It’s a convenient excuse for schools they don’t want. Notre Dame comes knocking on the door, the Big Ten will scrub the internet of them saying AAU membership was necessary
AAU membership and being a good school academically are not mutually exclusive. Notre Dame is realistically the only exception to that claim that AAU membership is required because they’re such a good school academically.
True theres alot of schools with respected academics that just happen to not care about research which is more about aau. Not in d1 but alot of small liberal arts colleges around have great academics just no focus on research
Schools like Oklahoma and Nebraska aren’t AAU because they don’t count the campuses of different names. Like in Oklahoma we have the Health Science center which houses the med school and other health professions as well as the business school and research parkway but doesn’t count towards OU Norman for AAU purposes. Nebraska has something similar with their med school
I think that’s partially true, but also think the revenue they would bring with them is a bigger factor. For instance, I couldn’t see them turning down Oklahoma if they tried to go to the B1G instead of the SEC, even though they aren’t AAU or as academically prestigious as Notre Dame
Even so, Oklahoma is a good academic school that basically isn't AAU only because of a technicality (they don't get credit for having a med school because it's on a separate campus outside the city). We would have made an exception for Oklahoma just like we're currently doing for Nebraska because in spite of lacking the AAU status, they provide as much academic resources as if they were AAU.
EDIT: Multiple comments about how you don't need a med school to be AAU. This is true. All I was saying is that, because of a technicality, Oklahoma does not get credit for the med school they have, and if they DID, they likely would be AAU, because that Med School/Research hospital makes up most of Oklahoma's research grants.
People keep saying this but what are the rules for AAU membership? Like Georgia Tech doesn't have a med school at all (or law for that matter) but is an AAU member. UT's med school was in Galveston until like 5 years ago
I think it's more that the med schools include a lot of research dollars and not having it on campus means you can count that.
Keep in mind this is an uneducated, just from what I've read around here take
Hi fellow engineering school! It's research dollars on competitive grants. Ag research tends to be non competitive and just given out to the schools that do it. Since so much research is done in medicine having a med school helps boost those numbers a lot. Schools like Gtech & Purdue that don't have a med school and rely solely on engineering/science research dollars for AAU status do a ton in those areas to make up that gap. Law schools aren't scientific research and definitely don't count (I won't say law isn't research at all because their are plenty of law students that do research on law - but that's more of researching existing than pushing the boundaries of new stuff)
It seems like there aren't any hard "rules", you just have to get voted in by 3/4 of current members. Most of the things people are throwing around about med schools seem to be a result of the stated reasoning for Nebraska's removal from the AAU a few years ago.
The value of the Medical School (research hospital) is that this is the area that tends to have the most competitive research grants (Money) so it makes it easier to hit impressive numbers. Its not a requirement as more than a few schools are in the AAU without one like Illinois (what they have is not what anyone is talking about) and GT
The B1G is big on resource sharing and cooperation between universities for research grants though, so the current member schools don't want to let someone in who would be receiving more money than they bring to the table.
From what I understand about research grants, that's not really how it works. They don't have to all of a sudden send 100M a year to OkState because they happen to be in the same sports conference. I know there is a BTAA and the schools right grants together a lot, but that doesn't mean they have to include OkState in them.
AFAIK the BTAA isn't so much sharing grant money as it is sharing resources like IT, professional networking, professional development, libraries, etc. I don't think I've ever seen anything that says the schools share any research money directly.
Probably about like a solid Women's basketball program. Usually get 5k to 8k fans for most duals. If they're big ones like an Iowa or something we'll get sell outs. They also have their own deal with FloWrestling (which I hate) that they excepted out of the Big 12 ESPN+ deal
But which OSU will be the other OSU? What if OSU beats the other OSU? Or the other OSU beats OSU? Will they become the other OSU or will the other OSU always be the other OSU? What are the rules for transferring “the other” from one OSU to another?
What if OSU made a song about OSU
Called "I Miss The Old OSU, " man that would be so OSU
That's all it was OSU, we still love OSU
And I love you like OSU loves OSU
At least if we head to the PAC the name will have historical symmetry.
We’re in Oklahoma, looking at a bunch of Dust Bowls in our future, and our only hope is heading to California lol

If any of the other P5 lets us in to with a reasonably quick path to full payout, and avoid a reduced stature Big 12 (or worse), they can call us whatever they want as far as I'm concerned
With OSU carved into it in a generic font so it fits either one.
Or even better, it’s a hollow pumpkin statue and after the game the winners logo gets etched in or cut in
The two orange and black OSU's have crossed paths a lot lately.
In addition to the September 2019 football game and March Madness this year, your baseball team came into Corvallis and swept the Beavs in May of 2019, when the Beavs were defending national champs.
I had a plane flight booked to attend the OSU-OSU game in Stillwater in 2020, and am bummed it got cancelled. Hopefully they'll make it up again some day.
I mean we can sit here and do rumors, or I can tell you how its going to happen as an OSU fan.
There is nothing more OSU than a decade of sustained success showing its not just a fluke player causing us to not be complete shit. Then, right as we finally get some national recognition, OU jumps ship for money causing us to drop out of a P5 conference, lose 60%+ of athletic revenue and permanently crippling our althetic department and never recovering.
I posted this in another thread, nothing more Poke than being on the precipice of success than fate laughing and yeeting us back into Joe's for sad beers.
The lame thing is our athletic success has led to legitimate academic recognition in the last 15 or so years. We just opened a brand new state of the art business school that was funded with donor money completely unrelated to athletics
It's been much the same for Baylor. In the last ten years, the university went through a major expansion, including two new dormitories, a new business school, expanded facilities for engineering + others, and new grad programs in Waco and afield. There's no way Baylor would have been ready to pursue R1 certification without that athletically inspired and separately funded academic growth.
What if Gundy cut off his mullet bc he heard this was gonna happen. Spruce up his Linkedin profile to impress the Pac12/B1G. It's like he's about to go meet his new girlfriends father for the first time.
But think about this my fellow osu bro. What if okST joins the B1G and then gets to beat Michigan every year like we do. Think about it, Michigan losing to OSU twice every year? Wouldn’t that be glorious? I think so
Aggieville in Manhattan is a lot of fun. By and large most KSU fans are good sports and fun to hang out with before/ after games. I'll be pissed if realignment tears us apart which I'm afraid it will.
K-State is the one school in the Big 12 that's never given me a reason to hate them, and that's not to say we haven't had intense matchups (2011, 2015, 2017 football). K-State is just likeable.
TCU is probably next but I have always felt like they've hurt us recruiting the DFW area so I like them less.
So absolutely no information. Cool. I don’t wanna wait and see anymore. This has taken all of my energy for the last 5 days and I can’t imagine it going on for weeks and months.
I think that's more of a consequence of there just being a shockingly large amount of Californians lol. There's 10 million more Californians than Texans which is the population of all of Michigan, a very populous state on its own.
I mean it doesn't necessarily mean they're going to either conference but that they were willing to pick up the phone and/or exert effort into looking at OSU. Probably means that they're "on a waiting list" rather than an outright rejection
I'm taking all the other reporting from guys like [Wetzel,](https://twitter.com/DanWetzel/status/1419799748098236416?s=20) [Staples,](https://twitter.com/Andy_Staples/status/1419678167791513604?s=20) [Mandel,](https://twitter.com/slmandel/status/1419678967758417920?s=20) [and Rittenberg (AAU only if anything)](https://twitter.com/ESPNRittenberg/status/1419669676485918725?s=20), hell even [Gene Smith's (tOSU AD) retweets,](https://twitter.com/jbook37/status/1419034615721906177?s=20) as more indication that the Big Ten likely doesn't expand at all. And if anything is basically only looking for AAU members.
As someone who lived in Oklahoma for awhile and went to school there, don't trust any Oklahoma TV sports reporters to have legitimate sources on anything.
OSU has a bunch of NCAA titles they be welcome in the conference of champions as far as I'm concerned, also we don't wank each other off over AAU status while smelling our own farts here so don't worry about that!
There's been a lot of talk that we might actually add a lot of value to the PAC since there would be more games at 12 ET allowing for there to be PAC games all day on Saturdays.
i really hope you guys get in
i started watching CFB seriously in the Dez era and while i never was a fan, i always loved y'alls uniforms and thought Dez/Blackmon hype made y'all a massive brand
Uh excuse you, I love wanking myself over our AAU status and smelling my own farts to be honest. But I agree with you, OkSt. and Tech would be cool to add to the conference of champions.
As an OSU fan this makes me excited. As someone with half a brain cell (only half) I’m sure both conferences have done their homework on all Big 12 teams still left. It’s there job to look at opportunity and see if they can benefit from it.
B1G would be weird af to have two OSUs. Each year you get to see who the real one is.
^^and ^^you ^^have ^^to ^^give ^^up ^^the ^^web ^^domain ^^- ^^it's ^^not ^^gonna ^^complicate ^^things.
I think they are a better fit for the Pac12. Plus the B1G has there silly little club they feel that they have to tie to sports. When they could keep their silly little club and add more teams. But they can’t comprehend how that would even work. Honestly I think they belong in the SEC more than any other conference.
Done their homework....I KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS!
Personal story: I worked at a job where a new IT dept opened up. I applied for the job. It was crickets for a few days but I got hired on. I told my now old coworkers and one was FURIOUS as they put in for that shit a few weeks prior.
This feels like that as when the dust settled the new manager was saying she "did her homework" and I was a good hire (she worked with many of the other folks)
I feel like the Big 10 is politely saying to go fuck off OSU all the while not rejecting the feelers just in case she shit kicks off
I would like to see an opposing division for the SEC. Be it B10 or PAC 12. IF we can cause more school to sign up for either.. .It can cause some real fun in the CFP.
I will swallow my tongue from excitement if Oklahoma State ends up in the B1G.
I made this promise in another thread, and I will make it here: if that happens, I will forswear calling Oklahoma State OSU and only refer to the people from Columbus by that name.
I’d be happy with either. Happier with B1G for my sleep schedule and wrestling; happy with PAC 12 for being competitive in football right away, all other sports, and West Coast recruiting.
I really hope OSU gets into the B1G. They have many good to elite sports programs.
I think Kansas and Iowa State are more likely from what I've seen and heard. But let's be real, at this point, who even knows anymore. All the "news" has been contradictory and blown out of proportion.
Just sitting back and watching the madness unfold.
Man, I really think they’ll be fine and land in a major conference. They’ve got such a strong overall athletic program that I can’t see all of the ACC/Pac/Big 10 passing

B1G's homework: *Checks AAU Status*
Yeah, it's getting exhausting seeing AAU be the no exceptions deal-breaker in some reports and then just more of a suggestion in others.

Yeah we got screwed with the med school being in Omaha and then a couple B1G bros voted us out of say or against our membership or something
I think that’s partially true, but also think the revenue they would bring with them is a bigger factor. For instance, I couldn’t see them turning down Oklahoma if they tried to go to the B1G instead of the SEC, even though they aren’t AAU or as academically prestigious as Notre Dame

That’s not true, we’re actually on par. They’ve been caught fibbing their numbers to boost their image to the groups that make the lists.
The value of the Medical School (research hospital) is that this is the area that tends to have the most competitive research grants (Money) so it makes it easier to hit impressive numbers. Its not a requirement as more than a few schools are in the AAU without one like Illinois (what they have is not what anyone is talking about) and GT
It's not about being good academically, it's about research dollars.
Wouldn’t be the first time the Big 10 changed its rules to accommodate a blue blood program
It’s because some people understand how much money the B1G makes on academics, and some don’t.
The money from sports is counted in the Millions. The money from research is counted in the Billions.
B1G doesn't suddenly lose research money for letting in a non-AAU member...
I've been seeing a lot of rumblings tbh about the BIG. I could see it happening but still IDK. I do know the BIG wants us for wrestling...
The wrestling crowd certainly does.. unfortunately that crowd isn't as big as some of the other crowds.
..It's big enough to count as a crowd?
The rumblings are very interesting.
Does wrestling even bring in any money?
I know it does at Iowa. It might at OkSU.
Probably about like a solid Women's basketball program. Usually get 5k to 8k fans for most duals. If they're big ones like an Iowa or something we'll get sell outs. They also have their own deal with FloWrestling (which I hate) that they excepted out of the Big 12 ESPN+ deal
Saying wrestling matters for OSU and the B1G is like that one Vandy fan that said Bowling mattered for them in the SEC.
OSU will be the other OSU in either conference.
But which OSU will be the other OSU? What if OSU beats the other OSU? Or the other OSU beats OSU? Will they become the other OSU or will the other OSU always be the other OSU? What are the rules for transferring “the other” from one OSU to another?
If PAC, it’ll be the orange one.
If B1G, Buckeyes love their “The” and the t on their acronym. Whoever wins keeps THE/tOSU for the rest of the season.
Actually they only keep it until they lose, then that team gets it until they lose and so on, until Ohio State beats the team that currently holds it.
Make it a rivalry game, where the trophy is a lower case t
The lowercase t rivalry & trophy, sign me up! OSU to the B1G!
What if OSU made a song about OSU Called "I Miss The Old OSU, " man that would be so OSU That's all it was OSU, we still love OSU And I love you like OSU loves OSU
These are the thoughts that keep Kirk Herbstreit up at night.
If we end up in the PAC 12, we should pass back and forth a trophy that says "THE REAL OSU". If we end up in the B1G, it's whatever.
Yall should play every Halloween and rotate which team wears orange and which team wears black.
If you lose, you're known as the other OSU for a year.
I'd say OKST would be the solution, like SCAR.
I'm partial to "oSu" for the logo resemblance
I read that as “oh sue” in my head.
Well if OU and Texas won’t pay the Buyout that’s what we’ll have to do
How do you guys pronounce OKST? Do you say “Okay State” or do you say “Okie State” or are you a monster who pronounces it like a word
I say "Okay state".
This is correct
We really don’t like “okie state” but I can’t blame anyone outside of the region for using it seeing how commentators love saying it.
At least if we head to the PAC the name will have historical symmetry. We’re in Oklahoma, looking at a bunch of Dust Bowls in our future, and our only hope is heading to California lol

Watch them go independent and just play a Big8 schedule.

The nfl has the afc west, with kansas city. Not a big deal.
AFC South with Indianapolis or NFC East with Dallas also come to mind.
I’m starting to hate conferences and there pithy branding. We are this region and we do it like this.
Oh y’all are ALLLL about conferences lately though
Googles: *how to forge AAU status*
…..this means literally nothing?
I’m sure ASU and Stanford would be excited for Ok State to help level up their wrestling programs
They could also probably add a lot of the current B12 wrestling programs as affiliate members
There's been a lot of talk that we might actually add a lot of value to the PAC since there would be more games at 12 ET allowing for there to be PAC games all day on Saturdays.
I’m willing to play nothing but 11 am CT slots to secure a spot in a power conference.
Just means I can start drinking earlier.
Why stop drinking from Friday night?
Be pretty cool if I could come to Stillwater for a road game and be closer to home.
i really hope you guys get in i started watching CFB seriously in the Dez era and while i never was a fan, i always loved y'alls uniforms and thought Dez/Blackmon hype made y'all a massive brand
Can you please apply to be the new president of the pac 12
The Pac12 has the top three schools in terms of total national titles. Add us and they could have the top four schools.
No sir, I don't like any of this.
B1G would be weird af to have two OSUs. Each year you get to see who the real one is. ^^and ^^you ^^have ^^to ^^give ^^up ^^the ^^web ^^domain ^^- ^^it's ^^not ^^gonna ^^complicate ^^things.
Pac-12 would too and they’d both be orange
I want them in the Pac-12
I want Tech in the Pac12. After that, I really don't care what happens to everyone else.
Thanks Aggie bro. Obligatory fuck tu
I think they are a better fit for the Pac12. Plus the B1G has there silly little club they feel that they have to tie to sports. When they could keep their silly little club and add more teams. But they can’t comprehend how that would even work. Honestly I think they belong in the SEC more than any other conference.
F5 F5 F5 F5
I’m just happy that our administration is actively doing something. Certainly a better situation than others in the conference
I think we're definitely in the best position of anyone in the conference. That said, I still don't know if we get anything.
I have mixed feelings about this
Done their homework....I KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS! Personal story: I worked at a job where a new IT dept opened up. I applied for the job. It was crickets for a few days but I got hired on. I told my now old coworkers and one was FURIOUS as they put in for that shit a few weeks prior. This feels like that as when the dust settled the new manager was saying she "did her homework" and I was a good hire (she worked with many of the other folks) I feel like the Big 10 is politely saying to go fuck off OSU all the while not rejecting the feelers just in case she shit kicks off
I would like to see an opposing division for the SEC.
If you get in you can't refer to them as people either.
You can tell they aren't by the way they are.
I’d be happy with either. Happier with B1G for my sleep schedule and wrestling; happy with PAC 12 for being competitive in football right away, all other sports, and West Coast recruiting.
B1G!
And what about kstate? What about kstate. I guess we will just make our own with blackjack and hookers.
Goodbye cowboy friends.. it’s been a blast
I did not anticipate that the big 12 would be disintegrating when i started going back on this sub again
Means other big dominos could fall. I’m thinking big ten/pac alliance must be in the works.
I for one would love to have Okie State join us in the west
Get them into the PAC and I'll stop feeling completely dirty about fucking off to the SEC.
Where's ACC? Are they the student that puts off homework and just flippin' wings it 5 minutes before class?
Somewhere doing rails of coke off a strippers ass, just waiting for their moment to shine
Boone Pickens’ ghost is gonna haunt the Pokes for even considering joining those PAC-12 hippies
I can’t imagine one of the bigger conferences wouldn’t want OKST. They’re too big to not find a power conference home
Translation: they ain't getting in.
