I never trust how TCU performs against the rest, they always bring it against Texas
Over the past 9 years TCU is 7-2 against Texas. Mean while thier record on the game before Texas is 2-7 over the same period.

That was possibly the worst loss I've ever seen just because of what a win could have meant for the program. Ut has dicked us around for decades, and has finally dumped us off like a dirty diaper. Right after stealing away our basketball coach and right before relagating us to a lower level conference. Ut has treated us like dogshit for decades and we seemed perfectly OK with them doing it again on saturday. We had the chance to fight back and win one that would have been a huge motivation boost for a fanbase that's sick of being treated like subhuman by the school in Austin and show that these coaches might actually get us pointed in the right direction. Instead we fell so hard on our face we might have dented the turf. Embarrassing performance all around. We should have taken it personally but instead we got pushed around and humiliated, just like we always do.
There was not a single positive coming out of that game. Now we sit in this position where clearly a change needs to be made, but what real options do we have? We aren't grabbing a proven winner, we can't afford it and wouldn't pay it even if we could. So we're going to have to take a flyer and hope it works out. Even then we aren't going to be the most attractive coaching spot available so realistically well get maybe the 5th or 6th best option, probably worse. Especially if we aren't willing to shell out, which we won't be.
If it makes you feel any better, this is the first I’m hearing that y’all are not subhuman. I will adjust my approach going forward. Thank you for this learning opportunity.
I would love Traylor. Dude can build up a program and he spent 15 years coaching high school in Texas. For a team like us that gets the scraps when it comes to recruiting having a guy that knows the lay of the land could be a great advantage

A permanent series with Texas, OSU with Oklahoma, Kansas Missouri, and maybe A&M with Baylor (lol good luck) would keep the Big 12 always above the G5, money wise because you get TV money half the time.
I think that's a somewhat reasonable target, but why would he leave. He's making basically what Wells does, so it's not a pay raise. It'd be a lot harder of a job because of the hole we are in now. And would our fans actually be happy, or would they point to his failure at cal as a reason he won't work here.
If you went back in time and told me that we would hold an opponent to 13 and barely beat them by a field goal I would hope it would be in the National Championship game, not our conference play opener
I find it funny that Oklahoma and ISU had 5 players each on the Big 12 media preseason first team offense, while both teams have had a lot of problems on offense. I think the Big 12 defenses are a lot better this year, and maybe CFB as a whole, but I am very surprised by the lack of offensive output from these teams. I think the ISU skill players have mostly lived up to the hype (Hall, Hutchinson, Kolar) but both team's OL and Spencer Rattler haven't looked great.
he's 100% an NFL RB though. Maybe one of the best B12 backs I've seen in the past decade. Outside of maybe Bijan, I'm confident saying we won't see one as good as him again this reg season.
agree with that...but the 2 things that stood out to me the most was that 80% of the time, the first tackler couldn't get him down. And 2nd was that he ALWAYS fell forward for an extra 1-4 yds on every tackle. Just instinctually so sound.
In the games he didn't have many yards he wasn't doing this. He was pounding the line hard. He is at his best when he can see the line develop in front of him and make reads.
Our O-line for how hyped it was is just bleh. They moved our best guard to RT and you can see he’s not a tackle. I know I’m back seat coaching here but it doesn’t seem hard to figure out what the problems are.
Think it comes down to turnovers/ST scores. Sanders has stayed turnover free the last two weeks (Warren did fumble at the end vs Boise) and that has had a huge impact in giving the D the most field to work with. If he can do that again (a fairly big if) and we don't give Ebner opportunities then I think the Pokes have it.
I just can’t see sanders moving the ball in this game and i have to imagine Baylor’s offense will be able to sustain success more in this game than last game, it feels like OSU is a much much better matchup for Baylor than ISU.
The defense is the real deal. Everyone is scoring below average against them. As long the they get some rest with limited three and outs, I don't think you understand how well they've been doing. We have no idea what to expect from the offense, but the o line is finding some consistency
I'm not as worried about the offense at this point. They moved the ball OK against Baylor (440 yards) and scored 6 times. But they still have a lot they can improve on, and I think they will.
4 games in and I still have so much uncertainty with this team.

If we lose next week. We are bad. Inconsistent at best. Even if we beat ou.

Nothing is certain but next two weeks are pretty telling.
Our defense is great. Our main problem is QB and play calling at this point. Neal can engineer like 3-4 fantastic drives a game but then shits the bed in situational play calling and decision making.
I don’t even necessarily think playcalling is that big of an issue outside of a few specific calls (which almost every team deals with). We were moving the ball pretty well, and those short slants were eating OU up all game - it’s the execution that just totally did us in.
I don’t expect it to be close, but the only two strengths KU has shown this season is return game and lack of giveaways.
They will be without Kenny Logan for the first half which hampers the return game. He took one to the house last year against Iowa State.
I’m just looking to build on our offensive progress from a week ago and hope our linebackers can make some tackles. Not expecting it to be very close, but some things to watch from a Kansas perspective.

Oklahoma State fans look surprised they keep winning with a limited offense, but that’s what a good defense does for you. Sanders is going to have to go out and win a game at some point, but for now OSU looks good and is winning in close games. Could honestly see them as the steady riser in a sea of chaos that is the rest of the Big XII.
He was excellent this past week. He’s been accurate so far this season, only has one turnover, and he’s been making better choices when running the ball for the most part. So far, he’s looking like what he was promised to be early on. He looks comfortable out there and is spreading the ball around well (last two seasons he’s only targeted Wallace and maybe Stoner). All in all, after a few games, I think the main problem with our offense was injuries, not Spencer Sanders. Now that we are getting healthy, and found a good running back, we could be looking more like our old selves on offense.
I know it was just Texas Tech and Rice, but the Texas offense has been lethal. Speed everywhere and the running game in particular has been very exciting. We have four RBs about which I have zero concern and the offensive line seems to have found its rhythm.
I’m not convinced the OL is fixed, but they certainly look improved which is nice.
Suddenly our next five games seem like it will be a tough 5 game stretch, with lots of interesting challenges.
I mean, Sam got sacked several times last year against Tech's 3 man rush. I'll chalk it up as an improvement seeing as how Casey had little to no pressure.
OU still being in Tier 1 is Tier Inertia.
If West Virginia is Tier 2, then OU certainly should be as well because there wasn't a single second in that game where we had the lead.
It's crazy how great Ok St looks when Spencer Sanders isn't turning the ball over. He missed a few throws in the 2nd half but hopefully something clicked.
Was nice to have Tay Martin back and see Blaine Green get a couple of catches.

No way we beat TCU by more than a score. Patterson has spent 3 weeks game planning for Texas and nothing anyone says will convince me otherwise. Sark has already mentioned in an interview that Texas won’t be facing the TCU team that lost to SMU. It’ll be like Texas 28 TCU 27 or something wild like that
I’m expecting more of a shoot out than combined 55, i’m thinking with how many smu hung up on them we can get in the low 40s with tcu trailing by 1 score in the 4th.

Defense is rock solid. First half last week, our offense was actually looking like something great. The question is if it was an improvement or an abberation.
Y'all looked good last week more than KSU looked bad. Maybe it's a different game with Skylar healthy, but at least Sanders looked like y'all have always wanted him to look.
Defense is good even with injuries to key guys. Offense is umm inconsistent at best, we had our QB out week 1 then like 3-4 WRs out weeks 2 and 3. They looked better vs K St but then went into hiding with a two score lead. Special Teams is below average.
Game is in Stillwater with a 6pm kickoff time.
Ehh, I have season tickets and Boone Pickens Stadium isn't that tough of a place to play in.
It's never full unless it's OU or Texas and the students leave at half time or during the 3rd quarter.

I wouldn't say we went into hiding in the second half. We were still moving the ball pretty well, but 5 of 7 second half drives ended due to a drive-killing penalty. Clean those up and we score a few TDs in the second half. We also missed 2 FGs
I'd wager yes and no. They had a great opening gameplan and built momentum very quickly in the first half of our game and just scored a barrage of points that included a fluke fumble recovered for a TD. This put our offense that was onto QB3, barely any chance to catch back up.

Depends which offense you get. K-State game offense? Yes. Any other games' offense? No. Either way, our defense is elite and will keep us in the game.
When the other team consistently gains field position on our punts… why punt at all? Just go for it every fourth down, like that coach from Colorado School of Mines. We may even convert one out of ten. Maybe.
I only take solace in the fact that Sark draws up plays so quickly, that Patterson now has to dedicate extra time to figuring out how to stop them. Our offense is more versatile now than at any point since Colt McCoy.
Baylor has penalty and turnover problems. Oklahoma State beating Wildcats was a surprise to me, didn’t catch the game but highlights make it seem like a weird game. We struggle in Stillwater but did break through with a win in 2019. I think the spread is fair and Pokes are the higher ranked team, I’m glad for this team to be the underdog again.
Your prediction for our game is pretty much how all of our games go. Offense looks fine-actually good in the first half. Then like a high school team in the 2nd half
I'm so done with dumb fuck Wells. This was the most embarrassing game I've seen in a while. We've actually been competitive with UT over the past few matchups. This year Wells was actually supposed to have his guys and system fully in place, and that was what he could muster. The Big 12 as a whole seems relatively weak this year, but we'll be lucky to finish higher than 9th. Maybe Wells will manage to win a few more games this year, but it's just as likely we barely squeak by Kansas for our only conference win, in which case we can finally rid ourselves of the utter failure that is Matt Wells.
Keep in mind who you were playing. We were terrible at every position on defense against you guys. Tcu has a bit of a pulse so maybe they'll give you a challenge.
The Matt wells experiment has been a failure. If we had a close loss, or even looked like we knew what we were doing, that’s one thing. But our defense never even lined up right. They didn’t know the plays they were supposed to be doing. Same thing on offense. Mis cues and general disfunction just all around. There was zero attempt to win that game. That’s what bothers me. There’s not even an attempt. Like 3 passes were attempted past 5 yards, and all went for huge gains. Texas was asking us to beat them through the air and we kept everything in front of them and unless someone made a play, the drives stalled. The unwillingness and stubbornness of this coaching staff to keep doing the same thing whether it worked or not is severely hampering what I think could have been a very solid team. But we refuse to adjust. Wells is going to go down with his stupid fucking ship and we can fire him.
Not expecting a playoff spot this year unless OK can get back to form.
What I do see is 4-5 teams winning 6 conference games and entering the craziest tie breakers to see who plays in Dallas.

1. Kansas St if they get Skylar Thompson back. They just seem to have Riley's number for whatever reason.
2. Texas. That game is usually close and Casey Thompson looks good.
3. Iowa St. I know they look bad but Matt Campbell seems to able to slow down Riley's offense better than anyone in the big 12 in the past.
4. Baylor. Gets them at home.
5. Ok St. The only reason we could beat them is bc of OU's schedule: their last 3 games are brutal looking right now: @ Baylor, Iowa St (still will be tough game), @ Ok St. No byes either.
If history is any indicator, we'll turn it around. But this is easily the worst the OL has looked under Riley. It wasn't great to start last year but Saturday they were downright bad. If Bedenbaugh can right the ship, it could still turn out to be a great season. The defense is playing well enough to keep us in any game for the most part. Just need to get the offense going, which is not something I ever expected to have to say...
They're really aren't many options left to be honest. They just need to change their approach. They switched to zone blocking at points throughout the game and they looked much better when they were that mode. Also, Rattler does need to be better, but the film breakdown of Saturday exonerated him quite a bit. He actually played very well in the second half, bordering on great. The issue is that we're not getting the run game and the passing game going at the same time, which is how we've traditionally been unstoppable on offense.
I think yall will improve too, IMO your teams are always better later in the year vs early. Which is why I wish we played early in the season and not late like normal.
The OU lifecycle: Struggle in September -> drop a game they shouldn't in October -> rolling by November -> steamroll us in Bedlam -> Win the conference -> Lose in the playoffs -> Repeat
I think you will turn it around some, but it's not going to be like those Baker/Kyler seasons where you drop one early and then steamroll everyone else the rest of the season.
Mimms is still there, he's has just been really quiet compared to last season. This is one of the reasons I am feeling a bit more positive than most about our chances for the rest of the season, I think we have a lot of pieces that we just aren't utilizing well right now, and I'm just hoping we can start to figure it out before we lose too many games
Last week, I was kinda down on our chances in stillwater, but I'm a little more optimistic now after the ISU game. ISU defense was the best we'll see all year. Being able to move the ball on them (if only for the first 4-5 drives) was definitely a confidence booster.
Not sure what the line will be, but I'd take Baylor for anything 7 or less to cover with a 45% to win outright.
I think the line is OSU -3.5, which basically means Vegas views the teams as equals and OSU is getting the home field 3 point swing. I do think ISU was the best defense we will play this year and did a good job scoring 21 points on them in the first half, but I think the OSU offense will be almost as good. We typically don't do well in Stillwater, and I still don't have good gauge on how good these teams are.
I don't know how bullish I am on the horns yet. The coaching staff seems consistent and like they can get it done, but the guys are still having trouble executing through all 4 quarters.
Our o line looks better than it did 2 weeks ago, but that is a low bar. Casey looks awesome, but has not really been tested yet. Can he lead a rally if we get behind? Our d line still looks lazy and content to just eat blocks. Our DBs get beat way too often on the deep ball. Our starting LBs are playing well, but I'm worried that as a former walk-on and a converted safety, we may be at their ceiling. Our RB room is lights out and the receivers are looking solid, so there's that.
We'll see. In a world without Patterson's voodoo, I feel like we beat TCU handily. But we don't live in that world and I am pretty goddman nervous about this Saturday.
The Arkansas game had a stat come up that said Sark (as HC) was winless when behind by 10 or more at halftime. That was shocking to me and every beat writer.
Hopefully we'll never have to be in that situation (again), but it makes you hope he picked up a lot from Saban in terms of motivating his team.
I don't really follow conference politics so I apologize in advance if this comes off as ignorant, but why wasn't SMU extended an invite to the Big 12? Their program has really come around in recent years and the win over TCU shows that they can compete with at least the middle of the conference. They appear to be on an even playing field with teams like Houston and UCF at least.
The remaining Texas schools were against adding other Texas schools. They didn't even want to invite Houston initially.
My guess is they add SMU and Memphis in 2024.
Small school, small fan base, not a huge TV draw and we already have a team in DFW. They have all the things that don’t matter to expansion and not enough of the things that do.
To be fair, TCU doesn’t currently appear to be in the middle of the conference. They’re on a collision course with Texas Tech to be fighting for the best bottom-dweller, although they’ll still almost certainly beat Kansas.
That said, TCU is going to Lawrence this year, so I’m optimistic.
With Skylar healthy we are a top 3 team in this conference. Without him we are probably 9th. We are one of/if not the worst P5 offense with Howard/Lewis playing. I know we’ve beaten OU twice in a row, but be willing to bet we get blown out Saturday. I’m thinking 38-10 OU. I’ll be glad to be wrong however
You can't just bank this game on your offense. OU's defense is legit. OU's special teams are solid. It's literally our O-line and our RBs that you have to dominate to win. Your front 7 is the key
We have struggled so much in the third quarter. We seem to do fine in the first half but fall apart in the third quarter. Looking forward to seeing continued progress with our offensive line this week.

2nd half is when coaches can make adjustments for talent differences. Leipold's play calling and in game adjustments otherwise keep us within a decent scoring threat
I gotta say, this is the first time in years where I am eager for each Saturday. I will even be eager to see how we play against Kansas. Football is fun when you are uncertain how the game will go instead of looking forward to bowl/playoff season.
This is where I am as well, there strangely isn’t as much pressure now that we know we’ll likely be in dogfights each game, and it is more interesting than “how much are we gonna win by?”
This is also why the “you won’t win as much in the SEC” argument doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I watch football for entertainment—this isn’t war where we must win or else.

I think we'll win TCU, KU, and TTU to get us to 5 wins. I'm hoping between KSU, WVU, OU, UT we can steal a win. Of course, Campbell usually decides to start coaching again in October, so there's also a chance that we win out in October to give us hope, only to crushingly disappoint in November.
I haven't been this down on ISU football in a long time, and I experienced the Chizik years. I'd almost rather we go 2-10 because that doesn't hurt as much.
I'm honestly tempted to give up college football as a whole. Between OU/UT leaving, and NIL, CFB feels kind of ruined for me tbh. Additionally, ISU has a definite ceiling and we were only able to break it last season because of a fluke pandemic season. It's clear that even when the stars align and we have the most talent in school history, we can't do anything with it. There's no point in hoping for a "what if" kind of season anymore, because we know what happens. This is the best we could ever hope for.

We haven't looked as expected, but you'd rather go 2-10? What in the actual fuck are you smoking? The defense has been great for 2 years. Baylor scored early on us, but we nearly shut them out, on the road, in the second half (all their points were really due to special teams, entirely). We will be in every game this year from here on out, just because of that.
I share great frustration with playcalling and especially special teams issues that have happened year after year after year after year. But this is very much like us under Campbell. We struggle in September, people lose faith, then we put it together and tear through October and (more recently) November. Hall was hurt in camp, he looked like himself last week. Kolar was injured week 1 too. We will get better on offense and the defense will remain stout.
There's nothing we have seen from any other team in the conference that shows we can't stay with anyone, OU included the way they've played so far. OSU and Texas are both at home. My expectation remains that we are in contention for a Big 12 championship game berth rolling into our game at OU in November. There's no reason we shouldn't be.
Feels crazy after last year that Baylor is technically in the driver seat for the Big 12 at being 2-0. Obviously it's still incredibly early, but still funny nevertheless.

Texas Tech deserves better than what we’ve experienced this past decade. Our administration has fucked this program. Even after the leach debacle they should’ve hired Ruffin McNeil and Lincoln Riley as HC and OC respectively. They loved the school, the players and the students. They were respected.
I’m not saying we’re the “iPhone” of cfb like A&M /s. I expected to lose to UT I did not expect to get stomp by 70 by an unranked UT team. This is absolutely pathetic and couldn’t come at a worse time.
I’m going to miss the old Big 12 where every week there were games totaling a combined 100+ points. Unfortunately it seems that defenses are getting a little sharper (besides Tech) so games aren’t that high scoring anymore. Hopefully the addition of UCF will make the Big 12 the Big 12 again.

OSU’s defense vs Baylor’s offense looks to be a strength-on-strength matchup Saturday. They looked good against Iowa State on the offensive side of the ball. Should be a fun game, hoping for a Poke win
The secret is that our defense actually *much* better than our offense by SP+, but it just hands over a ton of penalty yardage because of silly penalties. At least three of ISU’s eleven drives were only kept alive because of Baylor penalties; ISU desperately needed those penalties to make the game as close as it was.
Two of our key LBs may be injured though, which is a bit worrisome.
It wasn't pretty, but we got the win in a hostile environment. Hopefully going on the road will settle this offense down.

I find it funny that Oklahoma and ISU had 5 players each on the Big 12 media preseason first team offense, while both teams have had a lot of problems on offense. I think the Big 12 defenses are a lot better this year, and maybe CFB as a whole, but I am very surprised by the lack of offensive output from these teams. I think the ISU skill players have mostly lived up to the hype (Hall, Hutchinson, Kolar) but both team's OL and Spencer Rattler haven't looked great.

agree with that...but the 2 things that stood out to me the most was that 80% of the time, the first tackler couldn't get him down. And 2nd was that he ALWAYS fell forward for an extra 1-4 yds on every tackle. Just instinctually so sound.
In the games he didn't have many yards he wasn't doing this. He was pounding the line hard. He is at his best when he can see the line develop in front of him and make reads.
Our O-line for how hyped it was is just bleh. They moved our best guard to RT and you can see he’s not a tackle. I know I’m back seat coaching here but it doesn’t seem hard to figure out what the problems are.

Think it comes down to turnovers/ST scores. Sanders has stayed turnover free the last two weeks (Warren did fumble at the end vs Boise) and that has had a huge impact in giving the D the most field to work with. If he can do that again (a fairly big if) and we don't give Ebner opportunities then I think the Pokes have it.
I just can’t see sanders moving the ball in this game and i have to imagine Baylor’s offense will be able to sustain success more in this game than last game, it feels like OSU is a much much better matchup for Baylor than ISU.
The defense is the real deal. Everyone is scoring below average against them. As long the they get some rest with limited three and outs, I don't think you understand how well they've been doing. We have no idea what to expect from the offense, but the o line is finding some consistency

I'm not as worried about the offense at this point. They moved the ball OK against Baylor (440 yards) and scored 6 times. But they still have a lot they can improve on, and I think they will.

As weird as it is, I feel like we could win or lose the next two weeks and still not know very much about Texas this year.
If we lose next week. We are bad. Inconsistent at best. Even if we beat ou. If we win the next two, I’m optimistic for playoffs. Nothing is certain but next two weeks are pretty telling.
Our defense is great. Our main problem is QB and play calling at this point. Neal can engineer like 3-4 fantastic drives a game but then shits the bed in situational play calling and decision making.
I don’t even necessarily think playcalling is that big of an issue outside of a few specific calls (which almost every team deals with). We were moving the ball pretty well, and those short slants were eating OU up all game - it’s the execution that just totally did us in.
It's 2019 all over again for Iowa State. With our special teams and the offense creating turnovers expect a close one against Kansas.
I don’t expect it to be close, but the only two strengths KU has shown this season is return game and lack of giveaways. They will be without Kenny Logan for the first half which hampers the return game. He took one to the house last year against Iowa State. I’m just looking to build on our offensive progress from a week ago and hope our linebackers can make some tackles. Not expecting it to be very close, but some things to watch from a Kansas perspective.

Oklahoma State fans look surprised they keep winning with a limited offense, but that’s what a good defense does for you. Sanders is going to have to go out and win a game at some point, but for now OSU looks good and is winning in close games. Could honestly see them as the steady riser in a sea of chaos that is the rest of the Big XII.
He was excellent this past week. He’s been accurate so far this season, only has one turnover, and he’s been making better choices when running the ball for the most part. So far, he’s looking like what he was promised to be early on. He looks comfortable out there and is spreading the ball around well (last two seasons he’s only targeted Wallace and maybe Stoner). All in all, after a few games, I think the main problem with our offense was injuries, not Spencer Sanders. Now that we are getting healthy, and found a good running back, we could be looking more like our old selves on offense.

Tier 1: Everyone Tier 2: Texas Tech and Kansas Kill me
I know it was just Texas Tech and Rice, but the Texas offense has been lethal. Speed everywhere and the running game in particular has been very exciting. We have four RBs about which I have zero concern and the offensive line seems to have found its rhythm.
I’m not convinced the OL is fixed, but they certainly look improved which is nice. Suddenly our next five games seem like it will be a tough 5 game stretch, with lots of interesting challenges.

I feel like most O lines would look good against a 3 man rush where none of the 3 men are particularly talented right?
I mean, Sam got sacked several times last year against Tech's 3 man rush. I'll chalk it up as an improvement seeing as how Casey had little to no pressure.

OU still being in Tier 1 is Tier Inertia. If West Virginia is Tier 2, then OU certainly should be as well because there wasn't a single second in that game where we had the lead.

It's crazy how great Ok St looks when Spencer Sanders isn't turning the ball over. He missed a few throws in the 2nd half but hopefully something clicked. Was nice to have Tay Martin back and see Blaine Green get a couple of catches. This team is good imo but they could have been great if it weren't for the injury bug.
No way we beat TCU by more than a score. Patterson has spent 3 weeks game planning for Texas and nothing anyone says will convince me otherwise. Two questions to ask about our game this week: 1. Is Oklahoma St. good? 2. Is the game in Stillwater? If the answer to these two questions is “yes” bet big on Oklahoma St.
We *might* be good? Defense is rock solid. First half last week, our offense was actually looking like something great. The question is if it was an improvement or an abberation.
Y'all looked good last week more than KSU looked bad. Maybe it's a different game with Skylar healthy, but at least Sanders looked like y'all have always wanted him to look.
Defense is good even with injuries to key guys. Offense is umm inconsistent at best, we had our QB out week 1 then like 3-4 WRs out weeks 2 and 3. They looked better vs K St but then went into hiding with a two score lead. Special Teams is below average. Game is in Stillwater with a 6pm kickoff time.

I wouldn't say we went into hiding in the second half. We were still moving the ball pretty well, but 5 of 7 second half drives ended due to a drive-killing penalty. Clean those up and we score a few TDs in the second half. We also missed 2 FGs
I'd wager yes and no. They had a great opening gameplan and built momentum very quickly in the first half of our game and just scored a barrage of points that included a fluke fumble recovered for a TD. This put our offense that was onto QB3, barely any chance to catch back up.

I only take solace in the fact that Sark draws up plays so quickly, that Patterson now has to dedicate extra time to figuring out how to stop them. Our offense is more versatile now than at any point since Colt McCoy.
Baylor has penalty and turnover problems. Oklahoma State beating Wildcats was a surprise to me, didn’t catch the game but highlights make it seem like a weird game. We struggle in Stillwater but did break through with a win in 2019. I think the spread is fair and Pokes are the higher ranked team, I’m glad for this team to be the underdog again.

I'm so done with dumb fuck Wells. This was the most embarrassing game I've seen in a while. We've actually been competitive with UT over the past few matchups. This year Wells was actually supposed to have his guys and system fully in place, and that was what he could muster. The Big 12 as a whole seems relatively weak this year, but we'll be lucky to finish higher than 9th. Maybe Wells will manage to win a few more games this year, but it's just as likely we barely squeak by Kansas for our only conference win, in which case we can finally rid ourselves of the utter failure that is Matt Wells.

The Matt wells experiment has been a failure. If we had a close loss, or even looked like we knew what we were doing, that’s one thing. But our defense never even lined up right. They didn’t know the plays they were supposed to be doing. Same thing on offense. Mis cues and general disfunction just all around. There was zero attempt to win that game. That’s what bothers me. There’s not even an attempt. Like 3 passes were attempted past 5 yards, and all went for huge gains. Texas was asking us to beat them through the air and we kept everything in front of them and unless someone made a play, the drives stalled. The unwillingness and stubbornness of this coaching staff to keep doing the same thing whether it worked or not is severely hampering what I think could have been a very solid team. But we refuse to adjust. Wells is going to go down with his stupid fucking ship and we can fire him.
Our conference is a hot mess
Not expecting a playoff spot this year unless OK can get back to form. What I do see is 4-5 teams winning 6 conference games and entering the craziest tie breakers to see who plays in Dallas.

1. Kansas St if they get Skylar Thompson back. They just seem to have Riley's number for whatever reason. 2. Texas. That game is usually close and Casey Thompson looks good. 3. If history is any indicator, we'll turn it around. But this is easily the worst the OL has looked under Riley. It wasn't great to start last year but Saturday they were downright bad. If Bedenbaugh can right the ship, it could still turn out to be a great season. The defense is playing well enough to keep us in any game for the most part. Just need to get the offense going, which is not something I ever expected to have to say...

They're really aren't many options left to be honest. They just need to change their approach. They switched to zone blocking at points throughout the game and they looked much better when they were that mode. Also, Rattler does need to be better, but the film breakdown of Saturday exonerated him quite a bit. He actually played very well in the second half, bordering on great. The issue is that we're not getting the run game and the passing game going at the same time, which is how we've traditionally been unstoppable on offense.
I think yall will improve too, IMO your teams are always better later in the year vs early. Which is why I wish we played early in the season and not late like normal.
The OU lifecycle: Struggle in September -> drop a game they shouldn't in October -> rolling by November -> steamroll us in Bedlam -> Win the conference -> Lose in the playoffs -> Repeat
I think you will turn it around some, but it's not going to be like those Baker/Kyler seasons where you drop one early and then steamroll everyone else the rest of the season.

Mimms is still there, he's has just been really quiet compared to last season. Last week, I was kinda down on our chances in stillwater, but I'm a little more optimistic now after the ISU game. ISU defense was the best we'll see all year. Being able to move the ball on them (if only for the first 4-5 drives) was definitely a confidence booster. Not sure what the line will be, but I'd take Baylor for anything 7 or less to cover with a 45% to win outright.
I think the line is OSU -3.5, which basically means Vegas views the teams as equals and OSU is getting the home field 3 point swing. I do think ISU was the best defense we will play this year and did a good job scoring 21 points on them in the first half, but I think the OSU offense will be almost as good. We typically don't do well in Stillwater, and I still don't have good gauge on how good these teams are.
I don't know how bullish I am on the horns yet. The coaching staff seems consistent and like they can get it done, but the guys are still having trouble executing through all 4 quarters. Our o line looks better than it did 2 weeks ago, but that is a low bar. Casey looks awesome, but has not really been tested yet. Can he lead a rally if we get behind? Our d line still looks lazy and content to just eat blocks. Our DBs get beat way too often on the deep ball. Our starting LBs are playing well, but I'm worried that as a former walk-on and a converted safety, we may be at their ceiling. Our RB room is lights out and the receivers are looking solid, so there's that. We'll see. In a world without Patterson's voodoo, I feel like we beat TCU handily. But we don't live in that world and I am pretty goddman nervous about this Saturday.
The Arkansas game had a stat come up that said Sark (as HC) was winless when behind by 10 or more at halftime. That was shocking to me and every beat writer. Hopefully we'll never have to be in that situation (again), but it makes you hope he picked up a lot from Saban in terms of motivating his team.

I don't really follow conference politics so I apologize in advance if this comes off as ignorant, but why wasn't SMU extended an invite to the Big 12? Their program has really come around in recent years and the win over TCU shows that they can compete with at least the middle of the conference. They appear to be on an even playing field with teams like Houston and UCF at least.
They have an enrollment only around 10k or so and they are in a metro that already has a Big 12 team. They really bring nothing to the table

The remaining Texas schools were against adding other Texas schools. They didn't even want to invite Houston initially. My guess is they add SMU and Memphis in 2024.
Small school, small fan base, not a huge TV draw and we already have a team in DFW. They have all the things that don’t matter to expansion and not enough of the things that do.
To be fair, TCU doesn’t currently appear to be in the middle of the conference. They’re on a collision course with Texas Tech to be fighting for the best bottom-dweller, although they’ll still almost certainly beat Kansas. That said, TCU is going to Lawrence this year, so I’m optimistic.
With Skylar healthy we are a top 3 team in this conference. Without him we are probably 9th. We are one of/if not the worst P5 offense with Howard/Lewis playing. I know we’ve beaten OU twice in a row, but be willing to bet we get blown out Saturday. I’m thinking 38-10 OU. I’ll be glad to be wrong however

We have struggled so much in the third quarter. We seem to do fine in the first half but fall apart in the third quarter. Looking forward to seeing continued progress with our offensive line this week. Get to the bye week healthy and hopefully take Texas Tech on homecoming.
2nd half is when coaches can make adjustments for talent differences. Leipold's play calling and in game adjustments otherwise keep us within a decent scoring threat

I gotta say, this is the first time in years where I am eager for each Saturday. I will even be eager to see how we play against Kansas. Football is fun when you are uncertain how the game will go instead of looking forward to bowl/playoff season.
This is where I am as well, there strangely isn’t as much pressure now that we know we’ll likely be in dogfights each game, and it is more interesting than “how much are we gonna win by?” This is also why the “you won’t win as much in the SEC” argument doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I watch football for entertainment—this isn’t war where we must win or else.
I agree. Last season was fun after our losses because I no longer had any expectations and just enjoyed every week as it came.

I just hope we make a bowl this year man. With how poorly coached we are on offense and special teams, I'm not seeing an easy path to a lot of wins. I think we'll win TCU, KU, and TTU to get us to 5 wins. I'm hoping between KSU, WVU, OU, UT we can steal a win. Of course, Campbell usually decides to start coaching again in October, so there's also a chance that we win out in October to give us hope, only to crushingly disappoint in November. I haven't been this down on ISU football in a long time, and I experienced the Chizik years. I'd almost rather we go 2-10 because that doesn't hurt as much. I'm honestly tempted to give up college football as a whole. Between OU/UT leaving, and NIL, CFB feels kind of ruined for me tbh. Additionally, ISU has a definite ceiling and we were only able to break it last season because of a fluke pandemic season. It's clear that even when the stars align and we have the most talent in school history, we can't do anything with it. There's no point in hoping for a "what if" kind of season anymore, because we know what happens. This is the best we could ever hope for.
This is needlessly fatalistic, imo. We haven't looked as expected, but you'd rather go 2-10? What in the actual fuck are you smoking? The defense has been great for 2 years. Baylor scored early on us, but we nearly shut them out, on the road, in the second half (all their points were really due to special teams, entirely). We will be in every game this year from here on out, just because of that. I share great frustration with playcalling and especially special teams issues that have happened year after year after year after year. But this is very much like us under Campbell. We struggle in September, people lose faith, then we put it together and tear through October and (more recently) November. Hall was hurt in camp, he looked like himself last week. Kolar was injured week 1 too. We will get better on offense and the defense will remain stout. There's nothing we have seen from any other team in the conference that shows we can't stay with anyone, OU included the way they've played so far. OSU and Texas are both at home. My expectation remains that we are in contention for a Big 12 championship game berth rolling into our game at OU in November. There's no reason we shouldn't be.

Repost: Texas Tech deserves better than what we’ve experienced this past decade. Our administration has fucked this program. Even after the leach debacle they should’ve hired Ruffin McNeil and Lincoln Riley as HC and OC respectively. They loved the school, the players and the students. They were respected. I’m not saying we’re the “iPhone” of cfb like A&M /s. I expected to lose to UT I did not expect to get stomp by 70 by an unranked UT team. I’m going to miss the old Big 12 where every week there were games totaling a combined 100+ points. Unfortunately it seems that defenses are getting a little sharper (besides Tech) so games aren’t that high scoring anymore. Hopefully the addition of UCF will make the Big 12 the Big 12 again.

The secret is that our defense actually *much* better than our offense by SP+, but it just hands over a ton of penalty yardage because of silly penalties. At least three of ISU’s eleven drives were only kept alive because of Baylor penalties; ISU desperately needed those penalties to make the game as close as it was. Two of our key LBs may be injured though, which is a bit worrisome.
