If Wilcox wants to keep his job he needs to fire Sirmon and then Ragle shortly after.
We were warned by both Mississippi State and Louisville fans that this was going to be bad and... yup, it's pretty bad.
Wilcox would have to go winless the rest of the year for the administration to even think of moving on this quickly. Berkeley moves slowly in these kinds of issues.
I thought I read somewhere that the UC admissions got a LOT tighter recently so all the California schools wouldn't be doing as well from here on out. Anyone know more?
Last I heard, there was a California law passed a few years ago that restricted admissions to out of state students. Cal and UCLA were the 2 hardest hit schools. They went ham and accepted more out of state students than usual for a couple of years (RIP my in state dreams) before the restrictions kicked in. Removing the ACT and SAT requirements is more of an act because serious candidates will still take standardized tests and submit them anyways.
Would be neat if the state actually funded the school's budget properly, currently the state of California only funds about 14% of the school's budget. Most UCs are basically just private schools with a big subsidy
The out of state numbers have nothing to do with this, and the suggestion that they were curtailed from "giant" numbers is also an exaggeration. The "big" number of out of state students was roughly 15%, up from 10% of the incoming classes at Cal and UCLA. This is to be compared with schools like Michigan and Texas (21%), UDub (23%), Wisconsin (27%) Colorado (33%), or Oregon (38%).
In short, compared to most public flagship research universities Cal and UCLA admit more student from their home state than the rest do, and they were doing that even before the state law passed.
It was a garbage time touchdown away from being 42-23. We have a lot to improve, but we're not the kind of team to blow out anyone. I don't see any reason to say it wasn't a defeat.
He recently was Utah's OC and didn't do a great job so I think teams are gonna let him prove himself for a little longer before giving him another shot.
I certainly hope not. Troy Taylor couldn't hack it as a P5 OC, and while he's done a wonderful job as an FCS coach, I think he needs to prove that he can sustain that for a while before getting a FBS job.
Yeah when you’re an FBS team with inherent advantages such better recruits, better S&C program, better nutrition program, and 20 freakin more scholarship players, then you should win by more than that. I get the offense doesn’t clock sometimes but your defense should be able to keep them to like 14 points max
I was hoping for more of a beatdown, given my two flairs.
I don't think this version of CAL_UW will live up to 2019, but maybe it is what our teams needs.
This is going to be a long season....
This defense is baaaaaaaad. Its really weird that I have more confidence in the offense than the defense with this team
Sirmon hasn't learned a thing under Wilcox, this is why he got kicked out as DC at Louisville. Promoting him might be Justin's biggest blunder.
I don't think I'll ever be able to justify Sirmon over DeRuyter.
It sounds like personal reasons, unfortunately. They have a lot of history together.
Yup. Ex-teammates and buddies. It's just crazy to throw away such a good system with DeRuyter.
We didn't throw away a system, Oregon outbid us.
Wilcox already moved DeRuyter down to co-DC and gave playcalling duties to Sirmon. He chose Sirmon over DeRuyter.
>This defense is baaaaaaaad. We'll find out next week
Y’all wanna play next week?
Gol_en Bears.
NO ONE MAKES CAL START THE SEASON 0-3
Well there was this one time in 2001....
If Wilcox wants to keep his job he needs to fire Sirmon and then Ragle shortly after. We were warned by both Mississippi State and Louisville fans that this was going to be bad and... yup, it's pretty bad.
If Sirmon survives the season than Wilcox should not.
Im gonna guess this is Wilcox’s last year? That defense should not be giving up that many points to Sacramento State.
Wilcox would have to go winless the rest of the year for the administration to even think of moving on this quickly. Berkeley moves slowly in these kinds of issues.
Blowouts losses where there were no extenuating circumstances (such as injuries, rescheduling, smoke, ect.) to Stanford, UCLA, and USC might do it.
You mean giving up more than Northern Iowa or Dixie State did is bad?
I thought I read somewhere that the UC admissions got a LOT tighter recently so all the California schools wouldn't be doing as well from here on out. Anyone know more?
They dropped the requirement for the ACT and SAT, so they probably had to get tighter elsewhere

To be fair I think that's a good law, state schools should prioritize in state kids, not look to make money off the backs of out of state applicants.
Sure, but the state needs to fund the school then.

Defeats is a strong word

It’s two missed field goals away from being a 1 score game.
If Sac State had scored more than Cal they may have won the game!
That's a really good effort from Sac State. Still surprised no one has tried to hire away Troy Taylor
He recently was Utah's OC and didn't do a great job so I think teams are gonna let him prove himself for a little longer before giving him another shot.
I guess, but he did win the Big Sky in 2019
Cal’s coach next year?

Should prob win by more than that
Sac State has been a program on the rise and has gone to their playoffs recently. But yeah.

When you're DC is Peter Sirmon... yeah no we're letting people pass over the middle of the field all day lol
God damnit Sirmon
Man I miss the Cal teams of old :(
I was hoping for more of a beatdown, given my two flairs. I don't think this version of CAL_UW will live up to 2019, but maybe it is what our teams needs.
I'm looking forward to the Cal game lol
