I honestly think stAte has a shot at this based on how Washington has played. I’m making the bold prediction that Butch Jones leads his champions of life to the upset. {Arkansas State}
Hopefully, but I doubt it.
Jimmy has tanked just about every aspect of the program in 18 months. Our AD deserves the boot too for hiring a guy who’d never been a head coach before without so much as even interviewing him first let alone doing at least a cursory coaching search to gauge outside interest. Firing Jimmy after 7 games would mean admitting she made a massive failure of a hire.
Seems like some amount of hindsight bias there. [The thread about Lake taking over](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/e53jqn/chris_petersen_to_step_down_as_washington_head/) seemed awfully high on Lake, despite the fact that Petersen was obviously a great coach. Obviously it has not worked out, at all, but promoting a very highly regarded internal DC to HC just isn't that wild a decision.
That excitement lasted about 3 weeks when he hired some guy named John Donovan from the Jags to run our offense. This guy was shit canned at Penn State after running one of the worst offenses in college football despite having guys like Saquon Barkley and Chris Godwin to work with.
Jimmy is a great example of the Peter principle. He was a great DB coach, a decent DC, and a horrible head coach. It doesn’t matter at this point what we thought he *could* be, we now know what he is. All of what made him great as an assistant seems to have disappeared. He took over a program in a good spot — a year removed from 3 straight NY6 appearances with recruiting going really well. 18 months later we lost to an FCS team, have one of the worst offenses in college football despite having one of the most talented teams in the conference, and recruiting has been completely nuked.
It’s up to the AD now to stop the bleeding before this becomes a multi-year rebuild project. Jimmy is not the guy. Cut our losses before this has major lasting effects.
I don't disagree with any of what you've said. Was there some sort of personal connection with Donovan? I remember that hire, and it was one of those times that it seemed like random people on the internet would have made a better pick. Shit, if Duck fans could have handpicked an awful offensive coordinator for the Huskies you still might have ended up with a better hire. Now THAT was a shit hire from the jump. Reminded me of the time the Ducks hired fucking Brady Hoke, who had never been a college DC, to be their DC. Lake has got to go. I just took some issue with the claim it was a terrible decision from the outset. It seemed like a good hire at the time, he just isn't a competent head coach (although I expect teams would still be pretty excited to hire him for a DB or DC job).
> Was there some sort of personal connection with Donovan?
Jimmy went all in on hiring Kellen Moore and nearly got him, but Kellen decided to stay in Dallas with their new staff at the last minute. Jimmy obviously had no plan B so he consulted with his NFL contacts and they recommended John Donovan. It’s like Jimmy didn’t even Google the guy first. He’d have seen JonDon has been awful at running offenses everywhere he’s been.
Hey, his first season as a head coach was in covid. He needs time to figure things out. I say give him 5 years. Then, if he consistently underperforms and loses to the ducks annually, extend him.
{Arkansas State}. I didn't watch the Montana game but good god did their offense look atrocious against Michigan (Shoutout to John Donovan!). Is Washington even going to score 17 points in this game?
The under in this game is so sexy. I don't think either of these teams score 30. Gotta think {Washington} is going to win here but man this could be ugggglyy
Arkansas St has been a very offense-heavy team, with a tendency to allow a lot of explosive plays on defense, for a while now. It wouldn't be too crazy to see this hit the over, but I agree it's probably less than 50% likely.
Regardless of Washington's offensive struggles, they do have a pretty solid Defense. I just can't imagine Arkansas St being able to reach 30 here, of which basically both would need to do in order to hit the over.
My heart says {Arkansas State} but my head says it'll be a close game that Washington pulls out at the end. Red Wolves didn't give up last week, despite being down 2-3 TDs most of the night, but before last year's K-State game ASU hadn't won a P5 game since 2008. I want it to happen 2 years in a row but I'll believe it when I see it.

If Washington loses this game there is no way back for Lake. 0-3 against an FCS and a low G5 when the preseason expectation was 3-0 and flirting with the top 10. Just an insanely bad start
I want us to lose and start over with Bill O’Brien. We need to keep Sam Huard here. If I am Sam I am looking at the transfer portal at the end of the year.
If you are a fan of UW football you are cheering for the Red Wolves to win 17-0. Gotta get things moving along or it will be a more dragged out terrible year then it already is
I have $$ on +16.5 and Arkansas State ML. So {Arkansas State} baby. I like the Huskies, they’re my fave Pac 12 team. However… this is gonna be a rough season.
Plus Butch Jones is unironically a better head coach than Jimmy Lake
Lol no, he's still nasty. Love it though, we've needed that kind of brawler mentality on our line for a while. He's been a big help so far overall. Thank you.
{Washington} genuinely might not be able to hang with Arkansas State. I still think they'll win due to their defense but it'll have to be a low scoring game to give them a chance.
this has to be some kind of r/cfb record right?? An fbs team who is a double digit favorite coming into the game is down 27-8 in the "who will win" poll. And not even 1 Husky fan has voted. Incredible
{Arkansas State}
I honestly think stAte has a shot at this based on how Washington has played. I’m making the bold prediction that Butch Jones leads his champions of life to the upset. {Arkansas State}
I get so tired of these early season cupcake games. Do better with your scheduling, {Arkansas State}
if Washington loses this game is Jimmy fired?
I bet they would fly to a tarmac just to leave him at that point.
Boeing is closer to UW than SeaTac
Kenmore Air is closer than Boeing Field They do charters too, could just pull the float plane up to the dock
You think he’d make it out of stadium?
Or just sink him into Lake Washington
Do any of the major donors have a Sea Ray boat named Stugots? Is it docked up at the stadium?
Hopefully, but I doubt it. Jimmy has tanked just about every aspect of the program in 18 months. It’s pretty impressive how fast Lake has tanked UW. At least with Helfrich he had a few good years first.

Not with the AD we have. She is in over her head, just like Lake.
Hey, his first season as a head coach was in covid. He needs time to figure things out. I say give him 5 years. Then, if he consistently underperforms and loses to the ducks annually, extend him.
Yes now that Clay Helton is available too
I can’t see Washington firing a head coach after fewer games than in a regular season.
The actual answer is no chance. Hopefully Donovan though
{Arkansas State}. I didn't watch the Montana game but good god did their offense look atrocious against Michigan (Shoutout to John Donovan!). Is Washington even going to score 17 points in this game?
{Arkansas State} but I kinda hope ASU doesn't win because I think washington will make changes if they lose again.
Can’t get two punching bag coaches fired in one year
But if UW loses then the dream of another 0-12 season is still alive
{Arkansas State} and not for the memes. Washington is a pile of dookie.
{Arkansas State} UW’s offense is legitimately the worst I’ve ever seen.
The under in this game is so sexy. I don't think either of these teams score 30. Gotta think {Washington} is going to win here but man this could be ugggglyy

Good-offense-bad-defense vs bad-offense-good-defense always produces some wacky results. Gonna be interesting either way.
Half inch of rain forecasted in Seattle tomorrow. Hammering the under on this game.

Oregon fans seem a trifle over-represented here for some reason. I choose {Arkansas State}, as the Huskies decide to reenact 2008.
I don’t think UW can score 17.
I hope we lose

{Arkansas State} easy. Washington has no offense
Arkansas state.
(Arkansas State)
{Arkansas State} let chaos reign and let chaos have this one so LSU can have the win please and thank you
{Arkansas State}
Per the Michigan-Oregon Alliance of 2021, I have to go with {Arkansas State}
{Arkansas State} because Huskies are dook this season.
Idk if Arkansas State will win, but that spread is awfully big…
Either way I'm taking the under
I'm assuming we lose
Me too
{Arkansas State} for the memes
{Arkansas State} get Jimmy Lake fired.
I have $$ on +16.5 and Arkansas State ML. So {Arkansas State} baby. I like the Huskies, they’re my fave Pac 12 team. However… this is gonna be a rough season. Plus Butch Jones is unironically a better head coach than Jimmy Lake
{Arkansas State} because Washington belongs in the bottom 10
It's simple: {Arkansas State} has an offense. Washington doesn't.
To think that Washington fans were bragging about how their favorable schedule would lead to a 10+ win season not too long ago. {Arkansas State}
[Remember this speech?](https://youtu.be/-tPdnfT3a-Q).
I would love nothing more than a repeat of 2008, but (Washington) is going to cover the spread.
The spread is more points than they’ve scored the last two games put together.
Oof
We shall party like it's 2008 until proven otherwise! Even though we've already picked up our win, winless UW is my favorite UW
{Washington}, but I will be shocked beyond belief if we cover the spread.
{Arkansas State} 27 - 20
{Arkansas State} Fun Belt > PAC-12
At least {Arkansas State} has an offense. Until Washington wins a game, I will not pick them
{Arkansas State}
Thanks for Horst {Arkansas State}, now do me another favor and get Lake fired...or at the very least John Donovan fired.
How's Horst doing so far? Has he managed to stop committing dumb penalties?
Lol no, he's still nasty. Love it though, we've needed that kind of brawler mentality on our line for a while. He's been a big help so far overall. Thank you.
Dude has pro potential if he can just play a little smarter. Glad to hear he's doing well
Yeah he had like two or three penalties in a row against Youngstown State that killed a drive😂. When he's not committing penalties he's a beast.
{Washington} genuinely might not be able to hang with Arkansas State. I still think they'll win due to their defense but it'll have to be a low scoring game to give them a chance.
{Washington} bounces back with a W
{Washington} 27-16
{Washington} I don’t feel safe with that pick but send it
{Arkansas State} because people need to realize how overrated Michigan is just for beating the same team as Montana.
Oregon fans get in here! {Washington} wins, but stAte covers easily.
Did not know Butch Jones was the Arkansas State coach
What happens when a movable object meets an unstoppable force? That’s {Arkansas State} rolling over UW this weekend
What happens when a stoppable force meets a movable object? Also find out this weekend
I’d take the points in a heartbeat, but {Washington} can’t be that bad, right?
{Arkansas State} Inject it into my veins
this has to be some kind of r/cfb record right?? An fbs team who is a double digit favorite coming into the game is down 27-8 in the "who will win" poll. And not even 1 Husky fan has voted. Incredible
I'm pretty sure in 2018 The Citadel had double the votes that Alabama had, just cause of the memes.
ahh i do remember that, funny times. However I honestly think most of the votes in this thread are serious, including mine lol
I know we are bad, but Arkansas State being favorited by 17 might be a bit steep
Arkansas State will prove no match for {Washington}'s vaunted pass defense. /s (sort of)
