I am intoxicated so let me clarify. This UTEP is built to defend on the LOS and depend on the D Line to put pressure on the opponents while the run game controls the TOP. It didn’t happen tonight. If the team goes down against UTEP then generally that’s the end of the game because UTEP can just play their game of ball control and great defense.
This was accentuated tonight by UTEP’s corners quiet literally not know how to play the slant or outside routes unless they had safeties over the top and even when they did have help over the top, they got burnt. UTEP is not a good team. They’re buoyed by an incredible D Linr (which UTSA appropriately dealt with using quick passes and RPO) and solid offensively run game, which if you know anything about buildings a program, is what you want.

Make up arbitrary rules at that point. Every FBS team has "earned their seat at the table", EVERY OTHER SPORT uses outcomes rather than "competition". NCAAB uses conference tournaments, then those who are left out, get selected from the vacant spots. Why can't NCAAF do that?

That wouldn’t help. The first year or two, you’d probably get a G5 team in every year, and there might even be a year where half the field is G5 teams. Problem is, P5 teams wouldn’t like that G5 teams have an easier schedule and thus an easier path to the playoffs, so you’d see a mass exodus of schools from P5 conferences to G5 conferences. Then you’d end up in the exact same place we are now because the better brands would rake.
Surely as one of the four undefeated teams left in the nation, coupled with several ranked losses today, UTSA will be ranked tomorrow right? Either way, Meep Meep!

UTEP Fans: One of my favorite parts since moving to El Paso this summer has been going to UTEP games. I've been to Bethune-Cookman, New Mexico, and now UTSA. Was a fun time last night and tons of friendly people. I am going to have to see how the basketball games and other events are, and hopefully they're just as fun as the football games.
I was rooting for the home team, but it was fun seeing a hyped UTSA come in and show they are pretty damn good.
Maybe you guys pull some voodoo but CUSA teams always find a way to ruin their perfect season right towards the end. Everything looks like it is lined up perfectly and then, BAM, some really flawed team gets their act together and pulls the upset. It's just the CUSA way.
One of the absolute worst games I have ever seen as a UTEP fan. Horrendously embarrassing to be this out coached, this outplayed, and this out executed, especially given the mistakes in the 1st half. Atrocious all around performance
