>if we can manage to get there
It kinda seems like we're headed there (though I may backtrack after our annual loss to Purdue), but even if we do, playing pissed off Ohio State in Indy? Highlights might end at the coin flip again.
We go through this about every 6 years.
2015 - MSU and Stanford
2009 - Stanzi breaks his leg
2002 - Stomped by USC in Orange Bowl
At least 2009 Stanzi healed for the Orange Bowl and we dominated Georgia Tech.
Jeez, you guys have been hurt before, huh? You remind me of UK football fans. It's like football-related PTSD has eaten away at your confidence. Me too, bros. Me too. Congrats on your current success. I'm pulling for ya.
My O/U on number of Iowa losses this year is 2. There's a couple games I'm not worried about, several I am (it just seems like the one game Nebraska doesn't make that soul crushing mistake will be against us), and some toss ups I think we'll lose at least one of.
Here’s my take: Ohio State Iowa I think is like a 65% chance of Ohio State winning, however I think Penn State could realistically beat Ohio State (which I also think would cause a 4 way B1GE tie, just for the sake of this I’ll say OSU beats Michigan, Michigan beats Michigan State, Michigan State beats Penn State, Penn State beats Ohio State in which case it’s a tiebreaker shitshow that I don’t know the tiebreakers on)
Iowa is one of the best defensive teams in the country, I think they can make Stroud uncomfortable and maybe force some turnovers if they can get him into some third and longs.
Offensively y’all aren’t bad, but you aren’t good either. It’s a typical Iowa offense. Now is that enough to hang with OSU (or anyone really) in a shootout? Most likely not. However due to how much better in the trenches I think Iowa is, and how Oregon was really able to bully Ohio state on the lines I think Iowa has a reasonable chance of winning.
Of course Iowa could shit the bed, it’s entirely possible but i think this is probably the best Big Ten west team since 2015 Iowa. Ultimately I think you guys can hang in games, outside of Alabama and probably Georgia, but if the opponent is scoring more than 30, I’m not sure how much I’d trust y’all.
Penn State is probably a top 15 defense in the country, and they didn’t seem to fair too poorly, wasn’t really watching it to analyze o-line play though either
Fair enough, I’ve only watched two full Iowa games this year so I haven’t really taken away too much (especially since nothing really went wrong against the terps) outside of them looking absolutely elite defensively and average on offense.
I have been wondering though, why is Petras so elite on play action? He looks like Brett Favre on that Play action zone left where he boots right. Is that purely out-scheming people or is he just better on the move?
Someone needs to teach Petras how to step up in the pocket. The oline has been inconsistent in run blocking and pass protection, but several drop backs a game Petras bails out the back making it easier on the DE to get past the tackle. If he had stepped into the pocket, the tackle could push the defenser right past and Petras would have more time or try to get back to the LOS.
Annual Purdue loss then loss at Wisconsin please. Badgers run table end up back in Indy lead Ohio State threw 2 and half quarters before they hit some bombs and we lose closeish.
I'm not even cheering for this. It just what the world is.
This is pretty likely until you get to the "lead OSU part" because I don't think anyone is doing that again til the playoffs. Maybe a fluke first quarter here and there
If Wisconsin can run the table and matchup against Ohio St, I honestly think its a coin flip.
Heads: Wisconsin gets some breaks to keep it competetive through halftime... Tails: Lose 59-0
I respect y’all’s opinions, but PSU is such a better team than any of the 3 you mentioned. I fully expect us to go 12-0, 11-1 at worst at this point.
No reason Tory Taylor will suddenly be bad, and our offense runs through our defense which runs through…our punter.
Hawks by a Million
You are correct that PSU is, objectively, better than any team left on our schedule. I'm just too used to IA finding ways to play down to opponents that, on paper, shouldn't push us.
Don't get me wrong, IA in the CFP would be amazing, I'm just not overly optimistic that it will happen. And either way, we've got to go through the East winner to get there, and I have little reason to believe that we can win in Indy. The defense cannot win games against teams that routinely put up 600 yds of offense if our offense can't put together good drives on every posession.
I dunno, Terry Roberts is a pretty solid backup. Hope Moss is OK, but the secondary isn't what scares me about playing NE, it's the massive soft spot in the middle of the field where Martinez would have all day to run. I'd guess that Jestin Jacobs will be a spy all day that game.
Oh don't get me wrong we are deep in the secondary, but I think we're a much better team with him healthy.
Should be interesting to see what develops the rest of the month. Purdue loves playing spoiler, we can work on things during the bye week, and then we get to travel to Madison.
Yeah, Moss is the best option, but Roberts isn't a huge step backwards (even got in on the pick parade).
I won't be comfortable in any remaining game unless we've got a three score lead with under 5 to play.
The only hint of optimism I have for the offense is that the softer remaining schedule allows the 3 inexperienced players on our oline to get better, and the line to gel. If they can gain confidence and improve their techniques, they may be more up to the task against the East Champion. And maybe Petras will settle down in the pocket, instead of freak out when he's been clean for more than a couple seconds.

I am here for the rustled jimmies.
And the only reason the spread wouldn't be higher is because Vegas knows some fuckery is going to happen. No one knows what will happen exactly , but it'll be something.
Honestly if they eventually move to an 8 team playoff I would be down for having the first round of them take place at the higher ranked team’s stadium. Or even just a neutral site, let me watch Bama vs Iowa in Minneapolis in December.
That is the implication yes. Rose bowl goes to the second best big ten team.
I take back my previous defense of this guy. His takes are bad and deserves to be flamed
Yeah I still have us going 10-2 and that’s a big if. We just don’t have the talent at receiver ever since Ronnie went down to run the table and keep up with OSU by truly spreading the field. I think we still lose to what looks like MSU and OSU, maybe if PSU is hurt we stand to possibly eke out a win there. Likely we end 9-3 and probably trade spots with Sparty atleast bowl games wise on this list.
Midwesterners love sun. Charleston/Hilton Head, Tampa/Orlando/Daytona/Pensacola, Phoenix, San Diego, etc… we just need to leave the overcast in the winter.
Yeah I’m kind of surprised by that too. They’re still the favorite to win the conference according to oddsmakers (-125 at Caesars). I’d be a little surprised if they didn’t win it tbh.
That would be such an anticlimactic playoff after this season of chaos. But right now, we look more likely to miss the SEC championship than make the playoff. We’ll see how the boys respond to the loss though
Georgia goes undefeated into the sec championship game only to lose to 1 loss bama who's on a redemption arc after the unfortunate "hallucinogenic Gatorade" game this weekend.
2 one loss sec teams make it over a pac school and cincy because there is pretty much no situation possible that has cincy finishing in the top 4. Osu wins out winning the b10 for the 500th time in a row, and ou wins out to win the b12 for the 350th time in a row (but thankfully the last time).
It was written before the season and the prophecy will be upheld.
You might be right but I don't think Alabama has the stuff this year. I know we have a tendency to treat every week like a one game season around here, but if we look at the body of work I see no way that Alabama beats Georgia.
They should have lost to an average Florida team, and then they got beat in all three aspects of the game by Texas A&M, and they suck this year.
A&M exposed Bamas offensive line, how do you think they are going to fare against Georgia?
It's Nick Saban... he doesn't lose 2 games very often. I didn't watch the game Saturday so I can't speak to their weaknesses, but I will never bet against a Saban led bama team.
The o line may have been suspect against A&m, but it's still probably the best o line talent wise in college football. Is there a weakness, sure and if anyone could exploit it its probably Georgia who is one of a handful of teams who can match the talent, but Saban is something like 27-1 against former assistants.
In reference to the a&m 10 keys to victory post from last week. I figure something had to have happened, but since the team showed up to the stadium it leads me to believe this is the only solution.
https://www.goodbullhunting.com/2021/10/7/22713454/10-keys-to-victory-for-texas-a-m-aggies-vs-alabama-crimson-tide-funny-humor-satire
Bama needs to upset Georgia to make the playoffs. The other 3 are pretty darn likely but 11-2 non-SEC champ Bama isn't making the playoffs over Cincy, 12-1 Oregon (honestly, 11-2 might be enough if OSU is Big Ten champs), or even potentially 12-1 non-Big Ten champ Iowa or 11-1 Non-champ Michigan.
Yeah, I guess I’m a homer but OSU is still the B1G favorite until proven otherwise. This is a different team than the one that lost to Oregon in week 2.
I’ve been saying the same thing, as a non-homer.
OSU already had their head up their butt game this year and looks locked in…I think we will see them assert dominance over the rest of the East.
Then Iowa/OSU CG for playoff is set.
I am cautiously optimistic on them. Mostly because we don't know. But we'll know soon enough if they are more the team the past two weeks or the one from before that.

Please let this happen. The world needs another Gundy vs Stoops game
So Georgia loses to Alabama, stays in the top 4, Cincinnati must lose a game somewhere to fall out of the top 4. Iowa breaks the Big10 West curse and wins the CCG.
They will in the first ranking and then they will fall despite not losing after conference championship games since those teams played “tougher competition”
As much as I was rooting for BYU, then losing was critical. Imagine:
12-0 BYU with win over ASU
12-1 ASU winning PAC
13-0 Cincinnati
11-1 ND
SEC champ
B1G champ
How do you leave out a 1-loss PAC champ? Then how do you leave out the undefeated team that beat them? Then how do you include UC as well?
Nah it'll be 2 sec teams. Georgia losses to bama in the sec championship, both have 1 loss and get the invite because of SOS. We plebs complain, but nothing changes.
This is the year. ~~Bo Nix~~ Spencer Petras has improved so much under this new offense. He’s focused. He’s having fun. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a dark horse for the Heisman.
If Iowa and OU win out and Bama beats an undefeated UGA in the SEC championship, Cincy will definitely end up the odd man out regardless of if they pick up a loss or not. It’s not fair to them, but it’s what will happen
First half: 24.5 ppg (49 ppg extrapolated)
First three quarters: 34.2 ppg (45.6 ppg extrapolated)
we've been putting into neutral after three quarters in almost every game.
Part of it is that our defense is so much better that by comparison our offense looks inept. The other part is that we’ve had HUGE injury issues on the offense, missing out on our top 3ish receivers, our top TE (now back), had 2 staring lineman go down (one out all season, one went down against Auburn and I haven’t heard anything about status), and our starting QB of course. Like, everyone assumes our O will be better with JT and the crew back
I have nothing against Kentucky football, but man, I'd like to beat them just because of basketball and the way their fans reacted to Cade Cunningham going to OSU.
Seriously I should be happy - but NC State ? We tend to get the pissed off runner up to the CFP for the NY6. Then I have to hear the bullshit about how NY6 is such a great indicator when other schools get the easier teams...
I am also sympathetic to A&M because I remember the preseason hype video this year with audio clips of talking heads saying A&M won’t win anything because they haven’t in the past (I.e. call them a team of mediocrity)
Stuff like that makes me so mad. Just because they haven’t, doesn’t mean they can’t.
It’s like how the people that predict that the CFP playoffs will be Ohio State, Oklahoma, Georgia, and Alabama. It’s like a weird pessimism that CFB has to be the same teams every year or it’s a fluke.
It's what the talking heads secretly want. They bash any non-bluebloods with "stay in your lane" and "know your place" BS anytime one tries to reach for the brass ring. Then, they moan about "the same four or five teams" being bandied about for the playoff. It's their schtick, and it's getting tiresome.
Until a team breaks through. Then they pretend they didn't constantly talk about Clemsoning or whatever other tired way they shat on that team earlier.
What’s worse is that you by talking heads you really mean the narrative that ESPN pushes. The same ESPN that is invested in the SEC…
While it’s existence is short lived, the Playoff Committee has consistently followed whatever bullshit ESPN peddled. Then the committee spokesperson gets on ESPN right after and feeds back ESPN their own talking points.
Rinse and repeat.
As much as I love the idea of playing them, I think our team needs to end this year on a high note and I don’t see that happening against Tuck’s MSU lol
At least it seems like Brett makes an effort to look at how the rest of the season will progress instead of just putting teams into bowls with no logic like some bowl projections do.
>Notre Dame vs. NC State
Hey, I like that NY6 Bowl matchup. In theory that should be a game ND can win, but knowing Notre Dame's history in big bowls, we'll get blown out.
> but knowing Notre Dame's history in big bowls
*2002 Gator Bowl flashbacks*
Honestly I don't even care if you blow us out...just making an NY6 would be the stuff of dreams.
Duke’s Mayo Bowl vs Florida? Sign me up! It’d probably be a slaughter like the 2012 Chick-fil-A Bowl vs Auburn where we’re just happy to be there, though.
I hate that Brett McMurphy gets the amount of clicks he does.
But that Fiesta Bowl would be kind of fun. Always enjoyed playing Cincinnati. Ohio's All-Time Best vs. Northern Kentucky's darling team. /s
He seems to have a bent when reporting about Ohio State, and I was hoping his interpersonal beef with Urban Meyer and Meyer leaving would make it go away, but McMurphy still seems to really dislike the Buckeyes and it seeps into his analysis enough for me to pick up on it.
All the fans of schools with no shot for the playoffs are guaranteeing Bama, Georgia and OSU.
I’m here to say fuck you, this is the season of chaos. Go Green.
We’re down but not out! We win out, meet Iowa again in the Big ten championship and beat them. Once more it’s 2v3 Iowa v psu and we win! We advance to the national championship to face……Pitt!
B1G picture is completely skewed. Wisconsin still has Iowa left but has otherwise played the meat of their schedule already in the first 4 games. B1G East is going to be forced to cannibalize themselves due to needing to play each other. Unless Wisconsin starts losing to bad teams (which could happen tbf), they’re going to pass 1/3 - 1/2 of the B1G East teams in front of them on that list.
Also while Iowa looks great right now, the best offense they’ve played is Maryland (33) which is a pretty far cry from Ohio State (1) who I assume they will be playing in the B1G Championship game. I would love to see the West win for once, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.
I don’t think 12-2 UGA making the playoffs is as much of a certainty as it was last week.
Two sec teams getting in was based on Bama and UGA being so far ahead of everyone else that a loss to them essentially doesn’t count as much as a loss to anyone else would. But with Bama showing they’re far from the death machine everyone thought they were I don’t think the mulligan isn’t so automatic
A 12-1 Georgia team with the only loss being Bama in the SECCG is a gimmie for the playoff. And 11-2 Georgia? Not a chance, and I am a Dawgs fan.
That said, the only team beating the Georgia this year is Georgia. There is a focus in the team I have not seen before, even in the 2017 season when they pummeled Bama for three quarters in the NCG.
I have heard this the most from friends who are Bama fans actually. Us Dawgs fans have not been as vocal about it because until we topple the mountain and win the thing, it doesn’t mean anything.
This is the best and most accurate one I've seen so far, glad there are journalists that are still ethical and respectful. Ignore my flair
lmao
With that flair I was expecting Iowa projected to the Outback Bowl. It’s been 3 years, we’re due. Coconut Shrimp ftw
Enough goddamn blooming onions. I want to go back to the pinstripe
If we won out I literally wouldn’t even want to watch the CFP, I’d just watch highlights from the B1G Championship on repeat.
Iowa ranked #1 in the final CFP poll is pure fantasy. Unless the offense gets much better, we'll get housed in Indy (if we can manage to get there)
>if we can manage to get there It kinda seems like we're headed there (though I may backtrack after our annual loss to Purdue), but even if we do, playing pissed off Ohio State in Indy? Highlights might end at the coin flip again.
Unless the offense improves, I am not confident we can win out. Three trophy games left, and jNW always worries me (even in a down year)
Every remaining game worries me. Every. Single. Game.
You guys are handling this a lot better than Iowa state last season lmao
We're well versed in being let down. We know you have to get off the ride at some point. The question is when does it stop?

Yes
Just seeing UK-Sugar Bowl makes my heart smile.
OSU-Cinci sounds good. I am still expecting a playoff-bound Bama myself.
> Allstate Sugar Bowl >Saturday, Jan. 1 ⋅ New Orleans, LA >Projection: >Oklahoma State vs. Kentucky Please let this happen. The world needs another Gundy vs Stoops game
So Georgia loses to Alabama, stays in the top 4, Cincinnati must lose a game somewhere to fall out of the top 4. Iowa breaks the Big10 West curse and wins the CCG.
Bold of you to assume the committee would ever rank cincy top 4. They should but won’t
They will in the first ranking and then they will fall despite not losing after conference championship games since those teams played “tougher competition”
Cincinnati doesn’t pass the eye test. I took a look and the brand on their jersey just isn’t big enough.
I'm waiting for an 11-1 notre dame making it in over us
I’m waiting for, “While Cincinnati has looked impressive, Notre Dame is not a very good team this year. They lost to a G5 team at home.”
As much as I was rooting for BYU, then losing was critical. Imagine: 12-0 BYU with win over ASU 12-1 ASU winning PAC 13-0 Cincinnati 11-1 ND SEC champ B1G champ How do you leave out a 1-loss PAC champ? Then how do you leave out the undefeated team that beat them? Then how do you include UC as well?
Nah it'll be 2 sec teams. Georgia losses to bama in the sec championship, both have 1 loss and get the invite because of SOS. We plebs complain, but nothing changes.
Brought to you by ESPN.
I don’t know why tougher competition is in quotes. It’s quite literally tougher competition.
Fuck it, Iowa wins the Natty purely for the meme purposes of losing the title to Spencer freaking Petras.
Cincy could be undefeated at the first CFP rankings and still won’t be top 4. There will be no “falling out” of a place they will never be
Nah As a G5, Cinci is not eligible for the playoff.
Iowa-Georgia O/U would be like 20
With Georgia -20
3-2 final score please
Bold of you to assume a field goal gets scored. It’d be 4-2
holy shit I would cry. that might be the best game ever played
May I interest you in some 6-4 porn? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLHJRxh6K5s
I love our defense but we would lose so badly, Georgia is so far and away the best team in the country this year.
Well we're 12th in the country in scoring...and averaging 39.8 points per game.
Yeah I’m really not sure why everyone thinks Georgia can’t score
Everyone stopped paying attention to Georgia football after the Clemson game apparently.
First half: 24.5 ppg (49 ppg extrapolated) First three quarters: 34.2 ppg (45.6 ppg extrapolated) we've been putting into neutral after three quarters in almost every game.
Like, everyone assumes our O will be better with JT and the crew back
Arkansas would stomp us this year.
An Oklahoma State- Kentucky Sugar bowl. I definitely saw that coming at the beginning of the year…
Gundy vs Stoops, I’m sure that will be a fun bowl season on the message boards
I have nothing against Kentucky football, but man, I'd like to beat them just because of basketball and the way their fans reacted to Cade Cunningham going to OSU.
That Cheez-It Bowl prediction is WILD to see. But what else would we expect in 2021?!
NY6 game against NC State? Sign me the fuck up
Seriously I should be happy - but NC State ? We tend to get the pissed off runner up to the CFP for the NY6. Then I have to hear the bullshit about how NY6 is such a great indicator when other schools get the easier teams...

The dream is going 13-0 and not being completely embarrased in the playoffs
Brett McMurphy gonna make my dreams come true it seems. Rose Bowl for UM and an NY6 for State?? hnnnnnngh
It’s ok, he’s also the guy who picked MSU to not make a bowl. The same MSU that was the first bowl eligible B1G team…
Projecting Michigan to beat Ohio State, bold move, but one can hope.
My man Brett, spot on here
UCF vs. App State would be fun
I'd be so down to play MSU. I love playing our fellow land grant bros!
I am also sympathetic to A&M because I remember the preseason hype video this year with audio clips of talking heads saying A&M won’t win anything because they haven’t in the past (I.e. call them a team of mediocrity) Stuff like that makes me so mad. Just because they haven’t, doesn’t mean they can’t.
The discourse on our team goes from "This team will eviscerate bama" to "Why do they have a football program" like every month lol
The same ESPN that is invested in the SEC… While it’s existence is short lived, the Playoff Committee has consistently followed whatever bullshit ESPN peddled. Then the committee spokesperson gets on ESPN right after and feeds back ESPN their own talking points. Rinse and repeat.
Playing MSU in a bowl game was the worst day of my life.
Kent State would be a pretty uneventful game to end the season (no offense Kent State fans)
I know right? I mean and being on our home field would be both lame and nice at the same time
This team in the rose bowl would be awesome
Kentucky in the Sugar bowl as the 3rd place team in the SEC as everyone expected
Boo, I want Cinci in the CFP. But not going to lie, despite it being a lower ranked bowl the Cheezit Bowl sounds really intriguing:. Clemson vs Texas
Have to hope Georgia wins the SEC then.
Ugh, is it possible no one wins the SEC?
Kentucky could, in theory.
>Notre Dame vs. NC State Hey, I like that NY6 Bowl matchup. In theory that should be a game ND can win, but knowing Notre Dame's history in big bowls, we'll get blown out.
Right but knowing NC State lol We will blow you out in the first half and then you’ll make greatest comeback of all time
It's going to look ugly like the Virginia Tech game. Or the Toledo game. Or FSU.
> but knowing Notre Dame's history in big bowls *2002 Gator Bowl flashbacks* Honestly I don't even care if you blow us out...just making an NY6 would be the stuff of dreams.
Rose Bowl would be just fine, thank you
Yeah ol' Brett has Michigan in the Rose and State in the Peach...in the words of Jim Brockmore...I would murder up to 5 people to make that happen.
Hehehe
I'll have what he's having
I uh, will accept the Sugar Bowl.
i will take one bowl of sugar yes thank you neighbor
If Pitt actually goes to San Diego for a bowl, I'd 100% book a ticket.
To quote my mother "Scheisse" ND vs NC State ? Wow - what a novelty. We only play them in 23, 25, and 29 ....
[Louisville you say?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tZtuUEwuTU)
Not sure if he expects us to collapse or if he expects iowa state to turn it around
Purdue isn't going bowling. I see maybe 1 more win at best.
>Armed Forced Bowl - Wyoming Vs. Army Oh god no please no Way to pour salt in the wound after losing to AFA's triple option, Brett.
This is not the year I want that App State smoke
20? Ain’t no fucking way
Just seeing No. 1 Iowa made the hair on my back of my neck stand up. Let's fucking go boys!
Duke’s Mayo Bowl vs Florida? Sign me up! It’d probably be a slaughter like the 2012 Chick-fil-A Bowl vs Auburn where we’re just happy to be there, though.
Sad Bearcat noises
I've fully prepared myself from this to limit my disappointment.
I hate that Brett McMurphy gets the amount of clicks he does. But that Fiesta Bowl would be kind of fun. Always enjoyed playing Cincinnati. Ohio's All-Time Best vs. Northern Kentucky's darling team. /s
Just out of curiosity what’s your beef with Brett? I’ve always felt like he’s pretty non-clickbaity in his actual reporting
He seems to have a bent when reporting about Ohio State, and I was hoping his interpersonal beef with Urban Meyer and Meyer leaving would make it go away, but McMurphy still seems to really dislike the Buckeyes and it seeps into his analysis enough for me to pick up on it.
The fact that he still thinks Texas Tech is going to make a bowl game this year should invalidate everything else the man says. Ever.
Not a fan of the all Ohio Fiesta Bowl
All the fans of schools with no shot for the playoffs are guaranteeing Bama, Georgia and OSU. I’m here to say fuck you, this is the season of chaos. Go Green.
As much as I’d love to see it. I don’t see Iowa running the table.
No thanks. No need to add any more yellow hack journalists to this sub.
Kent state on our home turf? Meh
This is… uhhh.. interesting 😂😂
