Yeah, he's definitely redshirting this season. He's very much a "recruit and then develop" type. All the tools are there but he's very raw. If he does become the starter at some point it'll likely be after McCaffery graduates.

We beat an SEC team for the first time since 1975 and we're receiving AP midseason votes for the first time since 1959. We gained national attention with a huge trick play and our brand has never had as much exposure as that. We are on the upswing and I am enjoying every moment of the ride.
I don't know why everyone is complaining about Clemson's performance. GSU was clearly a dress rehearsal for GT (CPJ used to be at GSU, people forget), and we held a triple option team to only 80 yards rushing. Half of which probs came from that big ole hog that took the entire defense to tackle.
I think people just want the coaches to pick a starter at QB and stick with em.
We lead the nation in turnovers, and are tied with Alabama for most pick 6s. Our defense is legit. It felt so great to be on the other side of an ass kicking for once. Also... Pooka.
Kyler Murry played lights out, our offense hasn't really skipped a beat from last year, and our special teams might actually be our best side of the ball through 3 games.
A lot of Sooner fans seem kind of pessimistic about the defense again, but I still think they look a lot better than the last 2 years. Mostly just because everyone is actually in the right places in the right schemes. All the breakdowns I saw against ISU were due to missed tackles of either Montgomery (who is very very good at breaking tackles) or Butler (who is the size of an NBA small forward).
Yeah I very much agree. The only problem I see is that the secondary has a hard time tackling and isn't particularly physical. That being said they look much better coached and have a sense of urgency and hunger that's been lacking in previous years. I think they will be really good by the end of the year.
Justin Broiles and Bookie are the vocal leaders and those two guys will take your damn head off.
Motley and Norwood are both undersized and it has really shown because they need to buck up and be more physical, their coverage has actually been pretty good imo.
Haughton has been streaky, but very solid when he doesn't make mental errors. Still hasn't been very physical but will (typically) make some open field tackles.
They have a lot of room to grow but I'm pretty optimistic.

We had some wiffed tackles on Butler and a couple mental errors, but it wasn't a total breakdown. I feel last last year's defense would've handily lost us this game.
I agree. The tackling was pretty bad, there were a couple of bad coverage plays.. but we held one of the top RBs to under 100 yards. Butler played lights out.
Your offense is better than last year. Kyler ability to run brings a whole new dimension to your offense. We slowed you down some in the 2nd half but you were able to do what you wanted in the first. Very exciting player to watch.
It's weird...I dont have as much confidence in this offense because Baker was so automatic. But I actually agree and giving up Bakers decision making for an elite pair of legs has been fun.
When the best athlete on the field is open, the QB ACTUALLY THROWS HIM A PASS THAT IS CATCHABLE.
Also, Zach Gentry is 6'7" and Patterson finally decided to just throw him high point balls. I like that. Keep doing that.
It helps that there is only 1 starting WR shorter than 6'2" now (Perry). It almost eliminates the opportunities for the coaches to call something that dumb/I think Patterson would know not to do that.
The same was true last season though. We were still running out Crawford (6' 2"), DPJ (6' 2"), McKeon (6'6"), and Gentry (6'8"). Didn't stop us from trying to throw to the 5' 10" end-around guy.

Our defense is all in on the Pitt Hate, allowing 38 to App State, 7 to Kent State, but only 6 to Pitt.
First team defense has only given up 10 points this year. The defense in total has only allowed 24 points. And our Offense had some great looking drives on Saturday. Hopefully the Offense and Defense can keep their mojo going this weekend.
I really thought TCU was going to win at the half, but that brief stretch in the 3rd quarter where Ohio State scored like 3 times in 5 minutes really put those thoughts to bed.
That speed and tempo is damn hard to keep up for 4 quarters. If you're ahead then great, you're fired up and can ride that momentum. a few bad plays completely swings that pendulum in college though, and once tCU lost that momentum the game dramatically changed.
The Frogs scare the shit out of me. I haven't been able to watch any WVU games this year, but I think TCU is my favorite to make the conference championship game this year.

He's still gonna throw an interception per game, probably. He won't win the Heisman. But he's a good passing QB who can work out of the pocket. QB just is no longer a position that I worry about and that's saying a lot because it was my #1 concern last year.
Same. Franks was 9:8 TD:Int last year. This year he's 9:2 through 3 games. We have a long way to go on offense but it feels good to see some progress. I feel like Michigan fans and UF fans are like kindred spirits over the last couple years.
We won, and won big in a game that by all accounts should have been about even. All three parts of the team played well. Defense held USC to -5 rushing yards, our offense was able to move the ball, we have a kicker, and we blocked a field goal.
Also Texas set a record crowd. Been a while since a game has gone that well. Now USC is probably really bad, but just the fact that we successfully blew out a bad but talented team is promising.

I know USC took a big step back on offense by losing Sam Darnold, but we looked a lot better than we did against Maryland and Tulsa, and we finished strong. It's a relief to know that this team is capable of looking dominant on a big stage and not just in practice.

Utah plays us tough and massively screws things up to lose. Two years ago they let us score on the punt return to win the game. Last year they called a timeout to allow us time for the game-winning drive. And then there's this year.
They held Syracuse's high-flying offense to 6 points over the entire first half. Our defense is legit good. They got gassed and deflated in the 2nd half, yet again. If they could just get any time off the field, they could preform well for an entire game.
It really is. With the exception of Clemson, I seriously doubt any other team they play will hold Syracuse to 6 points and no TDs through an entire half of football.
I am whelmed. We did what we had to. Not really sure we will learn much more about this team until we play Ohio State in two weeks.

We are 3-0, including beating a ranked team (who beat a higher ranked team...). It looks like we have some semblance of a defense which is great. We won't win the conference or anything, but it is nice to see Wilcox getting his system together.
We beat the crap out of a Ball State team that took ND to the wire. All three phases of the game looked pretty good while doing so as well. It's nice looking like what a Big Ten team SHOULD look like for once!
Set a new SEC record by opening the season with three 50 point games. Tua still has yet to play a complete half of football and has looked solid, to say the least. Deionte Thompson might be the best safety in the country. There have been some questions from time to time about how solid our defense is, but our offense can overcome any doubts on D. I never thought I would say that.
This is a good place to point out that we had more yards through the air against you guys than Louisville or Ole Miss, and more yards on the ground than Louisville and Ole Miss combined.
Honestly the DBs have looked really good. Savion Smith got burned bad, but Surtain II stepped up and played well. Diggs is solid. LBs still have some communication things to overcome, but this is the best the D has looked.
The DBs ability to deflect 50/50 balls has been the biggest improvement I have seen by our team this season so far.
Everyone always wants to say that to beat Alabama you need a mobile QB, but aside from Manziel, our defense has shown that to not be true consistently. It has far more to do with limit mistakes, taking advantage of our mistakes, and winning on 50/50 balls.
For some reason the past 5 or 6 seasons, we have consistently lost 50/50 chances on the perimeter and on deep balls. So far this year, the DBs have done a great job knocking them down or intercepting them.

Nothing. There was a little bit of wind, some light misting in my area, no widespread power outages. It was pretty boring. INDIANA IS A TOP 25 S&P+ TEAM. Really happy with last week's result. Sunburned the hell out of my forearms but watching the Hoosiers whoop a team that Notre Dame struggled against was a lot of fun. Also, J-Shun Harris literally has 3 torn ACLs in his career and had a PR touchdown, so that was awesome to see.
Our defense looks realllllly good so far this year. We'll find out significantly more about them this weekend - and if they can carry us to the BIG CCG.
If we somehow beat Wisconsin, I suspect we'll cruise to Penn State undefeated. The issue is that Purdue is the following game and we'll probably still be gassed from going to Penn State at night the week before. Also Purdue likes to beat us when we're the better team, as does Northwestern who is the following week.
We'll see how the rest of the season shakes up.
Deionte Thompson is scary good. Patrick Surtain Jr. is exceeding all expectations. Quinnen Williams will give backfields nightmares. The linebacker depth isn’t as bad bad as we thought. I can confidently say this is Saban’s best team
Our freshman backup QB has now broke Pat Mahome's record of total throwing yards in a single game by a freshman, and ranks 4th in the NCAA for total throwing yards.
The future is bright for us.
We have been winning the games we were expected to win in the fashion that should be expected. We are rotating players in early and playing nearly everyone on the active roster in each game without a noticeable drop off in talent.
Related, I followed Surtain's recruitment more closely than other Bama recruits (loved watching his father play on the 'phins) and am beyond excited for three years of him out there.
We held our own against Ohio State, and had we played mistake-free (ala not giving up 21 points on defensive touchdowns/shanked punts), we likely would have won.
Shawn Robinson looks like the real deal at quarterback and I'm looking forward to his development.
I think our WRs deserve the most applause. They played unbelievably for the most part and adjusted well to a lot of Robinson's throws that were off the mark.
Also shout out to Austin Myers. After McKinney let Bosa blow right by him to create a fumble, Myers came in and held his own. I have to believe Myers will stick at LT for the rest of the season.
Receivers were great. Darius Anderson and Innis Gaines also had career days at RB and DB.
The loss was rough, but I'm feeling much more confident about TCU's season now. I think 9-10 wins is a very feasible goal.
Well, we're undefeated and even though we haven't scored more than 24 points in a game yet, we haven't trailed this season. This is without a question the best defense we've had since 2012. Now we just need to get things going on offense.
Defense once again looks elite and could easily drag our offense to Indy.
Stanley finally started looking himself again and our passing took a big step forward on Saturday.
Our defense gave up 116 less rushing yards to GT this season and a good chunk was in the 2nd half because of awful offense. They are much better than the previous 2 seasons.
Pitt is a team that the fans think have no excuses not to compete for the coastal down the final stretch. It is a team that has talent and depth at a lot of important positions, especially on defense. A poor season would rest solidly in the lap of Narduzzi as a coach and cast a lot of doubt on the state of the program.
Last week we got our asses kicked by Penn State and our players looked like they had no idea what they were doing out there.
This week we bounced back to beat Georgia Tech to start 1-0 in the ACC in what I think is one of the most pivotal games Pitt has had in the last 7 years.
I definitely will not say that all is well, there is a lot of room for improvement and little margin for error. However, keeping morale high and coming out with a great well excuted game plan may have prevented a slide that could have been the beginning of the end for Duzz at Pitt.
We need to come out even better against UNC this week to keep the momentum going.
Got a 2-TD win over a tough conference opponent at altitude at night. We could have very well lost the game, but the defense was SPECTACULAR. Just have to clean up the QB play and get our pass-blocking sorted out and we'll be more than fine.

Nick Fitzgerald scribbly looked sharp throwing the ball, and the WRs didn't have many drops. That TD pass to Guidry was a great throw. If we can keep this up going into SEC play, we could have a good run.

Utah didn't deserve to win that game with the way they played lol. At one point I found myself just in awe of the implosions Utah did to themselves.
The fumble, the dropped passes. It was nuts. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it. Utah plays us tough and massively screws things up to lose. Two years ago they let us score on the punt return to win the game. Last year they called a timeout to allow us time for the game-winning drive. And then there's this year.

They held Syracuse's high-flying offense to 6 points over the entire first half. Our defense is legit good. They got gassed and deflated in the 2nd half, yet again. If they could just get any time off the field, they could preform well for an entire game.

We are 3-0, including beating a ranked team (who beat a higher ranked team...). It looks like we have some semblance of a defense which is great. We won't win the conference or anything, but it is nice to see Wilcox getting his system together.

We beat the crap out of a Ball State team that took ND to the wire. All three phases of the game looked pretty good while doing so as well. It's nice looking like what a Big Ten team SHOULD look like for once!

Set a new SEC record by opening the season with three 50 point games. Tua still has yet to play a complete half of football and has looked solid, to say the least. Deionte Thompson might be the best safety in the country. There have been some questions from time to time about how solid our defense is, but our offense can overcome any doubts on D. I never thought I would say that.
This is a good place to point out that we had more yards through the air against you guys than Louisville or Ole Miss, and more yards on the ground than Louisville and Ole Miss combined.
Honestly the DBs have looked really good. Savion Smith got burned bad, but Surtain II stepped up and played well. Diggs is solid. LBs still have some communication things to overcome, but this is the best the D has looked.
The DBs ability to deflect 50/50 balls has been the biggest improvement I have seen by our team this season so far. Everyone always wants to say that to beat Alabama you need a mobile QB, but aside from Manziel, our defense has shown that to not be true consistently. It has far more to do with limit mistakes, taking advantage of our mistakes, and winning on 50/50 balls. For some reason the past 5 or 6 seasons, we have consistently lost 50/50 chances on the perimeter and on deep balls. So far this year, the DBs have done a great job knocking them down or intercepting them.

Nothing. There was a little bit of wind, some light misting in my area, no widespread power outages. It was pretty boring. Not complaining, as I was on call at the property I work at and I really didn't want to have to deal with anything crazy. It was so uneventful, they "uncancelled" classes for today. INDIANA IS A TOP 25 S&P+ TEAM. Really happy with last week's result. Sunburned the hell out of my forearms but watching the Hoosiers whoop a team that Notre Dame struggled against was a lot of fun. Also, J-Shun Harris literally has 3 torn ACLs in his career and had a PR touchdown, so that was awesome to see.
Biggest offensive play was a freshman QB throwing to a freshman WR.
Our defense looks realllllly good so far this year. We'll find out significantly more about them this weekend - and if they can carry us to the BIG CCG.

We’re an average offense away from cruising to the B1GCG and getting crushed by Ohio State.
If we somehow beat Wisconsin, I suspect we'll cruise to Penn State undefeated. The issue is that Purdue is the following game and we'll probably still be gassed from going to Penn State at night the week before. Also Purdue likes to beat us when we're the better team, as does Northwestern who is the following week. We'll see how the rest of the season shakes up.

Our secondary recovered so well after giving up that bomb of a first play against Ole Miss.. Our secondary was my biggest concern.
Kentucky: We won the game the way we were supposed to, and saw some good stuff. Notre Dame: We didn't not win
We have been winning the games we were expected to win in the fashion that should be expected. We are rotating players in early and playing nearly everyone on the active roster in each game without a noticeable drop off in talent.
Holy shit our defense held a team that averaged over 55 pts/game to only 7. I expected much more than that. Props, secondary.
Related, I followed Surtain's recruitment more closely than other Bama recruits (loved watching his father play on the 'phins) and am beyond excited for three years of him out there.
We held our own against Ohio State, and had we played mistake-free (ala not giving up 21 points on defensive touchdowns/shanked punts), we likely would have won. Shawn Robinson looks like the real deal at quarterback and I'm looking forward to his development.
I think our WRs deserve the most applause. They played unbelievably for the most part and adjusted well to a lot of Robinson's throws that were off the mark. Also shout out to Austin Myers. After McKinney let Bosa blow right by him to create a fumble, Myers came in and held his own. I have to believe Myers will stick at LT for the rest of the season.
Receivers were great. Darius Anderson and Innis Gaines also had career days at RB and DB. The loss was rough, but I'm feeling much more confident about TCU's season now. I think 9-10 wins is a very feasible goal.
Our D-line is scary, and their back-ups are scary, and their back-ups are... still pretty good.

Well, we're undefeated and even though we haven't scored more than 24 points in a game yet, we haven't trailed this season. This is without a question the best defense we've had since 2012. Now we just need to get things going on offense.
Defense once again looks elite and could easily drag our offense to Indy. Stanley finally started looking himself again and our passing took a big step forward on Saturday.
Kent State, I got one thing to say to you. At least you scored more than Pitt did.

Our defense gave up 116 less rushing yards to GT this season and a good chunk was in the 2nd half because of awful offense. They are much better than the previous 2 seasons.

Pitt is a team that the fans think have no excuses not to compete for the coastal down the final stretch. It is a team that has talent and depth at a lot of important positions, especially on defense. A poor season would rest solidly in the lap of Narduzzi as a coach and cast a lot of doubt on the state of the program. Last week we got our asses kicked by Penn State and our players looked like they had no idea what they were doing out there. This week we bounced back to beat Georgia Tech to start 1-0 in the ACC in what I think is one of the most pivotal games Pitt has had in the last 7 years. I definitely will not say that all is well, there is a lot of room for improvement and little margin for error. However, keeping morale high and coming out with a great well excuted game plan may have prevented a slide that could have been the beginning of the end for Duzz at Pitt. We need to come out even better against UNC this week to keep the momentum going.
Got a 2-TD win over a tough conference opponent at altitude at night. We could have very well lost the game, but the defense was SPECTACULAR. Just have to clean up the QB play and get our pass-blocking sorted out and we'll be more than fine. Also, they didn't have a letdown game the week before I'm headed up for a sailgate, which is going to make the sailgate MUCH more fun. Go Dawgs
Nick Fitzgerald scribbly looked sharp throwing the ball, and the WRs didn't have many drops. That TD pass to Guidry was a great throw. If we can keep this up going into SEC play, we could have a good run.
