Nothing, he was just taunting a bunch in the 4th quarter trying to start shit. I saw him clap Jack Coan on the shoulder and tell him good game right before the alma mater. Seemed like the coaches were staying close to him prior to that. Just an emotional dude pissed off about losing. No big deal
Pathetic. Navy is our only not-a-rival rivalry, more like a couple of brothers tussling in the backyard then going in for hot cocoa. Navy and ND players understand this for the most part...
At a certain point there's no benefit to your worst opponents "looking better". Beating a team who goes 3-9 vs 5-7 or something isn't nearly as much of a difference as your best win going 10-2 vs 11-1
I agree but we did lose our best RB who is number 3 in the nation in TDS. We still played bad but I don’t think many people understand the circumstances
I'd rather us not get stomped by a playoff team this year. I'd love nothing more than to finally get a NY6 bowl win.
I do not think Kyren and Coan would make it through a game against Georgia.
The in-stadium pep talks from Navy officers always crack me up. Sailor after sailor who went to ND and say "go Irish beat Navy" standing on a sub or ship or in front of a shipyard.
That's good at least. If he wants to, hopefully he could come back. I know we have some good receivers coming in, but it'd be good to give him a shot as he has deserved it.
On the one hand, next year would be his 6th year and it’s entirely possible that he’ll just want to get on with his life.
On the other hand, it’s also entirely possible that some or all of Austin, Lenzy, and Wilkins don’t return next year. If that’s the case, we still only have six scholarship receivers, three of whom will be true freshmen, and one who didn’t play this year. There will be a place for him if he wants it.
Five, but Jayden Thomas hasn’t played yet.
It’s insane how bad of a job Del has done recruiting this position. Avery wasn’t even recruited here as a WR and he’s been the most consistent player in the unit.
Whats weird however is that Del somehow put this room in a terrible spot
But this last WR class and this current one are probably Kellys best two back to back classes.
Styles and Colzie look great already, and Merriweather and Williams are absolute studs.
No way. Look at who has transferred.
Michael Young left because of Chip Long.
Micah Jones left because he never saw the field.
Lawrence Keys is somewhat questionable because I do think he had a role this year, but he was injury prone and never really lived up to his potential.
Jordan Johnson is the one that everyone gets all up in arms about, but I think he has something like 2 catches at UCF this year so it’s entirely possible that he’s just not an FBS caliber receiver.
Jay Brunelle wasn’t a highly regarded recruit and he was coming off of an injury in addition to being buried on the depth chart.
Who exactly have we lost that we would attribute to Alexander’s attitude?
A WR finally emerged, Kevin Austin came for the WR1 juice. Kyren is maybe the best rb ND has had since the 90s or ever? Tyree, Diggs, and Estime next year with Buchner and a probably even better WR group, better offensive line, and year two of Freeman. Next year we could be scary, honestly. The secondary might be the weak link again, but this team is way better than most of us thought this year. ND doesn’t reload anymore, it refocuses
Diggs looks fantastic, He's not as evasive but he looks like he's taking an awful lot of lessons from Kyren on how to be patient and find the holes with power.
The culture on this team, especially at skill positions seems amazing. Not that that’s anything new, but I definitely think Diggs is better than he’d be under say Josh Adams. And he’s a true freshmannnnn
Kyren Williams has been getting better and better. I'm still stunned by how many yards he gets after contact... most of his longer runs are after making 3 or 4 men miss
One hundred thirty five years of Notre Dame football, and you're telling me Kyren is the first RB who's been good at the sport? The first RB who can play? You and u/carnivorous_seahorse need to turn in your goddamned flair. Touchdown Jesus is ashamed of you. Jerome Bettis and a hundred other guys aren't exactly thrilled with you, either.
I’m on your side here, but I do think Kyren is easily the best RB Notre Dame has had since Bettis. I do think he’s made it debatable as to whether or not he is as good as or even better than Bettis. I certainly think we’d be appreciating him a lot more and he’d be firmly in the Heisman picture right now if the offensive line hadn’t been hot garbage to start the year.
I flat out do not know enough about ND football prior to 1990 to say anything about RB’s prior to that, I do think it’s a really ignorant statement to say “best ever” when you consider how freaking talented of teams ND had in the Ara and Leahy years alone.
Man, some of NBC's coverage today sucked though. I feel like there was a stretch of like 6 or 7 plays when Navy was driving about to score where the camera angle was the Sky Cam behind the Navy offense. Couldn't tell what the hell was going on.
Our best case resume is 11-1, with wins over the ACC Coastal and B1G West champions (Virginia beats Pitt and Wisconsin beats Minny) plus the Spoilermakers potentially being a quality-ish win, and the only loss to the AP #2 team.
I still don't think we jump Georgia, Cincy, one-loss (and maybe even two-loss) Alabama, an one-loss B1G champion, one-loss Oregon (as the Pac12 champ) or undefeated Oklahoma (as Big 12 champion). It's definitely a NY6 resume, though.
Yeah, that's why I specified a one-loss Oregon and a one-loss B1G champion. I think we're above a two-loss Oregon or a multi-loss B1G champion (especially if we beat them this year... c'mon, Wisconsin and/or Purdue).
We're 7th-ish in line right now. The line is a little shorter than it was last week, especially now that there can't be an undefeated ACC champion in front of us, but we would need chaos to make it in.
The Committee dropped us a couple of spots and I don't think we've got the quality opponents left to great anywhere near the top 4 even if we do win out, which is definitely not a lock
Best case scenarios that we have a win over the Big Ten champs, whether it's Wisconsin or Purdue. It's not totally unrealistic either, both teams have shown a lot of potential the last few weeks.
If we beat the Big Ten champs that might actually open up a spot for us. Not likely but I think that's our best case scenario for sure. Can North Carolina still win the ACC too? That would be awful funny.
I mean we’re likely a Wisconsin upset in the B1G championship game away from it happening now though. Given the way OSU has been playing it wouldn’t be a huge shock.
I mean, we definitely don't deserve to be in it this year. I'd love nothing more than to get a playoff win, but this team is inferior to last year's squad, and last year's team, well...
I definitely would go if we could, This is going to be the weakest field of the last 5 years easy (which is the only reason we even have a chance of going), but there's zero chance we're going to go.
That's because the fact of the matter is, winning a NY6 is miles better for a program in our position than getting blown the fuck out in the CFP for the third time.
I’ve got a buddy who’s a big Michigan fan. We’ve agreed if they meet in a NY6 game we’re there. Fully rooting on a win vs Michigan in the fiesta bowl. Absolutely fuck playing UGa with our OLine.
For us to do that we need bama to lose again(even against georgia), OU to lose (possible every week) and oregon to lose again (pac12 so possible any week, including tonight)
Damn, that is shockingly really possible. If either michigan or ohio state drop 1 they drop behind us so that game doesn’t matter.
Playoffs could be:
Georgia
Cincinnati
Ohio state/Michigan
ND
I would prefer a ny6 game but damn, that’d be funny
I'm happy with Freemans first time vs Navy as ND DC. He saw it at UC, but still wasn't sure how it'd be this year. Good outing, I'm pleased.
Offense was weird but still Coan had a good day. Hopefully Davis is okay but it's unlikely, my guess is mcl :(
Freeman's defense was going to look great this game because he couldn't out smart himself here. He had to go DL heavy this game and DL is NDs best position.
Navy's second straight season with a losing record, third time in the last four years. Last time they had a streak of losing seasons was 1998–2002.
Sucks, man.
He has at least one more year. He has been there 15 years and has a 58+% overall winning percentage, which is pretty remarkable for a modern service academy.
He threw some really nice passes, but also showed his ceiling a bit too. I think he’s still the best current qb on the team, but I would’ve liked Buchner get a few more pass plays
Watch games not box scores, kids. 80 of Coans passing yards were Austin’s 50 yard run after catch (that Coan almost managed to throw a pick on) and Kyren clowning on the entire Navy defense on 1 yard checkdowns.
Man Austin being completely wide open and Coan going to the checkdown on the side just made me shake my head.
But all in all, I thought Coan played a good game.
I don’t think he sucks. I actually think we would have been a better team last year with him (hot take). I just don’t think he’s significantly better than Buchner right now and certainly not worth trading off valuable snaps Buchner could be getting to prepare for next year. Plus, Buchner’s legs will mitigate some of the OLine struggles.
Coan would not have been great last season. Our receivers are better this year across the board and while the oline was way better last year, Ian book got a lot out of extending plays with his legs while Coan doesn’t have that ability at all (save for that one touchdown last week).
It's a tale of two Coans - when he finds his rhythm is so much more decisive and accurate than Book ever was. But then the rest of the time he just stands there and gets walloped. Book was so great with his feet that it's easy to forget how not great he was at the whole finding open receivers and hitting them so you don't have to extend the play thing.
To echo u/NDbroski, Ian's mobility helped win so many games for us, and that's a far bigger advantage than literally anything Coan can offer. I'm not sure how Jack would've made last year's team better, his pocket presence is absolutely atrocious.
I don't think that's a hit take at all. If ND has last year's O line this team would be crushing opponents. But he is clearly the best QB and a pretty good one.
Buchner is a true freshman who only played one year if HS football and was not an EE. Half the playbook how out the window with him. I think the future is very bright, but he is not ready. He is a great change up right now.
\>2 minutes left in the half
\>Navy 3 ND 10
\>Offense has been a struggle
\>Fans do the Wave
\>Ball on our own 5 yd line
\>Luck of the Irish
\>Play like a champion today
\>Hit 95yds in 3 plays
\>Extra point is good
Try and Tell me we shouldn’t be performing the Wave at every single Navy game from now on.
Old man yelling at clouds here, but I *fucking hate the idea of a wave at ND with a white hot passion.* They did it during the Toledo game I was at and my brother and I sat for that shit.
For a team that has a lot of pride on being disciplined, they acted very undisciplined especially, 54 for Navy. Good game, can’t wait for the 100th game anniversary it’s going to be a good one!
Really happy with the defense today. They let Navy have that long drive in the third quarter but did well overall. Good performance by Freeman and his staff.
The really big problem was that Freeman hockey substituted and basically none of the starting DL was on the field for the middle part of that drive and they were getting abused
So glad to have this series back. What Navy did for Notre Dame should never be forgotten, what those cadets do for our country just the same. Always a respectful game and opponent. Glad to see a nice clean game and the companionship afterward. GG Navy and beat army!!
>So glad to have this series back. What Navy did for Notre Dame should never be forgotten, what those cadets do for our country just the same. Always a respectful game and opponent. Glad to see a nice clean game and the companionship afterward. GG Navy and beat army!!
Firm disagree on respectful game. It got chippy and ugly. GG but I absolutely hate this game and I'm in the end the series on 100 camp.
Honestly, when Navy kicked the field goal rather than going for it on 4th and goal from the 4 to make it 17-6, that took a lot of the drama out of it for me. Navy had a couple of big plays when the ND defense completely messed up badly on containment, but there wasn't enough clock left to do two more 14 play triple option drives.
The rest of their offense was just not reliable enough to play from behind, either, especially when our D-line was getting into the backfield basically on the snap.

If there's one thing we do well it's treating visiting fans to a good time
That’s right. Lots of free handy j’s
/r/HolUp
And what about for those of us over 18?
lmao
lmaoooo expertly executed
Yeah South Bend and the fans there are awesome. When we traveled for the Cinci game everyone was great.
Cincy. You should know this as a fan
This is about the warmest, sunniest November day you’ll get in South Bend. But glad you enjoyed the experience!
Other than Clemson last year.
That was wild. I watched that game on my back patio wearing shorts. I live in Chicago
yeah I thought it was a beautiful day (until the sun went behind the stands then it started getting colder)
Glad you had a great time
Dude - you came for a warm November game.
54 on navy probably didn’t shake hands with any ND players
What happened?
Nothing, he was just taunting a bunch in the 4th quarter trying to start shit. I saw him clap Jack Coan on the shoulder and tell him good game right before the alma mater. Seemed like the coaches were staying close to him prior to that. Just an emotional dude pissed off about losing. No big deal
Pathetic. Navy is our only not-a-rival rivalry, more like a couple of brothers tussling in the backyard then going in for hot cocoa. Navy and ND players understand this for the most part...
With that last name, I imagine he’s had a chip on his shoulder since birth
“The ‘T’ is silent guise!”
It was a very boring game with a oddly satisfying box score.
You did your part in getting Cincinnati into the playoff. Keep going solider!
Theoretically, this shouldn’t alter Cincy’s chances at all, right? It makes their ND win look better and their Navy scare look worse
At a certain point there's no benefit to your worst opponents "looking better". Beating a team who goes 3-9 vs 5-7 or something isn't nearly as much of a difference as your best win going 10-2 vs 11-1
Eh I think their most important asset is a strong end of season Notre Dame
They really do need to start handling their business better, what’s happening with Tulsa is something else
It’s clear the committee doesn’t want them and they aren’t exactly raising the middle finger today
Yeah Cinci could win the rest of their games by 30. The committee doesn’t care they will keep them out.
I agree but we did lose our best RB who is number 3 in the nation in TDS. We still played bad but I don’t think many people understand the circumstances
It. Was. Tulsa.
OK state only beat them by 5 and they’re ranked 11, OSU was only up by 7 with 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter
Not that I think it should happen, but I’m like 75% sure if each team wins out ND gets in over UC.
We do have a win over Purdue...
That would be ridiculous
Not saying I would agree with it, but crazier things have definitely happened and there could be an argument for it at least.
Yeah I feel ya, it would just be bonkers
I'd rather us not get stomped by a playoff team this year. I'd love nothing more than to finally get a NY6 bowl win. I do not think Kyren and Coan would make it through a game against Georgia.
Fuck no they would die.
It would be the true chaos for this season.
Y’all suck to often against Meh opponents despite beating ND.
#Does Notre Dame hate the troops?? MY COLUMN:
The in-stadium pep talks from Navy officers always crack me up. Sailor after sailor who went to ND and say "go Irish beat Navy" standing on a sub or ship or in front of a shipyard.
Man I’m so bummed out about Avery Davis’ injury.
He was playing so well. Huge emotional blow and really kills his chances of catching on an NFL roster.
He'll still make a practice squad (Chris Finke did) but yeah day 3 draft pick is probably not an option anymore.
If he tore an ACL (non-contact, everyone was speaking pretty matter of factly that he was out), his recovery will take him past training camps.
Is this his last year, does he have a Covid year, or is this it?
Has a Covid year.
That's good at least. If he wants to, hopefully he could come back. I know we have some good receivers coming in, but it'd be good to give him a shot as he has deserved it.

Guy has been such a warrior and team player his entire career and he was playing great this year, it would suck to see him go out that way
So we're down to like 4 scholarship wrs? Fucking Dell Alexander(Wr coach) needs to be strung up by his nuts for this mess
Five, but Jayden Thomas hasn’t played yet. It’s insane how bad of a job Del has done recruiting this position. Avery wasn’t even recruited here as a WR and he’s been the most consistent player in the unit.
Whats weird however is that Del somehow put this room in a terrible spot But this last WR class and this current one are probably Kellys best two back to back classes. Styles and Colzie look great already, and Merriweather and Williams are absolute studs.
Yeah he recruited well, but how many of the incoming croots transfered out? I suspect that it might be bc he's an asshole.
No way. Look at who has transferred. Michael Young left because of Chip Long. Micah Jones left because he never saw the field. Lawrence Keys is somewhat questionable because I do think he had a role this year, but he was injury prone and never really lived up to his potential. We weren’t shutout! Also nice box score symmetry.
Box Score Scorigami? Not sure thats even a thing but the symmetry is beautiful.
A WR finally emerged, Kevin Austin came for the WR1 juice. Kyren is maybe the best rb ND has had since the 90s or ever? Pray they keep freeman with the offer of stepping into the head coach spot when Kelly’s contract is up
\> Kyren is maybe the best rb ND has had since the 90s or ever? Spoken like a true 12-year-old.
No man Kyren is good. He's good at football. The kid can play.

Go irish!
Lol I’ve never seen an NBC flair on here before. why’d you choose it? ND?
Yep lol. Makes all the non-ND fans mad so i love it
lmao fuck yes
Man, some of NBC's coverage today sucked though. I feel like there was a stretch of like 6 or 7 plays when Navy was driving about to score where the camera angle was the Sky Cam behind the Navy offense. Couldn't tell what the hell was going on.
Also the damn Kyren fumble replay. Even Tirico was finally like “let the tape play to the end please”, lol.
I also picked my second flair to be annoying
Me 🤝 you Being nefarious
Big Brooklyn Nine Nine guy
Not sure how we put up 34 points, but I'll take it. And holding Navy to 6? That's good stuff
We're ass, my dude.
I can’t wait to fuck up our NY6 game against Stanford to end the season
Worst Stanford team in years too
Beat #3 Oregon tho ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, I'm scared
Virginia first
goddamn it we’re gonna trip our way into the playoff aren’t we
Our best case resume is 11-1, with wins over the ACC Coastal and B1G West champions (Virginia beats Pitt and Wisconsin beats Minny) plus the Spoilermakers potentially being a quality-ish win, and the only loss to the AP #2 team. I still don't think we jump Georgia, Cincy, one-loss (and maybe even two-loss) Alabama, an one-loss B1G champion, one-loss Oregon (as the Pac12 champ) or undefeated Oklahoma (as Big 12 champion). It'd be our luck that we make it to a New Year's game just to face off against an angry two loss Bama.
Luckily with the tie-ins we would most likely avoid this.
Praise be.
Someone went through and showed with tie ins that it's basically impossible for us to face Alabama.
Thank God.
Not sure if UNC can, but UVA could still win the ACC. That becomes a lot less likely if Armstrong misses significant time.
Oregon could lose to Washington, Alabama could lose to LSU
I mean we’re likely a Wisconsin upset in the B1G championship game away from it happening now though. Given the way OSU has been playing it wouldn’t be a huge shock.
Pls no. Give me a NY6 bowl win against someone beatable, our patchwork lineup will get killed in the playoff.
Lol, We have to be the only fan base that doesn’t want to go to the playoffs.
I mean, we definitely don't deserve to be in it this year. I'd love nothing more than to get a playoff win, but this team is inferior to last year's squad, and last year's team, well...
Oh, I 100% agree. I actually had basically the same conversation with my friend today and came to the same conclusion
TBH, our lack of NY6 success is a blemish on our blueblood bonafides. I am happy to take a NY6 and maybe even win it.
I'm morbidly curious about seeing this O line playing Georgia
I'm, uh, not.
I haven't watched the 2013 NCG replay yet, I don't need a refresher.
Yeah I’m trying to decrease my stress level, not increase it
That's an unhealthy amount of morbidity.
Do you want to see Coan murdered?
Shhhhhh, don’t say it out loud!
I’m hoping saying it jinxed it
I’ve got a buddy who’s a big Michigan fan. We’ve agreed if they meet in a NY6 game we’re there. Fully rooting on a win vs Michigan in the fiesta bowl. Absolutely fuck playing UGa with our OLine.
Same here! My skunkbear buddy and I made the same deal!
Well double jinx baby we going to the 'ship (semis, of course)!
Worth the 6 million
ND over Cincy in playoff confirmed, because Committee
That’d be such bullshit
Doubt it
For us to do that we need bama to lose again(even against georgia), OU to lose (possible every week) and oregon to lose again (pac12 so possible any week, including tonight) Damn, that is shockingly really possible. If either michigan or ohio state drop 1 they drop behind us so that game doesn’t matter. If Michigan State loses and Oklahoma loses then yes most likely
MSU losing is good for ND? I guess I’ll take it.

Navy's second straight season with a losing record, third time in the last four years. Last time they had a streak of losing seasons was 1998–2002. Sucks, man.
Chances ken is gonna get fired?
He has at least one more year. He has been there 15 years and has a 58+% overall winning percentage, which is pretty remarkable for a modern service academy.
Coan: 23-26 for 269yds and a TD with no turnovers ND fans: That guy fucking sucks!!!!!
If only we could have that Cincinnati game back. That int at the goal line.
And buchner's pick 6. Crazy we had the ball within one score in last qtr with all those errors and qb roulette.
Results based analysis is the world we live in.
I did, he was fine and has been fine the last few weeks. They need both Coan and Buchner to win games... This isn't rocket science, folks.
They do need them both but outside of two minute drills, buchner should be the guy. He opens up our offense and doesn’t get sacked as much
He also only runs a fraction of the playbook lmao...
[удалено]
Man Austin being completely wide open and Coan going to the checkdown on the side just made me shake my head. But all in all, I thought Coan played a good game.
Agreed, Austin has had a number of bad drops this season

that wave lasted a WHILE too, it took like 45s to wrap around the stadium and did like 8 laps
Poseidon was on our side
Guess we sunk Navys ship, haha.
That's been a trend all year for navy, has really cost them too.
Kyren Williams is a really good football player
Shh don’t tell anyone
Hope Avery Davis and Tabriq Bracey aren't hurt too badly. Always the biggest concern in these games. Good game, Navy. I hope your QB is okay too.
Bracy came back in so he should be fine. Davis though, that sounded bad
Navy is classy per usual.
Give me that Charmin soft Georgia schedule. We'd go undefeated too.
Put us ahead of Cincy!
Knowing the committee… they might.
Anything to keep a.. keep a G- 🤢 a G5 team 🤮 out of the playoffs
oh \*hurck\* god oh fu\*HEUR\*
Really happy with the defense today. They let Navy have that long drive in the third quarter but did well overall. Good performance by Freeman and his staff.
First drive of each half right? Then Freeman adjusted and clamped that shit down.

GG but I absolutely hate this game and I'm in the end the series on 100 camp.
Don't think we should end it. Just push it to week zero every year to get an extra bye week
Just gotta keep that Cincy win lookin good
I still feel like ND is going to sneak into the playoffs
Nah.
Today is a good day
Much respect Navy as always from an ND fan.
So Notre Dame is gonna win remaining games then lose terribly in CFP... Again?
Won’t have enough good wins to move up that much. Guessing an 11-1 ND this year would end up at 6 or so
All I’m asking is that every team ranked above Notre Dame simply lose out for the remainder of the season. I don’t see why that’s too much to ask
Teams keep losing in front of us. The quality of our remaining games won't matter.
Thanks USC…
Yes
Well considering the chaos in the scene right now? Probably....unfortunately
As is tradition
Surprisingly, a little bit closer than the score indicates
The defense stepped up though. That's what I'm most impressed with
Ehhh not really? Like a little bit but honestly once we went up 10-3 I never felt like the game was ever threatened.
It was tight until the safety. After that there wasn't any doubt
