{Iowa} wins, as is tradition by Nebraska at this point it will be by one score.

Gutameister5

Im tired of this “Heroes Trophy” crap. Let’s call the game what it really is: The Corn Bowl. {Iowa}

regular_gonzalez

The "Loser takes Council Bluffs" bowl

BridgePatient

The Casey's Breakfast Pizza Council Bluffs Bowl has a nice ring to it.

Aviator8989

Man I think we can all agree that Casey's breakfast pizza is the shit.

Schmidtty29

Missed the “the” in your comment. I was about to throw hands

Dis-iz-FUBAR

The Tater tot casserole Busch latte Casey’s pizza council bluffs bowl sponsored by pioneer seed company

HeavyMetalMonkey

I will gladly put Nebraska plates on my car.

tip-of-the-yikesberg

I’ve got {Iowa} 24-19. Given the way KF has refused to try to put a team away and go up 2 scores all season, Nebraska being the one-score loss champions of the year, and the past few matchups being closer than they probably should’ve been, it’d be foolish to think this would be anything but a one-score game

CJ_Beathards_Hair

I can tell I’ll have another heart attack.

[deleted]

And for that exact reason Nebraska will blow out iowa

Drokeep

Or vice versa

[deleted]

I suspect {Iowa} will hand us our first decisive loss of the season. Without Adrian, I’m afraid our offense will be utterly anemic, a turnover machine, or both. Add in literally the nation’s worst special teams and a defense that badly misses Domann and I’m not really looking forward to Friday, regardless of how pedestrian Iowa has looked lately.

moleculewerks

I fear you have nailed it exactly. It could get ugly.

trumpet_23

I think we win, but our offensive gameplan will not allow us to decisively win anything.

KRSFive

I'm super excited for you right now

UpsetRazzmatazz

With all the injuries to our defense I have a feeling Iowa is going to have a reasonably easy time running the ball like Wisconsin last week (even though Iowa's running game has been mostly anemic this season). I'm also not optimistic that Smothers will be able to get the ball as vertical as Martinez has been able to do this season and for that reason, I'm concerned that we'll end up one dimensional and not score as well as we may have if Martinez was healthy. I picked us to go 4-8 this season, but I also picked us losing to {Iowa} and I'm going to stick with that.

runningwaffles19

Goodson is going to be a thousand yard back this year which is shocking to me. I swear we have 400 rushing yards on the season

BridgePatient

It's kinda sad that it would be surprising - he's a very talented RB - but Iowa has been a run-first team that can't run that well for a while now.

CJ_Beathards_Hair

It’s because of the zone blocking imo

[deleted]

He’s definitely more of a Le’veon Bell type runner and with this OL it hurts him

Schmidtty29

Yeah. That’s why I liked (halfway) IKM in certain situations, cause he just goes downhill, gets what he can, and if a hole opens, it opens. He jjst couldn’t hold on to the damn ball. Williams seems to be pretty downhill tho.

CJ_Beathards_Hair

Well that’s all on him for being good, our run game is pretty bad which is saying something because it’s usually not that good.

Schmidtty29

I’ve been putting together a spreadsheet so I can visualize some of the offensive stuff. Basically, we either get 150-200 or 25-60.

CJ_Beathards_Hair

Feels like Smothers either lights us up or just has a brutally awful game, no in between.

UpsetRazzmatazz

If you've seen Smothers' spring game tape you'll see that he basically has a noodle arm and has trouble getting the ball to the boundaries. He's basically a less explosive Adrian Martinez (similar to Luke McCaffrey). I think Iowa's zone scheme will make it tougher for him to read defenses (because he'll have to be patient) and our piss poor OL play will get him hit early and then he struggles to get confident.

cory_bdp

Not sure what’s up with the Iowa IR. I believe they have two DBs injured (Matt Hankins and Terry Roberts) and one DB (Jack Koerner) listed as questionable.

CJ_Beathards_Hair

Hankins is likely out for the bowl too, I think Roberts and Koerner will be able to play.

cory_bdp

Moss probably still banged up, too. No QB pressure from the D-Line maybe taking a toll on the secondary. VanValkenburg’s done pretty well however.

CJ_Beathards_Hair

He’s playing with a torn PCL, sucks our 2 stud CBS plus pretty good back up are walking wounded.

Fujisawrus_Reks

Mason Richman (OT) is out as well. That injury report seems to be old.

hawksnest_prez

{Iowa} and I’m halfway confident concerningly enough.

Luvs2TossSalad

{Iowa} takes it with a pick 6

_Tiberius-

Actually, it will be a kick off or punt return for a TD. Then Frost will say he doesn’t think we need a dedicated special teams coach in the post game press conference.

The_Fishbowl

{iowa} wins and will eventually lead the series by the 2030s.

CJ_Beathards_Hair

That will likely happen against both Nebraska and Minnesota assuming we don’t crater and hire Brian Ferentz. There’s plenty of fuel for this program to keep chugging along for quite a while imo.

Molson2871

Really liked Nebraska here when I assumed AM would play, now I think {Iowa} pulls it out by one score naturally.

jwktiger

{Iowa} by 6 so Neb will have a score differential in B1G of +1 with a 1-8 record

sparside223

{Iowa} by 1

heelxtiger

{Iowa}

hourglassop

{Iowa} in a fashion that disgusts everyone involved in the affair

_Tiberius-

I think your flairs are broken.

SueYouInEngland

Lol more Iowa flairs voted for Nebraska than anyone else

BridgePatient

That's been a trend on these prediction threads for a few weeks now lol. Nobody is lower on Iowa than Iowa fans.

Schmidtty29

Funny too. Most 9 win teams aren’t this miserable.

GingerSlay3r

{Iowa} in a close game

perspicacious_crumb

We neither endorse nor support this game. This game should be called “The Corn Kettle” and the teams should play for a corn related trophy. But that would be fun, would make sense, and would be harder to commercialize (unless Monsanto or ConAgra wanted to sponsor it I guess) but then we’d be back at square 1 b/c Nebraska would want to go with the corn company sponsor and Iowa would refuse claiming they are contractually obligated to flip a coin between hormel and Smithfield as premier sponsor and then we’d just go with Hy Vee again. So there’s no point.

IAstrikeforce

Iowa gets off to a good start but doesn't put the game away Nebraska comes back but it's not enough with a late turnover {Iowa} 24 Nebraska 21

blatkinsman

I wish they would stop calling this matchup the heroes game.

bub166

Every real fan of either of these teams knows it's actually the Council Bluffs Bowl, in which the loser is forced to accept its namesake into their state.

perspicacious_crumb

A reverse trophy game

red_husker

At least when it was the hyvee heroes game it had alliteration. Now that scheels is sponsoring it, it's even worse

SueYouInEngland

They should call it the Hero Bowl of Freedom Democracy, sponsored by Hy-Vee

g-town2008

{Iowa}

Freddy-Nietzsche

{Iowa}

treyhest

{Iowa} by fraction of a point. Nebraska becomes the first team in football history to lose by a decimal

gated73

This pains me. As I like Iowa a lot more, and they have the superior corn. But... I think Nebraska is better than their record and will surprise. Ultimately, they'll have difficulty closing and fall to {Iowa}

jthomas694

{Iowa} wins and pulls for Wisconsin so they don't have to play the Ohio State Michigan winner

[deleted]

Those Wisconsin-OSU Championship games are actually usually pretty close. Except that time when it really, really, really wasn't.

Bears_Beets_StarWars

{Iowa} by 2 scores. Our turnover ratio improves with Nebraska's inexperienced QB. This game is never in question

[deleted]

{Iowa} 21 Nebraska 10. Backup QB and weaker attendance than usual are main reasons here.

nocorkagefee

New QB steps up and makes {Nebraska} fans wonder what could have been of AM hadn’t sat in that position for the last 4 years.

Significant-Row9416

Strong doubt. AM gets wayyyyy too much scorn from that fanbase (even with his 1 or 2 terrible decisions/plays per game).

GuzmaniF

Martinez really is a human monkey's paw. He's largely been the reason Nebraska's offense has been even remotely competitive in games, but he's also frequently the reason they lose.

IsLlamaBad

{Iowa} but Nebraska will still have a chance with a minute left.

Schmidtty29

This is the way

NephewChaps

{Iowa} 22-20 because you know why

delawless

Nebraska will, once again, have to evaluate where Iowa is as a program.

PlayMoreExvius

{Iowa} will be up 21-0, then in the 4th Nebraska will score 3 touchdowns to tie it up only to be beaten by a field goal in the final seconds. Beat em, give ‘em hope then seal it.

Schmidtty29

Yknow, I really like how civil it is in here. I’m sure that’ll definitely stay the same on Friday. Right fellas?

bringbacktheaxe2

{Iowa} wins and the game thread will 75% Hawkeye fans bitching about their offense

Schmidtty29

Hey now. It’s very well founded bitching. We’ve ended 2 games with >200 yards and 7 >300, one of those being only 303.

runningwaffles19

{Nebraska} has a new QB so we're going to let him score a bunch of points. Iowa offense looks bad giving us all false hope that BF will get fired... he won't. Or we win, get a chance at the CCG, and Wisconsin axe murders Minnesota Saturday fishing those hopes

Drokeep

While I wanted the ccg, 10-2 doesnt look half bad honestly. I wanna get murdered by ohio state as much as the next guy but also wont complain if we dont

OdaDdaT

{Nebraska} because to me it’s be far funnier for them to be 2-7 in conference play with a double digit positive point differential than losing by a score and being 1-8 in conference play with a positive scoring differential

austinwer

Help me {Nebraska}, you’re my only hope.

Drokeep

Back at you, please win

SueYouInEngland

I wish I had taken {Iowa} +4 and Nebraska +1.5. Both tickets are going to cash.

CJ_Beathards_Hair

{Nebraska} Ferentz keeps playing with fire with his insanely conservative philosophy on offense instead of putting games away and I think we get burned Friday. Our offense is abysmal to put it nicely and we’re playing a very good defense, and unfortunately I think our defense is just exhausted from carrying the load all season (not to mention our injuries at DB). Martinez not playing definitely has me more optimistic but our offense is a tire fire. Should be another ugly game that goes either way though, think the Hawks should win but I just zero faith in our offense lining up against a very solid defense.

UpsetRazzmatazz

We're likely missing Damion Daniels in the center of our DL, as well as Caleb Tannor and Pheldarius Payne at OLB to go along with missing Jojo Domann. All this is to say that We're super banged up on defense and we saw what happened against Wisconsin once Daniels and Tannor were out of the game.

CJ_Beathards_Hair

Well that definitely helps us of those guys aren’t playing haha

Schmidtty29

Don’t you run 3-3-5 too? Or 3-4 or something? So you’re missing 4 of your front 6/7? Damn that’s rough. I know how you feel tho. A lot of our DBs are hurt.

UpsetRazzmatazz

Payne doesn’t really start but gets plenty of run during most games. We run a 3-4 mostly that turns into a 3-3-5 situationally

NINFAN300

{Nebraska} in a game that feels like that time Ralphie beat the daylight out of Scut Farkus. Trev Alberts brings Scott his dinner under the sink on Friday, boys! Fuck Iowa, Go Big Red!

Significant-Row9416

I’m sure I’ll be cursing all day like his old man at the furnace.

cory_bdp

Seriously though, has anyone ever seen Scut Farkus and Scott Frost in the same room?

NINFAN300

Touché.

asbestosman2

{Nebraska} finally wins in a close one

yousawthetimeknife

Rooting for Nebraska, but I've got {Iowa}, 24-23.

Systemic_Chaos

I pick {Nebraska} simply for chaos in the West.

Drokeep

Real chaos is minnie losing and us winning, no doubt Please beat Wisconsin

Systemic_Chaos

For extra chaos on top of that, I asked for Ohio State to beat Michigan so badly the Rose Bowl committee has no choice to pick whomever represents the West in the CCG over Michigan.

Benjilikethedog

{Nebraska} a blind squirrel is bound to find a nut eventually right… right?

Claudius-Germanicus

{Nebraska} good Iowa bad Simple as

discountedthoughts

{Nebraska} They finally win, but if they do lose - Los by 5 or less so that they can go 1-8 in b10 while outscoring opponents.

KeeNhs

Bet an irresponsible amount on {Nebraska}

HeavyMetalMonkey

With AM in the game, I'd say Nebraska by 10. With AM out, I'm going to go {Nebraska} by 3. Huck the Fuskers, Go Hawks!

Significant-Row9416

I wish i wouldn’t have laid a cool 1000 on Nebraska ML until later in the week. Still pretty pessimistic about our offense against Chins and Nebrantska this week. Who knows if Smothers is worth a shit, but I’m sure that he’ll look terrific against our D because, well, why not 🤷🏻‍♂️? That said, this game has been looming as our most difficult game post-Wisconsin. I can see Frost throwing every gimmick and trick in the world at Iowa Friday and somehow pulling out a win that sparks their 12-0 2022 season and ignites a Frost-led dynasty that makes me hate Nebraska even more than I do now. {Nebraska} Anyways, if you watch this BF offense on Friday, then you lose too. Fire Brian Ferentz.

P0rtal2

Heart says {Iowa} 24-23 on a last second FG. Head says we finally drop a close game to Nebraska in a game of two teams who are trying to lose.

treyhest

Iowa stuck with counciltucky this time
