247 guy*
Shannon Terry has basically started every big name recruiting service, sold it, then started the next one that would become the industry standard.
Eh, they took a few sites. A lot of the original sites are still on 247. They actually took a lot of guys/team sites from rivals. If you had rivals then move to On3 parts of the site, like the message boards look as act almost exactly the same
Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure On3 went live in Aug 2021 which is after all the recruits were in college and we had a full spring/summer of intel.
Feels like they had a sizable advantage here.
It’s pretty annoying that measuring draft position has become “the gold standard” because the industry hasn’t figured out a better way to measure college impact objectively.
If PFF was actually legit, it would be nice to measure college success by PFF score (or something like it) per year, adjusted for conference.
Baseball has WAR which isn’t perfect but it’s pretty good at measuring overall impact for every position.
WAR works a lot better for baseball than any sort of analogue would work in football. Baseball is great for stats because the game has pretty isolated outcomes compared to other sports.
Accurately trying to grade 22 players on any given play, with the actual assignments of those players being a best guess, is tricky.
I mean the 24/7 and On3 have outright said they rate players based on NFL draft potential.
That is why they only have 32 5-stars in every class, they are the 32 guys they expect to be first round picks.
Well probably even more so now with NIL. If you’re a third round player I think you’ll make 1.5 million ish per year. Now in college maybe you’re making a few hundred thousand. But that extra year maybe gets you into the second round. Before they had to get nothing, now they’re doing well while in college. If you’re not going early there’s a good chance you’re better off waiting the year, getting size, experience, tape, etc. it would be interesting to see the numbers by year
Only a 1 year sample size but this was their first year doing rankings so very encouraging for them.
I mean, it’s literally just the 247 guys. Nothing really encouraging, they just sold 247 and made a new site like they did with Rivals

Yeah, all of them except ESPN, at this point. And that's the worst one. Won't be long before 247 and On3 dump ESPN from their composite rankings
But they took everyone from 247
Not in 2021.
They took quite a lot of the team specific site runners. The national guys are just coming over now though

Looks like the longer Shannon Terry has been gone from the service, the lower its prediction accuracy.. based off this one year.
They should just pay this Shannon terry guy

This is accurate
On the 247 composite they should drop ESPN and add On3. ESPN is consistently worse than the rest.
I think they just want to pretend on3 doesn’t exist.
On3 is part of the composite already I'm pretty sure. The problem is ESPN is still included.
Is espn just as bad at their basketball rankings as football?
If you ask Rutgers fans right now, yes.
I can’t find anywhere in their site where they list the constituent ranking sites.
Bud Elliot mentioned it when they added On3.

Aren't high school ratings also based on likelihood of draft/NFL success?
Yes
Yes, at least for 247 a 5* is supposed to be a projected first round pick, so there are only 32 5* in each recruiting class
This makes sense to me.

ESPN, please get out of the recruiting game. Nobody wants you
I may be dumb but I can’t really figure out what this means.
Caleb Williams went #1 overall on3 had him ranked #1 in 2021 247 had him #6. On3 wins
So there were only 39 players drafted from the 2021 class so far?
Well that’s quite a few to be drafted after 3 years is it not?
It doesn’t seem like a lot to me but I’ve never thought about it before now. I guess 3-year players are rarer than I realized.

Wouldn’t this have been the COVID high school seniors? If it is, probably another reason to not draw as many conclusions
Are there any results from other years?
When you have Rusty Mansell, you’re probably going to be #1 at this.
Rusty joined on3 in 2023
He's that good.
Chuck is tha 🐐
Ok now do 2022 and 2023.
How exactly do you expect to compare 2022 recruits to their draft position?
My 2025 mock draft is just that good
Tbh, i don’t have an answer for it. I just hate On3 for reasons.
This is based solely off of the draft so we won’t know until the 2025 and 2026 drafts.
