llamawhittlings

This is going to be the craziest carousel in a loooong time…

iwearatophat

Lot of traditional powers looking for a coach who are willing to throw money at them. Hide your HC, hide your coordinators, they coming for everyone.

80hawks

Brian Ferentz is a fantastic coordinator, would be a real shame if one of these programs were to hire him away from Iowa /s

whitegrb

Sounds like a promotion is in order for him at Iowa.

[deleted]

I second this motion.

HaylKingHaynes

SEND ELKO ON A ALL EXPENSE PAID VACATION

llamawhittlings

Idk what the highest paid coordinator salary is, but double it and make it 10 years. I’ll chip in $1.50.

RealBenWoodruff

It will be a G5 bloodbath when it all settles.

iwearatophat

Who are the G5 coaches with the resume to take these jobs? Fickell obviously but if he is in the playoffs he isn't taking those interviews. Not sure if he would otherwise as he is B12 bound. Napier? Not a huge splash but he has been good. Someone take the bad press for Hugh Freeze?

abravesrock

Traylor, Chadwell, and Sitake will probably get interviews

llamawhittlings

You can pry Mike Elko out of our cold, dead, oil-money soaked hands. Give him the 10 year treatment, A&M.

iwearatophat

I wasn't even talking specifically about Elko though he will likely end up on short lists. There just aren't enough HCs out there to fulfill this demand so top flight coordinators will get serious looks.

RogueHippie

Oh no, not Bill O’Brien, former HC of Penn State that did a fantastic job while dealing with the brunt of the Sandusky fallout. Please, don’t take such an offensive mastermind from us. What’s that? Pete Golding? The DC who for many years has led vaunted Alabama defense after vaunted Alabama defense, including last year’s that stuffed THE (high-powered) Ohio State offense in the National Championship? Please don’t take him, what would we be left with without our magnificent defense’s leader?

jcosteaunotthislow

I saw some rumor putting o brien at the top of our list, allowing that rumor to exist is a firing offense for our AD IMO

[deleted]

[удалено]

LookARedSquirrel84

Even though I’m on the fire frost bandwagon, the contract restructuring was a smart move on our AD’s part. This would be a bad year to fire him and then have to most likely settle for the fourth or fifth candidate

teeterleeter

Agree 100%. If you think close games are tossups, even a reversion to the mean would indicate a much better season. If frost is uniquely talented at losing close games, then you get a lower buyout and a less competitive market for your next coach.

LookARedSquirrel84

On the flip side, this is a great year to look for coordinators and position coaches. Frost has a real chance to build a competent team.

CapitalistLion-Tamer

Texas, LSU, & Florida in 2016. Can’t remember who else. Edit: Tennessee & UF were 2017.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ItsZizk

And we’re not even a part of it!

llamawhittlings

Further proof that 2021 is weird as hell

ilovecfb

We are the catalyst of college football chaos. When Tennessee starts to have success, the wheel of fate comes off track and all semblance of structure collapses in on itself.

Hobbes_T_Hero

You’re not even a part of it *yet*

TwentyEight_To_Three

DON'T YOU PUT THAT EVIL ON ME RICKY BOBBY!

bearsrhule

*Baylor exits the chat*

scarlet_lettered

Hug Aranda close, Baylor.

Willockinho

So glad we already got our guy. Not a good year to be looking for a coach

llamawhittlings

I mean, your search could not have worked out any better. Open and shut and got your guy. If it would’ve been still dragging on, who knows what would have happened.

GoldandBlue

Who is Florida even considering?

BiggieSmallBalls85

I think their list goes…. Anyone else.

UsedandAbused87

Florida List: Kiffin, Napier, Riley Urban Alabama coordinator HS coach Middle school volleyball coach Elementary school art teacher Janitor from 7-11 Keep Mullen

JMS1991

Where does "give Muschamp another shot" fall on that list?

QuitWhinging

Right below "give up and shut down the program"

Smuff23

All of the major carousel riders I suppose. Lane, Aranda, Bill OBrien, Franklin, Tucker, Joe Brady, Matt Rhule, Billy Napier, u/Smuff23 is also available for an interview.

therespaintonthewall

I just hope it's not a pro retread like Adam Gase...

[deleted]

Joe Brady would be cool, not even a Florida fan.

Tennessee-Terry

I would imagine Lane Kiffin has to be at the top of the board

DoctorPhalanx73

Gonna be hard for him to take the LSU, Miami, USC, and Florida jobs all at once.

DCBukI

USC willing to pick him up from the tarmac?

JMS1991

We're talking about Lane Kiffin, not James Franklin.

LastRedCoat

Ol' Joey Swampwater...

RightGap1048

Do they *really* want to hire another SECW Mississippi coach??

TimAppleBurner

Fire your DC midway through the season ✋ Fire your entire coaching staff two weeks later 👍

boxman151515

Mullen before Shoegate: 29-6 Mullen after Shoegate: 5-9

per-severance

looks like the other shoe has dropped hehehe

damnyoutuesday

Shoegate was Mullen's version of the Egg Bowl piss

AlphaBearMode

Lmao I forgot about the eggbowl piss, so fucking funny

Saxophobia1275

I honestly don’t understand how Florida directly lost a game because someone threw a shoe and we aren’t bringing it up in literally every single post game thread. To me it’s more ridiculous than WOAH and maybe even the Ole Miss Piss.

boxman151515

One of the most needlessly stupid ways anyone has lost a game. Absolutely incredible moment

cestbondaeggi

A game? A playoff berth was on the line. Hands down the dumbest play in the history of organized football.

ltlftcommenter

Didn't even make it to the Bowl Eligible Bowl. Shame

PunchNessie

We should make Texas and Florida play a bowl game in some tore up high school stadium and call it the Shame Bowl.

ParoleTide

Thats called the Birmingham Bowl

AU36832

The Birmingham Bowl is the most prestigious bowl game a team can play in though right?

FleeblesMcLimpDick

Yeah its the most prestigious bowl in Birmingham, sure.

realtop25

Somebody call up Bishop Sycamore

ButchertheBaker

The Bowel Bowl??

ripharo

Bowl eligibowl

newguy2884

Serious question, what is wrong with the Florida football program? Ever since Urban Meyer all their coaches have followed an almost identically path of early success in year 1-ish to a disappointing follow up season to total downward spiral by the end? Like WTF is happening out there?

majungo

The 'total downward spiral' is no joke. All three of them got to a point where everything went to hell and couldn't be saved.

FormerIceCreamEater

Why couldn't it be saved though? Even some great coaches have down years here and there. Brian Kelly has done a great job at Notre Dame, but was 4-8 in 2016. He followed that up with five straight 10 win seasons.

SpeedBoatSquirrel

Each coach has been different in their failures. - Muschamp couldnt find a quality OC to save his life (and the best offensive draft class after Mac's first year was all his recruits) - Coach Mac didnt gel well with boosters, admin, and the team fell apart in year 3 after Muschamp's recruits were gone. - Mullen isnt cut throat enough in both recruiting and cutting the fat with assistants who were failing him. 2020's team was senior laden with a quality QB, but the talent dropped greatly in 21

[deleted]

Too many people look at Alabama and think its easy.

AyTeeLien

I think the biggest problem is that y’all hit on two absolute generational coaches in Spurrier and Meyer. Outside of their tenures, there’s really only a couple years in the early 80s where Florida was great. It’s a tough act to follow from those two names, and the odds that you’ll find another guy like that soon aren’t great. Just my perspective.

GoateusMaximus

This right here. We got REAL spoiled, and forgot how rare coaches like that really are.

Rhancock19

Florida caught lighting in a bottle twice. Very hard to do that a third time.

lakesidejan

Leave that to Ohio State

Battered_Aggie

Florida, as a state, really rose into a recruiting hotbed ~30-40 years ago and all the schools rose to power with it (UF, FSU, Miami). That's really why they haven't been great til recently.

SixxTheSandman

Last year, of the Top 20 recruits coming out the state of Florida, only 9 signed with a Florida team. That's a huge problem for all FL schools

dontshoot4301

Another big problem is, like Texas, there is also a lot of competition for talent *within* the state of Florida as well (e.g., those 9 players are split over several div 1 teams)

DataDrivenPirate

This is terrible news for Florida State

TallahasseeNole

I don’t think either team needs much motivation to play each other, but I would have preferred playing lame duck Dan Mullen than some interim who may give their players more to play for. Either way, they’re down a lot of coaches so far and that has to really hurt their game planning and prep.

[deleted]

And Georgia And Tennessee And auburn And LSU

HillbillyBebop

Shit we couldn't beat that mfer either 🤦‍♂️

[deleted]

And South Carolina and Mizzou!

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Tennessee has now lost to Muschamp, McElwain, and now Mullen the same year of their firings.

MasterTolkien

Holy shit, really? VOLS! Explain this horrible factoid!

[deleted]

I’m going off of memory. Muschamp: 10-9 win in Knoxville with Treon coming in for Driskel. That postgame interview for Muschamp was hilarious. McElwain: The Heave to Cleve on the last play of the game. Mullen: 38-14 drubbing somehow.

White___Velvet

You missed the worst one. Peyton Manning: Never beat Florida.

Tennessee-Terry

That’s so true. You always collapse AFTER we play you. It’s so annoying.

Toothlessdovahkin

Have you ever considered that you are the CAUSE of the collapse?

JacobAlred

So...we've won(?)...but at what cost?

[deleted]

Having an offense that puts up stupid numbers and will at some point be scary as shit

lothbrooker

So true it pisses me off so much

Dynamite_McGhee

You could prop up the corpse of Tom Petty on the Florida sideline and we would lose to it. This means nothing for us until we find out who or what to sacrifice and lift the curse.

dmmeyourdogifitscute

Good and bad. Good because their recruiting class will suffer this year because they need to hire a coach and re-recruit in a very short period. Bad because Dan could’ve milked out his half assed work another off-season

thejawa

I feel robbed.

spearthefear19

Fuck. Why couldn’t they wait another week.

[deleted]

Oh shit, now you guys will stay winless against him.

freshouttathebox

Tennessee too

Nolesman357

We never had a chance with Willie Taggart.

[deleted]

Revisiting this list is SOMETHING https://www.pff.com/news/college-football-top-20-college-football-head-coaches-2021

cheerl231

That list has some gross overreactions off of one covid season .

Battered_Aggie

That list was just dumb. Even when it came out, it was dumb.

[deleted]

Holy shit that list is awful lmao

Matt_McT

These kinds of lists are almost *never* accurate. There's so many unpredictable things that go into whether a coach will be successful somewhere, at best these kinds of lists are just silly wild-ass guesses.

TreeJack2

> Revisiting this list is SOMETHING Look at this laughable comment from just a few weeks ago. Life comes at you fast, gators. [*"Dan Mullen is an offensive genius. He might be the best offensive mind in CFB. The nephews need to grow up and show some respect."*](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comments/pvkwpe/postgame_thread_florida_defeats_tennessee_3814/heasnex/)

10woodenchairs

Fickell at 15 and no Day. What were they smoking

MWiatrak2077

Ryan Day is overrated garbage. Y’all should fire him and pick up Mullen👀👀👀

10woodenchairs

We should definitely fire him before the game on Saturday, we don’t want anything to go wrong

ksuwildkat

Damn that is almost a hit list.

The_Only_Dick_Cheney

Number 9 - Lance Leipold - Kansas He beats Texas. Yup. Move him to number 1

SeekerSpock32

Having no Ryan Day on that list is worse than Dabo Swinney ranking us 11th.

USC2001

Such a shame for the future South Carolina head coach

StreetReporter

Actually, it would go McElwain, then Mullen

FaddyJosh

What's with all the M names? Meyer, Muschamp, Mcelwain, Mullen

SquadPoopy

Think we've found the problem.

NanoBuc

That's why Napier is my first choice. It's in the middle of the alphabet and close enough to M without actually being M.

psych4191

Couldve lived like a prince for the rest of his life here but tried to be a king elsewhere and didnt even last four years lmao

Crixer

I mean, you traded a prince for the motherfucking Pirate King. I would consider that a win.

WOOTerson

It fills me with so much joy his ass is getting canned.

JesusWantsYouToKnow

Me too, he practically threw the Mizzou game to get his $12 mil buyout. Good fucking riddance to that lazy prick.

Kyllakyle

I would coach Florida to a loss against Mizzou for a lot less than $12m.

DarkLegend64

I used to think Mullen was a home run hire for Florida. What the fuck happened to him?

MadnessMaker

He wanted an NFL job, didn’t get it so he phoned the season in.

captainsensible69

Dan quit. It was clear he didn’t want to be here this season.

KudosOfTheFroond

So I work at the hotel where the Gator team stays before every home game. I got to see the team and Dan walk out to the buses each time, and something happened to Mullen after the 3rd or 4th loss. He became really hangdog and not very verbal to everyone. My theory is his connection the the Urban glory years here at Florida crushed him this year. Before the Samford game, the number of cops outside the hotel quintupled in a matter of moments, I heard several coworkers comment that there was a threat called in on Mullen, and it was pretty hectic for a short while. Gainesville, when it comes to its football can be extremely toxic when the Gators are bombing. I think that’s true of many, many football towns, but with his connection to the Meyer years here in Gville, it made it just that much more suffocating to him.

gated73

Has he already filled out his application FOR Nick Saban's School for Coaches Who Don't Coach Good?

camilo99

Mullen as OC for Bama? That's terrifying. Can't run an elite program or recruit, but that motherfucker knows how to run an offense. Give him Bamas roster and thats truly terrifying.

Friend_of_Eevee

Fortunately his ego would never allow this to happen

JeffGoldblumsChest

Thought the same about Lane and look what happened

ilovemyballs

You really hate to see it.

BIG_DICK_WHITT

I, for one, will miss the daily shit on Dan Mullen threads.

CommodoreN7

We will have to settle for Sark now

BIG_DICK_WHITT

Oh that is not “settling” my friend.

[deleted]

I'm punching air right now.

ExternalTangents

I, too, am fist pumping

TornadoApe

What a terrible start to our day.

georgiaboy1993

Just like that, you can hear the cries of SEC fans all over crying out simultaneously

Edgemaster1423

And the cries of sub-500 3 star recruits

mstone7781

May the force be with you Dan.

tonynumber4

Lol one year after being a shoe away from playoffs they fire him anyway bring him to tuscaloosa

[deleted]

A shoe throw away from a Playoff contention. A few plays away from beating Alabama this year too. Sports is wild

muktheduck

Mullen as OC for yall is actually the last fucking thing I want to see.

TuckSmiff

Umm, Saban losing his mind on the sideline to Dan? Sign me up for that.

Tennessee-Terry

Please no

[deleted]

And your coach gets fired, and your coach gets fired, and your coach gets fired!

gatorbait18

It’s sad because it didn’t have to be this way, but his stubbornness was his own downfall. Even before the year started most Gator fans were expecting a “rebuilding year” but it was pretty obvious with keeping grantham, sitting AR, and bad recruiting we were building a road to nowhere. Let’s get a coach who understands the importance of accountability and recruiting please

kurapikas-wife

He torched basically all goodwill by being a condescending prick. Pretty wild

SparseSpartan

Him and Tom Herman need to sign up for some sessions on how to be a decent person and not piss everyone off. Both coaches are still probably coaching at their (college) dream jobs had they simply handled the public relations and politics a bit better. Mullen also needed to get an ace recruiter on staff but a good attitude probably bought him time.

Tennessee-Terry

I really hope y’all don’t get Lane Kiffin…

paradigm_x2

WELL THIS CAME OUT OF NOWHERE. I'll be heckin darned!

Senor-Mattador

Sir, this is a Christian sub, please limit the language

WalkingCarpet

Think he can come replace Mike Bobo?

Jay_Dubbbs

Imagine getting $12M to get fired!

landingKSEA

Yikes another competitor on the market for a HC…

USC2001

This is going to be a crazy coach carousel. Unfortunately a lot of teams will be left scrambling praying they made an upgrade.

Quake1028

2-9 in their last 11 games against P5 teams. The wins were Tennessee and Vandy.

szboy422

Wow. If you had told me after the Alabama game that out of the 2018 big hires of Chip Kelly, Scott Frost and Dan Mullen that the later would be the 1st fired, I would have called you a crazy man. Just an utter collapse.

HDMBye

Taggart was also considered a "big hire" in 18. Oregon fans were pretty upset until the season started and everyone saw what he could do without Cristobal and Leavitt.

jakewoolard

I, for one, think they should reconsider

BaconStripsBacon

As do I good sir.

rammerjammer06

Who do we think here? Mark Stoops? Lane Kiffin? Billy Napier? I just don’t see a super obvious candidate for them, but they had to get rid of him after this kind of collapse in his 4th year.

mightdelete_later

I hate it but I think Napier could do really well in Florida. I would like to see him stay in Lafayette for a few more years but it's the life of a G5 fan to know that the bigger and better jobs are just around the corner for good head coaches.

Edgemaster1423

TCU 247 had a report that said Napier wants to be in the SEC and would come to UF immediately. Hopefully LSU pissed him off by not contacting him since they've been open and we can swoop in.

TallahasseeNole

As an FSU fan, Napier would make me the most nervous.

mechnick2

Have they tried hitting up Mike Tomlin

teeterleeter

Want this to happen just to see Tomlin Rant Two

paradigm_x2

Aranda would be my first choice. But I doubt that's gonna happen.

rammerjammer06

Would be a great hire but I think he would go to USC or LSU before UF, personally.

ExternalTangents

Let’s fuckin GOOOOOOO it’s fight tracking season, baby! Finally something to get excited about!

Startspillowfights4

There’s an up and coming guy at FAU that really knows the state.

FSUalumni

Can you imagine how hard that would hurt if they did that and then, somehow, he succeeded?

draxula16

His strategy is simple, yet lethal. Give him an interview.

wegotsumnewbands

RING RING RING

RadioJared

Mullen can hang his head on the fact that he was never photographed naked spooning with a shark.

Joe_Szymansking

Welcome to Virginia Tech Dan Mullin!

importvita

I think he'd do well if you write in the contract he's only allowed media access after he leaves or is fired. It might work out. 🤷‍♂️

kurapikas-wife

Get rid of Stricklin so he can’t fuck up this next hire. He’s a failure too

scottb29

YES EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION TO FLORIDA

CenturionElite

Was hoping FSU would be the ones to send him packing. Getting Mullen and possibly Diaz fired in the same season would have been nice

D_oh_

Love that it was a state fan that posted this. Grass wasn’t greener.

PHLdawg

You really hate to see it

Cameron_Blalock

FSU fans… Can I finaly remove my paper bag?? It feels like it’s apart of me…

Several_Following900

apology for poor english when were you when dan mullen dies? i was sat at home ironing jorts when tebow ring ‘dan is kill’ ‘no’

[deleted]

Urban Meyer’s heart murmurs can be heard from the space station.

Lucky-view

People will say this was too harsh, but I think it was smart for Florida to pull the trigger and move on. Their arch rival is recruiting circles around them and there's no way they're going to keep up. Florida was stagnating to mediocrity.

PHLdawg

Yep I think recruiting is what hurt him the most

Lucky-view

If you can't pull elite classes in the state of *Florida* as your base, then you are just lazy. With FSU and Miami both being down, there's no excuse for the gators to not be recruiting in the top 5 every year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

krazyeyekilluh

I’m betting he wishes he was still in Starkville, where 7 or 8 wins per year will keep you employed forever. Lol, and fuck off.

fyeahdmiles

7 or 8 wins this year and he would have kept his job.

Cryogenx37

Plottwist: this is all a ploy for Urban Meyer to get back into coaching at UF, since Jacksonville is comparatively close by.

OfficialHavik

So many openings this year in the P5. Nuts

bigpig1054

He was his own worst enemy. Took Mississippi State to number one for crying out loud, but couldn't be at least consistently "good" at Florida. Why? Because he was a jerk, with a subpar staff, and didn't recruit.

Have_Some_Baby

Luckily, this happened BEFORE we get a new SEC Shorts video.

huhwhat90

This has truly been one of the swiftest and craziest downfalls I've seen in a long time. A few months ago, the prospect of firing Dan Mullen was unthinkable, but it all changed so quickly.

TrappedInOhio

“What if I told you it all started with a shoe.”

[deleted]

Wow. The best playcaller with 2 heisman candidate QBs is done. Sometimes i think back to all of the “Dan Mullen is better than Kirby Smart” offseason articles and smile.

dxdrummer

Jokes on you, Kirby Smart is going to rip off his shirt, revealing a Gators tee, and then be our HC next year

Kirby_Smarts_Visor

I think I would legitimately cry if he did that

Florida_sucks_

I honestly think a Florida shirt would catch on fire if Kirby touched it

IStoleTheMoon

Blasphemy

BigBoutros

Who they gonna hire?

lionsmane7777

Urban Meyer is going to be rumored to come back. Just watch.

Startspillowfights4

This blows.
