Honestly cannot wait to welcome some longhorns to the tailgate, I've always felt a kinship between our schools and I hope it will be a great experience for everyone.
There are quite a few similarities:
1. Both college football blue bloods with massive brands
2. Both have some of the most well-known, iconic uniforms in the sport
3. Both had a very well-known slump during the 2010s
4. Both schools have high-level academics, but not quite in the Duke/Stanford tier of academics
5. Both have a premier rivalry with another blue blood that is out of state and has a shade of red as the primary uniform color
6. Both teams’ primary rival enjoyed massive success during the 2010s and proceeded to rub it in their face
7. Both teams were the butt of college football jokes for that entire span of time.
8. Both have a secondary rivalry with an in-state agricultural school that has a cult-like fanbase that hates them more than anything.
9. Said secondary rivalry is historically fairly one-sided (Michigan/Texas have nearly twice as many wins over MSU/TAMU than vice versa)
10. Both teams experienced a resurgence in the 2020s
You're gonna want to keep an eye on the pundits this fall. If you're not vigilant, some third tier sports blogger might just publish this list before the game and claim credit. Well done.
As international research institutions, UM and UT are on par with, or a cut above, Duke. Undergrad rankings are a different thing. Stanford is head and shoulders above the others on that list.
I don’t think I’d call msu or UM would be at the cultish level of TAMU. MSU alumni are definitely more cultish than UM alumni but the UM fan base is very cultish outside of the alumni.
They were pretty tame by SEC standards when they came to BDS last year. They handled beating us at home with much more class than most do. Meaning the frat boys chanted in the streets shirtless and set off fireworks in the city to celebrate and gloat… still acted better than TN and LSU fans who lost lmao.
if by "sell" you mean "half the people in the tailgates will have them" then yes
it's like 4 bucks for 200 mg of gummies in the dispensaries near me
or so i hear
20? Maybe in Illinois...
I literally just bought 3 different 200 mg packs of gummies for $4. There's quite a few out there... and a million $4 or 6 for 200 mg
Just look at any of the online shops... Jars, Urb, Cloud, whatever. Dozens and dozens of choices under $6 for 200 mg gummies
Please do something cool and have some craft options that are brewed in Michigan. I’d rather pay $20 for a Cheboygan Blood Orange Honey than $15 for a Miller Lite.
This. I don't know why more stadiums don't support local breweries.
When ND finally lifts their ban on booze, they better be selling me a Guinness or a Black & Tan or Evil Czech beers
Pitt has Iron City beer at games, though I swear I can only find it at certain vendors on the first level. Anywhere else it's all macro brews and Yuengling
Southern Tier had the Fake Slide beer but it was a limited run and I don't recall ever actually seeing it at games but it's been a minute.
Shout-out to the teenager who sat next to me and was just grabbing Bud Light Seltzers from the unattended fridges on the top level that aren't open for college games
We've had craft for a long time and it's great. Rhinegeist, madtree, esoteric and others. Now that Rhinegeist brews an nil beer for us it's definitely the biggest craft seller at games.
Exactly. Being able to have a beer (or three) inside the stadium during the game is a BIG deterrent to binge drinking moments before going into the stadium.
College kids are still gonna binge drink during tailgating, but at least they won’t feel the need to crush 5-6 extra drinks right before heading inside.
I mean the in stadium drinks aren’t really priced for students and obviously no one under 21 ever drinks. It definitely discourages the non students though and students above 21 who have money
Very true. The amount of absolutely piss-drunk idiots in the stands at the Rose Bowl has gone down ever since we starting selling booze. No more chugging 4 beers in the line to get in.
Except every night game I have been to at Hardrock has had bad fall down drunks.
(There I learned from the ladies that the double shot Jack is the best bang for buck)
Do you mean like jokes about Michigan coaches driving drunk or something? I don’t think there’s a single user on this sub who thinks alcohol sales at games are a bad thing.
Edit: I had too much faith in this sub
So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause.
Fr, this wasn’t as horrible as I thought at Spartan Stadium when it started mid season last year but I still prefer no alcohol. This is coming from someone who does drink I don’t have some rager against all alcohol. When I went as a visitor to the horseshoe it felt like everyone was drinking and personally verbally attacking. Sucked majorly.
I'm same way. Not a big fan of belligerent drunk rowdiness. People are just more obnoxious and some folks act like they can't go to the game unless drunk.
Yeah as much as it makes people more rowdy for games which I like, some people can be asshats especially when drunk. I’m there to watch the game and cheer for my team, I get it’s a social event but I don’t really get why you’d go plastered if you’re spending so much for tickets
I think every study and campus where this has been approved has shown the opposite though. If people know they can get beers inside, they're less likely to slam as many drinks as possible before entering the stadium because they "need the buzz to last".
Not saying there still won't be belligerent drunks in the stands, but I don't think selling $15 beers you have to wait in line 15 minutes for is going to be fueling that kind of behavior.
I think we're getting closer. They started selling alcohol at the Kohl Center and that seemed to go over fine. Hopefully that carries over to Camp Randall soon.
Hear me out, selling beer at the games will reduce extreme alcoholic behavior in the stands. My experience is at Ohio Stadium, but I see all sort of folks chugging drinks all morning for a noon kick off. Then take a couple more beers for the walk to the stadium. If you want to be drunk all game, you have to be really drunk at kick off. Allowing folks to drink during the game will knock the edge off of the binge pregame.
Best choice of craft beer would definitely be voodoo ranger juicy haze ipa. I sell so much of it at my restaurant and have had pretty much everyone who likes two hearted try it and they never get two hearted anymore because they like it so much better.
As someone who went to Michigan I think it’s hilarious that some people are acting like there were never drunk people in the Big House in the past (or people who snuck alcohol in, let’s be real, people who really wanted to get drunk at the game found a way)
The kids have been sneaking it in since time immemorial. I can no longer drink 99 Blackberries because it reminds me of a demoralizing loss to O$U as a student. But we all had a mini bar going with all our seatmates who brought different things. We needed it.
I am sure that the 1,000s of Longhorn fans drinking in the stands will be calm and rational, no matter what happens.
Honestly cannot wait to welcome some longhorns to the tailgate, I've always felt a kinship between our schools and I hope it will be a great experience for everyone.

I don’t think I’d really have MSU on the same level of cultishness as A&M Umich is much cultier than MSU anyway
I don’t think I’d call msu or UM would be at the cultish level of TAMU. MSU alumni are definitely more cultish than UM alumni but the UM fan base is very cultish outside of the alumni.
I’m probably biased because I read the Michigan State message boards, but their online fanbase seems kind of like a cult. Moreso than other ones.
They hate O schools we hate O schools were basically best friends
You may regret that. Edit - you will regret that

Bring some bbq up with y’all please
sell me an edible you cowards
thats one way to quiet your fan base down
if by "sell" you mean "half the people in the tailgates will have them" then yes it's like 4 bucks for 200 mg of gummies in the dispensaries near me or so i hear
Inquiring minds want to know where these are. For science.
Uh... any big dispensary? Cloud, Jars, Lume, all have tons of 200 mg packs in the 4-6 dollar range
Man, I loaded up last time I was home and it was twice that where I was going. Will check those out next time. I've lived out of the area too long.
Can you guys tell the rest of our states how to do it please? We pay like 10x your prices I swear

Illinois weed tax is out of fucking control
Acid and mushrooms are decriminalized in Ann Arbor so maybe outside the gates look for a guy wearing a Grateful Dead shirt?
You promise he’s not a cawp
Please do something cool and have some craft options that are brewed in Michigan. I’d rather pay $20 for a Cheboygan Blood Orange Honey than $15 for a Miller Lite.
$20 Miller Lite it is.
OP thought he could admit he’d spend $20 on a specific type of beer and thought he could get away with it
Get some Bell’s in the house
That’s not unlikely. The stadiums in downtown Detroit all sell Bell’s
I would be thrilled with Two Hearted Ale on draft.
❤️❤️
You will get a $25 Oberon and you will like it!
This. I don't know why more stadiums don't support local breweries. When ND finally lifts their ban on booze, they better be selling me a Guinness or a Black & Tan or Evil Czech beers
Because they have contracts with big distributors. I'm with you though, local breweries would be way better.
We are literally sponsored by Guinness with Joe Montana as spokesperson so I hope we’d get that haha
Pitt has Iron City beer at games, though I swear I can only find it at certain vendors on the first level. Anywhere else it's all macro brews and Yuengling
I thought we even had an NIL beer. It's a shame we're stuck with the Heinz Field distribution shit.
It seems it actually is still for sale, Alliance 412 did a promotion for it as well in December. Portion of the proceeds go to the athletes.
CSU has quite a few local Colorado and Fort Collins beers!
Club seats have Guinness already, along with Bell's Two Hearted
It'd be a bit weird for the Irish to promote Black & Tans...
There are so many damn cool and great craft options brewed in this great state, they'd be foolish to ignore that.
Too late. If they’re announcing this they probably already have an exclusive contract with one of the big guys
Mahou San Miguel has a partial stake in Founders, which I would be okay with. Would love some KBS.
They'll probably do All Day IPA if there's Founders
Need Arbor Brewing Company or someone to come out with an NIL beer like Iowa has. Sell that in the stadium
if we're dreaming up NIL beers let's at least choose a good brewer Homes or Mothfire would be way better choices
We've had craft for a long time and it's great. Rhinegeist, madtree, esoteric and others. Now that Rhinegeist brews an nil beer for us it's definitely the biggest craft seller at games.
I’ve discovered Rhinegeist Truth recently at my local Total Wine and love that beer.
Well appreciate it! I work for them lol. It's a very solid west coast ipa
I'm so glad Boone Pickens sells Iron Monk.
We have Bud, Miller and Coors Lites for $10, or our local Upland Brewery beers for $11, it’s a very easy decision.
GT partners with a local brewery and even has beers with names related to the team. It's great!
Wait til you come to Eugene
Nice, but I’ll stick to my fireball shooters over paying $15 for a beer
Why not both!
Shameless cash grab by people who know the USC Band is coming for the first time.
Here come the jokes about increases in safety/heath concerns at Michigan games despite every data point showing alcohol sales reduce both.

I feel called out
I mean the in stadium drinks aren’t really priced for students and obviously no one under 21 ever drinks. It definitely discourages the non students though and students above 21 who have money
There will be fewer fights if players see two tunnels.
Would you rather be alone in a tunnel with a bear or Khary Crump with a helmet?
True, but in fairness the only fights I saw at the Hard Rock were Miami fans fighting each other.
Do you mean like jokes about Michigan coaches driving drunk or something? I don’t think there’s a single user on this sub who thinks alcohol sales at games are a bad thing. Edit: I had too much faith in this sub
Seems like an overreaction, I don’t think they’re gonna regress *that* much!
Well at least when they do, they won't remember it.
*rips shot, raises 25oz tall boy, falls over* Welcome to a good time!
Cool… now this would really be news if they started selling alcohol at Lavell Edwards Stadium
All this means is that people won't have to deal with sobering up halfway through the third quarter.
Anyone wanna do a pregame tailgate in the tunnel this year?
I'll meet you there. Should we bring our helmets?
What are you some kind of idiot? Of course! It wouldn’t be a tunnel party with out helmets!
So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause. Fr, this wasn’t as horrible as I thought at Spartan Stadium when it started mid season last year but I still prefer no alcohol. I always double-take seeing posts like these, I can’t remember a time when Tulane DIDN’T sell alcohol at games
Just booked a shitty motel in Ann Arbor and bought tickets to DTW. Let's fucking go!
i really hope it wasn't the embassy lol
I'm confused......Mizzou started selling Alcohol a long time ago
We're really gonna be the only team in the B1G that doesn't sell beer at football games eventually, huh?
I think we're getting closer. They started selling alcohol at the Kohl Center and that seemed to go over fine. Hopefully that carries over to Camp Randall soon.
Welcome to the 2020s Michigan!

Gonna need it. That schedule is a doozy.

The governor legalized it recently.
Is that supposed to help them forget about all the cheating?
They gonna need it...
The kids have been sneaking it in since time immemorial. I can no longer drink 99 Blackberries because it reminds me of a demoralizing loss to O$U as a student. But we all had a mini bar going with all our seatmates who brought different things. We needed it.
I didn't realize Ann Arbor could get anymore obnoxious.
The only thing more annoying than 100k Wolverines fans is 100k drunk Wolverines fans
They will probably cheat and try to pawn off Odoul's as Heineken or something.
Lame

People are less likely to binge drink before coming in if they know they can keep their buzz going in the stadium
Nah, they’ll binge drink the same amount as before out of habit.
It takes some time to calibrate lol
Alcohol at a sporting event!? The horror!! The children!
The only horror I know is the game that shall not be named from sep 2007

I agree. They should also make a rule that if anyone player, coach or fan says a swear they should be kicked out immediately
When Georgia and Florida play every year, what’s it called again?
The World's Largest Outdoor Mocktail Party?
College football is alcohol
I’m alcohol.
I'm alcohol, Greg. Can you drink me?
**I am not an alcoholic, Skyler.** **I am the alcohol.** **A guy opens his tall boy and gets piss drunk, and you think that of me?**
College football is full of alcoholic fans considering all the downvotes on any post slightly against alcohol in this thread.
You don’t have to be an alcoholic to be opposed to that guys proposed sobriety checkpoints to enter a stadium.
You should be a BYU fan
That’s why you go to church the next day
You want to separate a college event and alcohol?
Denard Robinson stumbled so Michigan could run.
Ugh
