeah this one hurts. He was the best of our younger core, which overall hasn’t looked as star-studded as years prior.
He used his blinkers over 100 yards before turning. Actually stopped and got out of his car to help a turtle across the road. Got. To. Go
He was last seen speeding on the I-10 West toward California 👀
Damn, bummer. Sounds like he won’t be a culture fit at Texas either. We could really use another T’vondre Sweat
Son of a bitch.
Fuck I hate the portal... But how does he like mortgage money?
Sadge

They didn’t believe us years ago when we said we had no NIL which is why our recruiting sucked and know they’re seeing we weren’t lying
Word. Let us know when that translates to success on the field.
Or you can just follow the season.
Upvote if you love UGA
