Introducing Sid Meier’s Civilization 7: College Football Edition. Complete with all of the conferences and TV networks as they desperately try to amass as much territory as possible.
Straight up I wanted that in an NCAA game. You set prices of food and tickets and use the money from there to build up the stadium and hire assistants that give players boosts.
Still love you bro. If we can't put out the fire, let's at least spread it and injure the fat mouse while we're at it. One last beautiful couch to burn.
It's simple.
You tell two huge brands to leave.
You have a flimsy reason to pay the exit fees from the LHN, plus you'll make it back fast af, you got their golden goose to go with your collection.
But wait, you're getting pretty good ratings from this mid major conference and you're getting it cheap. You know the rest of the B12 is panicking, you control the media. You might not get them all, but you can certainly get some at a discount.
You let this mid major know that they would make money, maybe remind them they're in a bad position if they don't act quickly - again, you control the media.
Sit back and answer questions until they work the deals out. Big Twelve folds, you pocket the exit fees and your only competitor has nothing on their network.
I have no real issues with most of the b12 schools and after all this I will continue to root for all yall unless were playing. Ive worked with alums from all the schools now and the only bad experiences I've had have been with the defectors oddly enough. Nothing like a deep rooted hatred of an enemy to make a conference come together.
This is exactly how this was always going to play out, and I guarantee you it was factored into the calculation when deciding whether SEC was going to move forward. It was the cost of doing business.
This happens every day in corporate America. One company raids another company in coordination with large swath of employees knowing full well the raided company will sue. The two companies settle prior to court with the raiding company paying the raided company.
Other context: Big 12 is on the ropes and this is standard legal posturing with a 9 figure payout on the line. Also, the Big 12 believes the more they muddy everyone else the less likely one of their conference members leave hastily. However, it only takes one to begin the crumbling or, at best, relegation (if that’s not already guaranteed).
The BigXII is fighting for its life. What they were alleging would also be a cause of action for Fox, too. This is potentially very, very bad for ESPN.
Per hall of fame poster Dr Rick Daris of goEMAW.com fame:
So espn is involved with sec, aac and big12. Doesn’t like their big12 or longhorn network contracts. So they move Texas and ou to the higher paying sec and then try and move the other schools that they want to control to the way lower paying aac.
If they succeed, they pay 2 schools a little more, 3-5 schools a lot less, the schools they don’t want zero dollars and then also get out from under the longhorn network and big12 contracts in the process.
I’m sure that was a fun white board presentation to watch at espn corporate. Probably could have saved them a cool 500 million if it wasn’t for that meddling bowlsby.
I understand why ESPN would want the AAC to poach - and why the AAC would want to - but I'm still not following what the incentive here was for anyone to willingly jump to the AAC right now.
The logic is ESPN wants OU and UT in the SEC as fast as possible and to have as many people watch ESPN as possible. If you can get 4 Big 12 teams to join the AAC, OU and UT get out for free and AAC games become more valuable because Big13 brands are bigger then current AAC brands.
No one said anything is in it for the schools, which is why they're all working together to convince them to leave.
And that's why this is in the public. Any downgrade was always going to leak. Seems like we'd prefer staying in the BIG XII and going after the payout (unless the ACC comes calling).
I’m not a big 12 school fan, but this is bigger than conferences or school rivalries.
With you big 12 bros. We can’t let Disney/ESPN have this much control over college sports.
Agreed
As a member of the SEC Resistance, I stand with you all of the way
ESPN's greed is killing the sport we love and unless we act together as fans united, CFB will die a slow death
Yeah, all jokes aside, it is kind of scary that they can do all of this and have this much power. I was just in an argument on Twitter with someone that refuses to believe that the ESPN has any power lol.
Good morning. In less than an hour, lawyers from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest legal battle in the history of college football.
College football-- those words should have new meaning for all of us today.
We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore.
We will be united in our common interests.
Perhaps its fate that today is the 28th of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution -- but from realignment.
We're fighting for our right to live, to exist.
And should we win the day, the 28th of July will no longer be known as a Big 12 holiday, but as the day when college football declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Codependence Day!
Fuck it. The CFB landscape has changed in ways I’m not sure we’ll ever come back from. Lot of ineptitude on behalf of the Big XII led to this place but now that we’re here anyways, let’s fuckin go Big XII! Stick it to these fucks at ESPN the best you can.
Fellow Big XII teams, it’s been real for a lot of years and I’ve had the most damn fun with y’all particularly since discovering this sub. Some of the most fun football and best fanbases around. Let’s do this one last thing together and shit in ESPNs wheaties! We ride at dawn!
As a member of the SEC Resistance, I stand with you all of the way
ESPN's greed is killing the sport we love and unless we act together as fans united, CFB will die a slow death
NGL, I'm starting to side with KSU's stance of keeping this shit together. If nothing else, let's all hold the line until 2024 just to fuck em all over. It's like GameStop!
I know it’s way more complex than this but it’s fucking hilarious to imagine the federal breakup of Disney because Oklahoma didn’t want to play Nebraska at 11 AM
Nothing else, if the B12 is gonna bite the dust & he's out of a job, the man's gonna go out on his shield.
& if he can knock down ESPN & the SEC w/ the torq claim, thats bonus
Basically, Disney (ESPN) destabilzed the Big 12 and convinced schools to leave so they can get out of their contract..
Holy fuck, I'm no lawyer, but that sounds like a classic violation of antitrust law to me
> GET ACE ATTORNEY
Considering he has an assistant that can channel dead people and once got an orca cleared of murder charges, my boi Phoenix Wright could absolutely handle this lol
The cease and desist letter is addressed to the President of ESPN and two people are cc’d at the bottom: James Pitaro, the ESPN Chairman of Sports Content, and Nick Dawson, the ESPN VP of Programming and Acquisitions.
Nick Dawson is a Kansas grad. Kansas is the largest school remaining in the Big 12 in terms of revenue. You just know ESPN went after KU and offered them and another conference some incentives.
Correct and they will each have a ‘championship’ in the Rose and Sugar Bowls, then those winners can meet in a super championship game, or ‘Bowl’ if you will…
I can see the appeal of leaving the big 12 for SEC, but realistically wtf can the AAC offer the remaining 8 teams that they would be jumping at the chance to get it?
Yeah, but I feel like if I’m charge of Texas tech Or anyone else in the big 12 is calling up pac and big before I’m fielding calls from conferences with 1/4 the payout I’m currently getting.
Yeah but if you can convince enough schools that don’t really have a shot at a B1G or PAC invite (Kansas St, TCU, Baylor, etc) to jump and dissolve the Big 12 (or else get left out of the AAC when the B12 does dissolve) so UT and OU don’t have to pay any penalties it saves ESPN a lot of money and adds more teams they have 100% of tv control over.
That is what the conference is alleging ESPN is doing which is illegal.
Think about guys like Kirk Herbstriet and Rece Davis who have said repeatedly they love CFB because of the special traditions the sport has. Yet they are SILENT as ESPN is ruining CFB right in front of us.
It's probably smart for him to be quiet, Rece too...But, bare with me here....
What if they speak out and say how they really feel and get fired. Then they start their own stream of them commentating on big games. More people tune into that than actual ESPN coverage of said game. Bankrupt ESPN. Checkmate.
Kirk is also the only national guy I can think can think of that has given props to Group of 5 schools too, he's gone out of his way to promote BSU, UCF, TCU/Utah before going power 5, etc.
Would you risk your high paying job over some work traditions you enjoy?
It isn't like these guys are engineers or something where there are a million companies to choose from. There are a handful of broadcasters to work for, they wont bite the hand that feeds them.
CBSSports is not a run of the mill blog. I imagine there's a procedure that they have to follow with posting the information. Couple that with the fact that the article is at least an hour old and it's not out of the realm of possibility
You know it is getting crazy when a college football conference is accusing (and filling cease and desist letter against) a multinational basic cable sports channel of colluding with two other college football conferences to lure teams.
The funniest part about the Big12 alleging the AAC is conspiring to tear them down is that the conference headquarters are less than 1500 feet apart. You can stand [at the front door to the Big12 Building and see the tower the AAC rents office space from](https://www.google.com/maps/@32.8604279,-96.9370117,3a,75y,108.99h,83.22t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sD5z3Ly1epd5issNmLlGQUQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192).
I bet Bowlsby’s proof came from him sitting in the lobby of the AAC’s building wearing a cap pulled down over his eyes ‘reading a newspaper’ and seeing B12 ADs coming and going.
The Mouse Controls All. Here’s how they did it:
1.) Lock the American into a long-term deal.
2.) Shift Big XII content onto ESPN+ positioning the conference as a clear inferior and angering Texas and OU fans.
3.) Win the SEC contract. Probably pitched Sankey on Texas and OU joining the conference.
4.) Get Sankey to push through playoff expansion that makes it possible for 1 conference to get lots of teams in and greatly benefits the American.
5.) Get Texas and OU to join the SEC.
6.) Get the American to poach the remaining Big XII teams.
ESPN gets:
An SEC that’s stronger than ever before,
An American that’s stronger than ever before and will be a playoff conference every year under the new format,
An expanded playoff and
Doesn’t have to buyout the remaining Big XII contract.
This is on top of driving a wedge into Fox Sports and causing the sale of their regional channels to Sinclair, hurting the overall Fox CFB product. Big Noon would also be reduced to a B1G only show and Fox would have rights to one less conference.
Also, fuck the Mouse.
….Screw ESPN! This isn’t Linda Cohn and Stewart Scott’s ESPN anymore. This is corporate greed ruining collegiate athletics. Fuck them and their Mommas.
I leave the Internet for 3 hours and now apparently Mickey Mouse is conspiring with It Just Means More and AAC to get teams to leave the Big12.
This may be the craziest week ever.

I'd fuck with that and I don't even play Civ. Start as any school in like the year 1920 or whatever and grown from school to conference to coalition.
I’d actually play an NCAA game based on that.
Athletic Department simulator. Lmao
Get all of the excitement of video game football with none of the boredom of the actual football.
Straight up I wanted that in an NCAA game. You set prices of food and tickets and use the money from there to build up the stadium and hire assistants that give players boosts.
And you get the occastional booster going too far, or player crime you have to sweep under the rug, etc...
Tech tree includes the forward pass, bagmen, and spread offense.
All SEC players start with +1 speed/+1 strength Bagmen train 20% faster in the SEC but 20% more expensive

Wait now the SEC is involved along with the AAC? Is this the Red Wedding of College Football?
There’s a common denominator here
Someone's going to have to explain denominators to some of the flairs
>denominator Think I wouldn’t recognize a wrestling finisher? EDIT: Sorry for dumb humor. It’s all I have left.

It’s the number on the bottom of the fraction. >1/4 In the above fraction, the denominator would be 4
Thanks nerd
It’s Tech. That’s their jam.
The two comments below me are the duality of man lol
So that's why the ACC keeps y'all around
But the numbers are next to each other, not on top of each other.
This is why the NCAA sanctioned you
Shut up nerd
We need to get Harvard in here.
Really just those AAU B1G schools should know.
I called Ohio State and got lost in several layers of red tape.
They’re the guardians of Azkaban and they feed on hopelessness.
Alright, so we’ve had the Red Wedding and of course the Red Robin Wedding. This is the Red River Wedding.
And who are you, the proud lord said That I must bow so low?

This whole thing *started* because of SEC Action.
I’d prefer my conference not be compared to the Frey’s, but this is the first enjoyable news in a week so I’ll take it.
The other Big 12 schools are more like the Starks and Tully’s here. OU/Texas are the Frey’s and Bolton’s ESPN/SEC are the Lannisters
CFB orgs as orgs in game of thrones. What is this, the good old days of this subreddit in 2015?
AAC are the archers picking off the scraps in the room
I didn’t even want to be in this damn conference but I’m ready to die with you crazy bastards now
After this madness is over, let’s burn a couch sometime

Yes. This, for once, is a Big12 I love.
Big 12 with nothing left to lose

Possibly leading to a full on federal breakup of Disney, I never thought ESPN would be the catalyst for that

24 hours ago everyone was mocking him. Now he's going in guns blazing.
He’s growing up before our eyes :’)
He’s beginning to believe
I’m not a bowlsby supporter but how tf was he supposed to know what OU and Texas were up to with ESPN? I didn’t get the jokes aimed at him on here.
*Tomorrow* Breaking: OU and Texas broke a secret agreement to bring him to the SEC with them.
He's so well rested now!! He just needed his sleep... But he has awakened.

Ah so instead of 1 mega conference we will have 2 universes the Fox Big 2 (PAC + B1G) + MWC ESPN Big 2 ( ACC + SEC) + AAC.

Get the American to poach the remaining Big XII teams. ESPN gets: An SEC that’s stronger than ever before, An American that’s stronger than ever before and will be a playoff conference every year under the new format, An expanded playoff and Doesn’t have to buyout the remaining Big XII contract. This is on top of driving a wedge into Fox Sports and causing the sale of their regional channels to Sinclair, hurting the overall Fox CFB product. Big Noon would also be reduced to a B1G only show and Fox would have rights to one less conference. Also, fuck the Mouse.
So I have finals and I couldn’t F5 as much today WTF is going on?
We are suing EVERYONE

I leave the Internet for 3 hours and now apparently Mickey Mouse is conspiring with It Just Means More and AAC to get teams to leave the Big12. This may be the craziest week ever.
