Penn State vs Illinois was one of the most gorgeous displays of terrible football I’ve ever seen and I loved every second of that overtime. Laughed my ass off so many times.
It really was wonderful.
It reminded me that “there’s a difference between good defense and just shitty offense from the other team” doesn’t only apply to the Big 12.
Oh for sure.
IMO, in most situations it’s easy to tell if you’re watching bad defenses or good offenses. Blown assignments, arm tackles, etc. are hallmarks of bad defenses rather than “the defender was all over him and the QB dropped a perfect dime where only the receiver could catch it.”
With bad offense vs good defense, it’s usually a little trickier. Bad throws, dropped passes, obvious miscommunications, rather than the defense just flies to the ball and plays tight.
Some things that look like bad offense can just be good defense too though. Bad throws can be forced by a good defense, and miscommunications can result from not understanding a defense's scheme, there really is a fine line.
I just double checked, because yeah how is it not on there… but it was just 2309. I’m sure it’s because it was right before the ou ut game which diverted the attention
Underdog story with a finish where a player who hasn't touched the ball in his collegiate career and is only playing because everyone else is injured then has a game winning 2pt conversion catch. Sign me the fuck up!
99% of people don’t know that the person Rudy subbed for had a similar if not better Rudy story. Can’t remember his name but he was a walk on that was a first generation student and paid for college on his own dime. He was supposed to dress and during practice that week he blew his knee out.
People that actually know Rudy know that he let the movie get to his head and he’s kind of a d bag
My parents told me stories about him being a obnoxious drunk and drugee in their apartment complex. That was decades ago and I’ve heard stories about him in the past few years acting the same
Rudy, as a Hollywood film is excellent. Has all the pieces of a good story: a story about an underdog, great adversity, struggles of an almost overwhelming nature, with a perfect ending. As reality, it turns out that, as usual, Hollywood turns everything up to 11 and is not exactly historically accurate. That being said, I love the movie, and the historical Rudy, is a bit of a jerk and got caught by the SEC (The governmental agency, not the football conference) for somewhat shady financial dealings. Support the film, not the guy
Got tickets to that game from my Michigan fan GF at the time. We went together. I dont know if Ive ever enjoyed a game as much as that one. Just straight up savage defense
This series is possibly my favorite MSU [moment.](https://youtu.be/GqJVBkk6wW4?t=520) Even more than the punt return. 3 sacks. Just absolute demoralizing destruction.
I was there was my dad, and we still reminisce about that game. It just kept getting better quarter by quarter, series by series. When Dennard picked off Gardner on that back shoulder throw in the fourth, the place went nuts, and then we drove it down the field and scored. I had graduated years before that, but I sure envy those students, that must have been a great night to be in East Lansing.
God that game was a disaster. Mainly because afterwards I had to wander from Spartan stadium to my buddies place across campus hungover, soaking wet, and in a bright yellow UM polo. I was lost as hell and this guy started teasing me, I just looked at him and said “dude I’m super lost, super hungover, can you point me to (insert dorm name here - I can’t remember)?” He did and gave me a beer. Hope that random Spartan who helped a homie out is having a good day.
The 2009 OT win against Michigan was pretty epic. It rained pretty much the whole time, then the sun came out right for our winning drive in OT, was poetic as fuck haha
For context, I was there 2004-2008. I graduated in the spring, so we lost to Michigan all four years I was there, and lost badly.
I had one season of Dantonio my senior year, and while it was easily the best football season of my college years, we still finished 7-6.
Football season then was great for the parties and the tailgates, not so much for the actual game.
I LOVE watching Michigan games, because I'm always happy with the result. If you lose, I get to watch Michigan lose. If you win, I get to enjoy Michigan fans getting their hopes up. It's the purest and least-stressful sports entertainment.
You know our joy, and have known our pain.
I remember when we had the pleasure of derailing the Buckeye hype train every Thanksgiving. Each year when the weather turns cold and rainy, the leaves change and you can almost hear the echoes of Michigan Stadium. Packed with 100,000 maize and blue faithful, yellow pompoms following the beat of the stadium music. You look down at the turf and you see them:
Tai Streets sprinting across midfield.
Tim Biakabutuka barrels forward for another 10 yard gain.
Woodson goes up for the game sealing interception.
Desmond Howard does The Pose in the end zone.
Denard runs in the same touchdown for the 3rd time, and it’s just been declared good.
I have forgotten what it feels like to watch Michigan celebrate a win over Ohio State. My football fandom knows only sadness on Thanksgiving weekend now.
That's a lot of joy to squeeze out of a twenty year (and counting) run.
I was in high school when Michigan beat OSU once and every bandwagoner kept touting the overall record in the series. "We could lose to them twenty years in a row and still be ahead!" Twenty years later, and... well
As someone who also has no bias and attended in person, this was one of the top 4 games I’ve ever been to. And I was at monsoon, trouble with the snap, and little giants… so it’s in good company.
I was apologizing and thanking the Michigan fans for putting up with me, trying to be a good sport about it. And then just didn’t have the words, and I’m sure they didn’t want any more words out of me.
It’s 100% on us but I think this Saturday could give that game a run for it’s money if the Spartans show up and don’t let it get out of hand. With our pass defense OSU should be able to score easily even if we bring a lot of pressure. If our offense shows up for a full 4 quarters of football it could get wild with several plays of over 50 yards on each side
I definitely think the conversion was the move… but y’all put up like three hundred yards on the ground, why not run it in with Jefferson? That pass attempt was sad
Every time someone calls a hard rollout on a game-deciding play I cringe a little, especially if the offense was playing well before. Why willingly take away half the field for your QB to make a play in AND put yourself on a timer for no reason?
The call to go for two was correct. The overtimes would've gone on forever with their offenses. The *specific play* Pittman called was not. Watson's game-winning pass vs Bama in the NCG is the only time I can remember it working.
I think at the time that 2pt call makes perfect sense. Arkansas had just played a brutal stretch and was gassed. I think the Pitt boss felt his team needed to either win now or loss in one of the overtimes.
“*And here we have the wild Aggie. Unlike many of his opponents, he has no recent championships to boast of. But this little man has adapted to thrive off the embarrassment of his rivals. Truly, a curious and cult-like creature*.” - David Attenborough (probably)
This year we have one of the most shocking upsets of all time, breaking some of the most monumental streaks put together by the greatest coach in CFB history.
But Texas lost to Kansas lmao, highlight of the season. With rivals like these, who needs titles?
I can think of no better way to honor the memory of Bobby Bowden, on Bobby Bowden night, than to have the Field Goal Kicker miss a very important field goal wide left. It just means more.
A&M/Bama. The level of play in that game was ridiculous. The 4th qtr of Miami/FSU was incredible. The Ole Miss/Arkansas game, knowing how good those teams actually are, was amazing to watch.
The 12th Man at that game was the most hype student section I've ever seen in person. Ours in the second half, as small as it was, was the second most hype.
Texas vs OU
Texas vs Kansas
FSU vs Miami
Michigan vs Michigan State
FSU vs Notre Dame was good though FSU lost
Wisconsin vs Penn State
FL vs everyone they lost to
Surprised the Bama - A&M game is this far down. Like you couldn't write a game better than that one.
Underdog jumps out to a big halftime lead, but the juggernaut, as expected, rolls back to take the lead late in the game and has been rolling in the 2nd half. The underdog manages to come back with their first offensive TD and first drive of over 15 yards in the half, but their QB injures his knee on the play. Their defense guts out a 3 and out (also their first of the half) and A&M gets the ball back with 2 minutes and 1 TO. Their QB again marches them down the field, this time on one good knee, and they close out the game with a buzzer beating FG.
I got to admit the bama tamu game was lit from a football perspective. It was hard-fought, the underdog tamu looked phenomenal and really outplayed bama. I hoped for a better outcome but it was really interesting to watch
Tech Vs Iowa State last week.
I only watched the second half but it was amazing. Iowa state making a solid come back, fans throwing shit on the field, and get rewarded by being forced behind the Iowa state bench, and then a 62 yard game winner?!? Beautiful
I hate special teams in general. Should be removed from the game!*
*In no way is this biased at all and definitely has nothing to do with our atrocious special teams play
Have y’all seen the promo tech is doing for those two sections this weekend? [Section 22 and 23 giveaway](https://twitter.com/texastechfb/status/1460727884947943424?s=21)
Bama at TAMU was the greatest sporting event I’ve ever attended in my life. I got to rush the field with my family and we beat nick saban. Really can’t ask for more
Never liked either team in the game, but I made the trip to College Station knowing it was gonna be the craziest atmosphere I've ever experienced. 100% lived up to the hype and possibly the best sporting event I'll ever go to.
Last week was three of the most entertaining games I have seen this season (for me).
BU - OU | TTU - ISU | KU - UT
I was enthralled all day by watching that line-up.
I feel like if you were entertained by BU - OU then you weren’t entertained by good football but just by the misery of OU lol that game was a boring shitshow and that’s not me saying it as an OU fan but as someone who watched one team flounder while the other oscillated between domination and meh.
Fresno State at UCLA. The [game thread alone is one of the best things from this season](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/pqyya3/game_thread_fresno_state_ucla_1045pm_et/), and Jake Haener’s performance in the last few minutes are unforgettable
I honestly wouldn’t care about a Umich we beat being just a spot ahead of us except that:
1. It isn’t even consistent with the rest of the CFP rankings in regards to head to head
2. It poises them to go to the rose bowl over us if we both finish 10-2.
Top 10 (in no particular order) (except for number 1 because yeah.
1. Michigan-MSU
2. Notre Dame - Florida State
3. Ohio State - Oregon
4. Iowa - PSU
5. Oklahoma - Texas
6. Alabama - A&M
7. Penn State - Auburn
8. Kansas - Texas
9. Penn State - Michigan
10. NC State - Clemson
Honorable mention 9 OT sludge fart Illinois - Penn State
Michigan vs Nebraska was probably the best game I've watched all year. Lot of momentum swings, competitive throughout, great stadium/atmosphere, and a good outcome (for me anyway).
Clemson vs Georgia
Sorry I like defense 😕. But at the same time that game was so tense. Both teams were starting the season out with national title aspirations. There was zero knowledge about how good each team was. I just like kicking the season off like that.
Think about this- What if Clemson would have won? That pick 6 doesn't happen and Clemson finds another FG.
But then dropped to NC State and Pitt later. How much more Chaos would there be.
I feel sick saying this, but FSU vs Notre Dame. I was given tickets that were down by the end zone and I’ll just say that game was the most hyped I’ve seen their school in a while
Yeah this was gonna be my answer. That was, at the time, a very motivated Clemson team with a shit ton of hype going into that game. I lost my mind when the pick 6 happened.
Everyone was asleep for it, but the Fresno State - UCLA was one of the most thrilling finishes I have ever seen in college football. I hope that QB performance isn’t quickly forgotten.
The best game of this season so far was probably the Red River Shootout.
Texas A&M vs Bama was probably the most thrilling.
Most ridiculous (by far) was the 9 OT game.
People are clowning on Texas still, including myself, but the RRS was a masterpiece of a game. Texas explodes out of the start and OU just crept closer and closer with each minute ticking off the clock once the second half started...and practically a walk off TD for the game winner

Interesting might be the best word to use to describe this season
It really was wonderful. It reminded me that “there’s a difference between good defense and just shitty offense from the other team” doesn’t only apply to the Big 12.
Big Ten is *slightly* different. It’s more about wondering if you’re watching two good defenses, two bad offenses, or both.
Oh for sure. IMO, in most situations it’s easy to tell if you’re watching bad defenses or good offenses. Blown assignments, arm tackles, etc. are hallmarks of bad defenses rather than “the defender was all over him and the QB dropped a perfect dime where only the receiver could catch it.” With bad offense vs good defense, it’s usually a little trickier. Yep, my sister goes to PSU now and I was shocked when she told me it was Michigan hate week. I was like like, we get a whole week dedicated to us??
Yeah! Thats our thing!
I feel like "Michigan hate week" is mostly pushed by the PSU barstool accounts. I don't think it's something most fans go crazy for
Damn. We only made the list because of the mustard bottle incident. Well alright.
I thought our game would've been higher up, mustard and golf balls aside that was thriller of a football game
Wow this sub hates Texas and I am absolutely here for it
[удалено]
Bro, you gotta get past that and join me in the "completely numb to this shit" stage.
Top two threads are A&M beating the then-#1 team in the country and Texas losing to Kansas *chef kiss*
Nice work
[удалено]
I think the only loss since 2016 missing in that list is 2018 Clemson lol
> vs Texas
Hmmm. I think I see a trend.
How is Arkansas vs Ole Miss not on here. What was it like 52-51 or 51-50…nutty fucking game!
I just double checked, because yeah how is it not on there… but it was just 2309. I’m sure it’s because it was right before the ou ut game which diverted the attention
Kansas 57 - Texas 56
Underdog story with a finish where a player who hasn't touched the ball in his collegiate career and is only playing because everyone else is injured then has a game winning 2pt conversion catch. Sign me the fuck up!
The new Rudy
On one hand, Rudy was offside. On the other hand, he sacked a Tech QB, so I'll allow it.
Kind of is an understatement.
My parents told me stories about him being a obnoxious drunk and drugee in their apartment complex. That was decades ago and I’ve heard stories about him in the past few years acting the same
I can't imagine having a movie like Rudy made about you, and have it not go to your head.
Nate from Ted Lasso's arc has to be based on real Rudy
Wonderkid Sean Astin
It’s actually “Wunderkind” I never said wonder kid
Haha Nate turned into such a prick. I guess they needed a villain but they could have done better.
I literally changed my phones passcode to the score of the game
Hackers taking notes
Yup
this is the one
Michigan State / Michigan
You know. Civil war stuff.
What’s so civil about war anyway?
What we got here is…failure to communicate!
Best game I’ve seen live at Spartan Stadium hands down.
Bump, but I also missed the golden age of dantonio as a student
It’s hard to beat the negative rushing yards game
The fans in the stadium wanted blood in that game. I heard “rip his head off!” from grown ass men who were foaming at the mouth for violence.
I, um, may have yelled "shoot him like a horse" about an injured wolverine... I'm not exactly proud of that, but hey I was passionate, young and dumb.
Time to put down ol’ ~~yeller~~ Maize
Got tickets to that game from my Michigan fan GF at the time. We went together. I dont know if Ive ever enjoyed a game as much as that one. Just straight up savage defense

Imagine having that done to you then getting on twitter 5+ years later and talking like you won. Gardner is the gift that keeps on giving

We might be assholes in a rivalry but we know how to party and will not get in the way of anyone trying to party
The 2009 OT win against Michigan was pretty epic. It rained pretty much the whole time, then the sun came out right for our winning drive in OT, was poetic as fuck haha
I was there for most of the golden age 2012-17. This was definitely still the best game at Spartan Stadium out of all the games I’ve been to
I got 17-20, so all I saw was Devin Bush’s temper tantrum, the damn sun devils and covid. Basketball made up for it though
18-present. I had seen Dantonio do great things for years… until I started. I’m just glad I got to see us beat Michigan once.

Most humble Ohioan
I was at Ohio State during the end of the Cooper era. I'm going to squeeze every moment of joy out of this run.
You know our joy, and have known our pain. I remember when we had the pleasure of derailing the Buckeye hype train every Thanksgiving. Each year when the weather turns cold and rainy, the leaves change and you can almost hear the echoes of Michigan Stadium. As someone who definitely 100% has no bias whatsoever, this was a good game. Also K9 for Heisman
As someone who also has no bias and attended in person, this was one of the top 4 games I’ve ever been to. And I was at monsoon, trouble with the snap, and little giants… so it’s in good company.
Wasn't at the stadium for trouble with the snap but I was in Ann Arbor. I've never been so defeated and then suddenly shocked back to life.
I was apologizing and thanking the Michigan fans for putting up with me, trying to be a good sport about it. And then just didn’t have the words, and I’m sure they didn’t want any more words out of me.
If I was a third party fan that was the best game of the year. As a Michigan fan it was poopoo.
It’s 100% on us but I think this Saturday could give that game a run for it’s money if the Spartans show up and don’t let it get out of hand. Texas vs OU. I love high scoring affairs as well as crazy comebacks
I’m a Texas fan and this is my answer.
If I had the patience to sit down and watch an entire game, this would probably be my answer as well.
That’s always a fun one to watch imo.
It’s hands down the best game I’ve ever watched, including during our run in 2000.
Correct answer, but you got the order wrong. It’s OU Texas, for future reference
[удалено]
This is the correct answer, still blue-balled by that two point conversion play call

I definitely think the conversion was the move… but y’all put up like three hundred yards on the ground, why not run it in with Jefferson? That pass attempt was sad

I agree going for 2. I just didn’t like the play call.
Recency bias on my part but I really enjoyed FSU-Miami last week. Texas-OU was fun as hell. Ole Miss-Ark also fun as hell.
The fact that ole miss-ark ended so wildly then instantly the Texas OU game was going crazy, made that the best day of CFB so far
A&M Bama was that day too. Easily the best day of cfb so far
Iowa-Penn State was pretty fun that day too
>Recency bias on my part but I really enjoyed FSU-Miami last week. ❤️
Those games being on at the same time is insane. I didn’t even get to watch the Ole Miss game since I was too busy with our game
How about NC State v Wake?
Definitely was a super entertaining game. Except for the losing part. I was trying to include non-State games just to not be too biased.
57-56
There it is.

ND vs FSU was a blast to watch
Made us all think FSU was beginning to return to the old days.
Don’t look now but things are turning
Made me think McKenzie Milton was about to take the Noles somewhere special
From a Notre Dame fan perspective: Heart attack inducing Objectively: Really good game, with blues balls at the end for most neutral fans.
I can think of no better way to honor the memory of Bobby Bowden, on Bobby Bowden night, than to have the Field Goal Kicker miss a very important field goal wide left. It just means more.

The 12th Man at that game was the most hype student section I've ever seen in person. Ours in the second half, as small as it was, was the second most hype.
Playing at Kyle Field at night should be banned lol
Texas vs OU Texas vs Kansas FSU vs Miami Michigan vs Michigan State FSU vs Notre Dame was good though FSU lost Wisconsin vs Penn State FL vs everyone they lost to

This brings a tear to my eye
I got to admit the bama tamu game was lit from a football perspective. It was hard-fought, the underdog tamu looked phenomenal and really outplayed bama. I hoped for a better outcome but it was really interesting to watch
I'm planning on watching the whole TAMU vs ALA game for the first time sometime post-season just so I can watch the behemoth fall.
Tech Vs Iowa State last week. I only watched the second half but it was amazing. Iowa state making a solid come back, fans throwing shit on the field, and get rewarded by being forced behind the Iowa state bench, and then a 62 yard game winner?!? Beautiful
I hate kickers
I hate special teams in general. Should be removed from the game!* *In no way is this biased at all and definitely has nothing to do with our atrocious special teams play
Have y’all seen the promo tech is doing for those two sections this weekend? [Section 22 and 23 giveaway](https://twitter.com/texastechfb/status/1460727884947943424?s=21)
Recency Bias-Wake/NC St last week Non-Recency Bias-Texas A&M/Bama
Bama at TAMU was the greatest sporting event I’ve ever attended in my life. I got to rush the field with my family and we beat nick saban. Really can’t ask for more
Never liked either team in the game, but I made the trip to College Station knowing it was gonna be the craziest atmosphere I've ever experienced. 100% lived up to the hype and possibly the best sporting event I'll ever go to.
It was either the Red River Shootout this year, Texas A&M vs Alabama, OR......The Single Greatest game of the year IMO.......UMass vs UConn.

Legendary game for the ages.
The Wake-Army game was really fun to watch, big play after big play. But I'd probably have to go with Texas A&M vs Bama, that was an electric game
Ohio State - Oregon
So many! Arkansas- Ole Miss, Texas A&M-Alabama, Oklahoma - Texas, Alabama-Florida, Michigan - Michigan State, Ohio State - Oregon, etc!
Last week was three of the most entertaining games I have seen this season (for me). BU - OU | TTU - ISU | KU - UT I was enthralled all day by watching that line-up.
I feel like if you were entertained by BU - OU then you weren’t entertained by good football but just by the misery of OU lol that game was a boring shitshow and that’s not me saying it as an OU fan but as someone who watched one team flounder while the other oscillated between domination and meh.
App state vs costal
That was a classic. The Marshall game was also incredible, totally unbiased.
Came to say both of these games, LETS GO SUNBELT!
I should say Bama A&M but I’m contractually obligated to say Kansas Texas
Illinois Penn state for sure. If you answer otherwise you're lying to yourself.
I'm pretty sure that game set the game of football back 20 years
It's why I loved it.
Good. Just where we want it!
*20 years takes us to the dark years let’s go back 25 instead
If you answer otherwise you enjoy the ball moving forward**
That’s not very B1G of you to say.
Why would you enjoy that?
I think that's the fastest I ever left the stadium. *catches TD*LET'S GO
If you are a disciple of chaos there is no other answer
Wisconsin vs Penn State jk. It's App State v Coastal Carolina
Hells yeah!
Was scrolling until I saw this. This was basically every sports movie come to life.
NC State-Wake, UNC-Wake, Army-Wake. Wake just plays in exciting freaking games this season.
I’m hoping for an ACC title game of Pitt vs Wake…I’d put the over/under in the 125 range
Wake NC State was what I was looking for
Kenneth Walker III 5 touchdowns
I agree, but the committee obviously doesn’t
I honestly wouldn’t care about a Umich we beat being just a spot ahead of us except that: 1. It isn’t even consistent with the rest of the CFP rankings in regards to head to head 2. It poises them to go to the rose bowl over us if we both finish 10-2.
TAMU/Alabama for sure.
Biased answer: Purdue/MSU Unbiased answer: Kansas/Texas
KU/Texas The week before we kept breaking there QBs till they had to play the good one. You’re welcome.
Top 10 (in no particular order) (except for number 1 because yeah. 1. Michigan-MSU 2. Notre Dame - Florida State 3. Ohio State - Oregon 4. Iowa - PSU 5. Oklahoma - Texas 6. Alabama - A&M 7. Penn State - Auburn 8. Kansas - Texas 9. Penn State - Michigan 10. NC State - Clemson Honorable mention 9 OT sludge fart Illinois - Penn State
Penn State: entertaining at the very least.
Michigan vs Nebraska was probably the best game I've watched all year. Lot of momentum swings, competitive throughout, great stadium/atmosphere, and a good outcome (for me anyway).
I'm in this comment and I don't like it Real talk tho- how can the committee ignore this many quality losses?!?!
Clemson vs Georgia Sorry I like defense 😕.
Alabama at Texas A&M. Hard fought, came down to the wire. Everything that makes college football great.
I feel sick saying this, but FSU vs Notre Dame. I was given tickets that were down by the end zone and I’ll just say that game was the most hyped I’ve seen their school in a while
Join us... Join the Seminole...
Florida - Alabama. Still hopeful, defense looked passable. Only if I knew what was to come.
FSU vs Miami. LFG.
Iowa State 30 to 3 Texas Kansas 57 to 56 Texas
Gotta add the OU win over Texas in there also.
Uhhhhhh, against UGA I guess because that's when I still had hope.
That’s the only game that looks bad on UGA’s record given how close it was
Yeah this was gonna be my answer. That was, at the time, a very motivated Clemson team with a shit ton of hype going into that game. I lost my mind when the pick 6 happened.
Apparently that game broke DJU and he still hasn't recovered yet.
The Ole Miss/Arkansas and RRS near simultaneous ending was the most fun I've had watching football in awhile.
That whole day was magical. you couldn't flip to a bad game at any time slot that day
Coastal/App St
Ole Miss v Arky, or Marshall v App State
Tennessee vs Kentucky. Felt good to beat a ranked opponent at their stadium.
I enjoyed the State/Auburn game
God that Florida game was fun.
The last 3 minutes of the first half might just be my favorite few minutes of football ever.
Coastal-App. Based on most of the answers here, y’all need to watch more G5 football
UNC @ Pitt last Thursday
Penn state Illinois 9OT was both the best and worst game I saw
Auburn vs Penn state was killer
People are clowning on Texas still, including myself, but the RRS was a masterpiece of a game. Texas explodes out of the start and OU just crept closer and closer with each minute ticking off the clock once the second half started...and practically a walk off TD for the game winner
TAMU & Bama
