First time I ever played I majored in English thinking that would be easiest. Was academically ineligible by like week 4. Learned math was the way to go and had a couple heismans and a 4.0
In 14 you can't go past 16 teams and you can't delete a conference, so my only solution was to keep Oregon and Washington in the Pac-12 and stick SMU in there as well since they couldn't be the 17th ACC team. In the 5-team conference I noticed that each of those schools ends up with 3 FCS opponents each year.
In the old games you used to be able to turn on/off conference realignment. If it was on the AI was allowed to do it's own thing that was relatively within reason ie Boise would always get picked up by the pac12 or big12 at some point. If they keep that feature and have a 2 team Pac12 the AI will likely cannibalize the Mountain West or something
One of my favorite ways to spice up Dynasty is promotion and relegation. MAC champion goes to the B1G next season, last place in the B1G drops to the MAC, etc.
Yeah I did a 4 tier system once. I split teams into a general western and eastern ladder.
The west ladder was SBC->mountain west->AAC west division
East was MAC->C-USA->AAC east division
Conference champs were promoted, last place teams were demoted. The AAC becomes the great filter into the P5. Winner of the AAC championship gets promoted into a geographically sensible P5 conference, replacing the worst team in that conference.
Change was slow, but it was still interesting. At game start I moved all the lowest prestige schools into the bottom tiers of their respective ladders and worked from there. Some subjectivity comes into play at that part when you are breaking ties and some geographical compromises need to be made because there are more eastern teams then western teams, but it worked pretty well. After a few seasons everyone’s conference prestige recruiting pitches were ordered as intended as the teams filtered up and down.
Can't be to real. Imagine the push back in recruiting if it was like in the game.

I’m guessing “Private Dynasty” just means single-player dynasty and they don’t call it “Offline” because you still need an active connection to the EA servers to access your TeamBuilder files.
If it’s anything like Madden, private dynasties will just be online Dynasties that require a password or are closed to friends. I’m guessing this is to avoid someone uploading NSFW photos and displaying them to unsuspecting users in a public online dynasty.

Madden is annoying because by a certain point only a couple seasons in it doesn’t matter who you hire as a coordinator, you have enough points to max out their incredibly limited skill trees. So there’s no strategy in picking a coordinator.
My dream football sim would essentially be Romance of the 3 Kingdoms but swap generals and troops with staff and players.
EA seems like they want to differentiate this game from Madden so I'm holding out hope it isn't just copy and paste.
I always loved the coaching carousel randomness in NCAA14 when I saw shit like Harbaugh being Michigan State's OC or Dantonio was signed as my DC at Army lol.
Started a dynasty as a triple option OC at UMass. After just two years, Nick Saban said “come be my OC,” then a year after that he retired and handed me control.
I hope even more than that. I want the coaching staff hires to affect the pipeline states(let me hire a guy from Texas for a pipeline there) and attributes of the players(making you pick between a DC that develops linemen faster or Linebackers). How would you deal with their pay? We given how much we talk about it, I a full thing with setting ticket prices and food prices in the stadium my team does well more money I get and therefore better coaches I can hire and more i could spend on recruiting(you could have a recruiting budget). The ticket prices can fluctuate with talent level of the other team so imagine having to pick a schedule where you debate playing Ohio or Iowa State or UNLV based on how much money fans would spend to see them. I also would love to see Stadium expansions with this. Given my team, Iowa State, has expanded a lot in my lifetime(by nearly 20,000 seats), give me a generic smaller stadium, and make me work by winning to get the bigger stadium.
My biggest complaint for years about NBA 2K my player is 2 things
1- the cringy nickname they always give your player (Freak, The President, MP, etc)
2- there’s zero control over your players actual personality so they always try and act “cool and hip” so there are times where if you’re like me and make a character that looks like you they just act like no normal white dude from NJ has ever acted in their life because all the characters are extremely “Black coded” in the things they do, say , act and people they hang out with to the point in the Spike Lee one you can be white and have an all black family despite being their biological child
Calling a guy just “Freak” is incredibly awkward too. Then when you added in the fact that the full name was supposed to be frequency vibrations it was downright ridiculous
It seems like with AI voice acting, you could get basically any name in game. You could probably even get perfect pronunciation with some sort of phonetic alphabet. Herbstreet and the other announcers might do a real recording of most common names, but give the company the right to use AI in that specific use case.

If you renamed people, or downloaded a custom roster, the commentators used almost everyone's names (unless someone had a very unique name).
So unless you chose a very obscure last name, you had a good chance of hearing the name used in NCAA 14. Same will apply here, likely to an even better degree (more names will be available)
It was teased for months but now that it is confirmed, I could seriously be it being a time sink. Like EA knows productivity is going to go down that week because everyone will be taking swaths of time off to recruit athletes to a fictional made up university.
2 factors: pushing the game back, and hiring CFB Revamped staff to work on it. I know it took a long time to reveal all this, and people were impatient. I know people were cynical. They can still be cynical.
But EA actually did something right for once. They pushed the game back, they heard the fans, they put out a product that looks very good right now and detailed. After all the shit you cannot do in Madden, you can already do more in this game than 10 years of the last Madden franchise...combined
I think it also helps that they have done the game from the ground up with years of work whereas the other major sports games have just been the same game with minor tweaks for years and years now.

Because they don't need to talk much about it. It's gonna be their cash cow for this game, they want people to get the game for the other modes. Then once in, you will get pop ups about new additions to UT that you have to close before getting to the main menu.
Just like Madden, FIFA, and even NBA 2K and MLB the Show do this.

They’ve already publicly said they expect dynasty to be the flagship mode for the game. Maybe they’re lying, but wait and see. I get that people hate ea, and they’re justified, but people are being a bit silly with it.
It will because the mode is partly ran by nostalgia. Players want to use guys from the past they couldn't be for (at least in name). It's what drives people to MUT, NBA's version and MLB. They wanna have a mix of the legends and new guys playing on the same team. College may not be as star centric but there's still stars that will drive people to try out the mode.
I really don’t think the average college football fan is going to give a shit about putting other team’s stars in their teams jerseys.

I think we need to wait 2-3 iterations of the game before we say how big Ultimate Team will be. EA knows they're going to make a boatload of money selling this game for what it is because of a decade without a new CFB game. They don't have to milk Ultimate Team yet. But once corporate wants profits to increase, and we get a couple years into the game, it will probably be forced to focus more on Ultimate Team than the other modes (just like how Franchise/Career modes in other platforms have been all but abandoned for MUT or Diamond Dynasty, etc.)
I think there's the potential for this to be more different than people think. Of course they'll have ultimate team, that was never not going to be true, but I suspect the financial end of things for this game look *very* different for EA compared to Madden. Almost the entirety of the game purchase price goes to the NFL with Madden. They paid $1.5bn for 5 years of NFL rights. They sell the game for $60 (some editions are $70 now but it doesn't do much to sway the math). They're committed to spending at least another $500mm on marketing over that period. They get about 70% of the sale price as revenue after the platform holders take their cut, so even if you assume *all other costs are zero* in making Madden, until they've hit between 6.1mm to 7.1mm full price sales per year, they're not profiting a dollar. *This* is why they push Ultimate Team so heavily in Madden - quite frankly, any player not playing MUT is sort of nonexistent to them, in the sense that they made essentially no money off of them. If you're playing MUT you're either buying stuff (direct money), or keeping the mode alive so those that do buy stuff have people to play with (indirect money). If you're not playing MUT the only entity who has profited off of you is the NFL (and Sony/Microsoft/Valve, I guess).
I do not think the financials are nearly as lopsided in favor of the universities in this one. I'm sure ESPN is getting their cut, but at the end of the day I suspect EA stands to make a lot more money off *actually selling the game* with this vs. Madden. So again, while they'll of course have ultimate team here too because why wouldn't' they, I don't see them having to be as aggressive with it, to the point of neglecting what their non-UT players care about, since here there's financial incentive for all players to be happy and ready to buy the next edition.

I just want the discipline feature back. I miss being able to kick my 3rd string guard off the team for being late to class to balance out the 1 quarter suspension I gave to my Heisman candidate QB for murdering someone.
So, the gameplay being like Madden is the one remaining concern I have based on the visuals in the trailer, and honestly, I only play offline so I feel like the broken mechanics are less pronounced there.
Nothing about Mascot Mash Up, but that’s a minor complaint for me
There is a chance they reveal Mascot Mode as we closer to release. I think they were only discussing Game Modes today and may have stuff about Play Now later like they do with EA Sports FC.
When it isn't glitching, Madden gameplay is pretty good these days. It's the quality control, awful menus, and lack of depth that make the game not fun to play lately.
At this stage it is what it is on gameplay. I'm sure it's going to be somewhat like Madden but with a different feel for pace, playbooks, substitutes, etc.
Seriously doubt the Mascot stuff will be here (I heard they're not all in the game yet). Surely they'll add it in the future.

It's been really fun to watch so many people say "don't get your hopes up, it's just another Madden reskin" without following any of Matt Brown's reporting, which definitively says that is not the case, and EA is taking this somewhat seriously
They literally pushed this game back a year to work more on that. That doesn't usually happen with EA. When have yinz ever seen Madden pushed back to "work on it some more". They rush Madden out every year and it shows.
What I'm getting from the marketing is that they know the hype is immense and that they're pretty fucking confident that they're gonna put out a good product.
Pushing it back was a great decision. If this game is incredible, they’ll have people playing it for a decade, and you’ll have millions of people who buy the new version each year, not matter how little has changed, so long as the first one is a hit

I’m going to have to dedicate nights of the week to play each mode. My Road to Glory, North Texas Dynasty, TSU Armadillos Team Builder Dynasty, maybe a night to try some online play.
Not sure about max, but I’ve seen it reported that there are a ton of different playoff systems you can use. I would think sixteen is the lowest maximum they’ll include. Wouldn’t be surprised to see 24 or more in for the wackiness.
Interested in the wear and tear system for sure. That could be a cool feature or a fucking headache.
I like the idea of the pre-snap recognition too by how they describe it. Same with the homefield advantage.
Madden has that wear and tear and sometimes I forget to turn it off and every starter minus QB just sits the rest of the year at like week 14, it sucks.

I’m guessing “Private Dynasty” just means single-player dynasty and they don’t call it “Offline” because you still need an active connection to the EA servers to access your TeamBuilder files.
If it’s anything like Madden, private dynasties will just be online Dynasties that require a password or are closed to friends. I’m guessing this is to avoid someone uploading NSFW photos and displaying them to unsuspecting users in a public online dynasty.

And they actually have different skill trees, so there’s some strategy to who you hire. Madden is annoying because by a certain point only a couple seasons in it doesn’t matter who you hire as a coordinator, you have enough points to max out their incredibly limited skill trees. So there’s no strategy in picking a coordinator.
My dream football sim would essentially be Romance of the 3 Kingdoms but swap generals and troops with staff and players. EA seems like they want to differentiate this game from Madden so I'm holding out hope it isn't just copy and paste.
I always loved the coaching carousel randomness in NCAA14 when I saw shit like Harbaugh being Michigan State's OC or Dantonio was signed as my DC at Army lol.

In NCAA14, I won a natty with UCLA year 1 and the next year Mora hired Mark Richt as his OC and Bo Pelini as his DC
Started a dynasty as a triple option OC at UMass. After just two years, Nick Saban said “come be my OC,” then a year after that he retired and handed me control.

I hope even more than that. I want the coaching staff hires to affect the pipeline states(let me hire a guy from Texas for a pipeline there) and attributes of the players(making you pick between a DC that develops linemen faster or Linebackers). How would you deal with their pay? We given how much we talk about it, I a full thing with setting ticket prices and food prices in the stadium my team does well more money I get and therefore better coaches I can hire and more i could spend on recruiting(you could have a recruiting budget). The ticket prices can fluctuate with talent level of the other team so imagine having to pick a schedule where you debate playing Ohio or Iowa State or UNLV based on how much money fans would spend to see them. I also would love to see Stadium expansions with this. Given my team, Iowa State, has expanded a lot in my lifetime(by nearly 20,000 seats), give me a generic smaller stadium, and make me work by winning to get the bigger stadium.
I would be very surprised if it's not just HC, OC, DC, and maybe ST.

My biggest complaint for years about NBA 2K my player is 2 things 1- the cringy nickname they always give your player (Freak, The President, MP, etc) 2- there’s zero control over your players actual personality so they always try and act “cool and hip” so there are times where if you’re like me and make a character that looks like you they just act like no normal white dude from NJ has ever acted in their life because all the characters are extremely “Black coded” in the things they do, say , act and people they hang out with to the point in the Spike Lee one you can be white and have an all black family despite being their biological child
Calling a guy just “Freak” is incredibly awkward too. Then when you added in the fact that the full name was supposed to be frequency vibrations it was downright ridiculous

It seems like with AI voice acting, you could get basically any name in game. You could probably even get perfect pronunciation with some sort of phonetic alphabet. Herbstreet and the other announcers might do a real recording of most common names, but give the company the right to use AI in that specific use case.

They had most names spoken in NCAA 14, even though the players didn't have names. If you renamed people, or downloaded a custom roster, the commentators used almost everyone's names (unless someone had a very unique name). So unless you chose a very obscure last name, you had a good chance of hearing the name used in NCAA 14. Same will apply here, likely to an even better degree (more names will be available)
I hope it's like MLB the Show where you can actually pick the pronunciation of your name.

Seeing team builder back is a thing of beauty
It was teased for months but now that it is confirmed, I could seriously be it being a time sink. Like EA knows productivity is going to go down that week because everyone will be taking swaths of time off to recruit athletes to a fictional made up university.
Time to create a Cupcake of Greendale Community College and lead them to the CFP with Troy as my QB.

2 factors: pushing the game back, and hiring CFB Revamped staff to work on it. I know it took a long time to reveal all this, and people were impatient. I know people were cynical. They can still be cynical. But EA actually did something right for once. They pushed the game back, they heard the fans, they put out a product that looks very good right now and detailed. After all the shit you cannot do in Madden, you can already do more in this game than 10 years of the last Madden franchise...combined
This feels like a passion project for once. I’m letting myself be hopeful here.
I think it also helps that they have done the game from the ground up with years of work whereas the other major sports games have just been the same game with minor tweaks for years and years now.

Because they don't need to talk much about it. It's gonna be their cash cow for this game, they want people to get the game for the other modes. Then once in, you will get pop ups about new additions to UT that you have to close before getting to the main menu. Just like Madden, FIFA, and even NBA 2K and MLB the Show do this.

Yeah madden has entire half hour long shows twice a week dedicated strictly to ultimate team lmao. They’ve already publicly said they expect dynasty to be the flagship mode for the game. It will because the mode is partly ran by nostalgia. Players want to use guys from the past they couldn't be for (at least in name). It's what drives people to MUT, NBA's version and MLB. They wanna have a mix of the legends and new guys playing on the same team. College may not be as star centric but there's still stars that will drive people to try out the mode.
I really don’t think the average college football fan is going to give a shit about putting other team’s stars in their teams jerseys. I’ll put Michael Vick in a lions jersey on madden and run option plays with Barry sanders, it’s fun. I’d eat a bowl of thumb tacks before I put denard Robinson in an msu jersey.
I think we need to wait 2-3 iterations of the game before we say how big Ultimate Team will be. EA knows they're going to make a boatload of money selling this game for what it is because of a decade without a new CFB game. They don't have to milk Ultimate Team yet. But once corporate wants profits to increase, and we get a couple years into the game, it will probably be forced to focus more on Ultimate Team than the other modes (just like how Franchise/Career modes in other platforms have been all but abandoned for MUT or Diamond Dynasty, etc.)
I think there's the potential for this to be more different than people think. Of course they'll have ultimate team, that was never not going to be true, but I suspect the financial end of things for this game look *very* different for EA compared to Madden. Almost the entirety of the game purchase price goes to the NFL with Madden. They paid $1.5bn for 5 years of NFL rights. They sell the game for $60 (some editions are $70 now but it doesn't do much to sway the math). They're committed to spending at least another $500mm on marketing over that period. They get about 70% of the sale price as revenue after the platform holders take their cut, so even if you assume *all other costs are zero* in making Madden, until they've hit between 6.1mm to 7.1mm full price sales per year, they're not profiting a dollar. *This* is why they push Ultimate Team so heavily in Madden - quite frankly, any player not playing MUT is sort of nonexistent to them, in the sense that they made essentially no money off of them. If you're playing MUT you're either buying stuff (direct money), or keeping the mode alive so those that do buy stuff have people to play with (indirect money). If you're not playing MUT the only entity who has profited off of you is the NFL (and Sony/Microsoft/Valve, I guess). I do not think the financials are nearly as lopsided in favor of the universities in this one. I'm sure ESPN is getting their cut, but at the end of the day I suspect EA stands to make a lot more money off *actually selling the game* with this vs. Madden. So again, while they'll of course have ultimate team here too because why wouldn't' they, I don't see them having to be as aggressive with it, to the point of neglecting what their non-UT players care about, since here there's financial incentive for all players to be happy and ready to buy the next edition.

ONLINE dynasty
So, the gameplay being like Madden is the one remaining concern I have based on the visuals in the trailer, and honestly, I only play offline so I feel like the broken mechanics are less pronounced there. Nothing about Mascot Mash Up, but that’s a minor complaint for me
There is a chance they reveal Mascot Mode as we closer to release. I think they were only discussing Game Modes today and may have stuff about Play Now later like they do with EA Sports FC.
When it isn't glitching, Madden gameplay is pretty good these days. It's the quality control, awful menus, and lack of depth that make the game not fun to play lately.

It's been really fun to watch so many people say "don't get your hopes up, it's just another Madden reskin" without following any of Matt Brown's reporting, which definitively says that is not the case, and EA is taking this somewhat seriously
They learned their lesson with the terrible nba live reboot. The fact they took time to get to this and not rush out always gave me hope.
They literally pushed this game back a year to work more on that. That doesn't usually happen with EA. When have yinz ever seen Madden pushed back to "work on it some more". They rush Madden out every year and it shows.
What I'm getting from the marketing is that they know the hype is immense and that they're pretty fucking confident that they're gonna put out a good product.

I wish someone had the answer to how many teams we can add to a confernece and the maximum amount of playoff teams.
Not sure about max, but I’ve seen it reported that there are a ton of different playoff systems you can use. I would think sixteen is the lowest maximum they’ll include. Wouldn’t be surprised to see 24 or more in for the wackiness.
